Description

Technical field

[0001] The present invention relates to a shower enclosure, in particular a removable shower enclosure adapted to be installed on or with a supporting structure, such as for example a bathtub. State of the art

[0002] Document DE 44 22 604 A1 discloses a bathtub with a removable part. This document is considered useful for understanding the invention.

[0003] Conventional bathrooms and sanitary facilities usually include either a bathtub, a shower, or both. In small apartments, there is often not enough space to equip a bathroom with both. Therefore, the choice is made to install either a shower cubicle or a bathtub in the bathroom.

[0004] For elderly people and / or people with reduced mobility, it is a challenge to safely enter a bathtub to wash. However, those affected do not always have the choice of which sanitary module to install in the bathroom, as this decision has often been made in the past or, in the case of tenants, by the building owner.

[0005] One solution for elderly or disabled people who wish to use an existing bathroom without a shower enclosure is to structurally convert the bathroom into a more accessible one. However, this is not always possible, either for financial reasons, as such a conversion is expensive, or because the bathroom user is not the owner of the property.

[0006] There are ways to make using a bathtub more accessible, such as providing a board resting on the side walls of the bathtub to allow a user to sit on it while washing. However, this solution is not optimal for entering the bathtub, as the user must still lift both legs over the bathtub wall, which requires sufficient amounts of strength, balance, and coordination.

[0007] Existing solutions are therefore not sufficiently adapted to the needs of elderly people or people with reduced mobility, especially if a permanent structural modification of a bathroom is not possible or not desired. Brief summary of the invention

[0008] An aim of the present invention is to provide a sanitary module which allows elderly people or people who have difficulties with their leg strength, balance and / or coordination to wash safely in a bathroom which does not include a shower.

[0009] Another object of the invention is to provide a sanitary module which can be easily installed in a modest-sized bathroom without the need to permanently modify the structure of the bathroom.

[0010] It is yet another object of the present invention to provide an alternative to module solutions that allow elderly people or people with leg strength difficulties to wash safely.

[0011] According to the invention, one or more objects are achieved by means of the independent claims. The dependent claims relate to optional features of the independent claims.

[0012] In particular, these goals are achieved by means of a removable shower enclosure, which can be mounted or installed on or with an external support, for example a bathtub, a toilet, or a seating structure such as a chair. The assembly or installation of the shower enclosure does not require any alterations to a room in which the shower enclosure is mounted or installed. The shower enclosure can be mounted or installed temporarily, including for the long term. If desired, it can be easily removed from the room.

[0013] The shower enclosure comprises a seating surface adapted to support a seated subject when supported by an external support structure, for example a side wall of a bathtub or a seating structure. The shower enclosure also comprises a back wall of the enclosure surrounding, at least partially, the rear and sides of the seating surface and extending upwardly from the seat.

[0014] A user of the cabin may be seated directly on the seating surface resting at least partially on an external support structure, for example a side wall of a bathtub.

[0015] It is also possible to arrange a seat element with or without a backrest on the seating surface for the user to sit on. The seat element can be provided to improve seating comfort.

[0016] The height of the seating surface from the floor on which the cabin rests is defined by the portion of a supporting structure on which the seating surface rests.

[0017] The height is preferably defined relative to the height of an external support structure, on which at least a portion of the seating surface rests. The seating surface or a portion of the seating surface may rest on a portion of the external support structure.

[0018] The external support structure is preferably a bathtub. However, the support structure may be another structure or element adapted to support the seating surface when a subject is seated on it. The support surface may, for example, be a chair, a toilet, or a wall of a suitable height for sitting.

[0019] According to a preferred embodiment, the drainage module is positioned on the ground when at least a portion of the seating surface rests on at least a portion of the external support structure.

[0020] The height of the wall from the seating surface is preferably 95 cm to 150 cm, or 100 cm to 125 cm.

[0021] The back wall can be arranged around the back and laterally to the seat surface. It can be tightly connected to the seat surface, so that water cannot flow between the seat surface and the back wall.

[0022] The entire back wall and seat surface ensure the stability and rigidity of the shower enclosure.

[0023] Preferably the back wall is solid, providing a barrier against water.

[0024] The back wall may be arranged so that it covers only part of the back and the sides of the seating surface, leaving openings through which water can pass. This arrangement is only useful, however, if the cabin is positioned on an external structure, such as a bathtub, which allows water passing through the rear of the cabin to be collected or drained.

[0025] The back wall can be shaped or arranged to allow water to pass outside the cabin.

