Abstract
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to an improved push-up fitting for a sink, tub or the like.
[0002] Push-up fittings are crucial components in sanitary facilities such as sinks, tubs, or similar fixtures. Their primary function is to drain the draining water in a controlled manner while filtering out solids or contaminants. This is achieved through the use of valves, filter baskets, and other mechanical elements.
[0003] Push-up fittings are typically installed from above into the sink or tub. They are usually designed to be easily inserted from above into the corresponding hole in the sink base. They are often connected to a siphon at the bottom to ensure odor-free drainage.
[0004] Due to the varying thicknesses of sinks, tubs, and similar fixtures, there are many different versions of push-up fittings. These are rarely customizable and must be selected from a variety of different versions to ensure safe and efficient installation in the respective environments.
[0005] Some sinks and tubs are equipped with overflow systems to prevent overflow. In such configurations, water from the overflow flows into the push-up spout, requiring a special design to handle this additional water flow.
[0006] Push-up fittings can be equipped with push-up valves, which allow the water flow to be controlled manually by pressing the valve. Typically, pushing the valve to the drain position opens the outlet, and pushing it again closes it.
[0007] Push-up fittings are typically operated manually by the user, either by operating the valve or plugging the overflow. Some models may also incorporate technological solutions such as sensors or remote controls.
[0008] Due to the tendency of sewer lines to become clogged with hair and other particles, there is a regular need to open push-up fittings to remove these elements. This not only serves a maintenance purpose but also helps maintain smooth drainage and prevent blockages. This is where tool-free access to filter baskets or valves comes into play, enabling easy and efficient cleaning.
[0009] The present invention aims to provide an improved push-up fitting for sinks, tubs or similar devices that enables efficient, versatile and user-friendly drainage, wherein a push-up valve can be inserted into and removed from the push-up fitting without the need for tools.
[0010] This object is achieved by a push-up fitting having the features of claim 1, according to which the push-up fitting is provided for a sink, a tub or the like.
[0011] Advantageous developments of the invention are specified in the dependent claims.
[0012] The push-up fitting preferably has a drain pipe with a central longitudinal axis, the upper axial end of which is designed for attachment to a sink or tub base and the lower axial end of which has an outlet. The drain pipe has a fluid channel between the upper axial end and the outlet. The push-up fitting has a push-up valve, which is designed as an insert for the drain pipe so that it can be inserted into the drain pipe from above. The push-up valve has a spring and locking mechanism that can lock the valve in a closed position and in a drain position. The push-up valve is equipped with a plug that rests on the drain pipe in the closed position to close the push-up fitting, and releases the drain pipe outlet in a drain position. The push-up fitting advantageously has a container, in particular for fragrances. The push-up fitting has a support element for the spring and locking mechanism of the push-up valve, which acts as a counter-bearing for the push-up valve when the spring and locking mechanism of the push-up valve is activated by pressing on the plug of the push-up fitting. The drain pipe has a constriction that supports the support element in the drain pipe so that it is supported during activation.
[0013] In this context, sinks, tubs, and the like are understood to refer to various sanitary containers used for holding liquids or for cleaning purposes in buildings. This includes, among others, washbasins or rinsing tubs in bathrooms and kitchens, bathtubs for bathing, showers for personal cleansing, sinks in kitchens for washing dishes, sit-down bathtubs for comfortable seating while bathing, whirlpools or jacuzzis with water jets for therapeutic effects, and various sinks in public facilities. The term refers to a wide variety of sanitary facilities used in homes, public buildings, and commercial establishments.
[0014] The push-up fitting typically consists of a drainpipe with a central longitudinal axis. The upper axial end of this drainpipe is typically specifically designed to be attached to the bottom of a sink, tub, or similar fixture. Often, a drainpipe head is designed as a collar at this upper end, which fits snugly against the bottom of the sink or tub to ensure a secure and leak-proof attachment.
[0015] The lower axial end of the drainpipe has an outlet through which the collected fluid is usually directed to a subsequent drainpipe. This drainpipe is often connected to a siphon. A siphon is usually a curved piece of pipe in the shape of an "S" or "U" that is filled with water. The basic function of the siphon is to create a water seal. This water seal prevents unpleasant odors and gases from rising from the drainpipe into the room, as the water in the siphon acts as a barrier. At the same time, the siphon allows the unhindered drainage of liquids. When water flows through the drainpipe, the water seal is temporarily released and then restored, thus maintaining the odor barrier.
