Description

Technical field of the invention

[0001] The invention generally relates to the field of strapping, more particularly to a strap cutter for cutting strapping. More specifically, but not exclusively, the present invention relates to cutting strapping used for fixing conduits to a concrete floor before covering them with a screed. Technical background

[0002] It is known to use a retractable blade knife to cut a length of textile tape from a reel before or after attaching the tape to the top of one or more sleeves. This operation can be cumbersome. Summary of the invention

[0003] The invention aims to provide a tape cutter that simplifies the process of cutting a portion of tape when used to attach one or more sheaths to a surface.

[0004] The invention relates to a band cutter comprising an anvil on one of its sides and a blade on a second of its sides, opposite to the first side, in which the band cutter is configured to transmit, in use, an impact force received by the anvil to a band located between a surface and the blade, so as to cut the band.

[0005] The first side may include an upper edge. The second side may include a lower edge. The blade may include an elongated cutting edge. The band cutter may be configured to transmit, during use, an impact force received by the anvil to a band located between a surface and the elongated cutting edge of the blade, thereby cutting the band.

[0006] The invention relates to a band cutter comprising a body having an upper side with an anvil and a lower side with a blade having an elongated cutting edge, in which the band cutter is configured to transmit, in use, an impact force received by the anvil to a band located between a surface and the elongated cutting edge of the blade, so as to cut the band.

[0007] The body may include a tool guide, a cradle, a recess, and / or a ring, for example, a positioning ring. The anvil may be described by a base or bottom, or a recess. The tool guide, cradle, and / or ring may at least partially surround the anvil. The tool guide, cradle, recess, and / or ring may be used to position a nailer relative to the anvil to allow the nailer, or a nail delivered by it, to strike the anvil during use.

[0008] According to the invention, the body includes a tool guide surrounding at least partially the anvil to position a nailer relative to the anvil in order to allow the nailer or a nail delivered by it to strike the anvil in use.

[0009] In some examples, the tool guide includes a positioning ring surrounding the anvil.

[0010] The tool guide, cradle, recess, or ring may include one or more projections, for example, radial projections. The projection(s) may extend inward and / or from an inner surface of the tool guide, cradle, recess, or ring. The projection(s) may be configured to guide the nailer toward the anvil, for example, in a predetermined orientation. The predetermined orientation may be perpendicular to the anvil.

[0011] The projection(s) may comprise a plurality of projections, which may be spaced around the tool guide, cradle, recess, or ring. The plurality of projections may collectively guide the nailer toward the anvil, for example, in the predetermined orientation.

[0012] The strip cutter may include a hole or opening. The hole or opening may pass through the body. At least part of the hole or opening may be located in the center of the tool guide, cradle, recess, or ring. The recess may include the hole or opening. The hole or opening may be designed to receive a nail. The anvil may at least partially surround the hole or opening, for example, in such a way that the head of a nail, unloaded during use by the nailer, transmits the impact force to the anvil. The hole or opening may be described between the anvil and the tool guide, cradle, or ring.

[0013] In some examples, the strip cutter includes a hole through the body in the center of the tool guide to receive a nail, in which the anvil at least partially surrounds the hole so that the head of a nail discharged, in use, by the nailer communicates the impact force to the anvil.

[0014] The band cutter or body may include a nail guide, which may be aligned with and / or within and / or below the tool guide, cradle, recess, or ring. The nail guide may extend from and / or be substantially perpendicular to the anvil. The nail guide may be curved or substantially partially circular or substantially semicircular. The nail guide may include or be formed by a curved or substantially partially circular or substantially semicircular recess.

[0015] In some examples, the band cutter includes a clearance configured to allow, in use, the removal of the nail head from the band cutter.

[0016] The hole or opening may include the clearance. The clearance may be at least partially inside or enclosed, circumscribed, or outlined by the tool guide, cradle, recess, or ring. The clearance may be part of the hole or opening. The clearance may be at least partially outlined between the anvil and the tool guide, cradle, recess, or ring.

