Description

“CONCEALED-TYPE ADJUSTABLE SUPPORT DEVICE FOR CANTILEVERED SHELVES”DESCRIPTIONTECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to a concealed-type adjustable support device for cantilevered members such as shelves, brackets or the like, on a support structure, for example a wall.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] Support devices for cantilevered shelves, commonly referred to as “shelf brackets”, are devices adapted to support a cantilevered panel on a support structure, such as for example a wall.

[0003] Generally, such devices comprise a fixing base which can be constrained to the support structure and adapted to cooperate with a support element which can be associated with the panel forming the shelf to be supported. Should the support device be of the “concealed” type, that is it is not visible when in use, the support element is usually shaped as a pin, so that it is suitable to be fitted in a housing seat obtained in the thickness of the shelf.

[0004] Typically, to support a shelf there must be provided for at least two support devices positioned so that the bases are arranged at the same height and at a suitable distance so that the respective pins are able to be fitted into the corresponding housing seats, suitably obtained in the thickness of the bracket.

[0005] At times, it happens that the mounting of the shelf to the wall is rather difficult due to the unevenness of the wall or height differences even minimum in the fixing of the bases thereto or even errors in creating the seats for housing the pins.

[0006] Therefore, in order to compensate for any positioning or machining imprecisions, the devices for supporting shelves may be provided with adjusting means adapted to change the position of the pin with respect to the fixing base vertically and / or horizontally and / or in-depth.

[0007] An example of a concealed adjustable support device for shelves is described in document EP2705775. Such device comprises a wall-fixable plate and a support pin provided with an end shank with lateral guide flaps inserted into a corresponding seat of the plate. In the shank there is obtained a threaded through hole through which there is screwed a grub screw which can be driven in rotation through an opening made in thepanel.

[0008] The grub screw allows to adjust the vertical position of the pin with respect to the wall-fixing plate and therefore of the shelf with respect to the wall. However, the capacity of these devices is rather small due to the limited size of the fixing plate.

[0009] Another known concealed-type support device is described in document EP1844682: such device comprise a fixing base adapted to be constrained to the support structure at the desired height, and a support pin adapted to be inserted into a hole extending into the thickness of the panel forming the shelf along an axis parallel to the surface thereof, and adapted to cooperate with the fixing base to support the shelf on the support structure in a cantilevered manner. Furthermore, adjustment means are provided for adjusting the position of the pin with respect to the fixing base and in particular change the inclination thereof. As a matter of fact, advantageously, the inclination of the pin allows to compensate for any assembly or machining clearances.

[0010] In particular, the adjustment means comprise a movable body contained in a hollow body obtained in the fixing base and connected to the pin, a first threaded member adapted to engage a threaded hole obtained in the movable member to translate the movable member along a longitudinal axis and adjust the horizontal position of the pin with respect to the base, and a second threaded member adapted to engage a threaded through cavity defined in the movable member, said second threaded member and said cavity being arranged and configures to rotate the movable member around the longitudinal axis and adjust the inclination of the pin with respect to the base.

[0011] Although such device operates satisfactorily, it is formed of a large number of component elements having rather large overall dimensions, and therefore it is not suitable for wall-supporting shelves with small thickness. Furthermore, considering the rather significant overall dimensions, a support device thus made allows a limited adjustment ranges.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0012] Therefore, the main task of the subject matter of the present invention is therefore to overcome the drawbacks of the prior art outlined above, by proposing a concealed-type support device for cantilevered shelves that allows to adjust the position and the inclination of the support pin with respect to the fixing base providing wide adjustment ranges and being capable of compensating for any assembly or machining clearances more effectively with respect to the prior art support devices.

[0013] Within the scope of the task outlined above, an object of the present invention is to provide a concealed-type support device for cantilevered shelves that is formed of asmall number of component elements, therefore being compact, so that it is suitable to be used for the wall-support of shelves with low thickness.

[0014] Another object of the present invention to provide a concealed-type support device for cantilevered shelves that is easy to assemble.

[0015] A further object is to provide a concealed-type support device for shelves that is practical and intuitive to use, allowing to fix the shelf to the support structure by using tools that are used commonly and readily available, in any case in a simple and immediate manner, even by unskilled users.

