Description

Technical background

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a divisible cable drum with two identical, nestable halves.

[0002] Cable reels are used to wind and store electrical cables. Common cable reels have two opposing sidewalls and a reel or cylindrical drum onto which the cable is wound, and may include a mechanism for rotating the drum. The reel itself is often hollow and made of a robust material such as plastic or metal. The reel is designed to allow the cable to be wound evenly, preventing damage or tangling.

[0003] When the cable needs to be wound up, it is placed around the reel, and the reel is rotated, winding the cable up. When unwinding, the cable is pulled off the reel as it rotates. The mechanism for rotating the reel can vary. On smaller cable reels, the reel is often turned manually using a crank or handle. On larger or professional cable reels, a spring mechanism or an electric motor can be used to automatically wind or unwind the reel.

[0004] The primary purpose of a cable reel is to neatly coil and protect the cable when not in use. Coiling prevents the cable from becoming damaged by tangling, kinking, or fraying. The reel also allows for easy transport of the cable from one location to another, as it is coiled in a compact and well-organized manner. State of the art

[0005] For the transport of empty cable drums, it can also be advantageous if the cable drums can be divided into two, preferably identical halves, which can be nested inside each other when separated. For example, US Pat. No. 3,970,268 A and DE 42 02 218 A1 each disclose cable drums that can be divided into two identical halves. The respective identical halves are each hollow in such a way that they can be nested inside each other. For this purpose, the halves essentially have a hollow reel section for winding up a cable and a side wall section for supporting the wound-up cable. The respective reel sections have locking means for connecting to the other half in order to assemble the halves into a cable drum. A problem with known solutions is correctly adjusting the locking mechanism of the two halves. If the locking mechanism is set too loosely, the two halves can come loose unintentionally or when a cable is wound up.However, if the locking mechanism is set too tightly, it may be unergonomic for a user to release the locking mechanism of the halves in order to nest the two halves together for transport. Summary of Revelation

[0006] Thus, it is an object of the present disclosure to overcome or at least mitigate the disadvantages of the prior art and, in particular, to provide a separable cable drum that prevents accidental detachment of the individual halves of the cable drum in an assembled state. Furthermore, the two halves should be easily detachable from each other when no cable is wound on the cable drum.

[0007] This object is achieved by a cable drum having the features of claim 1.

[0008] The present disclosure relates to a divisible cable drum / cable reel, preferably for winding and transporting a cable and / or wire, comprising two identical / similar (cable drum) halves that can be connected to one another. Each of the halves has a hollow, frustoconically shaped reel section extending toward the center of the cable drum for winding the cable; and a side wall section that laterally borders the reel section on its larger-diameter side for laterally supporting the wound cable. The reel sections are each transversely slit or have, preferably U-shaped, recesses on their smaller-diameter side facing the center of the cable drum, so that the remaining material tongues of the reel section of one half and the remaining material tongues of the reel section of the other half can be axially inserted into one another in a state rotated relative to one another with respect to the longitudinal axis. The nested halves have complementary shaped sections which engage with each other due to a radial force applied to the reel sections when the cable is wound up and form a temporary positive connection, preferably in the axial and / or circumferential direction, which can only be released again by completely unwinding the cable.

[0009] In other words, the two halves of the divisible cable drum can each have a hollow roller / roller section for winding the cable and a lateral side surface. The two halves can be connected to one another to form the cable drum in an assembled state. For this purpose, outer walls of the respective hollow rollers have the recesses, preferably two diametrically opposite with respect to the longitudinal axis of the roller. The recesses define the remaining material tongues, preferably two diametrically opposite with respect to the longitudinal axis of the roller. The material tongues engage in the recesses when the cable drum is assembled. This allows the shaped section of one half to reach the complementary shaped section of the other half and form the positive connection between the respective complementary shaped sections. In the assembled state of the cable drum, the radial force can be exerted on the respective reel sections by winding the cable onto the roller, through which the shaped sections of the respective halves engage with the respective other shaped section.

