Abstract
Description
[0001] Packages incorporating means of retaining objects
[0002] The field of invention is logistics.
[0003] More specifically, the invention relates to a package for transporting objects between two destinations, the package incorporating means for retaining objects.
[0004] To transport an object safely and securely, packages such as boxes or cartons are known.
[0005] Generally speaking, packages comprise a box with a base and a peripheral rim which together define an internal volume in which the object to be transported is housed.
[0006] The peripheral edge can be movable relative to the bottom of the box. As such, it includes several panels that can be folded down onto the bottom or as an extension of the bottom of the box.
[0007] The packages also include a cover that can move relative to the box. These covers can, in particular, adopt a closed position in which the cover closes the internal volume of the box.
[0008] In order to protect the objects being transported, some packages include means of retention to keep the object to be transported in position in the box.
[0009] Restraint means are known which take the form of foam panels integrated into the box and the lid. The foam panels can, if necessary, be attached to the box. In other words, the foam panels can be integrated into the box only if their presence is required.
[0010] More precisely, the foam panels are secured to the bottom of the box, possibly to its peripheral edge, and to the lid. The object to be transported is then inserted into the internal volume so as to come into contact with the foam and to be blocked by the foam of the bottom and the foam of the lid.
[0011] The major drawback of this type of restraint is its thickness, or, in other words, the space it takes up in the internal volume of the body.
[0012] In fact, the foam takes up a major part of the internal volume of the box. However, the foam has elastic characteristics so as to form deformable retaining means to fit the contour of the object to be transported.
[0013] However, depending on the size of the item, multiple packages should be planned.
[0014] For example, for a large item and for a small item, the same box cannot be used. In the case of a small item, if a box or package suitable for a large item is used, the foam is not properly deformed when in contact with the small item, and the latter may then move within the internal volume of the box, risking damage.
[0015] On the contrary, if a large object is introduced into the internal volume of a box intended to contain a small object, the package may become unusable due to insufficient space in the internal volume, as the lid cannot then be closed properly so as to completely seal the internal volume of the box. This then results in the object not being truly protected and is visible to anyone transporting the package, which could lead to a risk of the object being stolen.
[0016] Carriers or packaging professionals must therefore have packages of different sizes depending on the size of the objects to be transported.
[0017] According to another known technique, the retaining means are in the form of a plastic envelope inside which the object to be transported is slid, the envelope is then deformed so that its walls come into contact with the object to be transported and hold it in its position. According to a first type, the envelopes can be secured to the bottom of the box and their deformation can be carried out for example by heating so as to shrink the material, generally a plastic material, so that it stiffens on contact with the object.
[0018] A disadvantage of this solution is that the deformation of the envelope, when carried out by heating, cannot be carried out by everyone since this technique involves the use of specific heating equipment.
[0019] In fact, heating means, such as heat guns for example, must be used and may require special training so that only professionals can deform the envelope.
[0020] Furthermore, when the envelope is attached to the bottom of the box, this can present a major disadvantage for the integrity of the box, particularly if it is made of cardboard, as excessive heat can destroy the cardboard by burning it.
[0021] In addition, inserting the object to be transported into the envelope may prove difficult, if not impossible.
[0022] This is particularly true if the object to be transported is inserted into the envelope once the box is shaped, i.e. once the internal volume is defined, the peripheral edge of the box forming a major obstacle to the insertion of the object into the envelope.
[0023] To overcome this, it may be necessary, first, to insert the object into the envelope, then to form the box and finally to deform the envelope.
[0024] This represents a significant handling time which can be detrimental for professionals and also be impossible to achieve for individuals, particularly for deforming the envelope or shaping the box.
[0025] According to a second type, the envelope can also be secured to a tray intended to be housed in the box. In this case, the object is introduced inside the envelope and then, in order to secure and hold the object, the envelope is deformed by folding the edges of the tray, so as to stretch the two walls of the envelope to trap the object. Once this is finished, the folded tray can be inserted into the box and then the movable cover can be closed on the box.
[0026] These restraint methods also have certain disadvantages.
[0027] Indeed, inserting the object into the envelope does not pose a problem, however the deformation of the tray, in particular the folding of its edges, represents a complicated manipulation, even impossible to carry out when the object is bulky and the envelope to be deformed offers significant resistance to deformation. The deformation of the envelope can then become time-consuming and put off professionals who will then make a partial deformation or even offer a larger package generating a higher transport cost for the end consumer.
