Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a mounting kit for producing a wall niche.

[0002] These types of installation kits are used particularly in drywall construction to create a wall niche that can then be used, for example, as a shower shelf or similar. A significant advantage of such kits is that creating the wall niche on-site takes very little time. Furthermore, if the container is watertight, it can be easily integrated into a wall-side waterproofing system, such as those installed in damp rooms. Examples of such installation kits are described, for instance, in German patent applications DE 20 2018 001 321 U1 and EP 3 587 682 B1.

[0003] Based on this state of the art, it is an object of the present invention to create an alternative installation kit of the type mentioned above, which can be easily installed and, in particular, can be visually varied during installation.

[0004] To solve this problem, the present invention provides a mounting kit for creating a wall niche, comprising a watertight container having a rear wall and a perimeter wall, which has an access opening at its front, and a frame enclosing the perimeter wall of the container, which is designed as a separate component and is designed to be slid onto the container from the front, wherein the frame has a side wall area which, in the state of the frame being slid onto the container, encloses the outer surface of the perimeter wall of the container and at least partially abuts the outer surface of the perimeter wall, and a front wall area which extends outwards in a flange-like manner with respect to the side wall area and preferably forms an angle of 90° with the side wall area, wherein a transition area between the side wall area and the front wall area is shaped such thatthat, when the frame is slid onto the container, it forms a front-accessible, at least substantially circumferential, joint space for receiving a sealing adhesive. Thanks to the fact that the container and the frame are separate components, the frame, once slid onto the container, can be moved freely along the container's side walls and positioned accordingly. This allows for variations in the visual appearance. For example, the outer surface of the frame's front wall can be flush with the front edge of the container's perimeter wall. It is also possible toto allow the front edge of the container's perimeter wall to project beyond the outer surface of the frame's front wall area. However, due to the two-part design of the container and frame, a gap inevitably remains between the components. This gap should be as small as possible to ensure proper relative alignment between the container and frame. At the same time, the gap should be sufficiently large to allow for proper sealing with a waterproof adhesive, such as silicone sealant, in applications requiring a watertight seal, for example, when the installation kit is used to create a niche within a shower. To resolve these conflicting requirements regarding the gap width, the invention provides a transition area between the side wall area and the front wall area of the frame, which is designed as follows:that it forms at least a substantially circumferential joint space for receiving mounting adhesive. In this way, a sufficiently large joint is created despite the side wall area of the frame being in contact with the perimeter wall of the container when mounted.

[0005] According to a first embodiment of the present invention, the side wall area has a single circumferential side wall, which results in a simple design and simple manufacturing, particularly in the case of a welded construction.

[0006] Alternatively, the side wall area has several widely spaced side wall sections. This option is suitable if the frame is bent from a sheet of metal.

[0007] According to one embodiment of the installation set according to the invention, the frame has several corners and is square or rectangular in shape, wherein the side wall area comprises a number of side wall area sections corresponding to the number of corners and the transition area comprises a number of transition area sections corresponding to the number of side wall area sections.

[0008] The side wall sections of the frame are preferably trapezoidal in shape and taper towards the rear. This design offers advantages in terms of manufacturing technology.

[0009] The front wall area can have a single surrounding front wall or several front wall sections arranged around the perimeter.

[0010] The container is advantageously made of metal or plastic. In the case of metal, the back and side walls can be soldered or welded together. In the case of plastic, thermally formed or adhesive bonds can be used. Alternatively, the container can also be manufactured in one piece using deep drawing or similar processes.

[0011] The visible surface of the container may be coated, for example in the form of a powder coating, a paint or the like.

[0012] Preferably, the joint space has a width of 3 to 5 mm at at least one point and / or a depth of 3 to 5 mm at one point.

[0013] According to one embodiment of the present invention, the frame is made of sheet metal, in particular bent from a single sheet metal blank.

[0014] Mechanical fasteners are advantageously provided for attaching the frame to the container. These fasteners allow the frame to be fixed in the desired position on the container.

[0015] Preferably, the side wall area is provided with at least one slot extending in the sliding direction, and the circumferential wall of the container is provided with an outwardly projecting threaded stud that can be inserted into the slot, with a nut matching the threaded stud and optionally a washer being provided. Advantageously, several pairs of slots and associated threaded studs are provided, which are particularly arranged opposite each other in pairs to enable the most symmetrical possible fixing of the frame to the container.

[0016] According to one embodiment of the present invention, a sealing collar is provided which is designed to be glued to the front outer surface of the front wall area of the frame and is dimensioned such that it projects outwards beyond the frame. Such an annular sealing collar serves to tightly connect the frame to a surface seal provided on the wall. It can also be formed by several individual sealing strips.

[0017] Preferably, the sealing collar is provided on one or both sides with an adhesion-promoting layer, in particular in the form of a woven or non-woven fabric layer. Such an adhesion-promoting layer serves as a base for tile adhesive, filler material, or the like.