[0026] The shower enclosure includes a drainage module, which has a drainage surface. The drainage surface is arranged to form the floor of the shower enclosure on which a user can stand.

[0027] The drainage module is connected to the seating surface in such a way that a step is formed between the drainage module and the seating surface. The drainage surface and the seating surface are preferably parallel to the same plane. The drainage module may be fixed relative to the drainage surface. The drainage module may also be movable relative to the drainage surface. It may, for example, be retractable or may be adapted to be moved, for example slid, into a position beneath the seating surface of the shower enclosure.

[0028] The arrangement of the seating surface and the step-like drainage module allows a user to easily access the enclosure without having to overcome an obstacle at the entrance to the enclosure. The height of the drainage module can be chosen to suit the needs of an elderly person, or a person who has difficulties with leg strength, balance and / or coordination. When the shower enclosure is mounted or installed with a bathtub, the user avoids having to step over the side wall of the bathtub to wash.

[0029] According to a preferred embodiment, the drainage module comprises a drainage member through which the water falling on the drainage surface flows away.

[0030] The drainage surface may be shaped to direct water falling on the drainage surface toward the drainage member. The drainage member prevents water retention and accumulation inside the cabin. It allows for controlled flow of wastewater.

[0031] The drainage member may for example comprise a grid, a hole or a plurality of holes.

[0032] The drainage member may be included in the surface, for example by being an integral part of the surface. The drainage member may have a single opening for allowing water to pass through or several openings. It may be spread over the surface, for example in the form of a portion comprising a plurality of holes.

[0033] The drainage surface may be formed so as to direct water towards the drainage member, respectively the openings for the passage of water from the drainage member.

[0034] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the drainage module comprises a receptacle for receiving water falling on the drainage surface. The receptacle contributes to a controlled wastewater flow and minimizes spillage.

[0035] Preferably, the receptacle is provided with a drainage pipe through which wastewater contained in the container can exit. The receptacle may also include a pump, which may be powered by a battery, driving water into the drainage pipe.

[0036] According to a preferred aspect of the invention, the shower enclosure comprises one or more water dispersing elements, for example a shower head, an overhead shower head, and / or a shower hose. Any type of element that disperses water in a manner to allow a subject to take a shower is suitable.

[0037] The shape and / or design of a shower head and shower head is not particularly limited. A shower head and shower head can be round or rectangular, for example. A shower head and shower head can be arranged in a cylindrical shape.

[0038] The water dispersion element can be fixed to a wall or an optional ceiling of the shower enclosure.

[0039] The water dispersing element may be a handheld element, for example equipped with a flexible hose. The water dispersing element may be a handheld shower.

[0040] The dispersion element is in fluid communication with an external water source, for example with an external faucet or with water pipes, for example external hot and cold water pipes.

[0041] According to one embodiment of the invention, the height of the seating surface relative to the floor is adjustable. According to this embodiment, said height can be adjusted according to the distance between the portion of a bathtub on which the portion of the seat element remains and the floor on which the drainage module is positioned. This offers the advantage of being able to easily adapt the cabin to different support structures, or to the various dimensions of the support structures, depending on the needs.

[0042] According to one embodiment of the invention, the distance between the drainage surface and the seating surface is adjustable. According to this embodiment, said distance can be adjusted, for example according to the dimensions of a subject's body, to allow the latter to place his feet on the drainage surface when sitting in the cabin. This offers the advantage that the cabin can be easily adapted to the dimensions of the user.

[0043] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the shower cubicle comprises a protective element against the dispersion of water outside the cubicle. The protective element may be a front wall and / or a shower curtain, arranged to form, together with the back wall, a closed shower cubicle.

[0044] The water dispersion protection element is provided with an opening member for releasing an access opening allowing a subject to enter the enclosure, for example a shower enclosure door or a track along which a shower curtain can be slid. A user can climb onto the drainage surface through the access opening when the opening member is in an open position.

[0045] According to a preferred embodiment of the protective element, the access opening is arranged laterally in the cabin. A side access to the cabin rather than a front access avoids the need to create a free space in front of the cabin to allow its use. This contributes to efficient use of space by the shower cabin, which is particularly advantageous for small bathrooms.

[0046] However, it is possible to provide an opening allowing entry from the front. It is also possible to combine a side entrance and a front entrance.

[0047] In one embodiment the protective element has a height from the drainage surface of 140 cm to 200 cm, for example 160 cm to 180 cm.

[0048] In an alternative embodiment, the protective element has a lower height, or from 100 cm to 140 cm, preferably from 120 cm to 130 cm.