[0028] Furthermore, this requires the storage of both the box, the lid and the restraint means, which represents a detrimental total footprint and therefore an additional cost which is often passed on to the end customer.
[0029] Finally, another solution described in the patent document published under number FR 3 102 162 describes a package for transporting objects, comprising a box and means for retaining objects, integral with the box and defining a volume for receiving objects. The retaining means have an opening for access to the receiving volume.
[0030] The restraint means are in the form of a bag attached to the bottom, the access opening of which is opposite the bottom.
[0031] This package also includes actuating means configured to change the size of the access opening, from an enlarged configuration, allowing access to the receiving volume, to a narrowed configuration, preventing access to the receiving volume and in which the retaining means envelop the object(s) located in the receiving volume to immobilize them in the box, or vice versa. The actuating means are in the form of a drawstring threaded at least partly through loops of the bag, with stopping means to maintain the opening in its narrowed configuration.
[0032] However, this package has a major drawback.
[0033] Indeed, the flexibility of the bag makes it difficult to use when the object to be transported is bulky and / or heavy and it must be carried with two hands.
[0034] In this case, the user must place the object to find a solution to maintain the opening in its enlarged configuration to be able to insert the object into the receiving volume, with both hands.
[0035] One solution to this problem would be to provide the package with a bag large enough to overhang the box so that the item can be inserted without having to handle the bag.
[0036] However, using a large bag can cause it to get caught outside the box and tear if the user of the package is not careful and pulls on the bag too violently.
[0037] Additionally, a large bag requires a large drawstring, which, when the opening is in its constricted configuration, must be rolled up to be preserved and stored in the package.
[0038] The use of such a package therefore requires a certain amount of care to avoid prematurely damaging the restraint means and the actuation means.
[0039] The invention aims in particular to overcome the drawbacks of the prior art.
[0040] More specifically, the invention aims to propose a package provided with means for retaining objects which is foldable and simpler to use than the solutions of the prior art.
[0041] The invention also aims to provide such a package that is lightweight. The invention further aims to provide such a package that has a small footprint when folded for storage.
[0042] These objectives, as well as others which will appear subsequently, are achieved thanks to the invention which relates to a package for transporting objects, comprising:
[0043] - a cash register;
[0044] - means for retaining objects, integral with the box and defining a volume for receiving objects, the retaining means having an opening for access to the receiving volume;
[0045] - actuating means configured to change the size of the access opening, from an enlarged configuration, allowing access to the receiving volume, to a narrowed configuration, preventing access to the receiving volume and in which the retaining means envelop the object(s) located in the receiving volume to immobilize them in the box, or vice versa, characterized in that the package also comprises return means configured to maintain the access opening in its enlarged configuration, the actuating means acting against the return means in the narrowed configuration of the access opening.
[0046] Thanks to the presence of the return means, the opening can be maintained in its enlarged configuration to facilitate the insertion of objects into the receiving volume or, on the contrary, facilitate the removal of objects from the receiving volume.
[0047] This allows the user to use both hands to handle objects without worrying about the access opening to the receiving volume, which limits the risk of damaging the objects.
[0048] Furthermore, the fact that the actuating means act against the return means makes it possible to guarantee automatic opening of the receiving volume when the actuating means are used to allow the access opening to move from its narrowed configuration to its widened configuration.
[0049] In other words, the passage of the access opening from its widened configuration to its narrowed configuration constrains the return means which then tend to recover a position without constraint, or almost, when the access opening is in its widened configuration.
[0050] According to an advantageous aspect, the actuating means comprise:
[0051] - a cord passing through holes made in the retaining means near the opening, and
[0052] - a tightening member cooperating with the cord to hold it in the form of a loop.
[0053] Such actuation means are simple to implement.
[0054] In fact, a user only has to hold the tightening member with one hand and pull the cord with the other hand to reduce the size of the loop and cause the access opening to move from its expanded configuration to its narrowed configuration.
[0055] The transition of the access opening from its narrowed configuration to its widened configuration is just as simple since the user only has to manipulate the tightening member with one hand and then let the cord pass through the tightening member under the action of the return means which tend to widen the access opening and therefore enlarge the loop.
[0056] The user can use their second hand to hold the cord lightly to prevent it from moving too quickly and becoming dangerous.
[0057] According to another advantageous aspect, the restraining means comprise:
[0058] - a cover secured to a bottom of the box by a first end and of which a second end opposite the first end forms the access opening, and
[0059] - at least three elastically deformable rods integral with the bottom and the cover, the return means being formed by the rods which tend to bend when the access opening is in the narrowed configuration, and tend to recover a straight position when the access opening is in its widened configuration.