[0018] Further features and advantages of the present invention will become clear from the following description with reference to the accompanying drawing. Therein is Figure 1 is a perspective exploded view showing an installation kit according to an embodiment of the present invention, comprising a container, a frame, and a sealing sleeve; Figure 2 is a side view of the container; Figure 3 is a front view of the container; Figure 4 is a perspective view of the container; Figure 5 is a side view of the frame; Figure 6 is a front view of the frame; Figure 7 is a perspective view of the frame; Figure 8 is a perspective view of the container and frame after initial assembly steps; and Figure 9 is a partial sectional view of the container, frame, and sealing sleeve after further assembly steps.

[0019] The Figures 1 to 7Figure 1 shows a mounting kit 1 according to an embodiment of the present invention or its components. The mounting kit 1 serves to create a wall niche and comprises as its main components a container 2, a frame 3, and a sealing sleeve 4, wherein the container 2 and the frame 3, viewed from the front, have a rectangular shape. However, it should be clear that other shapes are also possible in principle, such as the shape of any polygon, a circle, or an oval shape, to name just a few examples.

[0020] The container 2 is made of sheet metal. However, other materials, such as plastic, are also conceivable. Although not shown, it can be coated, at least on its visible surfaces when installed, for example with a powder coating, paint, or the like. The container 2 has a rear wall 5 and a circumferential wall 6, which is watertight and connected to the rear wall. This circumferential wall 6 is formed by four parallel pairs of circumferential wall sections 6a-d. The container 2 has an access opening 7 on its front. Threaded studs 8 are attached to the circumferential wall 6 at opposite positions, projecting outwards from the circumferential wall 6 at right angles. In the illustrated embodiment, four threaded studs 8 are provided, although a different number can also be chosen.

[0021] Frame 3, which in this case is also made of sheet metal, forms a separate component designed to be slid onto the container 2 from the front. It is bent from a single sheet of metal, which is the preferred option. However, frame 3 could also be a welded construction. It is also possible to manufacture frame 3 from plastic. The frame 3 comprises a side wall section 9, which, when the frame 3 is pushed onto the container 2, surrounds the outer surface of the perimeter wall 6 of the container 2 and at least partially abuts the outer surface of the perimeter wall 6; a front wall section 10, which in this case is formed circumferentially and extends outwards in a flange-like manner relative to the side wall section 9, forming an angle of 90° with the side wall section 9; and a transition section 11 connecting the side wall section 9 and the front wall section 10. In the illustrated embodiment, the side wall section 9 has four circumferentially distributed side wall section segments 9a-d, each trapezoidal and tapering towards the rear, with the side wall section segments 9a-d preferably extending as close as possible to the corners on both sides. The front wall area 10 can be provided with an adhesive layer on its front and / or back side, even if not shown here, in particular in the form of a woven or non-woven fabric layer, to facilitate the attachment of the sealing collar 4 and / or the attachment of the frame 3 to a wall. The transition area 11 is accordingly formed by four transition area sections 11a-d. These are designed such that, when the frame 3 is pushed onto the container 2, the transition area 11 forms a frontally accessible, at least substantially circumferential joint space for receiving a, in particular, sealing adhesive, which is achieved here by a correspondingly rounded bending edge. The joint space preferably has a width b in the range of 3 to 5 mm and / or a depth t in the range of 3 to 5 mm at at least one location. Two opposing side wall sections 9a and 9c are each provided with slots 12 extending in the sliding direction, the positions of which correspond to the positions of the threaded studs 8. Furthermore, four nuts 13 matching the threaded studs 8 and, optionally, a corresponding number of washers are provided.

[0022] The annular sealing sleeve 4 is designed to be glued to the front outer surface of the front wall area 10 of the frame 3. It is dimensioned such that it projects outwards beyond the frame 3. The front side of the sealing sleeve 4 is provided with an adhesive layer 14, in particular in the form of a woven or non-woven fabric layer. The back side of the sealing sleeve 4 is also provided with such an adhesive layer or with an adhesive layer to facilitate attachment to the frame 3, although this is not shown in the figures.

[0023] To create a wall niche, in this case in a shower, the frame 3 is first inserted from the front towards the inside. Figure 1The frame 3 is slid onto the container 2 in the direction of the arrow 15. During this sliding motion, the threaded studs 8 of the container 2 are inserted into the corresponding slots 12 of the frame 3. The installer can freely choose how far to slide the frame 3 onto the container 2 to achieve the desired appearance. Once the desired position is reached, it is secured using the nuts 12 and, optionally, the washers. The result shows Figure 8The gap between the container 2 and the frame 3 is then sealed by filling the joint formed by the transition area 11 with a waterproof adhesive 16, such as silicone or similar. The container 2, with the frame 3 attached to it, is then inserted into a pre-made opening 17 in a drywall partition 18 that has a surface seal. For this purpose, the back of the front wall area 10 of the frame 3 can be glued to the drywall partition 18. In a further step, the sealing collar 4 is glued to the front of the frame 3, and the areas of the sealing collar 4 that protrude from the frame 3 are glued to the surface seal of the drywall partition 18. The result shows Figure 9 . As a final step, the drywall can be tiled or plastered.