[0016] Last but not least, the object of the present invention is to provide a concealed-type support device for cantilevered shelves that attains the task and objects mentioned above by using standard and known installations, machines and equipment.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES

[0017] The task and the objects outlined above, as well as others which will be more apparent hereinafter, are achieved through concealed-type support device for cantilevered shelves according to claim 1. The subsequent claims define further characteristics of a support device according to the present invention which will be better illustrated in the description of a particular, but not exclusive, embodiment and illustrated by way of non-limiting example in the attached drawings, wherein:- figure 1 shows, with a perspective view, a device for supporting a shelf according to the present invention when assembled;- figure 2 shows, with an exploded view, a device for supporting a shelf according to the present invention;- figure 3 shows, with a cross-sectional view, the support device according to figure 1 ;- figures 4A, 4B and 4C show, with respective plan views, a support device according to the present invention in which the relative position of the support pin and of the fixing base is varied along the horizontal plane;- figures 5A to 5D show, with cross-sectional views, the method for mounting a cantilevered shelf M on a wall P by using a support device 1 according to the invention.DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0018] With reference to the figures mentioned above, there is shown a support device 1 according to the present invention, adapted to support a shelf M, essentially formed by a panel defining a flat support surface M1 , on a support structure P, such as a wall, so that it protrudes from the latter in a cantilevered manner.

[0019] Obviously, in order to support a shelf M on a wall P it is preferable to provide for at least one pair of support devices 1 according to the present invention, to be arranged side by side, at whichever height one desires to mount the shelf M, and suitably spaced apart.

[0020] Expressions such as “above”, “below”, “upper”, “lower”, “high”, “low”, “horizontal”, “vertical” or the like will be used in the description below; the person skilled in the art will have no difficulty understanding that these expressions relate to the orientation of the support device 1 in the normal operative configuration thereof, that is in use, as shown in the attached figures.

[0021] As shown in the figures 1 , 2 and 3, the support device 1 according to the present invention comprises a fixing base 2, which can be constrained to the surface of the wall P, and a support pin 3 comprising an elongated body 31 extending along an extension axis E-E and adapted to be fitted in a housing seat S made in the thickness of the shelf M and provided with a coupling end portion 32 adapted to be engaged in said fixing base 2 to support the cantilevered shelf M on said wall P.

[0022] Said fixing base 2 comprises a hollow body 20 defined by at least a bottom wall 21 , adapted to be arranged abutting against said support structure P and an abutment wall 22 projecting perpendicularly from said bottom wall 21 .

[0023] Preferably, said fixing base 2 further comprises a containment wall 23, arranged parallel to and facing said abutment wall 22, adapted to close - at the upper part - said hollow body 20, the latter having a front access opening 20A through which said coupling end portion 32 is received in the hollow body 20 and engaged therein through engaging means 4 in order to constrain said pin 3 to the mounting base 2. A pair of side walls 27 is possibly provided for to laterally delimit the cavity of the hollow body 20.

[0024] Advantageously, the hollow body 20 is also adapted to be received in the housing seat S obtained in the thickness of the shelf M when the latter is fixed on said wall P, so that said support device 1 is “concealed”, that is not visible, when in use.

[0025] A first manoeuvring opening 24, preferably obtained at the containment wall 23 and advantageously arranged in proximity of said bottom wall 21 , is adapted to allow the insertion of said engaging means 4 in the hollow body 20. Preferably, said first manoeuvring opening 24 is slot-shaped, with main extension in a direction essentially parallel to the bottom wall 21 .

[0026] This fixing base 2 further comprises a pair of mounting wings 26, which essentially extend coplanar to said bottom wall 21 departing from the opposite sides of said hollow body 20, on each of which there is formed a mounting opening 26A adapted to allow the fixing of the base 2 on the wall P by means of appropriate fixing means, such as screws(not shown).

[0027] Advantageously, said mounting openings 26A are shaped as slots having a main extension in a vertical direction, so as to allow the adjustment of the position of the fixing base 2 with respect to the wall along a vertical axis.