[0010] In other words, the cable drum (in the connected / assembled state) has two opposing side discs and the roller that connects the two opposite side discs. The roller protrudes from a center of the respective side discs. The roller can be divided centrally / in the middle of its longitudinal extent so that the cable drum can be divided into two identical halves. The cable is wound onto the roller in the assembled state. By winding the cable, the roller is subjected to an external (cable) force, which preferably acts radially inwards, such that the corresponding shaped sections of the respective halves engage with one another and form the positive connection between the two halves. In this context, "complementary" can specifically mean that the two mold sections can be brought into a positive fit such that the two halves cannot be separated, or can only be separated with great difficulty. The two complementary mold sections can therefore form an undercut that prevents movement along the longitudinal axis of the two halves.

[0011] The essence of the present disclosure is therefore that two halves of the divisible cable drum are in a positive connection by a force exerted on the cable drum by the winding of the cable, wherein the positive connection can only be released when the cable is unwound.

[0012] The cable drum according to the present disclosure thus has the advantage that the positive connection formed between the two complementary shaped sections holds the two halves together. The complementary shaped sections engage automatically due to the applied radial force. This ensures that the two assembled halves do not separate when the cable is wound onto the cable drum or the roller. Additional locking of the two halves by a user is not necessary. Thus, a high level of operational reliability of the cable drum with the cable wound onto the roller can be ensured. Furthermore, the positive connection between the two halves is released or loosened "automatically" or independently when no cable is wound onto the roller. This allows the cable drum to be disassembled quickly and easily without the cable. This can save a user time and / or make handling the cable drum more comfortable.

[0013] Advantageous further developments of the present disclosure are the subject of the appended subclaims.

[0014] Preferably, within the reel sections, material webs can be provided that are evenly spaced in the circumferential direction, preferably two diametrically opposed (with respect to the longitudinal axis), which are arranged twisted relative to the material tongues, taper towards the side of the side wall section, and enclose a central annular or disc-shaped holding section. The material tongues of the reel section can each have radially inwardly pointing locking hooks at a free end, which, when the halves are assembled, engage over the annular or disc-shaped holding section and, through the radial force applied to the reel sections when the cable is wound, hook the locking hooks and the annular or disc-shaped holding section together.

[0015] The ring- or disc-shaped holding section can in particular be formed in a plane which is spanned by the side wall section.

[0016] In other words, the material webs can be formed in an interior space of the respective reel sections. The material webs can together have a truncated cone shape that tapers towards the side wall section. Thus, the preferably two material webs together can form a cone. A (material) bridge can be formed between the material webs, which can be designed as a ring that is connected to the material webs. The material tongues can be elastic, so that the locking hooks can be bent radially inward by the radial force. Thus, the radial force can act in the direction of the locking hooks and the locking hooks can hook into the ring- or disk-shaped holding section. The locking hooks can in particular protrude radially inward from the outer wall of the reel section into the interior space formed by the reel section.Because the locking hooks are located at the free end of the material tabs, they can reach the ring- or disc-shaped retaining section at the opposite end of the other half, ensuring a positive fit between the two halves. The material tab of one half can thus engage the recess of the other half when assembled. The recess ensures that the material tab, and thus the locking hooks, connect with the complementary shaped section of the other half.

[0017] By overlapping the ring- or disc-shaped holding section of one half with the locking hooks of the other half, relative movement between the two halves can be prevented or minimized. The ring- or disc-shaped holding section can thus function as an undercut into which the locking hooks engage. As the cable is wound, an external (cable) force can be applied to the reel section and especially the material tongues. The external (cable) force can act in the direction of the locking hooks and can cause the locking hooks to engage or increase the engagement of the locking hooks in the ring- or disc-shaped holding section.

[0018] The locking hooks can be designed to run circumferentially along the outer wall or as individual locking lugs spaced apart from one another in the circumferential direction.

[0019] The material tongue may have a shoulder spaced from the free end. When the two halves are assembled, the shoulder may abut a corresponding surface on the ring- or disc-shaped retaining portion and limit the insertion movement.

[0020] Preferably, the two halves can be rotated relative to each other by 90° with respect to the longitudinal axis in the assembled state. In other words, the webs of the respective halves to be connected can be offset from each other by 90° in the circumferential direction. By rotating the respective halves relative to each other, it can be ensured that the respective material tongues of one half can engage in the corresponding recesses of the other half.