[0049] The cabin can also be equipped with a ceiling. However, it is also possible for the cabin to have no ceiling, but to be open at the top.

[0050] The ceiling prevents water from escaping or evaporating to the top of the cabin. In addition, the ceiling offers the advantage that a shower head, and / or lights can be installed on the ceiling facilitating an even dispersion of water in the cabin, respectively a lighting of the cabin top.

[0051] The shower enclosure may provide fasteners to secure the shower enclosure to a structural element, such as a wall or ceiling of a room, in order to fix the shower enclosure in its position. This can prevent the enclosure from accidentally sliding.

[0052] The present invention also relates to an assembly of the shower enclosure as described herein and a bathtub.

[0053] According to one embodiment of said assembly, the portion(s) of the seating surface resting on said bathtub are only a front portion and, optionally, a lateral portion of the seat element.

[0054] The bathtub of the set may include a faucet with which the water dispersion element of the shower cabin is connected so as to establish a fluid connection.

[0055] In an alternative embodiment, the invention relates to an assembly comprising the shower cubicle as described and a seating structure. The seating structure may, for example, be integrated into the shower cubicle.

[0056] The present invention also relates to a method of installing the shower enclosure according to this invention on a bathtub, comprising the step of positioning the shower enclosure on said bathtub such that a portion of the seat element remains on a portion of said bathtub and such that the drainage module remains on the floor outside said bathtub. Examples of embodiments of the invention

[0058] The present invention relates to a removable shower enclosure intended to be mounted or installed with or on a support structure.

[0059] According to one embodiment of the invention, as shown in figure 1 for example, shower enclosure 10 is suitable for mounting or installation with a bathtub.

[0060] According to another embodiment of the invention, as shown in the figures 5 And 6A has 6D , the shower cabin 10 is adapted to be mounted on a seat structure 40. The seat structure 40 can be integrated into an assembly with the shower cabin 10.

[0061] The cabin is provided with a seating surface 1 adapted to support a seated shower user. A user may sit directly on the seating surface. Alternatively, a seat element may be arranged on the seating surface to accommodate a user.

[0062] The seating surface is substantially parallel to the plane of a drainage surface 4. The drainage surface 4 and the seating surface form a step, preferably such that a user can rest their feet on the drainage surface when seated on the seating surface, as shown in figure 1 and the Figures 6A and 6B . The drainage surface 4 and the seating surface 1 are parallel to the same plane.

[0063] According to one aspect, a front cover 14 is arranged between the seating surface 1 and the drainage surface 4. The front cover may be arranged to protect a bathtub or seating structure from water splashing from the shower enclosure. For this purpose, the front cover is preferably a plate arranged perpendicular or substantially perpendicular between the seating surface 1 and the drainage surface 4, as illustrated in the figures 1 , 2 And 5 .

[0064] Preferably, the front cover 14 is fixedly connected to the seating surface 1.

[0065] The front cover 14 can also be attached to the drainage surface 4.

[0066] In an alternative embodiment, the front cover 14 is not directly connected to the drainage surface. This embodiment allows the drainage surface 4 to move relative to the front cover 14.

[0067] The drainage surface 4 is part of a drainage module comprising, in the embodiments shown in the figures, the surface 4 with a drainage member 5, and a receptacle 6 in the form of a cubic box for receiving the waste water.

[0068] The drainage module may be retractable. In this embodiment the drainage module may be movable between a deployed position as shown in figures 1 , 6A and 6B. In this position, the drainage surface 4 and the seating surface 1 form a step. To retract the drainage module, it can be slid below the seating surface 1 to assume a retracted position. In this retracted position, at least half, at least two-thirds, at least 75%, at least 80%, or at least 90% of the drainage surface 4 is positioned below the seating surface 1. The advantage of the retractable drainage module is a reduction in volume of the shower enclosure when it is not in use. Therefore, the space requirement of the shower enclosure can be reduced when it is not in use.

[0069] The seating surface is arranged at a certain height H from the floor, said height H being chosen so that the seating surface rests on top of the bathtub.

[0070] The height H can be fixed. The fixed height H is predefined by the dimensions of the supporting structure, specifically by the height of the portion of the structure on which the seating surface rests. The fixed height H is especially suitable for types of supporting structures, for example bathtubs, with standardized heights. Shower enclosures of the invention can therefore be produced with a height H that is determined by the dimensions of the supporting structure, for example by a certain type of bathtub, for which it is provided.