[0060] Such restraint means are easy to implement and offer good protection for objects since the cover can cover the entirety of the object(s) received in the receiving volume. In addition, the cover can wrap the objects in order to press them against the bottom of the box and thus immobilize them.
[0061] According to a first advantageous embodiment, the box has a rectangular parallelepiped shape, and the retaining means comprise at least four elastically deformable rods, each rod being located in a corner of the box.
[0062] The presence of the rods in the corners of the box ensures full access to the receiving volume since the cover is pulled towards each of the corners of the box. From then on, the cover follows the contours of the box, thus providing an opening roughly equal to the size of the box.
[0063] According to a variant of the first embodiment, the box has a rectangular parallelepiped shape, and the retaining means comprise at least four elastically deformable rods, each rod being located on an edge of the box.
[0064] Positioning the rods on the edges of the box helps create areas of the cover with little deformation, these areas being located in the corners of the box.
[0065] Through these slightly deformed areas, it is possible to achieve a first level of wedging of the objects in the receiving volume, which further ensures the retention of the objects in the package during transport.
[0066] According to a second advantageous embodiment, the retaining means are in the form of panels each mounted to rotate on a bottom of the box by a first edge and of which a second edge opposite the first edge forms the access opening.
[0067] The use of panels ensures ease of handling of the restraint means.
[0068] Indeed, the panels ensure that the access opening remains in an expanded configuration on each edge of the box, unlike the cover which could relax. According to an advantageous aspect, each panel comprises an elastically deformable frame and a canvas stretched over the frame, the return means being formed by the elastically deformable frame.
[0069] Such panel architecture allows easy use and easy assembly of the restraint means.
[0070] The panels are sufficient in themselves to ensure the passage of the access opening from its narrow position to its wide position.
[0071] According to another advantageous aspect, the canvas of each panel is formed by an elastically deformable fabric.
[0072] The use of an elastically deformable fabric allows the panel to adapt to the shapes of the object in order to increase the retaining power of the panels.
[0073] Furthermore, the elastic fabric allows a pressing force to be applied to the object in order to ensure its immobilization against the bottom of the box.
[0074] According to another advantageous aspect, each panel is made of a non-deformable material.
[0075] The use of a non-deformable material allows the package to be dedicated to a specific use.
[0076] Indeed, the panels can, for example, have a counter-form intended to receive part of an object to be transported, in order to ensure its total immobilization without exerting any force on the said object.
[0077] According to another advantageous aspect, the return means also comprise springs inserted between a bottom of the box and the panels.
[0078] The use of springs ensures that the panels open and therefore allow the access opening to move from its narrow configuration to its wide configuration. This makes the package easier to use.
[0079] In an advantageous case, the return means also comprise at least three elastically deformable rods secured to the bottom.
[0080] The combination of springs or the frame with the rods offers the advantage of a double return in the enlarged configuration of the access opening. Therefore, if the springs or the elastic frame loses its elasticity, the rods ensure the enlarged configuration of the access opening.
[0081] According to another advantageous aspect, the box has a rectangular parallelepiped shape, and the retaining means comprise four panels each extending along one side of the box.
[0082] Thanks to the presence of four panels, and their positioning, it is possible to ensure contact between each of the panels and the object to be transported, and therefore to ensure the immobilization of the object on the bottom of the box.
[0083] Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear more clearly on reading the following description of preferred embodiments of the invention, given as illustrative and non-limiting examples, and the appended drawings among which:

[0089] [Fig. 7] Figure 7 is a schematic representation of one embodiment of the package recall means according to the invention.
[0090] Figure 1 illustrates a package 1 according to the invention.
[0091] Package 1 typically includes a box 2 which can be closed with a lid 3.
[0092] The cover 3 can adopt a position for closing the box 2, as illustrated in FIG. 1, to close an internal volume of the box 2, and an open position for the box 2 allowing access to the interior of the box, in particular for loading or unloading at least one object O.
[0093] The box 2 comprises a bottom 21 and a peripheral rim 22 extending from the bottom 22.
[0094] To ensure the protection of objects O intended to be transported in the package 1, the package 1 comprises means 4 for retaining objects O. The retaining means 4 define a volume for receiving objects O.
[0095] The retaining means 4 have an access opening 41 to the receiving volume.
[0096] Thanks to this access opening 41, objects O can be introduced into the receiving volume or extracted from the receiving volume.
