Description

[0001] A LOAD PROTECTION SYSTEM

[0002] TECHNICAL FIELD

[0003] The present invention relates to a load protection system which provides elimination of the irregularities which exist in the energy coming from the mains during energy transfer to said electrical vehicle from a charging station provided for charging at least one electrical vehicle and which provides increasing of efficiency by providing reduction of power consumption in cases where an electrical vehicle is not connected to the energy unit.

[0004] PRIOR ART

[0005] There are various vehicles developed for providing transportation. One of said vehicles is electrical vehicles which become to be used more frequently in recent times. Besides the spreading of environment-friendly perspective and sensitivity against global warming widely, since conventional energy sources like coal, natural gas and petroleum are limited and since these sources decrease gradually depending on the increasing energy need, electrical vehicles become prominent as an alternative in new technology searches in recent years.

[0006] Electrical vehicles obtain the energy, needed for operation, from battery sets. Said energy sources have to be charged again after a specific displacement distance of the electrical vehicle. In this case, charging stations are provided for charging vehicles. The energy stored at said charging stations is transferred to the battery and / or battery set of the electrical vehicle by means of a connection element. There are systems which provide receiving electrical energy directly from the mains as well as there are systems which provide storing of electrical energy at the charging stations. If the infrastructure is not sufficiently good, this may lead to an electrical leakage, electrical fluctuation during transfer of electrical energy from the mains to the charging station. In this case, during transfer of the energy which has electrical leakage, the battery of the vehicle may get damaged and even may become useless.

[0007] As a result, because of the abovementioned problems, an improvement is required in the related technical field. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0008] The present invention relates to a load protection system, for eliminating the abovementioned disadvantages and for bringing new advantages to the related technical field.

[0009] An object of the present invention is to provide a load protection system which eliminates the irregularities which occur during energy transfer from the charging station to the electrical vehicle and which provides a safe energy transfer.

[0010] Another object of the present invention is to provide a load protection system which provides increasing of energy efficiency by providing lowering of power consumption in case there is no electrical vehicle connected to the charging station.

[0011] In order to realize the abovementioned objects and the objects which are to be deducted from the detailed description below, the present invention is a load protection system which provides elimination of the irregularities which exist in the energy coming from mains during energy transfer to a load from a power unit which allows flow of the electrical energy, produced by means of pluralities of solar panels placed to a charging station provided for charging at least one electrical vehicle and stored in an energy storage unit and taken directly from the mains by means of an energy line, to a load, said load protection system provides increasing of efficiency by providing reduction of power consumption in cases where a load is not connected to the energy unit. Accordingly, the improvement is that the subject matter load protection system comprises a switching element for allowing passage of the electricity, transferred towards the power unit from the mains placed onto the energy line, through a first line and through a second line; an isolation transformer placed onto the first line for preventing electrical leakages in case it is detected that there is electrical leakage in electricity. Thus, in case there is a load at the output, in other words, while the electrical vehicle is being charged, electrical leakages shall be prevented, and energy flow shall be provided in a safe manner. Moreover, charging process is prevented from being affected by conditions like voltage irregularities, harmonics, frequency alterations which may occur in the mains.

[0012] In a possible embodiment of the present invention, a control unit is provided for providing controlling operation of said switching element. Thus, by means of the control unit, the switching element can guide the current to the first line or to the second line in accordance with the condition of low current or high current. In another possible embodiment of the present invention, a current measurement means is provided between the mains and the switching element for measuring the current passing through the energy line. Thus, in cases where the passing current is lower or higher than the desired value, passage of current shall be allowed through the desired transmission line by means of the switching method.

[0013] In another possible embodiment of the present invention, the control unit is configured to control whether connection has been set up between the charging station and the load. Thus, operation of the isolation transformer is prevented in case no connection has been set up, and thereby, power efficiency is increased.

[0014] In another possible embodiment of the present invention, the control unit is configured to provide transfer of a second triggering signal to the switching element for providing passage of electricity through the second line in case it is detected that there is no connection between the charging station and the load.

[0015] In another possible embodiment of the present invention, the control unit is configured to provide receiving of measurement data instantaneously from the current measurement means in case the control unit detects that there is connection between the charging station and the load and to provide comparing of the measurement data with a predetermined reference value and to provide transferring of the first triggering signal to the switching element and to allow passage of current through the first line in case it detects that the measurement data is over the reference value as a result of comparison, and to provide transferring of the second triggering signal to the switching element and to allow passage of current through the second line in case it detects that the measurement data is lower than the reference value. Thus, current is transferred to the desired transmission line according to the amplitude of the current, and thereby, the system operates in a safe manner.

[0016] BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES

[0017] In Figure 1 , the representative view of the electrical charging unit for the electrical vehicle is given.

[0018] In Figure 2, a representative view of the control unit of the electrical charging unit for the electrical vehicle is given. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0019] In this detailed description, the subject matter is explained with references to examples without forming any restrictive effect only in order to make the subject more understandable.

[0020] The present invention relates to a load protection system (10) which provides elimination of the irregularities which exist in the energy coming from the mains (13) during energy transfer to said electrical vehicle from a charging station provided for charging at least one electrical vehicle, said load protection system (10) provides increasing of efficiency by providing reduction of power consumption in cases where an electrical vehicle is not connected to the energy unit.