[0017] The anvil may include an impact surface, for example, to receive the impact force. The anvil may include an edge. The hole or opening may be described between the edge and the tool guide, cradle, recess, or ring. The strip cutter may include a shoulder, for example, along the edge. The strip cutter may be configured to transmit, in use, an impact received by the shoulder from a nail to a strip located between the blade and a surface, thus cutting the strip. The shoulder may be configured to surround, in use, at least part of the nail. The shoulder may be configured to surround, in use, only part of the nail.

[0018] In use, the band cutter can be configured to allow a nail to be driven through the band and, for example, to simultaneously transmit the impact force to the anvil. Thus, the band cutter can allow the band to be both secured and cut at the same time. The release mechanism allows the band cutter to be disengaged from the nail or the nail head.

[0019] The anvil may be curved or substantially partially circular or substantially semi-circular. The clearance may be curved or substantially partially circular, for example substantially semi-circular.

[0020] The band cutter may include an alignment means. The alignment means may be configured to orient the band cutter relative to a band to be cut such that the elongated cutting edge extends transversely across the band. The body may include the alignment means. The alignment means may include an edge or a surface, for example, along which an edge of the band to be cut can be aligned. The alignment means may include a pair of edges or surfaces, for example, along and / or between which the longitudinal edges of the band to be cut can be aligned.

[0021] In some examples, the band cutter includes an alignment edge along which an edge of the band to be cut can be aligned, so that the elongated cutting edge extends transversely across the band.

[0022] The band cutter or body may include a slot to receive the band. The alignment means may include the slot, or the slot may include or provide the alignment means. The alignment means or edge may be provided by a base or bottom of the slot.

[0023] In some examples, the band cutter includes a slot to receive the band and the alignment edge is provided by a base or bottom of the slot.

[0024] The alignment means or edge may include a stop surface, for example, to abut against an edge of the band. The stop surface may be provided by the slot, for example, the base or bottom or an end edge of the slot. The alignment means, the edge, the surface, the stop surface, and / or the slot may be elongated.

[0025] The alignment means, edge, surface, and / or stop surface may be perpendicular to the blade or the elongated cutting edge. The slot may describe a principal surface that is parallel to the blade or the elongated cutting edge. The body of the strip cutter may include a tab, which may be elongated. The body may include a lower surface. The tab may be spaced from the body or the lower surface, for example, to describe the slot between them. The slot or tab may have or describe a swollen opening, for example, to facilitate the insertion of a strip to be cut.

[0026] The band cutter or body may include a pivot, for example for a swivel connection to a reel. One axis of the pivot is arranged, for example, parallel to the blade or the elongated cutting edge.

[0027] The invention also relates to a tape dispenser comprising a tape cutter as described above. The tape cutter can be connected, for example by pivoting, to the dispenser.

[0028] The invention also relates to a tape dispenser comprising a tape cutter according to any one of the preceding claims, in which the tape cutter is pivotally connected to the dispenser.

Detailed description of the invention

[0042] Various aspects of different embodiments according to the invention are described in more detail below, with reference to figures 1 to 10 attached.

[0043] By referring to figures 1 to 3 A band cutter 1 can be seen in a first example. The band cutter 1 comprises an anvil 2 on one of its sides and a blade 3 on a second side, opposite the first side. The band cutter 1 is configured to transmit, in use, an impact force received by the anvil 2 to a band B located between a surface S and the blade 3, thereby cutting the band B.

[0044] More specifically, the band cutter 1 comprises a body 4 having an upper side 40 with the anvil 2 and a lower side 41 with the blade 3. The blade 3 projects from a main surface 41a on the lower side 41 of the body 4 and includes an elongated cutting edge 30. The band cutter 1 is configured to transmit, in use, an impact force received by the anvil 2 to the band B located between the surface S and the elongated cutting edge 30 of the blade 3, thus cutting the band B.