[0016] The push-up fitting features a push-up valve. As is well known, a push-up valve includes a mechanism that controls the flow of water. This push-up valve is equipped with a spring and detent mechanism. The spring and detent mechanism allows the push-up valve to lock in one of two main positions: the closed position and the drain position.
[0017] In the closed position, the plug of the push-up fitting rests on the drainpipe, sealing the push-up fitting. In this position, the drainpipe outlet is blocked, preventing water from draining away.
[0018] To open the push-up fitting, the push-up valve is typically operated manually. Pressing the valve triggers the spring and locking mechanism of the push-up valve, pushing the plug of the push-up fitting upwards into the drain position. In this drain position, the drain pipe outlet is released, allowing water to drain freely.
[0019] Operation is therefore usually carried out by simply pressing the push-up valve, which offers a convenient and user-friendly way to control the water drainage in the push-up fitting.
[0020] The plug of the push-up set preferably has a diameter of 4 to 8 cm, preferably 6 cm.
[0021] The push-up valve requires a support element for the spring and detent mechanism to ensure a stable and functional design. The support element for the push-up valve plays a crucial role by acting as a support point for the spring and detent mechanism of the push-up valve.
[0022] The support element for the push-up valve is designed to withstand the pressure exerted on the plug when the push-up valve is operated. When pressure is applied to the plug, the spring and locking mechanism of the push-up valve is activated, and the support element, with its constriction in the drain pipe, serves as support. This support ensures that the mechanism functions smoothly and switches precisely between the closed position and the drain position.
[0023] In practice, this means that the support element, along with the drainpipe constriction, acts as a point of resistance when the push-up fitting's plug is pressed. This action triggers the push-up valve's spring and locking mechanism, which then lifts the push-up fitting's plug and reaches the desired position. The support element, along with the drainpipe constriction, thus contributes to ensuring the stability and efficiency of the mechanism when the push-up valve is actuated.
[0024] The container is preferably designed to accommodate a fragrance or disinfectant. The container is preferably used as a carrier for the fragrance or disinfectant, adding a pleasant fragrance or hygienic component to the draining water.
[0025] The fragrance or disinfectant material in the container can be in the form of gel capsules, aroma balls, or other safe and water-soluble carrier materials. When water flows through the container, it comes into at least partial contact with the contents. This activates the fragrance and / or releases the disinfectant, allowing it to mix with the draining water.
[0026] This feature provides an additional olfactory or hygienic dimension for the draining water. It thus creates not only functional but also sensory added value for the push-up set. The dosage of the fragrance or disinfectant can be adjusted according to the user's individual preferences or requirements.
[0027] In an alternative design for the container in the push-up fitting, a filter can also be used to retain and filter out solids and impurities from the draining water. The container then acts as a kind of sieve or filter, catching larger particles, such as hair, dirt, or other solids, before the water continues through the drainage system.
[0028] Specifically, the draining water can be channeled through the container, allowing solid particles to remain in the basket. This function prevents these particles from entering the drainpipe and potentially causing blockages. With this design, the container thus enables effective cleaning of the draining water and helps maintain the functionality and smooth operation of the push-up fitting.
[0029] Regular cleaning or emptying of the tank is necessary to remove solid buildup and ensure optimal filtration performance. This tank function is especially beneficial in sanitary facilities where hair, soap scum, and other particles can frequently enter the sewage system.
[0030] The drain pipe preferably has a length of at least 4 cm, preferably 7 cm, particularly preferably 10 cm.
[0031] The container preferably has an outer diameter of 2.5 to 4 cm, preferably 3.2 cm.
[0032] According to the invention, the push-up valve is designed as an insert for the drainpipe, meaning it can be inserted into the drainpipe from above. This design allows for easy installation and maintenance, as the push-up valve can be inserted directly into the drainpipe from above.
[0033] Additionally, the drainpipe features a constriction specifically designed to support the push-up valve support element. This constriction in the drainpipe serves to support and stabilize the push-up valve support element, especially during the push-up valve actuation process.
[0034] The drain pipe constriction design ensures that the push-up valve support element, which is critical to its function, is adequately supported during the push-up valve's actuation. This is important to ensure smooth operation of the mechanism and reliable locking in various positions, such as the closed position and the drain position.
