[0002] Priority Claim

[0003] This application claims priority to and the benefit of French Application No. 2307590, which was filed on July 14, 2023, the entire contents of which is incorporated herein by reference.

[0004] Technical field of the invention

[0005] The present invention generally relates to nail fastener driving tools. More specifically, although not exclusively, the present invention relates to a nail guide assembly for extending a nail fastener driving tool in order to attach an insulation board to a substrate.

[0006] Technical background

[0007] Nail fastener driving tools are known and normally comprise a nail guide to receive a nail and guide a striker on the nail fastener driving tool to drive the nail into a substrate when the nail fastener driving tool is actuated.

[0008] FR2993810A1 describes a nail fastener driving tool with a nail guide that is extended to accommodate an accessory for attaching an insulation board to a carrier material with a nail received in the end of the nail guide.

[0009] Summary of the invention

[0010] The present invention aims to provide a more adaptable solution.

[0011] The invention relates to a nail guide assembly that can be removably mounted on a nail fastener driving tool to extend a nail fastener driving tool in order to attach an insulation board to a substrate, the assembly comprising a slap hammer for transmitting a driving force to a nail.

[0012] The invention therefore makes it possible to convert the nail fastener driving tool to a conventional nail fastener driving tool and to an elongated nail fastener driving tool for fastening insulation boards.

[0013] The assembly can comprise a tubular nail guide. The slap hammer can be inside the nail guide, for example to transmit a driving force to a nail received in the nail guide.

[0014] The nail guide can be mounted, for example removably, on a nail fastener driving tool. The nail guide can be mounted on the nail fastener driving tool so that the slap hammer is aligned with a striker on the nail fastener driving tool, thereby enabling the striker to drive the slap hammer to drive the nail into a substrate when the nail fastener driving tool is actuated.

[0015] The invention also relates to a nail guide assembly for extending a nail fastener driving tool in order to attach an insulation board to a substrate, the assembly comprising a tubular nail guide and a slap hammer inside the nail guide for transmitting a driving force to a nail received in the nail guide, in which the nail guide can be removably mounted on a nail fastener driving tool so that the slap hammer is aligned with a striker on the nail fastener driving tool, thereby enabling the striker to drive the slap hammer to drive the nail into a substrate when the nail fastener driving tool is actuated.

[0016] The slap hammer can be shorter than the nail guide. The assembly can comprise an elastic means, for example to return the slap hammer to a retracted position. A first end of the slap hammer can be spaced apart from a mounting end of the nail guide in the retracted position, for example to accommodate the striker on the nail fastener driving tool inside the mounting end of the nail guide.

[0017] More specifically, the slap hammer can be shorter than the nail guide, the assembly comprising an elastic means for returning the slap hammer to a retracted position in which a first end of the slap hammer is spaced apart from a mounting end of the nail guide to accommodate the striker on the nail fastener driving tool inside the mounting end of the nail guide.

[0018] The slap hammer can be moved between the retracted position or a retracted position and an extended position. The slap hammer can be in the retracted position before the nail fastener driving tool is actuated. The slap hammer can move to the extended position when or after the nail fastener driving tool is actuated.

[0019] The slap hammer can comprise a rod. The rod can comprise or include a first end, or the first end, for example for cooperating with the striker on the nail fastener driving tool. The rod can comprise or include a second end, for example for cooperating with the head of a nail to be driven. The nail guide can comprise a second part. The second part can have a second diameter, for example to accommodate the slap hammer stop. The nail guide can comprise a third part. The third part can have a third diameter, for example to accommodate the second end of the slap hammer rod and / or a nail to be driven. The third diameter can correspond substantially to the second diameter.

[0021] More specifically, the nail guide can comprise a first part that has a first diameter to accommodate the first end of the slap hammer rod and the striker on the nail fastener driving tool, a second part that has a second diameter to accommodate the slap hammer stop and a third part that has a third diameter substantially corresponding to the second diameter to accommodate the second end of the slap hammer rod and a nail to be driven.

[0022] The first part can be connected to the second part, for example by a screw thread or by press-fitting. Alternatively, the first part can be incorporated into or integrally molded with the second part. The third part can be connected to the second part, for example by a screw thread or by press-fitting. Alternatively, the third part can be incorporated into or integrally molded with the second part.

[0023] The diameter of the stop on the slap hammer can be greater than that of the rod. The second part of the nail guide can comprise one or more openings, for example to allow air to escape and be drawn in as the slap hammer moves between retracted and extended positions.

[0024] More specifically, the diameter of the stop on the slap hammer can be greater than that of the rod, the second part of the nail guide comprising one or more openings to allow air to escape and be drawn in as the hammer moves between the retracted and extended positions.

[0025] The invention also relates to a nail fastener driving tool assembly comprising a nail fastener driving tool and a nail guide assembly described above.

[0026] The nail fastener driving tool assembly can comprise a second nail guide, which can be tubular and / or which can be removably mounted on the nail fastener driving tool. The second nail guide can be shorter than the nail guide of the nail guide assembly.