[0045] The body 4 also includes a tool guide 42, surrounding the anvil 2 to position a nailer 5 (only the end of which is shown) relative to the anvil 2 so as to allow the nailer 5 (or a nail delivered by it) to strike the anvil 2 in use. The tool guide 42 includes a positioning ring 43 which forms a recess 44 inside which the anvil 2 is located.

[0046] The body 4 also includes a hole 45 in its thickness, which is also surrounded by the tool guide 42 and is described between the tool guide 42 and a shoulder 20 along an edge of the anvil 2. The hole 45 includes a nail-receiving portion 45a at the center of the tool guide 42 and a clearance portion 45b. The nail-receiving portion 45a is described by a semi-cylindrical recess in a vertical side of the shoulder 20 of the anvil, which serves as a nail guide. The clearance portion 45b is configured to allow, in use, the removal of the nail head from the strip cutter 1.

[0047] The body 4 also includes a pair of alignment edges 46a, 46b. Each alignment edge 46a, 46b can be used to align the band B along it, so that the extended cutting edge 30 extends transversely across the band B. The alignment edges 46a, 46b define, for example, a rail extending perpendicularly to the blade 3 or extended cutting edge 30. In this example, the distance between the alignment edges 46a, 46b corresponds to the width of the band B. Thus, both alignment edges 46a, 46b can be used simultaneously to align the band cutter 1 with the band B.

[0048] In this example, the band cutter 1 also includes a pivot 6 for a swivel connection to a reel 7. One axis of the pivot 6 is arranged parallel to the blade 3 or extended cutting edge 30. The pivot 6 includes a pin 60 on each side of the body 4. As more clearly shown the figure 3The pins 60 are intended to be received in respective holes 70 of the reel 7, and serve as an axis, pivotally connecting the band cutter 1 to the reel 7. Alternatively, the pivot 6 of the band cutter 1 may include holes intended to receive pins of the reel 7.

[0049] In this example, the holes 70 that receive the pins 60 are located on either side of a dispensing opening through which the tape B is dispensed. Thus, those skilled in the art will understand that the alignment edges 46a, 46b are not necessary when the tape cutter 1 is pivotally mounted on the dispenser 7 in this manner. More specifically, the tape B dispensed by the dispenser 7 is inevitably aligned with the alignment edges 46a, 46b. However, if the tape cutter 1 is removed from the dispenser 7, the alignment edges 46a, 46b can be used to ensure alignment between the tape cutter 1 and a tape B to be cut.

[0050] In use and with reference to the figure 3 The strip B can be fixed at one end to the surface S using a first nail C, pulled over a series of elongated elements, such as pipes P, and fixed and cut simultaneously using a second nail C, with the strip cutter 1. More precisely, with the reel 7 and the strip cutter 1 positioned as illustrated in the figure 3 , the end of the nailer 5 is placed in the tool guide 42 and the second nail C is pulled from the nailer 5.

[0051] As the person skilled in the art will appreciate, the shank of the second nail C will pass through the nail-receiving part 45a of the hole 45, through the strip B and into the surface S, while the head will strike the surrounding surface of the anvil 2. This impact will cause the elongated cutting edge 30 of the blade 3 to cut the strip B, thus fixing the strip B to the surface S and cutting it simultaneously.

[0052] The band cutter 1 can then be removed from the second nail C by maneuvering it to remove the head of the second nail C from the anvil 2 through the clearance part 45b of the hole 45.

[0053] Now, referring to figures 4 to 8 We can see a band cutter 101 according to a second example. The band cutter 101 according to this example is similar to the band cutter 1 according to the first example, in which similar references represent similar characteristics that will not be described further in this document.

[0054] The tape cutter 101 according to this example differs from that of the first example in that the hole 45 and the pivot 6 are omitted and it includes an elongated alignment tab 146 on part of the length of the body 104. More specifically, the tape cutter 101 is configured to be used independently, rather than being connected to a reel 7, and is not designed to simultaneously fix and cut the tape B.