[0035] In summary, the design of the push-up valve as an insert and the presence of a constriction of the drain pipe in the drain pipe enables easy handling, installation and safe functionality of the push-up fitting.
[0036] Various designs of the constriction in the drain pipe are conceivable to support the support element for the push-up valve and assist in actuating the push-up valve. Here are some possible variants: 1. Tapered web at the lower end: The constriction of the drain pipe could be designed in the form of a tapered web at the lower end of the fluid channel. This taper serves to support the support element for the push-up valve and create a supporting structure. 2. Circumferential tapered edge: A circumferential, tapered edge along the fluid channel of the drain pipe could act as a constriction of the drain pipe. This edge could enclose the support element for the push-up valve and support it during actuation of the push-up valve. 3. Contoured fluid channel: The fluid channel itself could be tapered or have a shape that serves as a constriction of the drain pipe. A conical shape or a specific contour of the fluid channel could support the support element for the push-up valve in the drain pipe. 4.Internal ribs or struts: The drain pipe could incorporate internal ribs or struts along the fluid channel to provide structural support for the push-up valve support element. 5. Combination of different elements: It would also be possible to use a combination of these approaches, for example, a circumferential edge combined with a tapered web at the bottom or internal ribs.
[0037] In the preferred embodiment, the drainpipe is designed in a circular ring shape. This means that it has the shape of a circular ring or an annular structure. This shape is typically cylindrical, with the inner and outer edges of the drainpipe forming a closed ring. Alternatively, other designs of the drainpipe that deviate from the circular ring shape, such as elliptical shapes, are also conceivable.
[0038] Specifically, one could imagine the drainpipe being shaped like a hollow cylinder with a closed ring cross-section. The circular design is characterized by a preferably continuous, closed outer circumference.
[0039] This shape offers certain advantages, such as ease of use, consistent water flow, and good adaptability to various sink and tub bases. The circular design also allows for efficient integration into various sanitary facilities and simplifies the installation and operation of the push-up fitting.
[0040] In the preferred embodiment, the drainpipe is threaded along its outer surface. This means that a helical structure is present along the outer circumference of the drainpipe. This thread design allows for easy and secure attachment of the drainpipe to various sink, tub, or similar bases.
[0041] The thread is preferably a 1 ¼ inch thread.
[0042] Additionally, this preferred embodiment features a fixing element that can be screwed onto the thread from below. The fixing element serves to securely and stably attach the drainpipe to the sink, tub, or similar structure. By screwing on the fixing element, the drainpipe is firmly connected to the corresponding floor.
[0043] The fixing element, which is screwed onto the thread from below, preferably has an outer diameter of 5 to 6 cm, preferably 5.7 cm.
[0044] This combination of a threaded drainpipe and a screw-on fixing element provides a robust fastening method that ensures easy installation and a secure fit. This configuration also facilitates adaptation to different thicknesses of sinks or tub bases, as the fixing element can be flexibly adjusted.
[0045] In the preferred embodiment, the outside of the fluid channel is formed by the inner surface of the drain pipe.
[0046] The drainpipe may have recesses specifically placed in the casing surface. These recesses are designed to enable fluid communication between the fluid channel and, for example, an overflow located outside the drainpipe. The arrangement of the recesses is designed to establish effective communication between the fluid channel and the overflow.
[0047] This configuration enables targeted fluid flow between the fluid channel and the exterior of the drain pipe, particularly with respect to the overflow. This ensures that excess fluid reaching the overflow is efficiently directed into the fluid channel. This design promotes reliable fluid drainage and prevents potential overflow problems.
[0048] In the preferred embodiment, the annular drain pipe and the fluid channel have the following preferred dimensions: The outer diameter of the drain pipe is preferably between 3 and 6 cm, particularly preferably the outer diameter of the drain pipe is 4 cm.
[0049] The inner diameter of the drain pipe is preferably between 2.8 and 5.8 cm, particularly preferably the inner diameter of the drain pipe is 3.7 cm.
[0050] The recesses in the outer surface of the drain pipe can, for example, be between 1 and 3 cm wide; preferably, the recesses in the outer surface of the drain pipe are 1 cm wide.