[0027] The invention also relates to a nail fastener driving tool assembly comprising a nail fastener driving tool, a nail guide assembly described above and a second tubular nail guide which can be removably mounted on the nail fastener driving tool, the second nail guide being shorter than the nail guide of the nail guide assembly. [0042] Detailed description of the invention

[0043] Referring now to Figures 1 to 5, a nail fastener driving tool assembly 10 can be seen comprising a nail guide assembly 1 and a nail fastener driving tool 2 with a striker 20 and a short nail guide 21. The short nail guide 21 is removably mounted on the nail fastener driving tool 2 and the nail guide assembly 1 can also be removably mounted on the nail fastener driving tool 2 in order to extend it to attach an insulation board to a substrate.

[0044] The nail guide assembly 1 comprises a tubular nail guide 3, which is elongated relative to the short nail guide 21 , and a slap hammer 4 inside the elongated nail guide 3 for transmitting a driving force to a nail received in the elongated nail guide 3. The elongated nail guide 3 can be removably mounted on the nail fastener driving tool 2, so that the slap hammer 4 is aligned with the striker 20 on the nail fastener driving tool 2. This enables the striker 20 to drive the slap hammer 4 to drive the nail into a substrate when the nail fastener driving tool 2 is actuated.

[0045] The slap hammer 4 is shorter than the nail guide 1 , and comprises a rod 40 that includes a first end 41 , a second end 42 and a stop 43 between the first end 41 and the second end 42. The first end 41 cooperates with the striker 20 on the nail fastener driving tool 2 to receive a driving force from the striker. The second end 42 cooperates with the head of a nail to be driven to transmit the driving force to the nail. The diameter of the slap hammer 4 stop 43 is greater than that of the rod 40, and it cooperates with the elastic means 5 to return the slap hammer 4 to a retracted position. When the slap hammer 4 is in the retracted position, the first end 41 of the slap hammer 4 is spaced apart from a mounting end 30 of the nail guide 3. When the nail guide 3 is mounted on the nail fastener driving tool 2, an end part of the striker 20 is received in the mounting end 30 of the nail guide 3.

[0046] The nail guide 3, whose parts are illustrated more clearly in Figure 6, comprises a first part 31 , a second part 32 and a third part 33. The first part 31 has a first diameter to accommodate the first end 41 of the slap hammer 4 rod 40 and the striker 20 on the nail fastener driving tool 2. The first part 31 of the nail guide 3 comprises a threaded end 31a with outer threads that cooperate with inner threads in an end part 32a of the second part 32.

[0047] The second part 32 of the nail guide 3 has a second diameter to accommodate the slap hammer 4 stop 43, and comprises three elongated openings 34, evenly spaced around its edge, that extend through its thickness. One end 33a of the third part 33 of the nail guide 3 is press-fitted into the opposite end 32b of the second part 32 at its threaded end 32a.

[0048] The third part 33 has a third diameter to accommodate the second end 42 of the slap hammer 4 rod 40 and a nail to be driven. The first diameter corresponds substantially to the third diameter, while the second diameter is greater than both the first and third diameters. The third part 33 has an outside diameter configured to be received inside an accessory A to attach an insulation board to a substrate.

[0049] As the enlarged slap hammer 4 stop 43 moves along the second part 32 of the nail guide 3 between the retracted and extended positions, air can escape and be drawn in through the elongated openings 34. This keeps the air inside the second part 32 from depressurizing or compressing as the enlarged stop 43 moves along it.

[0050] The first part 31 of the nail guide 3 also comprises a notch 35 on its lower surface, near its mounting end 30. Likewise, the short nail guide 21 also comprises a notch 22 at a similar location relative to its mounting end 22a. The nail magazine 7 comprises a clip (not shown) that removably engages in the notch 22 to keep the short nail guide 21 inside the nail fastener driving tool 2. The nail magazine 7 also comprises a hook (not illustrated) that engages in a cavity 26 in the nail fastener driving tool 2. The combined engagement between the clip (not illustrated) and the notch 22 and between the hook (not illustrated) and the cavity 26 keeps both the magazine 7 and the short nail guide 21 on the nail fastener driving tool 2. The nail fastener driving tool assembly 10 also comprises a holder 6 for attaching each nail guide 3, 21 to the nail fastener driving tool 2 for single-shot operation, in which a single nail is loaded into the end of the nail guide 3, 21. As with the nail magazine 7, the holder 6 comprises a clip 60 and a hook 61.

[0051] The clip 60 engages in the notch 22, 35 and the hook 61 engages in the cavity 26 to keep the nail guide 21 , 3 on the nail fastener driving tool 2.

[0052] The nail fastener driving tool 2 comprises a release lever 27 for releasing the hook 61 from the cavity 26, thereby enabling the holder 6 or the nail magazine 7 to be removed from the nail fastener driving tool 2. The nail fastener driving tool assembly 10 can thus be used for multi-shot applications by mounting the short nail guide 21 with the nail magazine 7, or for single-shot applications by mounting the short nail guide 21 or the nail guide assembly 1 using the holder 6.

[0053] Throughout the description, the words “comprise” and “contain” and variations thereof mean “including but not limited to”, and are not intended for (and do not exclude) other whole or partial parts, additives or components. Throughout the description, the singular includes the plural, unless the context requires otherwise. In particular, when the indefinite article is used, the specification should be understood to include the plural as well as the singular, unless the context requires otherwise.

[0054] Any features, integers, characteristics, compounds or groups described in connection with a particular aspect, embodiment or example of the invention are to be understood as being applicable to any other aspect, embodiment or example described herein, unless inconsistent therewith.