[0021] According to an optional aspect of the present disclosure, the material tongues of one half can be guided along the corresponding material webs of the other half. The material tongues of one half can thus lie parallel to the corresponding material webs of the other half. Preferably, the material tongues can be arranged within the material webs. This allows a double side wall of the reel sections to be formed, at least in sections. This can increase the stability of the reel sections and minimize the risk of material failure due to the radial force of the wound cable. Furthermore, the user can feel more comfortable plugging the two halves together if the respective material tongues are guided when inserted into the other half.

[0022] Preferably, in the assembled state, the free ends of the material tongues of one half can end flush with the side wall section of the other half. The ring-shaped or disc-shaped holding section can be offset relative to the side wall section. This means that the point of engagement of the locking hooks in the ring-shaped or disc-shaped holding section of one half can be offset from the side wall section in the direction of the material tongue of this half. The locking hooks can be spaced from the end or an end section of the material tongues. Due to the offset between the side wall section and the holding section, the free ends of the material tongues of the other half can end flush with the side wall section of this half.In other words, the ring- or disc-shaped holding section can have a locking edge as a shaped section, into which the locking hooks engage / hook in the assembled state and the locking edge is offset rearwardly from the side wall section (in the direction of the material tongue).

[0023] Preferably, the two halves can be axially symmetrical with respect to their longitudinal axis. The longitudinal axis can extend in the vertical direction of the truncated cone-like reel section. Thus, the respective material tongues can be diametrically opposed if each half has more than one material tongue. The axial symmetry ensures that a material tongue of one half is also opposite a recess in the other half, into which the material tongue can engage. Furthermore, a material tongue of one half can thus rest against a material web of the other half.

[0024] According to a further optional aspect of the present disclosure, the material tongues can be elastically deformable, particularly radially. As a result, the material tongues can be pushed radially inward by the radial force, causing the locking hooks to engage the holding section. When the radial force decreases because the cable is unwound, the elastic material tongues can spring back radially outward and release the undercut.

[0025] Preferably, the side wall section can be ring-shaped and open outward in the center, so that when the halves are separated, the reel section of one half can be inserted from the outside into the reel section of the other half, thus allowing multiple halves to be nested. Empty cable drums can thus be stored and transported in a space-saving manner, thus saving costs.

[0026] The individual halves can be rotated relative to each other during nesting so that the material tongues of one half can rest next to the material webs within the reel section of the other half. The individual halves can be rotated relative to each other, preferably by 90° in the circumferential direction.

[0027] According to a further optional aspect of the present disclosure, the two halves can be formed in one piece, in particular from plastic. The two halves can be manufactured, for example, as integral components by injection molding. This eliminates the need for assembly of individual components and can save manufacturing costs. Injection molding can ensure cost-effective mass production. Plastic is particularly cost-effective and can ensure a low weight of the cable drum. The two halves can have reinforcing ribs, in particular on an inner side of the reel section, on an outer side of the material webs, and / or on an outer side of the side wall ends.

[0028] Preferably, the two reel sections, when plugged together, form a double truncated cone-shaped reel whose diameter decreases from the two side wall sections toward the center of the cable drum. This ensures that the cable is wound in the center of the cable drum. Thus, the force during winding of the cable can be applied in the center of the cable drum, where the respective shaped sections are also located.

[0029] According to a further optional aspect of the present disclosure, the ring- or disc-shaped holding section can have at least one opening. The at least one opening can be prepared and designed to receive the corresponding material tongue of the other half. This means that the material tongue can be pushed into the opening or pass through the opening. The at least one opening can be elongated and arcuate and adapted to the shape (of an end section) of the material tongue. The opening can lie in the plane of the side wall section. The locking hooks of the material tongues can therefore protrude through the openings and hook into the ring- or disc-shaped holding section from the side of the side wall section.

[0030] Preferably, the ring- or disc-shaped holding section connects at least two material webs. This means that the ring- or disc-shaped holding section can be arranged between or radially within several material webs. The two diametrically opposed material webs can ensure symmetry of the half.