[0028] The elongated body 31 of the support pin 3 is preferably cylindrical-shaped, while the coupling end portion 32, which extends essentially coaxially at one end thereof, has a cross-section whose size is advantageously smaller than that of the latter and it preferably has a flat lateral surface 33 whereon there is obtained at least an engaging hole 34 which is advantageously a through hole and arranged in proximity of the end tip 32A of the coupling end portion 32.

[0029] This coupling end portion 32 is adapted to be received and engaged in the hollow body 20 of said fixing base 2, by inserting it advantageously through said front opening 20A so that the end tip 32A thereof reaches at the bottom wall 21 of the hollow body 20, being locked therein by means of engaging means 4.

[0030] Said engaging means 4 advantageously comprise an engaging member 40, preferably essentially cylindrical, extending along an extension axis Y-Y and configured to engage said engaging hole 34 provided for on the coupling end portion 32 of the pin 3 when the latter is received in the cavity defined by the hollow body 20 of the fixing base 2, by inserting it through said first manoeuvring opening 24, which is advantageously slotshaped so as to allow to adjust the position of the pin 3 with respect to the fixing base 2 along a direction essentially parallel to the bottom wall 21 , and horizontal in use, as indicated by the arrow F1 in figure 4B.

[0031] Advantageously, the axial extension of said engaging member 40 is greater than the depth of the engaging hole 34 so that, once inserted into the engaging hole 34, it projects at least partially also in said first manoeuvring opening 24, therefore preventing the backward removal of the pin 3 with respect to the fixing base 2 but allowing the free oscillation of the pin 3 around the axis Y-Y defined by said engaging member 40, advantageously vertical in use, so as to allow the adjustment of the inclination of the latter with respect to the fixing base 2 along a perpendicular plane with respect to the bottom wall 21 , and substantially horizontal in use, as indicated by the arrow F2 in figure 4B.

[0032] Preferably, said engaging member 40 is a tubular element advantageously made of harmonic steel and provided with a lateral slot 41 which develops for the entire axial extension thereof so as to allow a radial elastic deformation thereof. In particular, preferably, said engaging means 4 are formed by an elastic pin configured to elastically engage said engaging hole 34.

[0033] The amplitude of such adjustments is defined by the gap of said front opening 20A, whose lateral edges, interfering with the coupling portion 32 of the pin 3, act as stop abutments, as shown in figures 4A and 4C.

[0034] According to an advantageous characteristic of the present invention, said device 1 further comprises adjusting means 5 adapted to adjust the inclination of the support pin 3 with respect to the fixing base 2 along a perpendicular plane with respect to the bottom wall 21 , and substantially vertical in use.

[0035] Said adjusting means 5 comprise a threaded member 50, such as a grub screw, extending along an adjusting axis Z-Z in use essentially perpendicular to the extension axis E-E of the pin 3 and adapted to cooperate with latter to adjust the distance between the coupling portion 32 and the abutment wall 22 and therefore the inclination of said support pin 3 with respect to said fixing base 2 along a vertical plane.

[0036] Said grub screw 50 is advantageously formed by an externally threaded stem provided, at a first end 51 , with an engagement seat suitably shaped to engage with an appropriate first tool, such as for example a first Allen key, which allows the rotational drive thereof.

[0037] In the embodiment shown in the figures, said adjusting means 5 further comprise an adjusting hole 35, that is an internally threaded through hole, provided for on the coupling portion 32 of said support pin 3, configured to be engaged by said grub screw 50 when said coupling portion 32 is received in the hollow body 20, so that, in use, a second end 52 of the grub screw 50, opposite to said first end 51 , rests on said abutment wall 22.

[0038] Advantageously, a second manoeuvring opening 25 is obtained on said hollow body 20, preferably at said containment wall 23, so as to allow to position and screw the grub screw 50 in the adjusting hole 35.

[0039] Said adjusting hole 35 is advantageously arranged in a region of the coupling portion 32 distal from the end tip 32A thereof, being preferably located between the engaging hole 34 and the elongated body 31 .

[0040] Preferably, said engaging hole 34 and said adjusting hole 35 lie aligned in the extension direction E-E of the pin 3 and they both extend parallel along respective transversal axes with respect to said extension axis E-E.

