Description

REPORT OF VALIDITY STATUS ON UL SYNCHRONIZATIONFIELD

[0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of telecommunication and in particular, to devices, methods, apparatus and computer readable storage media for reporting a validity status.BACKGROUND

[0002] Non-Terristrial Network (NTN) is studied to provide access to a terminal device by serving the terminal device through a satellite. In NTN, it is assumed that the terminal device may perform pre-compensation of a transmission between a network device and the terminal device based on system broadcasted information. Pre-compensation is used specifically to handle large propagation delays and potentially also Doppler shift, which occur due to the satellite being at an altitude of at least 600 km.

[0003] A duration of a validity timer for system broadcasted information could be e.g. 20~30s. The terminal device may assume the system broadcasted information is valid during the duration. Thus, the terminal device may use the system broadcasted information to estimate the timing advance (TA) and frequency Doppler shift for UL pre-compensation.

[0004] Because terminal devices in Narrow Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT) and Enhanced Machine-Type Communications (E-MTC) mostly operate in Half-Duplex (HD) mode, there should not be UL transmission colliding with DL reception of system broadcasted information. From this point of view, the network device and the terminal device must have a common understanding of a validity timer for the system broadcasted information. Without the common understanding, there will be unexpected or uncontrolled behavior from the terminal device, causing that the network device cannot schedule the terminal device as the network device has no information on when the terminal device may or will transmit or receive.

[0005] SUMMARY

[0028] It shall be understood that although the terms “first” and “second” etc. may be used herein to describe various elements, these elements should not be limited by these terms. These terms are only used to distinguish one element from another. For example, a first element could be termed a second element, and similarly, a second element could be termed a first element, without departing from the scope of example embodiments. As  used herein, the term “and / or” includes any and all combinations of one or more of the listed terms.

[0029] The terminology used herein is for the purpose of describing particular embodiments only and is not intended to be limiting of example embodiments. As used herein, the singular forms “a” , “an” and “the” are intended to include the plural forms as well, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. It will be further understood that the terms “comprises” , “comprising” , “has” , “having” , “includes” and / or “including” , when used herein, specify the presence of stated features, elements, and / or components etc., but do not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, elements, components and / or combinations thereof.

[0030] As used in this application, the term “circuitry” may refer to one or more or all of the following:

[0031] (a) hardware-only circuit implementations (such as implementations in only analog and / or digital circuitry) and

[0032] (b) combinations of hardware circuits and software, such as (as applicable) :

[0033] (i) a combination of analog and / or digital hardware circuit (s) with software / firmware and

[0034] (ii) any portions of hardware processor (s) with software (including digital signal processor (s) ) , software, and memory (ies) that work together to cause an apparatus, such as a mobile phone or server, to perform various functions) and

[0035] (c) hardware circuit (s) and or processor (s) , such as a microprocessor (s) or a portion of a microprocessor (s) , that requires software (e.g., firmware) for operation, but the software may not be present when it is not needed for operation.

[0036] This definition of circuitry applies to all uses of this term in this application, including in any claims. As a further example, as used in this application, the term circuitry also covers an implementation of merely a hardware circuit or processor (or multiple processors) or portion of a hardware circuit or processor and its (or their) accompanying software and / or firmware. The term circuitry also covers, for example and if applicable to the particular claim element, a baseband integrated circuit or processor integrated circuit for a mobile device or a similar integrated circuit in server, a cellular network device, or other computing or network device.

[0038] As used herein, the term “network device” refers to a node in a communication network via which a terminal device accesses the network and receives services therefrom. The network device may refer to a base station (BS) or an access point (AP) , for example, a node B (NodeB or NB) , an evolved NodeB (eNodeB or eNB) , a NR Next Generation NodeB (gNB) , a Remote Radio Unit (RRU) , a radio header (RH) , a remote radio head (RRH) , Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB) node, a relay, a low power node such as a femto, a pico, and so forth, depending on the applied terminology and technology. The network device is allowed to be defined as part of a gNB such as for example in CU / DU split in which case the network device is defined to be either a gNB-CU or a gNB-DU.