[0031] Preferably, the ring- or disc-shaped retaining section forms an undercut as the shaped section for the locking hooks. For this purpose, the ring- or disc-shaped retaining section can form locking edges designed to receive the locking hooks. The locking edges can be adjacent to the openings. The locking edges can also be offset parallel to the side wall section. Thus, the side wall section can be flush with the free end when assembled.

[0032] One aspect of the disclosure relates to a cable drum half for a previously described divisible cable drum. Such a cable drum half has a hollow, frustoconically shaped reel section extending toward the cable drum center for winding a cable, and a side wall section laterally bounding the reel section on its larger-diameter side for laterally supporting the wound cable. The reel section is transversely slit or has, preferably U-shaped, recesses on its smaller-diameter side facing the cable drum center, so that the remaining material tongues of the reel section can be axially inserted into one another with material tongues of a reel section of a second identical cable drum half in a state rotated relative to one another with respect to their longitudinal axes. The cable drum half further comprises mutually complementary shaped sections which, when two identical cable drum halves are inserted into one another, engage with one another due to a radial force applied to the reel sections when the cable is wound up and form a temporary positive connection, preferably in the axial and / or circumferential direction, which can only be released again by completely unwinding the cable.

[0033] A cable drum half according to the invention essentially has the shape of a pointed hat which is open at the top and has a hat-brim-shaped side wall section and a hat-crown-shaped reel section, wherein the hat crown or the reel section is open at the top and has upwardly open, symmetrically arranged recesses in order, on the one hand, to be able to nest two or more cable drum halves like hats inside each other and, on the other hand, to be able to insert the open hat crowns or reel sections of two halves into each other twisted with respect to each other. Detailed description of the characters

[0035] Fig. 1 shows a cable drum 2 in a separated state. The cable drum 2 has two identical halves 4, which are not connected to each other in the separated state. The two halves 4 each have a hollow, truncated cone-shaped reel section 6 for winding a cable (in Fig. 8 shown) and a side wall section 8. The side wall section 8 laterally delimits the reel section 6 on a larger diameter side and laterally supports the wound cable. The side wall section 8 is essentially designed as a round disc that extends radially outward from the reel section 6.

[0036] The halves 4 are essentially (pointed) hat-shaped, with a hat-brim-like side wall section 8 and a (pointed) hat crown-like reel section 6.

[0037] The reel sections 6 are each cross-slit on their smaller-diameter sides or have two (or three) U-shaped recesses 10. The recesses 10 define two (or three) remaining material tongues 12, which are preferably arranged diametrically opposite each other. The material tongues 12 of one half 4 are inserted into the recesses 10 of the other half 4 to connect the two halves. For this purpose, the two halves 4 are rotated by 90° (or 60°) relative to a longitudinal axis of the halves 4 and inserted into one another. Locking hooks 14 are attached to the free ends of the material tongues 12. The locking hooks 14 protrude radially inward into an interior of the reel section 6. The locking hooks 14 can be designed to run circumferentially around the free ends of the material tongues 12.

[0038] Within the reel sections 6, two diametrically opposed (or three evenly spaced in the circumferential direction) material webs 16 are arranged. The material webs 16 are rotated or offset in the circumferential direction with respect to the material tongues 12. The material webs 16 taper towards the side of the side wall section 8 and enclose a central annular or disc-shaped holding section 18. The annular or disc-shaped holding section 18 lies essentially in a common plane with the side wall section 8. The annular or disc-shaped holding section 18 has two (or three) elongated openings 20 through which the material tongues 12 of the other half can be inserted. The openings 20 are arc-shaped and extend around the annular or disc-shaped holding section 18.The ring- or disc-shaped holding section 18 has locking edges 22 into which the locking hooks 14 can engage when the cable drum 2 is assembled, thus forming a positive connection. The locking edges 22 and the locking hooks 14 together form complementary shaped sections 24. The locking edges 22 are spaced parallel to the side wall section 8.