[0041] As a result, said second manoeuvring opening 25 is advantageously arranged distal to said bottom wall 21 with respect to said first manoeuvring opening 24, said manoeuvring openings 24, 25, being preferably aligned along a transversal axis with respect to said bottom wall 21 and advantageously orthogonal thereto.

[0042] Preferably, said second manoeuvring opening 25 is circular-shaped and it is advantageously sized so as to allow the rotational drive of the grub screw 50 for any horizontal position allowed taken by the pin 3 with respect to the base 2, and defined by the positioning of the engaging means 4, as shown in figures 4A - 4C.

[0043] Given that the coupling portion 32 is pivotably mountable to the fixing base 2 in proximity of the end tip 32A through engaging means 4, by suitably driving in rotation said grub screw 50 advantageously allows to adjust the distance between the region of the coupling portion 32 in which there is obtained the adjusting hole 35 and said abutment wall 22, and therefore, exploiting the lever effect, the vertical inclination of the pin 3 with respect to the base 2.

[0044] The farther the region of the coupling portion 32 in which the adjusting hole 35 is from the bottom wall 21 or the hollow body 20, the more effective the lever effect will be.

[0045] Clearly, in order to allow the adjustment of the vertical inclination of the pin 3, the engagement between said engaging member 40 and said first manoeuvring opening 24 must allow a minimum clearance along a direction essentially orthogonal to the bottom wall 21 .

[0046] The amplitude of the adjustment of the vertical inclination of the pin 3 is defined by the gap of said front opening 20A, whose upper and lower edges, by interfering with the coupling portion 32 of the pin 3, act as stop abutments.

[0047] Advantageously, said support device 1 further comprises locking means 6 essentially formed by a locking screw 60 configured to engage said second manoeuvring opening 25, to this end advantageously internally threaded, and abut against the flat surface 33 of the coupling portion 32 so as to tightly maintain the position achieved by the pin 3.

[0048] Said locking screw 60 is preferably axially crossed through by a through opening 61 configured to allow access to the first end 51 of the grub screw 50 through the second manoeuvring opening 25.

[0049] Said through opening 61 opens at one end of the screw 60 in a top engagement seat 62 shaped to be engaged by a special second tool, such as second Allen key, advantageously having a larger cross-section with respect to the first tool adapted to actuate the grub screw 50.

[0050] Advantageously, said support device 1 is provided pre-assembled, with the support pin 3 already constrained to the fixing base 2, as shown with reference to figures 1 and 3; in particular, for the assembly thereof, the coupling end portion 32 of the support pin 3 is inserted into the cavity defined by the hollow body 20, with the end tip 32A abutting againstthe bottom wall 21 , and retained therein through engaging means 4, that is with the engaging member 40 inserted through the first manoeuvring opening 24 made in the containment wall 23 along the axis Y-Y to engage the engaging hole 34 obtained in proximity of the end tip 32A of the coupling portion 32, further protruding into the first manoeuvring opening 24 to prevent the removal with a backward movement of the pin 3.

[0051] Furthermore, also the adjusting means 5 and the locking means 6 are already positioned in the device 1 : the grub screw 50 is screwed in the corresponding adjusting hole 35 obtained in the respective region of the coupling portion 32 and the locking screw 60 is received in the second manoeuvring opening 25 and screwed therein at the grub screw 50.

[0052] The method for obtaining the mounting of a shelf M on a wall P through a support device 1 according to the invention is described below with reference to figures 5A - 5D.

[0053] Firstly, the device 1 is constrained to the wall P at the desired mounting height, inserting appropriate fixing screws in the respective mounting openings 26A provided for on the mounting wings 26 arranged on the sides of the hollow body 20 of the base 2, advantageously slotted along a vertical direction to allow a certain degree of adjustment of the mounting position vertically.

[0054] At this point, the horizontal position of the pin 3 can be adjusted with respect to the base 2, to correct any positioning imprecisions of the housing seat S obtained in the thickness of the shelf M.

[0055] Once the most appropriate relative position of the pin 3 with respect to the base 2 has been established, the inclination of the pin 3 with respect to the base 2 can be adjusted along a horizontal plane by oscillating the pin around the axis Y-Y defined by the engaging member 40.