[0039] The term “terminal device” refers to any end device that may be capable of wireless communication. By way of example rather than limitation, a terminal device may also be referred to as a communication device, user equipment (UE) , a Subscriber Station (SS) , a Portable Subscriber Station, a Mobile Station (MS) , or an Access Terminal (AT) . The terminal device may include, but not limited to, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a smart phone, voice over IP (VoIP) phones, wireless local loop phones, a tablet, a wearable terminal device, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , portable computers, desktop computer, image capture terminal devices such as digital cameras, gaming terminal devices, music storage and playback appliances, vehicle-mounted wireless terminal devices, wireless endpoints, mobile stations, laptop-embedded equipment (LEE) , laptop-mounted equipment  (LME) , USB dongles, smart devices, wireless customer-premises equipment (CPE) , an Internet of Things (loT) device, a watch or other wearable, a head-mounted display (HMD) , a vehicle, a drone, a medical device and applications (e.g., remote surgery) , an industrial device and applications (e.g., a robot and / or other wireless devices operating in an industrial and / or an automated processing chain contexts) , a consumer electronics device, a device operating on commercial and / or industrial wireless networks, and the like. In the following description, the terms “terminal device” , “communication device” , “terminal” , “user equipment” and “UE” may be used interchangeably.

[0040] Half-Duplex (HD) is the main operation mode for a terminal device in Narrow Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT) and Enhanced Machine-Type Communications (E-MTC) . In the HD mode, the terminal device should stop uplink (UL) transmission when doing downlink (DL) reception and stop DL reception when doing UL transmission.

[0041] A terminal device in NB-IoT and E-MTC mostly operates in HD mode. Thus, when the terminal device is on UL transmission with repetitions, the terminal device may not receive the system broadcasted information and may not report the validity status in the ongoing repetitions of the current UL transmission. The repetitions may last for long time. For example, the maximum repetition duration time may be about 10s for some cases when subcarrier spacing is 15kHz or even may be about 40s for some cases when subcarrier spacing is 3.75kHz.

[0042] After the long UL repetitions, the system broadcasted information stored by the terminal device may already become invalid, even the system broadcasted information is the one read before the repetitions. Then, after the long UL repetitions, the validity of system broadcasted information will be expired.

[0043] In LTE, for the terminal device in NB-IoT, there is an UL gap designed. The UL gap may be a 40ms UL gap after each 256ms UL repetition for NPUSCH. However, the UL gap is just used for the terminal device to receive Primary Synchronization Signal (PSS) , Secondary Synchronization Signal (SSS) or Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) for DL synchronization.

[0044] The UL gap may not be used for receiving the system broadcasted information because the common factor for UL gap (for example, (256+40) ms) and a period (for example, 40 / 80 ms) of the system broadcasted information is too large and the terminal device may not wait for the UL gap to successfully read the system broadcasted information  with repetitions for the terminal device in NB-IoT with reduced number of antenna and bad channel status.

[0045] In order to solve the above and other potential problems, embodiments of the present disclosure provide an improved solution for reporting a validity status associated with the validity timer. In the solution, a first device determines a window which is within a duration of a validity timer for system broadcasted information. The system broadcasted information is used for deriving a compensation on a transmission between the first device and a second device in at least one of time domain and frequency domain. In turn, the first device transmits, within the window, a valid status report associated with the validity timer to the second device. In this way, report of the valid status report is supported. Principle and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to Figs. 1 to 6.

[0046] Fig. 1 illustrates an example communication network 100 in which embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. In some embodiments, the network 100 may be implemented as an NTN. As shown in Fig. 2, the communication network 100 comprises a first device 110, a second device 120, a satellite 130, a gateway (GW) 140 and a NTN Control Center (NCC) 150.

[0047] In some embodiments, the first device 110 may receive system broadcasted information. In some embodiments, the system broadcasted information may comprise at least one of the following: ephemeris data of the satellite 130, common TA and GNSS information.

[0048] In some embodiments, measurements of position and velocity of the satellite 130 may be made at the satellite 130 with on-board GNSS. The measurements may be collected by the NCC 150. The NCC 150 may generate the ephemeris data of the satellite 130 and transmit the ephemeris data to the GW 140. Then, the GW 140 may transmit the ephemeris data to the second device 120. In other embodiments, the second device 120 may be onboard the satellite 130. Then, the second device 120 may broadcast the ephemeris data periodically in a system information block (SIB) .

[0049] In some embodiments, the second device 120 may also broadcast the common TA periodically in the SIB.

[0050] In some embodiments, the GNSS information may be transmitted by a GNSS which is not shown in Fig. 1.

[0051] In this example, only for ease of discussion, the first device 110 is illustrated as a terminal device and the second device 120 is illustrated as a network device serving the terminal device 110. It is to be understood that the terminal device and the network device are only example implementations of the first device 110 and the second device 120, respectively, without suggesting any limitation as to the scope of the present application. Any other suitable implementations are possible as well.