[0039] Fig. 2 shows the cable drum 2 in the connected or assembled state. The two halves 4 are connected to one another. For this purpose, the two halves 4 are each rotated by 90° to one another and put together. The material tongues 12 of one half 4 engage in the recesses 10 of the other half 4. The two reel sections 6 of the halves 4 then extend towards the center of the cable drum. The material tongues 12 then lie parallel to the material webs 16 within the reel section 6 of the other half 4 and protrude through the openings 20 on the annular or disc-shaped holding section 18. The locking hooks 14 on the material tongues 12 engage in the locking edges 22 on the annular or disc-shaped holding section 18 and thus form a positive connection. The locking hooks 14 of one half 4 thus engage behind the openings 20 in the locking edges 22 as seen from one half 4 and thus form an undercut.Since the locking edges 22 are spaced parallel to the side wall section 8 or offset to the rear (in the direction of the material tongue 12), the free ends of the material tongues 12 of one half 4 are flush with the side wall section 8 of the other half 4. This means that the half 4 can be placed upright on a floor without the material tongue 12 protruding from a base surface 8 of the side wall section 8.

[0040] Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of the frustoconical half 4. The recesses 10 in the reel section 6 define the two remaining material tongues 12. The locking hooks 14 are arranged at the free end of the material tongues 12 and form the forming section 24. The material tongues 12 have two shoulders 26, from which the locking hooks 14 are spaced. When the material tongues 12 are inserted, the shoulders 26 rest against the ring- or disc-shaped holding section 18 of the other half 4 and thus limit an insertion path of the two halves 4 in the insertion direction. The half 4 is manufactured by injection molding and has reinforcing ribs 28 on the inside of the material tongues 12.

[0041] Fig. 4 shows an underside of the frustoconical half 4. The material webs 16 are arranged within the reel section 6. The material webs 16 are connected to an inner side of the reel section 6 and extend converging in the direction of the side wall end 8. The ring- or disc-shaped holding section 18 with the openings 20 is arranged between the material webs 16. The ring- or disc-shaped holding section 18 forms the locking edges 22 and thus the shaped section 24. The material webs 16 and an underside of the side wall section 8 also have reinforcing ribs 28. The half 4 is essentially axially symmetrical with respect to a longitudinal axis of the half 4.

[0042] Fig. 5 shows a side view of the cable drum 2 in the assembled state. The two reel sections 6 together form a double truncated cone-shaped reel, the diameter of which decreases from the two side wall sections towards the center of the cable drum. The cable (in Fig. 8 shown). Due to the smaller diameter in the axial center, the wound cable slides towards the center, exactly where the shaped sections 18, 22 of the halves 4 are located, so that already at the beginning of the winding, the shaped sections 18, 22 are pressed against each other by the tensile and radial force of the cable and hook together.

[0043] The assembled cable drum 2 is essentially axially symmetrical with respect to an axis of symmetry which runs through the center of the reel parallel to the side wall sections 8. Fig. 5 shows that the end sections of the material tongues 12 do not protrude from the base body of the assembled cable drum 2.

[0044] Fig. 6 shows a sectional view through the cable drum 2 in the assembled state. The individual halves 4 are rotated relative to one another by 90° in the circumferential direction. The reel section 6 extends from the side wall section 8 to the center of the cable drum. The material tongues 12 of one half 4 each engage in the recess 10 of the other half 4. The material tongues 12 are guided parallel to the material webs 16 of the other half 4 and are each arranged on the inside of the material webs 16. The material webs 16 each extend from an inside of the reel section 6 in the direction of the side wall section 8. The free ends of the material tongues 12 are passed through the openings 20. The locking hooks 14 engage (at least partially) in the locking edges 22 of the annular or disc-shaped holding section 18. The free ends of the material tongues 12 are flush with the side wall section 8 of the other half 4 of the base area 8.

[0045] Fig. 6 shows a cable drum 2 on which no cable is wound. The locking hooks 14 are at least partially engaged with the locking edge 22 of the other half 4. However, the connection / locking / positive fit of the two halves 4 is not very strong and can therefore be easily removed. Fig. 7 shows a detailed view of the section view of the Fig. 6 . It is clearly visible that the locking hooks 14 do not rest with their full locking surface on the locking edges 22.

