[0001] The present invention relates to a chest ironer.
[0002] Chest ironers, sometimes also referred to as "bed ironers", are commonly used for drying and ironing bed sheets, towels and other laundry items with relatively large surfaces.
[0003] Chest ironers are typically used in various professional applications, such as in hotels, laundries, etcetera.
[0004] Chest ironers comprise a chest, typically made of metal, with a concave side facing and partially surrounding a rotating cylindric ironing drum, usually having a hollow structure and a perforated peripheral wall.
[0005] During the ironing process, the chest is heated, typically at a temperature comprised between 100-200 degrees Celsius, and the ironing drum is brought into rotation in such a way to drag a laundry item to be ironed, e.g. a towel, a bed sheet, etcetera, between the ironing drum and the concave side of the chest; while the laundry item follows the rotating movement of the ironing drum, the chest and the ironing drum are pushed one towards the other, so as to press the laundry item, which is both dried and ironed due to the friction against the concave surface of the chest and the high temperature of the latter.
[0006] In some known solutions, the chest is heated by armored electrical resistances, substantially tubular or parallelepiped, mounted on a convex side of the chest which faces away from the ironing drum and has a substantially hemicylindrical external surface.

[0012] This waste of heat has the negative effect of increasing the energy consumption of the chest ironer, and also of reducing the power density in the overall chest surface, which increases the time required for ironing the laundry items.
[0013] In addition, in such known solutions, since the contact area between an armored electrical resistance and the substantially hemicylindrical external surface of the convex side of the chest is relative small, there is the risk of having hots spots in the chest, in particular at the contact areas with the armored electric resistances, which could damage the laundry items treated by such known solutions and / or compromise the uniformity of the ironing and drying.
[0014] Aim of the present invention is to solve above mentioned drawbacks of the cited prior art, and therefore to provide a chest ironer having a relative high energy efficiency, and a relatively high power density in the overall chest surface.
[0015] Within this aim, another object of the present invention is obtaining a chest ironer in which the risk of damaging the treated laundry items is reduced.
[0016] A further object of the present invention is obtaining a chest ironer which improves the uniformity of the drying and ironing of the treated items of laundry.
[0017] Above aim and objects are solved by a chest ironer provided with an ironing assembly comprising: an ironing drum, substantially cylindric, a rotation system for rotating the ironing drum around its longitudinal axis, a chest, comprising a curved metal body having a concave side, which faces and partially coaxially surrounds the ironing drum, and a convex side, facing away from the ironing drum, to which electric heating elements are attached, wherein the electric heating elements have a flat external surface facing and attached to the convex side of the curved metal body, a displacement system for displacing the chest and the ironing drum relatively to each other, wherein the convex side of the curved metal body comprises one or more flat regions, at least partially counter-shaped to the flat external surface of the electric heating elements, to which the electric heating elements are attached via the flat external surface.

Claims
1. Chest ironer (1) provided with an ironing assembly (3) comprising: - an ironing drum (4), substantially cylindric, - a rotation system (6) for rotating said ironing drum (4) around its longitudinal axis (A), - electric heating elements (9), - a chest (7), comprising a curved metal body (8) having a concave side (8a), which faces and partially coaxially surrounds said ironing drum (4), and a convex side (8b), facing away from said ironing drum (4), to which the electric heating elements (9) are attached, wherein said electric heating elements (9) have a flat external surface (10) facing and attached to said convex side (8b) of said curved metal body (8), - a displacement system (27) for displacing said chest (7) and said ironing drum (20) relatively to each other, said convex side (8b) of said curved metal body (8) comprises one or more flat regions (11), at least partially counter-shaped to said flat external surface (10) of said electric heating elements (9), to which said electric heating elements (9) are attached via said flat external surface (10), and wherein said curved metal body (8) is an extruded body, characterized in that said electric heating elements (9) comprise a thick film electric heating element (90) and / or an etched foil heating element (900).
2. Chest ironer (1), according to claim 1, wherein said curved metal body (8) is made of aluminium.
3. Chest ironer (1), according to one or more of the previous claims, wherein two or more of said electric heating elements (9) are attached to a same one of said one or more flat regions (11).
4. Chest ironer (1), according to one or more of the previous claims, wherein said one or more flat regions (11) comprise a plurality of distinct flat regions (11) to which at least one of said electric heating elements (9) is attached.
5. Chest ironer (1), according to one or more of the previous claims, wherein said flat external surface (10) is, in a plan view, substantially rectangular or square.
6. Chest ironer (1), according to one or more of the previous claims, wherein said one or more flat regions (11) are, in a plan view, substantially rectangular, with two longer sides (110a, 110b), substantially parallel to said longitudinal axis (A) of said ironing drum (4), connected at their ends by two shorter sides (111a, 111b), substantially perpendicular to said longer sides (110a, 110b).
7. Chest ironer (1), according to claim 6, wherein said longer sides (110a, 110b) cover the entire width of said curved metal body (8) in the direction of said longitudinal axis (A) of said ironing drum (4).
8. Chest ironer (1), according to claim 6 or 7, wherein said one or more flat regions (11) comprise a plurality of said flat regions (11), uniformly spaced to one another in a direction perpendicular to the respective longer sides (110a, 110b).
9. Chest ironer (1), according to one or more of the previous claims, wherein a plurality of said electric heating elements (9) are attached side by side to a same one of said one or more flat regions (11).
10. Chest ironer (1), according to one or more of the previous claims, comprising one or more pushing elements (12) elastically pushing said electric heating elements (9) against said one or more flat regions (11) to which they are respectively attached.
11. Chest ironer (1), according to claim 10, wherein said one or more pushing elements (12) comprise a static portion (120), attached to said convex side (8b) of said curved metal body (8) in proximity to one of said one or more flat regions (11) of the latter, a mobile portion (121), leaning against one of said electric heating elements (9) on the opposite side with respect to its flat external surface (10), and an elastic element (122) interposed between said static portion (120) and said mobile portion (121) for elastically pushing said mobile portion (121), and said electric heating elements (9) leaning against it, towards said curved metal body (8).
12. Chest ironer (1), according to one or more of the previous claims, comprising a control unit (13) configured for operating two or more of said electric heating elements (9) in a same way, or each of said electric heating elements (9) independently from the others.
13. Chest ironer (1), according to claim 12, comprising, one or more temperature sensors (14) configured for detecting the temperature of one or more regions of said chest (7), wherein said control unit (13) is configured for operating said electric heating elements (9) as a function of the detection of said one or more temperature sensors (14).