[0052] It is to be understood that the numbers of first and second devices as well as the satellite, GW and NCC as shown in Fig. 1 are only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations. The network 100 may include any suitable number of first and second devices as well as the satellite, GW and NCC adapted for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0053] The communications in the network 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, LTE, LTE-evolution, LTE-advanced (LTE-A) , wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) , code division multiple access (CDMA) and global system for mobile communications (GSM) and the like. Furthermore, the communications may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols.

[0054] Fig. 2 shows a signaling chart illustrating a process 200 for reporting a validity status associated with a validity timer according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to Fig. 1. The process 200 may involve the first device 110 and the second device 120 as illustrated in Fig. 1. Although the process 200 has been described in the communication network 100 of Fig. 1, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios.

[0055] As shown in Fig. 2, the first device 110 determines (210) a window which is within a duration of a validity timer for system broadcasted information. The system broadcasted information is used for deriving a compensation on a transmission between the first device 110 and the second device 120 in at least one of time domain and frequency domain. Accordingly, the second device 120 determines (220) the window.

[0056] The first device 110 transmits (230) , within the window, a valid status report associated with the validity timer to the second device 120. Accordingly, the second device 120 receives (240) the valid status report from the first device 110.

[0057] In some embodiments, the window may be inserted in a duration of repetitions of data transmission to the second device 120, and the repetitions of data transmission to the second device 120 will be stopped within the window. This will be described with reference to Figs. 3A and 3B.

[0058] Fig. 3A shows an example of the window according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown, a window 310 is inserted in a duration 320 of repetitions of data transmission to the second device 120. The duration 320 of repetitions ends before an expiration of the validity timer for system broadcasted information. Within the window 310, the first device 110 will stop the repetitions of data transmission to the second device 120. After an end of the window 310, the first device 110 will recover the repetitions of data transmission to the second device 120.

[0059] Fig. 3B shows another example of the window according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The example of Fig. 3B is similar to the example of Fig. 3A. The example of Fig. 3B is different from the example of Fig. 3A in that a duration 340 of repetitions of data transmission to the second device 120 ends after the expiration of the validity timer. In this example, upon the expiration of the validity timer, the first device 110 will stop the repetitions of data transmission to the second device 120.

[0060] Similarly, in some embodiments, the window may be inserted in a duration of repetitions of data reception from the second device 120, and the repetition of data reception from the second device 120 will be stopped within the window.

[0061] In some embodiments, the first device 110 may receive the system broadcasted information within the window. In such some embodiments, there may be a gap for switching from reception of the system broadcasted information to transmission of the valid status report.

[0062] As mentioned above, in some embodiments, the system broadcasted information may comprise at least one of the following: ephemeris data of the satellite 130, common TA and GNSS information. In such embodiments, the first device 110 may receive at least one of the ephemeris data of the satellite 130 and the common TA from the second device 120 within the window. Additionally or alternatively, the first device 110 may receive the GNSS  information from a GNS S within the window.

[0063] In embodiments where the first device 110 receives the system broadcasted information within the window, the first device 110 may transmit the valid status report based on the receiving of the system broadcasted information.

[0064] In some embodiments, if the first device 110 fails to receive the system broadcasted information, the first device 110 may transmit the valid status report indicating the failure or the validity timer is about to expire.

[0065] In some embodiments, if the first device 110 receives the system broadcasted information successfully, the first device 110 may transmit the valid status report indicating the success. Alternatively, the first device 110 may indicate the success without transmitting the valid status report. In this way, overhead of signaling will be reduced.

[0066] In some embodiments, the first device 110 may not receive the system broadcasted information within the window. In such embodiments, the first device 110 may transmit the valid status report indicating that the validity timer is about to expire.

[0067] In some embodiments, the first device 110 may receive, from the second device 120 within the window, a feedback indicating whether the valid status report is received successfully by the second device 120. In such embodiments, there may be a gap for switching from transmission of the valid status report to receiving of the feedback.

[0068] In some embodiments, the first device 110 may determine the window by determining at least two of the following: a start of the window, an end of the window, or a length of the window.

[0069] In some embodiments, at least one of the following may be pre-defined: the start of the window, the end of the window, or the length of the window

[0070] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the first device 110 may receive configuration information about the window from the second device 120. For example, the first device 110 may receive the configuration information via radio resource control signaling, media access control (MAC) control element (CE) , or downlink control information (DCI) .