[0051] The recesses in the outer surface of the drain pipe can, for example, be between 1 and 3 cm high; preferably, the recesses in the outer surface of the drain pipe are 2 cm high.
[0052] The recesses are preferably arranged between 2 and 4 cm downwards from the upper edge of the drain pipe.
[0053] These dimensions are examples and may vary depending on the specific requirements, design preferences, and functional needs of the push-up fitting. They are intended to illustrate the structure and function of the circular drain pipe with fluid channel and recesses in the preferred embodiment.
[0054] In the preferred embodiment of the push-up fitting, the plug of the push-up fitting is designed to be removable without tools, allowing easy access to the container. This means that no special tools are required to open the container. Instead, the fragrance container is opened in a simple and convenient way to ensure quick access to the container for cleaning and / or maintenance purposes.
[0055] One possible design could include opening the container by simply twisting, pulling, or pushing, for example, without the need for additional tools. This makes handling easier for the user and allows for time-saving maintenance of the push-up fitting. The tool-free mechanism contributes to making the application of a fragrance and / or the cleaning process more efficient and improves user comfort.
[0056] In the preferred embodiment, the plug of the push-up fitting is connected to the container via a thread or a locking mechanism. This design allows for a simple and secure connection of the plug of the push-up fitting to the container, ensuring reliable coverage and sealing.
[0057] For example, the plug of the push-up fitting can be connected to the container by a rotating movement using a thread or a locking system. The selected mechanism, whether a thread or a locking mechanism, helps to securely fix the plug of the push-up fitting and establish a stable connection between the push-up valve and the container.
[0058] The tool-free connection of the push-up fitting plug to the container makes it easier for users to handle the push-up fitting and allows easy access to the container for adding a fragrance and / or for cleaning and maintenance purposes.
[0059] In the preferred embodiment, the container is positioned between the plug of the push-up fitting and the spring and detent mechanism of the push-up valve. This arrangement creates a compact structure that allows for efficient use of the available space.
[0060] This placement makes optimal use of the available space. This compact arrangement is particularly advantageous in confined spaces, such as those often found in bathtubs or sinks.
[0061] The clever positioning of the container contributes to space savings while allowing for efficient use of the push-up set. This improves the overall functionality of the push-up set without taking up unnecessary space.
[0062] In the preferred embodiment, the plug of the push-up fitting also functions as the plug of the fragrance container. This means that the plug of the push-up fitting performs the function of both plugging the push-up valve and plugging the fragrance container.
[0063] This design offers the advantage of a space-saving construction, as the plug of the push-up fitting fulfills a dual function. It not only secures the spring and locking mechanism of the push-up valve, but also serves as a cover for the container. This integration minimizes the number of required components and contributes to the creation of a compact push-up fitting.
[0064] The dual function of the plug also facilitates access to the container for adding fragrance and / or for cleaning and maintenance purposes, as the plug can be opened without tools. This promotes user-friendliness and contributes to the efficiency of the push-up fitting.
[0065] In the preferred embodiment, the push-up valve is equipped with an adjustment element. This adjustment element allows for individual adjustment of the distance between the closed position and the drain position. This allows users to adjust the push-up fitting according to their specific requirements or preferences.
[0066] In this design, the adjustment element offers variable position adjustment by positioning the push-up valve between the closed and open positions. Users can adjust the flow rate and / or the degree of opening to optimize the push-up valve operation according to their individual needs.
[0067] This feature allows for flexible adjustment of the push-up fitting to different water flows or usage preferences, thereby achieving user-defined control over the drainage process.
[0068] In a preferred embodiment, the container is designed so that draining fluids are directed through it. This design enables effective filtration and effective collection of solids and / or contaminants in the draining water.
[0069] The tank is preferably designed to allow the draining fluids to pass through it while simultaneously retaining solids or contaminants. This ensures improved water quality and prevents particles or debris from entering the wastewater system. The tank's structure is designed to form an effective barrier to unwanted substances while allowing the unimpeded flow of water.
[0070] The fragrance container function helps to increase the lifespan and efficiency of the push-up fitting by ensuring reliable filtration of solids and contaminants.
[0071] In a preferred embodiment, the container can additionally be equipped with a seal designed to direct draining water at the upper end of the drainpipe into the container. This seal is preferably positioned to ensure an effective seal between the drainpipe and the container.