[0097] As explained below, the access opening 41 has a size that can evolve from an enlarged configuration, as illustrated by figures 2, 4 and 6, to a narrowed configuration, as illustrated by figures 3 and 5, or vice versa.
[0098] In the enlarged configuration of the access opening 41, objects O can be introduced or extracted from the package 1.
[0099] On the other hand, in the narrow configuration of the access opening 41, objects O contained in the box 2 of the package 1 are intended to be immobilized by the retaining means 4 to allow their protection during the transport of the package 1 from a first location to a second location.
[0100] By protection, it is understood that by being immobilized, the object(s) O are protected against sudden movements within the internal volume of the box 2 during its handling.
[0101] To change the size of the access opening 41, the package 1 comprises actuation means 5 described below.
[0102] The actuating means 5 comprise, as illustrated in FIGS. 2 to 6, a cord 51 and a clamping member 52 cooperating with the cord 51 to hold it in the form of a loop. The clamping member comprises a body through which the cord 51 passes, the body housing a movable member capable of adopting a locking position in which it locks the cord 51 inside the body, and a release position in which it allows the cord 51 to run freely in the body. The cord 51 is intended to pass through slots 46 made in the retaining means 4, close to the access opening 41.
[0103] Package 1 also includes return means configured to maintain access opening 41 in its expanded configuration.
[0104] According to a first embodiment illustrated by figures 2 and 3, the retaining means comprise:
[0105] - a cover 42 secured to the bottom 21 by a first end 421 and of which a second end 422 opposite the first end 421 forms the access opening 41, and
[0106] - at least 3 elastically deformable rods secured to the bottom 21 and the cover 42.
[0107] According to this first embodiment, the return means are formed by the rods 43 which tend to bend when the access opening 41 is in the narrowed configuration, as illustrated in FIG. 3, and tend to recover a straight position when the access opening 41 is in its widened configuration, as illustrated in FIG. 2.
[0108] According to this first embodiment, the lights 46 are made on the rods 43. More precisely, the lights 46 take the form of rings located at one end of the rods 43, opposite a joining end by which the rods 43 are secured to the bottom 21 of the box 2.
[0109] Thus, by reducing the size of the loop of the actuating means 5, the lumen of each of the rods 43 tends to move closer to the other lumens 46, so as to reduce the size of the access opening 41 which then passes from its widened configuration, as illustrated in Figure 2, to its narrowed configuration, as illustrated in Figure 3.
[0110] This then causes the rods 43 to be pressed against the object(s) O located in the receiving volume, in order to ensure their immobilization.
[0111] The cover 42 may, for example, be made of an elastic material, intended to fit the shapes of the objects O located in the receiving volume. According to the embodiment illustrated by figures 2 and 3, the box 2 has a rectangular parallelepiped shape and the bottom 21 has a rectangular shape.
[0112] In this case, the retaining means 4 comprise at least four elastically deformable rods 43, each rod 43 being located in a corner of the body 2.
[0113] Alternatively, each rod is located on one edge of the box 2.
[0114] According to another embodiment not illustrated in the figures, the retaining means 4 comprise more than four rods 43, of which four rods 43 are located in the corners of the body 2, the other rods 43 being located along the edges of the body 2.
[0115] According to a second embodiment illustrated by figures 4 and 5, the retaining means 4 comprise panels 45.
[0116] According to the second embodiment illustrated by figures 4 and 5, the box 2 has a rectangular parallelepiped shape, and the bottom 21 has a rectangular shape.
[0117] In this case, the panels 45 are four in number and each extends along one side of the body 2.
[0118] The panels 45 are rotatably mounted on the base 21 by a first edge 451 and have a second edge 452, opposite the first edge 451, forming the access opening 41 of the retaining means 4 and having the slots 46 in which the cord 51 of the clamping means 5 is intended to pass.
[0119] Each panel 45 comprises an elastically deformable frame 453, and a canvas 454 stretched over the frame 453.
[0120] In this case, the return means are formed by the frame 453.
[0121] Each canvas 454 is, for example, formed by an elastic fabric stretched over the frame 453. An elastic fabric is considered to be a tightly woven weave, such as, for example, a twill, taffeta or satin, or a wide woven weave, such as, for example, a net. According to a variant of the second embodiment, each panel 45 is made of a non-deformable material.
[0122] In this case, the return means comprise springs 6 interposed between each panel 45 and the bottom 21 of the body 2, as illustrated in figure 7.
[0123] According to a third embodiment illustrated by figure 6, the retaining means 4 are a combination of the first embodiment and the second embodiment.