[0071] In turn, the first device 110 may determine, based on the configuration information, at least one of the following: the start of the window, the end of the window, or the length of the window.

[0072] In some embodiments, the first device 110 may select and report to the second device 120 at least one of the following: the start of the window, the end of the window, or the length of the window.

[0073] In some embodiments, the first device 110 may determine the start of the window based on a start or an expiration of the validity timer and a first offset. In some embodiments, the first offset may be pre-defined or configured by the second device 120. In some embodiments, the first offset may be represented by a first number of time units. For example, the time units may comprise millisecond, slot, subframe, or frame.

[0074] In some embodiments, the first device 110 may determine the end of the window based on the start or the expiration of the validity timer and a second offset. In some embodiments, the second offset may be pre-defined or configured by the second device 120. In some embodiments, the first offset may be represented by a second number of time units.

[0075] In some embodiments, the configuration information about the window may further indicate a ratio of time for receiving the system broadcasted information to time for transmitting the valid status report.

[0076] In some embodiments, the configuration information about the window may further indicate at least part of scheduling information for transmitting the valid status report. For example, the at least part of scheduling information may indicate at least one of the following: resource for transmitting the valid status report in time domain and frequency domain, a code rate, information about reference signals, the number of repetitions of the valid status report transmission.

[0077] In some embodiments, at least part of the scheduling information may be predefined.

[0078] In some embodiments, the first device 110 may determine a resource for transmitting the valid status report based on a resource for the repetitions of data transmission to the second device. For example, the resource for transmitting the valid status report may be the same as the resource in frequency domain for the repetitions of data transmission. In turn, the first device 110 may transmit the valid status report on the determined resource.

[0079] Fig. 4 shows a flowchart of an example method 400 implemented at a first device in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 400 will be described from the perspective of the first device 110  with reference to Fig. 1.

[0080] At block 410, the first device 110 determines a window which is within a duration of a validity timer for system broadcasted information. The system broadcasted information is used for deriving a compensation on a transmission between the first device and a second device in at least one of time domain and frequency domain.

[0081] At block 420, the first device 110 transmits, within the window, a valid status report associated with the validity timer to the second device 120.

[0082] In some embodiments, the window is inserted in a duration of repetitions of data transmission to the second device 120, and the repetitions of data transmission to the second device 120 will be stopped within the window; or the window is inserted in a duration of repetitions of data reception from the second device 120, and the repetition of data reception from the second device 120 will be stopped within the window.

[0083] In some embodiments, the first device 110 receives the system broadcasted information within the window and the first device 110 transmits the valid status report based on the receiving.

[0084] In some embodiments, in response to failure of receiving the system broadcasted information, the first device 110 transmits the valid status report indicating the failure or the validity timer is about to expire.

[0085] In some embodiments, the first device 110 transmits the valid status report indicating the validity timer is about to expire.

[0086] In some embodiments, in response to success of receiving the system broadcasted information, the first device 110 indicates the success without transmitting the valid status report.

[0087] In some embodiments, in response to success of receiving the system broadcasted information, the first device 110 transmits the valid status report indicating the success.

[0088] In some embodiments, the first device 110 receives, from the second device 120 within the window, a feedback indicating whether the valid status report is received successfully.

[0089] In some embodiments, the first device 110 determines the window by determining at least two of the following: a start of the window, an end of the window, or a length of the window.

[0090] In some embodiments, the first device 110 determines the window by: determining the start of the window based on a start or an expiration of the validity timer and a first offset; or determining the end of the window based on the start or the expiration of the validity timer and a second offset.

[0091] In some embodiments, the first device 110 determines the window based on at least one of the following: a system pre-definition, or configuration information from the second device 120.

[0092] In some embodiments, the configuration information further indicates at least part of scheduling information for transmitting the valid status report; or the at least part of scheduling information is predefined.

[0093] In some embodiments, the first device 110 determines a resource for transmitting the valid status report based on a resource for the repetitions of data transmission to the second device 120; and the first device 110 transmits the valid status report on the determined resource.

[0094] In some embodiments, the first device 110 comprises a terminal device, and the second device 120 comprises a network device.

[0095] Fig. 5 shows a flowchart of an example method 500 implemented at a first device in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The method 500 may be an example implementation of the method 400. For the purpose of discussion, the method 500 will be described from the perspective of the first device 110 with reference to Fig. 1.