[0072] The seal allows the draining water to be directed into the tank at the top of the drain pipe before flowing into the drainage channel. This targeted direction of the water into the tank achieves improved filtration, as solids and contaminants are more efficiently retained in the tank. With this design, the water then flows preferentially downstream from the tank into the fluid channel.
[0073] This additional seal helps to optimize the effectiveness of the filtration in the container so that no unwanted particles flow past the container.
[0074] In a preferred embodiment, the push-up fitting comprises a device designed to receive and retain a lumpy, water-soluble substance. This substance may have various properties; for example, it may be an antiseptic, a germicidal agent, an antibacterial and / or fungicidal substance, a deodorant, a fragrance, a perfume, a cleaning agent, or another water-soluble substance, or a mixture of these substances.
[0075] The device is preferably designed to securely absorb and retain the particulate, water-soluble substance while simultaneously allowing targeted release into the runoff water. This design offers the possibility of imparting additional properties to the runoff water, such as antibacterial or aromatic effects, to improve hygiene conditions or the fragrance in the environment.
[0076] The device can, for example, be arranged as a separate container within the push-up fitting and enable targeted release of the lumpy, water-soluble substance through specific openings or channels. This helps enrich the draining liquid and allows it to perform specific additional functions beyond pure filtration.
[0077] In one embodiment, the container has at least one wall that is open along the main axis of extension. This means that there is an open structure along the main axis of extension of the container for fragrances, which enables targeted interaction with the surrounding liquid.
[0078] The open wall can be formed, for example, by recesses, grid structures, or perforated sections. This design allows the draining liquid to flow unhindered through the container and / or device, while simultaneously retaining solids or substances.
[0079] The open wall along the main extension axis promotes efficient filtration and enables the targeted release of the particulate, water-soluble substance into the runoff water. This helps ensure that the desired additional properties of the substance can be effectively utilized without disrupting the normal runoff process.
[0080] The following is a description of exemplary embodiments based on the drawings. They show: Figure 1 a perspective exploded view of a push-up set of a first embodiment in a disassembled state; Figure 2 a side view of the push-up set of the Fig. 1 in a disassembled state; Figure 3 a side view of the push-up set of the Fig. 1 in the assembled but open state; and Figure 4 a side view of the push-up set from Fig. 1 in the assembled but closed state.
[0081] Figure 1 shows a push-up fitting 1 for a sink 5, a tub, or the like. The lower edge of the image shows a drain pipe 2 with a central longitudinal axis, the upper axial end of which is designed for attachment to a sink or tub floor. The upper end of the drain pipe 2 has a head 4, which in this embodiment is designed as a collar designed to fit snugly against the floor of the sink 5 or tub to ensure a secure and tight attachment.
[0082] The push-up fitting 1 has a push-up valve 6 with a spring and locking mechanism that can lock a plug 10 of the push-up fitting 1 in a closed position and in a drain position.
[0083] The plug 10 of the push-up fitting preferably has a seal 11 which, in the closed position, rests on the head 4 of the drain pipe 2 in order to close the push-up fitting 1.
[0084] The push-up valve 6 is designed in a known manner and has a body 17 which is designed to receive an axially acting spring 18 of the push-up valve 6, wherein the axially acting spring 18 acts on a movable part 19 of the push-up valve 6 upwards in the axial direction in order to transfer the plug 10 into the drain position, wherein the push-up valve 6 further has in its body 17 a spring detent mechanism which is designed to hold the plug 10 in the closed position.
[0085] The push-up fitting 1 preferably has a container 8 designed to accommodate, for example, a fragrance or a disinfectant. The container 8 is preferably arranged between the plug 10 and the push-up valve 6 and connects the plug 10 to the push-up valve 6. More preferably, the connection between the push-up valve 6 and the container 8 can be detachable, for example, as a threaded connection. However, a direct connection between the plug 10 and the push-up valve 6 is also conceivable.
[0086] The container 8 preferably has an external thread 9, via which it can be detachably connected to an internal thread 12 of the plug 10 of the push-up fitting 1. The push-up valve 6 is connected at its lower end to a support element 7 for the push-up valve 6, which in this exemplary embodiment is connected to a body 17 of the push-up valve 6 by means of a fastening section 14. Advantageously, the fastening section 14 of the support element 7 is detachably connected to the body 17 of the push-up valve 6, so that the support element 7 is easily replaceable in order to adapt the push-up valve 6 to drain pipes 2 with different dimensions / diameters. More preferably, this connection can be released without tools. In the preferred embodiment, the connection is designed as a thread 16 of the push-up valve 6, which screwably connects the body 17 to a complementary portion of the support element 7.