[0055] In this example, the anvil 102 corresponds to the entire base or bottom of the recess 144, is located on the upper side 40, and is configured to receive an impact force either from a nail C discharged from a nailer 105 or directly from a nail drive element of the nailer 105. The positioning ring 143 of the tool guide 142 includes two radial waste windows 143a and four equally spaced projections 143b around the periphery of the recess 144 and extending radially into it. The projections 143b are configured to guide the tip of the nailer 105 toward the anvil 102 in a vertical orientation, substantially perpendicular to the anvil 102.

[0056] The alignment tongue 146 depends on the lower side 141 of the body 104 and describes a slot 147 between a lower principal surface of the body 104 and the alignment tongue 146. The elongated free edge of the alignment tongue 146 diverges from the body 104 to provide a swollen entry, while the elongated edge of the alignment tongue 146 connected to the body 104 describes a base or bottom 146a of the slot 147, which also serves as an alignment edge or stop to align the edge of the band B with respect to the band cutter 101.

[0057] In this example, the body 104 of the band cutter 101 includes an insert 108 (shown more clearly on the figure 7), which is made of steel in this example and which includes the body components 104 which are subjected to and transmit the impact force, namely the anvil 102, the tool guide 142 and the blade 103. The insert 108 also includes a mounting arm 181 projecting from one side of the positioning ring 143. The mounting arm 181 includes mounting holes 182 through its thickness. The mounting arm 181 of the steel insert 108 is fixed inside a slot 149a of the body 104, so that the mounting holes 182 are aligned with a pair of transverse holes 149b through the body 104. Screws (not shown) extend through the transverse holes 149b of the body 104 and through the mounting holes 182 of the mounting arm 181 to fix the insert 108 in the slot 149a of the body 104.

[0058] During use and as shown by the figure 9The strip B can be fixed at one end to the surface S using a first nail C driven by the nailer 105, driven onto a series of elongated elements, such as pipes P, fixed using a second nail C driven by the nailer 105 to hold the pipes P in place. After being fixed, the strip B is cut using the strip cutter 101.

[0059] To cut strip B, the alignment tab 146 of the strip cutter 101 is placed next to a portion of strip B, which is then inserted into slot 147 until its edge abuts against the base or bottom 146a of slot 147, along which strip B is aligned as illustrated in the figure 9 . The end of the nailer 105 is then inserted into the tool guide 142 and pulled, in order to provide an impact force to the anvil 102, causing the strip B to be cut by the elongated cutting edge 130 of the blade 103.

[0060] Although it is possible to unload a nail C from the nail gun 105 to transfer the impact force to the anvil 102, it is preferable to simply use the C-nail drive element of the nail gun 105. This can be achieved by firing the nail gun 105 without a C-nail in the firing chamber. The inventors envision two approaches to this.

[0061] In one solution, the 105 nailer may include a blank firing mode, which can be selected by pressing the 150 blank firing selector button. This prevents the 105 nailer from loading a C nail into the firing chamber.

[0062] Alternatively, the nail strip 109 can be fitted with a white nail CB between the nails C at regular intervals. An example of such a nail strip 109 is illustrated in the Figure 10, which includes a white CB nail at every third position, so as to permit the use of a C nail on each side of the P pipes and the use of the third white CB nail to cut the B strip.

[0063] Other solutions are also being considered. In fact, those skilled in the art will appreciate that several variations of the aforementioned embodiments are conceivable without departing from the scope of the invention.

[0064] Throughout the description and claims of this specification, the words "include" and "contain" and their variations mean "including but not limited to," and they are not intended to include (and do not exclude) other parts, additives, components, wholes, or steps. Throughout the description and claims of this specification, the singular encompasses the plural unless the context requires otherwise. In particular, where the indefinite article is used, the specification should be understood as considering plurality as well as singularity, unless the context requires otherwise.