[0046] Fig. 8 shows a sectional view through the cable drum 2 in the assembled state with a wound cable 30. Winding the cable 30 onto the reel sections 6 causes a radial force that acts radially inward on the material tongues 12. This (external) radial force elastically deforms or deforms the material tongues 12, thus moving the locking hooks 14 radially inward in the direction of the force. Thus, the locking hooks 14 engage the locking edges 22 over a larger area. Fig. 9 shows a detailed view of the section view of the Fig. 8 . It is shown that the locking hook 14 rests with its entire locking surface on the locking edge 22, thus forming the (temporary) positive connection. This means that the positive connection between the formed sections of the two halves 4 is more secure when the cable 30 is wound onto the reel sections 6. When the cable 30 is completely unwound, the elastic material tongues 12 bend back, and the formed sections release the positive connection.

[0047] Fig. 9 shows several cable drums 2 that are nested within each other. The respective hollow halves 4 are designed to nest within each other when separated. By nesting the halves 4, the individual halves 4 can be stored in a space-saving manner, thus saving storage and / or transport costs when no cable 30 is wound on the cable drum 2. The individual halves 4 are nested within each other, rotated 90° around their longitudinal axes. Bezugszeichenliste

7. Divisible cable drum (2) according to one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in thatWhen assembled, the free ends of the material tongues (12) of one half (4) are flush with the side wall section (8) of the other half (4).

8. Divisible cable drum (2) according to one of claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the two halves (4) are axially symmetrical with respect to their longitudinal axis.

9. Divisible cable drum (2) according to one of claims 1 to 8, characterized in that the material tongues (12) are elastically deformable, in particular radially.

10. Divisible cable drum (2) according to one of claims 1 to 9, characterized in that the side wall section (8) is ring-shaped and centrally open outwards, so that when the halves (4) are separated, the reel section (6) of one half (4) can be inserted from the outside into the reel section (6) of the other half (4) and in this way a plurality of halves (4) can be nested into one another.

11. Divisible cable drum (2) according to one of claims 1 to 10, characterized in thatthe two halves (4) are formed in one piece, in particular from plastic.

12. Divisible cable drum (2) according to one of claims 1 to 11, characterized in that the two reel sections (6) when plugged together form a double truncated cone-shaped reel, the diameter of which decreases from the two side wall sections (8) towards the centre of the cable drum.

13. Cable drum half (4) for a divisible cable drum (2) according to one of claims 1 to 12, comprising: a hollow, frustoconically shaped reel section (6) extending toward the center of the cable drum for winding a cable (30); and a side wall section (8) laterally delimiting the reel section (6) on its larger-diameter side for laterally supporting the wound cable (30), wherein the reel section (6) is transversely slit on its smaller-diameter side facing the center of the cable drum or has, preferably, U-shaped recesses (10), so that the remaining material tongues (12) of the reel section (6) can be axially inserted into one another with material tongues (12) of a reel section (6) of a second identical cable drum half (4) in a state rotated relative to one another with respect to their longitudinal axes; characterized in thatthe cable drum half (4) has mutually complementary shaped sections (24) which, when two identical cable drum halves (4) are inserted into one another, engage with one another due to a radial force applied to the reel sections (6) when the cable (30) is wound up and form a temporary positive connection, preferably in the axial and / or circumferential direction, which can only be released again by completely unwinding the cable (30).

14. Cable drum half (4) according to claim 13, characterized in thatWithin the reel section (6), there are provided, in the circumferential direction, evenly spaced, preferably two diametrically opposed, material webs (16), which are arranged rotated relative to the material tongues (12), taper towards the side of the side wall section (8), and enclose a central annular or disc-shaped holding section (18); the material tongues (12) of the reel section (6) each have, at their free ends, radially inwardly pointing locking hooks (14), which, when two identical cable drum halves (4) are assembled, engage over the annular or disc-shaped holding section (18), and hook the locking hooks (14) and the annular or disc-shaped holding section (18) together due to the radial force applied to the reel sections (16) when the cable (18) is wound up.