[0087] The push-up valve 6 and the container 8, if present, naturally have smaller dimensions / diameters than the drain pipe 8, so that the push-up valve 6 according to the invention can be used with different drain pipes by simply (preferably without tools) replacing the support element 7 and / or the plug 10.
[0088] This illustration shows a stop 20 of the push-up valve 6, which limits and / or adjusts the up and down movement of the push-up valve 6. Above this stop, the movable part 19 of the push-up valve 7 is shown, which can slide in a guide groove 21.
[0089] The container 8 preferably has a plurality of slots 13 as openings in order to be able to pass draining fluids through and to release the fragrance or the disinfectant material.
[0090] For secure positioning of the container 8 in the fluid channel of the drain pipe 2, the container 8 in this embodiment has guide wings 15.
[0091] In the side view according to Fig. 2 the push-up set 1 Fig. 1 The push-up valve 6 is positioned above the tubular drain pipe 2. The push-up fitting 1 is designed so that the push-up valve 6 can be inserted into the drain pipe 2 from above. The upper axial end of the drain pipe 2 is specially designed for attachment to the bottom of a sink 5, a tub, or the like. The drain pipe head 4 fits snugly against the upper axial end of the drain pipe 2 to ensure a secure and tight attachment.
[0092] In Fig. 2The thread 22 along the outer surface of the drainpipe 4 is also shown. A fixing element 23 for the drainpipe 4 is screwed onto the thread 22, which, when fully assembled, rests against the bottom of the tub 5. The fixing element 23 serves to securely and stably attach the drainpipe 4 to the sink tub 5. The recesses 24 of the drainpipe 4 are positioned such that they allow a fluid connection from an overflow 25 of the sink tub 5.
[0093] In the lower area of the drain pipe 2, a tapered web is formed as a constriction 3 of the drain pipe 2. This serves as a support for the support element 7 for the push-up valve 6. The constriction 3 can be formed circumferentially or with interruptions on the inner surface of the drain pipe 3.
[0094] The support of the push-up valve 6 on the constriction 3 allows easy tool-free removal and easy tool-free insertion of the push-up valve 6 into the drain pipe 2 and also avoids further operations such as unscrewing or screwing the push-up valve 6 for removal or insertion into the drain pipe 2. This makes cleaning the push-up valve 6 to remove contaminants such as hair, food residue or the like much easier.
[0095] In Fig. 3 , the assembled state of the push-up set 1 of the Figure 1 and 2 , it is clearly visible how the support element for the push-up valve 7 rests on the constriction 3 of the drain pipe 2. The push-up valve 6 is in the drain position, the plug 10 of the push-up fitting 1 is opened accordingly, and the outlet of the drain pipe 2 is exposed. This position allows fluids to drain away.
[0096] The constriction 3 of the drain pipe 2, here designed as a tapered web at the lower end of the drain pipe 2, carries the support element 7 for the push-up valve 6 and ensures stable support when actuating the push-up valve 6 in the direction of the black arrow above the plug 10. The plug 10, which is in the Fig. 3 shown in the drain position, allows unhindered drainage of fluids from the rinsing tub or tub 5.
[0097] In Fig. 4 The closed state of the push-up fitting 1 shown in the previous figures is shown. The push-up valve 6 is in the closed position, whereby the plug 10 of the push-up fitting 1 rests firmly on the head 4 of the drain pipe 2. The seal 11, located on the plug 10 of the push-up fitting 1, ensures a secure seal and closes the push-up fitting 1 to prevent uncontrolled leakage of liquids.
[0098] The support element 7 for the push-up valve 6 continues to rest on the constriction 3 of the drain pipe 2 at the lower end of the drain pipe 2. This configuration ensures stable positioning of the push-up valve 6 and helps to maintain the closed state of the push-up fitting 1.
[0099] The closed position ensures that the push-up fitting 1 is effectively sealed to prevent accidental leakage of liquids. This is especially important when the tub 5 is filled with water and a seal is required to maintain the water level. List of reference symbols