[0124] For this, the retaining means 4 comprise rods 43 and panels 45.
[0125] According to this third embodiment, the return means are formed by the rods 43 which tend to bend when the access opening 41 is in the narrowed configuration, and tend to recover a straight position when the access opening 41 is in its widened configuration, as illustrated in FIG. 6.
[0126] Alternatively, the return means may comprise, in addition to the rods 43, springs 6 interposed between each panel 45 and the bottom 21 of the body 2, as illustrated in FIG. 7, or be formed by the frame 453 which is then elastically deformable.
[0127] According to this third embodiment, the lights 46 are made on the rods 43 and on the panels 45.
[0128] More precisely, the lights 46 take the form of rings located at one end of the rods 43, opposite a joining end by which the rods 43 are secured to the bottom 21 of the body 2, and of openings made in the panels 45.
[0129] This variant offers the advantage of a double recall in the enlarged configuration of the access opening 41.
[0130] Indeed, the springs 6 and the rods 43 allow, by their elasticity, to cause the enlargement of the access opening 41 to its enlarged configuration. In use, when a user wishes to house an object O in the package 1, he manipulates the actuating means 5 to increase the size of the loop and position the access opening 41 of the retaining means 4 in the enlarged configuration.
[0131] This allows access to the receiving volume to introduce an object O into package 1.
[0132] When the object O is introduced, the user again manipulates the actuating means 5 to reduce the size of the loop of the cord 52.
[0133] This then causes the access opening 41 to move from its expanded configuration to its narrowed configuration.
[0134] It follows that the retaining means 4 come against the object(s) O located in the receiving volume to immobilize them relative to the bottom 21 of the box 2. More particularly, the rods 43, the frames 453 and / or the springs 6 bend under the effect of the reduction in size of the access opening 41, which causes the lights 46 to move closer together. From then on, the cover 42 or the panels 45 come into contact, at least partially, with the object(s) O to immobilize them on the bottom 21.
[0135] In the case of the cover 42, the passage of the access opening 41 to its narrowed configuration causes the object(s) O to be wrapped by the cover 42.
[0136] According to the first embodiment, the object(s) O are kept immobilized on the bottom 21 of the box 2 by means of the rods 43 and, where appropriate, the cover 42. According to the second embodiment, it is the panels 45 which keep the object(s) O immobilized on the bottom 21 of the box 2. Finally, according to the third embodiment, the object(s) O are kept immobilized on the bottom 21 of the box 2 by means of the panels 45 and the rods 43.
[0137] The presence of the clamping member 52 of the actuating means 5 makes it possible to maintain the access opening 41 in the tightened configuration and therefore to keep the object(s) O immobilized on the bottom 21 of the box 2. The user can then close the package 1 by positioning the cover 3 in its closed position.
[0138] Conversely, when a user wishes to extract an object O from the package 1, he opens the cover 3 then manipulates the actuating means 5 to position the access opening 41 in its enlarged configuration from its narrowed configuration. This then causes a release of the retaining means 4 and allows, via the access opening 41 in the enlarged configuration, to extract the object O located in the receiving volume.
[0139] By moving from its narrow configuration to its wide configuration, the access opening 41 allows the retaining means 4 to be relaxed.
[0140] Therefore, the rods 43 tend to recover their upright position, thus causing a release and a widening of the cover 42, according to the first embodiment. According to the second embodiment, the panels 45 tend to recover a substantially vertical position allowing their release relative to the object(s) O and therefore the passage of the access opening 41 from its narrowed configuration to its widened configuration. According to the third embodiment, the passage of the access opening 41 from its narrowed configuration to its widened configuration is caused by the rods 43 which tend to recover their upright position, to cause a release and a widening of the cover 42, and by the panels 45 which tend to recover a substantially vertical position allowing their release relative to the object(s) O.
[0141] Package 1 which has just been described allows manual wedging of the objects O contained in package 1, without significantly increasing the weight of package 1, for the benefit of its ease of handling.
[0142] The restraint means 4 are easy to use and implement, and the package 1 is easily usable.
[0143] Furthermore, the access opening 41 is maintained in an enlarged configuration by the return means, which ensures ease of insertion of the objects O into the receiving volume or, on the contrary, ease of removal of the objects contained therein from the receiving volume. In addition, the mere manipulation of the actuating means 5 proves to be quick and easy for a user and promotes the retention and protection of the objects O in the package 1.
[0144] Finally, thanks to the elasticity of the retaining means, package 1 can be folded and have a small footprint, facilitating its storage when not in use.