[0071] It is also possible for the height H to be adjustable to better adapt it to different heights of the support structures, preferably a bathtub. A cabin of this type is more versatile than a shower cabin with a fixed height H.

[0072] In the embodiment illustrated on the figure 1the rear and both sides of the seating surface 1 are surrounded by a back wall 2. The back wall is connected to the seating surface 1 in a sealed manner so that the water dispersed in the cabin does not escape to the rear, or does not flow directly into the bathtub.

[0073] The waste water falls directly or possibly onto the drainage module 4,5,6, more precisely onto the drainage surface 4. Subsequently, it passes through the drainage member 5, which is in the example shown in the figures a drain comprising a hole and a grid in the drainage surface 4. The waste water is then captured in the receptacle 6 of the drainage module.

[0074] The drainage module 4, 5, 6 is arranged on the floor outside the bathtub, adjacent to the side wall of the bathtub on which the seating surface 1 rests.

[0075] To improve or ensure the sealing of the cabin 10, the front part of the seating surface and the drainage module 4, 5, 6, or the drainage surface 4 are connected in a sealed manner, for example by a plate.

[0076] The back wall 2 comprising lateral portions to the left and / or right of the seating surface 1, and which extends upwards from the seating surface 1, ensures the rigidity of the cabin. The semi-cylindrical shape of the back wall 2, as shown in the figures 1 to 3 , is a preferred shape resulting in a particularly robust 10 cabin.

[0077] In the shower cubicle according to the invention the back wall 2 can also extend forwards in at least one of the sides of the cubicle, to connect to the drainage module 4, 5, 6 and extend upwards from the drainage module, as shown in the figures 1 And 2 .

[0078] The drainage module 4, 5, 6 together with the seating surface 1 and the back wall 2 ensure very solid stability when the cabin 10 is mounted on a bathtub or other suitable supporting structure.

[0079] The shower cubicle 10 can be closed towards the front by a set of walls 3 comprising a front wall 31 and a side wall 32. The front wall 31 and the side wall 32 cooperate to close the cubicle in the closed position of the cubicle, as shown in the figure 1 .

[0080] According to this embodiment of the invention, the dispersion protection element (3) is lower than the height of the shower cubicle, which is defined by the distance of the back wall (2) from the floor. The dispersion protection element (3) may, for example, have a height from the drainage surface (4) of 100 cm to 140 cm, preferably 120 cm to 130 cm.

[0081] In this embodiment, it is also possible for the height of the back wall (2) to be smaller, for example from 30cm to 95cm, preferably from 40cm to 70cm from the drainage surface 4.

[0082] According to another embodiment of the invention, as shown in the figure 2 , the side wall and the front wall have a greater height of 140 cm to 200 cm, for example from 160 cm to 180 cm. Each of these walls can be made of a single piece. In the embodiment shown, each of these walls comprises an upper part 31a, 32a, and a lower part 32a, 32b. The lower and upper parts of a wall can pivot independently of each other towards the inside and / or towards the outside of the cabin.

[0083] The cabin shown in the figure 2is in its open position. The side wall 32a, 32b and the front wall 31a, 31b are pivoted towards the outside of the cabin, so that an access opening is created through which a user can enter the cabin 10. The side access opening is particularly advantageous for small bathrooms where available space is limited. The side opening preferably also extends towards the front face of the cabin, as shown in figures 2 And 4 .

[0084] As shown in the figure 3, the shower cubicle mounted on the bathtub is supported by a portion of a first longitudinal side wall of the bathtub, but not by the second side wall of the bathtub, which is parallel to the first side wall. To further improve the stability of the shower cubicle, a support element 13, for example a grab bar, may be arranged between the first longitudinal wall and the second longitudinal wall of the bathtub. In this embodiment, the seating surface 1 and / or the back wall 2 partially rest on the support element.

[0085] THE Figures 4A, 4B, 4C show a shower cubicle with a protective element (3) comprising two front walls 33a, 33b, and a side wall 33c, which cooperate to close the shower cubicle in its closed position ( Figure 4A ).

[0086] One of the front walls 33b is connected to the side wall 33c by hinges. To open the cabin, said front wall 33b is folded against the side wall 33c, as shown in Figure 4B . The two folded walls 33b, 33c are then pivoted outward together to create an access opening, which is larger than an opening on the lateral side only, as shown in Figure 4C This opening mechanism improves cabin accessibility in a confined space.