[0021] With reference to Figure 1 , said charging station comprises pluralities of solar panels (11). There is a battery provided for storing the energy produced in said solar panel (11 ). Said battery directly gets energy from the mains (13) for meeting the energy need in case there is no sunlight. There is a power unit (15) which provides transformation of the energy taken from said mains (13) and the energy which exists in the battery and the energy produced in solar panels (11 ) into suitable usage in order to be transferred to electrical vehicle. Said power unit (15) provides realization of AC-DC / DC-AC / DC-DC transformations and provides transfer thereof to the vehicle battery by means of a first connection element. Electrical vehicle comprises a second connection element which provides connection of the electrical vehicle battery to said first connection element.

[0022] With reference to Figure 1 and 2, electrical energy is transferred from the mains (13) to the power unit (15) by means of an energy line (14). A current measurement means (144) is provided on said energy line (14) for providing measuring of the current of the electricity received from the mains (13). In a possible embodiment of the present invention, an ammeter or sensor is used as said current measurement means (144). There is a control unit (16) for receiving the current values measured by means of the current measurement means (144). The control unit (16) is configured to provide instantaneously receiving the current value measured by means of the current measurement means (144). There is a switching element (143) on the energy line (14), provided in a manner allowing passage of the current, which passes through the current measurement means (144), through a first line (141 ) or through a second line (142). In a possible embodiment of the present invention, an electronic element like a relay, a contactor, etc. can be used as said switching element (143). There is an isolation transformer (1411 ) provided on the second line (142). The isolation transformer (1411 ) provides dampening of electrical leakages and regulation of the irregularities which exist in the mains.

[0023] With reference to Figure 2, the control unit (16) firstly provides controlling of whether the first connection element and the second connection element are connected. The control unit (16) provides transfer of the second triggering signal to the switching element (143) for allowing passage of electricity through the second line (142) in case the control unit (16) detects that the first connection element is not connected to the second connection element. While the switching element (143) allows passage of electricity through the second line (142) depending on the second triggering signal, it prevents passage of electricity through the first line (141). In other words, passage of current through the isolation transformer (1411) is prevented. In cases where an electrical vehicle is not connected to the charging station, this condition is activated and the power consumption which occurs depending on usage of the isolation transformer (1411 ) is decreased. In case the control unit (16) detects that the first connection element is connected to the second connection element, it provides taking of the current values measured by means of the current measurement means (144). The control unit (16) provides comparing of the measurement data, received from the current measurement means (144), with a predetermined reference value. The control unit (16) provides transfer of the first triggering signal to the switching element (143) for allowing passage of electricity through the first line (141) in case it is detected that the current value is lower than the reference value. While the switching element (143) allows passage of electricity through the first line (141) depending on the first triggering signal, it prevents passage of electricity through the second line (142). In case the control unit (16) detects that the current value is bigger than the reference value, it provides transfer of the second triggering signal to the switching element (143) for allowing passage of electricity through the second line (142). While the switching element allows passage of electricity through the second line (142) depending on the second triggering signal, it prevents passage of electricity through the first line (141). The irregularities in electricity are dampened by means of isolation transformer (1411 ) provided at the second line (142). In this case, electrical leakages, which exist on electricity, are dampened by means of isolation transformer (1411). This provides elimination of the leakage currents from electricity before the electricity is transferred to the power unit (15). As the leakage currents are dampened, the battery of the electrical vehicle is prevented from being damaged.

[0024] An exemplary operation scenario of the present invention is hereunder described; An electrical vehicle battery is connected to a charging station in order to be charged. Connection is provided between the battery of the electrical vehicle and the power unit (15) provided at the charging station. Energy is transferred to the power unit (15) from the mains (13). Current values are instantaneously measured from the current measurement means (144) provided on the energy line (14) which provides transfer of energy between the mains (13) and the power unit (15). The control unit (16) compares the current values received from the current measurement means (144) with a reference value. In case the current value taken from the current measurement means (144) is lower than the reference value and / or no current value is observed, current is allowed to pass through the first line (141). The control unit (16) provides joining of the switching element (143) to the first line (141) and provides separation thereof from the second line (142). Thus, current passes through the first line (141 ) and does not pass through the second line (142). In case it is detected that the current is bigger than the reference value, the current is allowed to pass through the second line (142) and is prevented from passing through the first line (141 ) by the switching element (143). The high current, which passes through the second line (142), passes through the isolation transformer (1411 ) and is dampened. In this case, the current is provided to be lowered to a lower value than the reference value, and the transfer of the current to the power unit (15) is provided. AC / DC transformation of the electricity transferred to the power unit (15) is realized and DC electricity is transferred to the battery of the electrical vehicle by means of the connection element.

[0025] In accordance with another operation scenario of the present invention; it is detected that no electrical vehicle is connected to the charging station. In this case, the control unit (16) provides transfer of the second triggering signal to the switching element (143) for providing passage of the energy, transferred from the mains (13) to the power unit (15), through the second line (142). Thus, during transfer of energy from the mains (13) to the power unit (15), unnecessarily usage of the isolation transformer (1411) is prevented. In this case, energy is used efficiently.

[0026] The protection scope of the present invention is set forth in the annexed claims and cannot be restricted to the illustrative disclosures given above, under the detailed description. It is because a person skilled in the relevant art can obviously produce similar embodiments under the light of the foregoing disclosures, without departing from the main principles of the present invention.