[0096] At block 510, the first device 110 receives, from the second device 120, configuration information about the window in an initial access procedure or in an RRC configuration.

[0097] At block 520, the first device 110 starts repetitions of transmission to the second device 120based on grant received from the second device 120.

[0098] At block 530, the first device 110 determines whether the window starts.

[0099] If the first device 110 determines the window starts, at block 540, the first device 110 stops the ongoing repetitions of transmission and receives the system broadcasted information.

[0100] At block 550, the first device 110 determines whether the system broadcasted  information is successfully received.

[0101] If the first device 110 determines that the system broadcasted information is successfully received, at block 560, the first device 110 transmits a valid status report on configured or predefined resource within the window. The valid status report may indicate that the system broadcasted information is valid.

[0102] At block 570, the first device 110 resets the validity timer and recovers the ongoing repetitions of transmission. In some embodiments, there may be a gap between the window and recovery of the ongoing repetitions of transmission.

[0103] If the first device 110 determines that the system broadcasted information is not successfully received, at block 580, the first device 110 transmits a valid status report on configured or predefined resource within the window. The valid status report may indicate failure of reception of the system broadcasted information.

[0104] At block 590, the first device 110 stops the ongoing repetitions of transmission when the validity timer expires.

[0105] Fig. 6 shows a flowchart of an example method 600 implemented at a first device in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 600 will be described from the perspective of the second device 120 with reference to Fig. 1.

[0106] At block 610, the second device 120 determines a window which is within a duration of a validity timer for system broadcasted information. The system broadcasted information is used for deriving a compensation on a transmission between a first device 110 and the second device 120 in at least one of time domain and frequency domain.

[0107] At block 620, the second device 120 receives, within the window, a valid status report associated with the validity timer from the first device 110.

[0108] In some embodiments, the window is inserted in a duration of repetitions of data transmission to the first device 110, the repetitions of data transmission to the first device 110 will be stopped within the window; or the window is inserted in a duration of repetitions of data reception from the first device 110, the repetition of data reception from the first device 110 will be stopped within the window.

[0109] In some embodiments, the second device 120 receives the valid status report indicating failure or success of receiving the system broadcasted information by the first  device 110, or indicating the validity timer is about to expire.

[0110] In some embodiments, the second device 120 determines the success of receiving the system broadcasted information by the first device 110 if not receiving the valid status report. In such embodiments, the second device 120 may determines the information was received successfully by the first device 110, because the first device 110 continues the repetitions of transmission to the second device 120 without providing the explicit status report.

[0111] In some embodiments, the second device 120 transmits, to the first device 110 within the window, a feedback indicating whether the valid status report is received successfully.

[0112] In some embodiments, the second device 120 determines the window by determining at least two of the following: a start of the window, an end of the window, or a length of the window.

[0113] In some embodiments, the second device 120 determines the start of the window based on a start or an expiration of the validity timer and a first offset; or determines the end of the window based on the start or the expiration of the validity timer and a second offset.

[0114] In some embodiments, the second device 120 determines the window based on a system pre-definition.

[0115] In some embodiments, the second device 120 transmits configuration information about the window to the first device 110.

[0116] In some embodiments, the configuration information further indicates at least part of scheduling information for transmitting the valid status report; or the at least part of scheduling information is predefined.

[0117] In some embodiments, the second device 120 determines a resource for receiving the valid status report based on a resource for the repetitions of data reception from the first device 110; and the second device 120 receives the valid status report on the determined resource.

[0118] In some embodiments, the first device 110 comprises a terminal device, and the second device 120 comprises a network device.

[0119] In some example embodiments, an apparatus capable of performing any of the  method 400 (for example, a first apparatus) may comprise means for performing the respective steps of the method 400. The means may be implemented in any suitable form. For example, the means may be implemented in a circuitry or software module.

[0120] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus comprises: means for determining a window which is within a duration of a validity timer for system broadcasted information, the system broadcasted information being used for deriving a compensation on a transmission between the first apparatus and a second apparatus in at least one of time domain and frequency domain; and means for transmitting, within the window, a valid status report associated with the validity timer to the second apparatus.

[0121] In some embodiments, the window is inserted in a duration of repetitions of data transmission to the second apparatus, and the repetitions of data transmission to the second apparatus will be stopped within the window; or the window is inserted in a duration of repetitions of data reception from the second apparatus, and the repetition of data reception from the second apparatus will be stopped within the window.