[0087] The opening mechanism can be implemented in a cabin with protective elements (3) having a height of more than 95cm. It can also be implemented in a cabin with protective elements (3) having a height of less than 95cm.

[0088] The shower cubicle is equipped with a hand shower with a shower head 7 and a flexible shower hose 9. The cubicle also includes a tap 8, which is preferably equipped with a mixer tap for adjusting the water temperature dispersed by the shower head. The mixer tap can be fixed to a wall of the shower cubicle.

[0089] The faucet 8, respectively the shower head, is supplied with water by a water supply pipe 11. Said pipe establishes a fluid connection with the external water source. It is possible to provide two separate pipes to supply hot water in one pipe and cold water in the other, as shown in the embodiments of the figures 1 to 3 .

[0090] The embodiments shown in the figures do not contain a ceiling. In embodiments of the shower enclosure with a ceiling, a shower head can be fixed to the ceiling. Alternatively or additionally, the shower enclosure can be equipped with one or more side shower jets.

[0091] The shower enclosure can be equipped with other accessories, for example other shower fittings.

[0092] The shower cabin can be equipped with a hand shower and a raised shower head, giving the user the choice between washing with the latter or the shower head.

[0093] The drainage module 4, 5, 6 may be provided with a drainage line 12 for directing waste water to a drain connected to the piping system, as illustrated in Figures 1 to 4C. In the example shown the waste water flows through pipe 12 into the bathtub where it flows out through the bathtub drain. It is also possible for the waste water to flow into another drain, for example a sink.

[0094] The achievements shown in the Figures 1 to 4Crelate to a model according to the invention that can be used with a bathtub. However, it is possible to mount or install the shower enclosure on or with other support structures, such as a chair or a toilet seat. For its use, the cabin will need an external water source. It can therefore easily be used in various spaces with a support structure and a water source, for example a sink or washbasin faucet, allowing washing. The use of the cabin is not strictly linked to its installation in a bathroom. The shower enclosure of the present invention is therefore extremely versatile and can be used in different situations.

[0095] The achievement illustrated on the Figures 5 to 6Drelates to a model according to the invention which can be used outside a bathroom, for example in a corridor or bedroom. This model can be used in any location, as long as the water supply to the cabin is provided.

[0096] This embodiment is an assembly of a shower cabin 10 according to the present invention and a seat structure 40 which is integrated into the structure of the cabin.

[0097] The seat structure according to the embodiment shown in the Figures 5 to 6D is provided with a seat plate 41 and a frame 42. The shower cubicle is arranged on the seat structure 40 such that the seat surface 1 covers the seat plate 41. The seat structure is protected from water splashes coming from the shower cubicle by the front cover 14.

[0098] The shower cubicle 10 with an integrated seat structure 40 may be provided with one or two side covers 15, as illustrated by Figures 5 to 6D The side covers 15 serve to protect the seat structure 40 from environmental impacts. In addition, the side covers improve the strength of the assembly.

[0099] The side covers 15 are fixed to the shower cubicle and / or the seat structure.

[0100] The drainage module 4, 5, 6 of the embodiment illustrated on the Figures 5 to 6D is retractable. An alternative design with a fixed drainage module 4,5,6 is also possible.

[0101] A guide means 421 may be provided in or on the seat structure, preferably in or on the frame 42 of the seat structure, to guide the movement of the retractable drainage module 4, 5, 6. The guide means 421 of the example shown in the Figures 5 to 6Dare guide rails cooperating with a structural element of the drainage module to allow the drainage module to slide between its deployed position and its retracted position.

[0102] There Figure 6A illustrates the drainage module in its deployed position. The shower enclosure 10 shown in this illustration is provided with the two front walls 34a, 34b, each hingedly connected to side walls 34c. The walls are removed in the Figure 6B for better visibility of the deployed drainage module. The arrow of the Figure 6B indicates the direction of sliding of the module from its deployed position to its retracted position.

[0103] There Figure 6C illustrates the construction of the entire shower cabin and the seat structure of the Figures 5 to 6Bwith the drainage module in its retracted position. In this position the walls 34a, 34b, 34c are folded to minimize the overall size of the assembly. The walls are removed in the Figure 6D illustrating the retracted drainage module. Only a small portion of the drainage module protrudes below the front cover 14. The arrow on the Figure 6D indicates the direction of sliding of the module from its retracted position to its extended position.

[0104] By analogy with the realization illustrated on the Figures 1 to 4C , the realization illustrated on the Figures 5 to 6D can also be equipped with the necessary and optional sanitary appliances as described above. Reference numbers used in the figures