[0056] At this point, the elongated body 31 of the pin 3, which protrudes cantilevered from the fixing base 2, is at least partially inserted into the respective coupling seat S obtained in the shelf M, so that the latter is temporarily supported by the same, but leaving at least the hollow body 20 of the fixing base 2 uncovered so as to adjust the inclination of the pin 3 along a vertical plane (figure 5A).

[0057] To this end, the locking screw 60 is appropriately moved by accessing through said second manoeuvring opening 25 with said second tool to the respective top engagement seat 62, so as to move it away from the flat surface 33 of the coupling portion 32 (figure 5B).

[0058] Subsequently, said grub screw 50 is driven in rotation by engaging the engagement seat provided for on the first end 51 thereof with a first tool, by inserting the latter throughthe second manoeuvring opening 25 and through then through opening 61 of the locking screw 60, therefore adjusting the distance between the region of the coupling portion 32 in which there is obtained the adjusting hole 35 and the abutment wall 22 of the hollow body 20 on which the second end 52 of the grub screw 50 rests, and therefore, exploiting the lever effect, the inclination of the pin 3 with respect to the base 2 along a vertical plane, as shown by the arrow F3 of figure 5C.

[0059] Upon reaching the desired inclination, the locking screw 60 is once again screwed in the second manoeuvring opening 25 to tightly lock the device, therefore locking the relative position between the pin 3 and the fixing base 2, and the shelf M is moved so that also the hollow body 20 of the fixing base 2 is received in the housing seat S, therefore bringing the edge of the shelf M in contact with the wall P and therefore completing the mounting thereof on the wall P in a cantilevered manner (figure 5D).

[0060] According to an alternative embodiment not shown in the figures, said adjusting hole 35 is instead a through hole obtained on said abutment wall 22, said grub screw 50 being adapted to engage said adjusting hole 35 and rest on the coupling portion 32 of the support pin 3 to adjust, with lever effect, the distance between the latter and the abutment wall 22 and therefore the inclination of said support pin 3 with respect to said fixing base 2 along a vertical plane. This embodiment has the advantage of allowing to adjust the vertical inclination of the support pin 3 with the shelf M already fully mounted, operating through a hole appropriately made in the lower surface of the shelf.

[0061] In conclusion, in the light of the above it is clear that the present invention allows to achieve the task and purposes proposed initially. As a matter of fact, there has been designed a support device for a cantilevered shelf on a support structure, such as a wall, which allows to adjust with particular effectiveness the inclination of the support pin with respect to the fixing base, allowing wide adjusting ranges.

[0062] As a matter of fact, a support device 1 according to the present invention comprises adjusting means 5 comprising a threaded member positioned, in use, so as to extend along an adjusting axis 7-7 that is essentially perpendicular to the extension axis E-E of the support pin 3 and adapted to cooperate with the coupling end portion 32 of the pin to adjust, through a lever effect, the distance between said coupling portion 32 and said abutment wall 22 and therefore the inclination of said fixing base 3 with respect to said fixing base 2 along a vertical plane.

[0063] In this manner, advantageously, the support device according to the present invention is capable of compensating for the assembly or machining clearances, for example overcoming any unevenness present on the wall P or height differences evenminimum in the fixing of the fixing base 2 thereto or even errors in creating the seats for housing the pin 3.

[0064] Advantageously, the support device according to the present invention is rather compact, given that it can be used for shelves with low thickness.

[0065] Furthermore, it is clear that a concealed support device for shelves according to the present invention is formed of a small number of component elements, therefore being cost-effective and easy to assemble.

[0066] Lastly, a support device according to the present invention is practical and intuitive to use, allowing to mount a shelf to the support structure by using tools that are used commonly and readily available, in any case in a simple and immediate manner, even by unskilled users.

[0067] Obviously, the invention is susceptible of numerous modifications or variants without departing from the scope of protection of the present invention, as defined by any one of the attached claims.

[0068] Furthermore, the materials used to implement the present invention, as well as the shapes and dimensions of the individual components, may be the most appropriate depending on the specific requirements.
