AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Conventional wheel detectors in railway systems are highly sensitive to external disturbances, leading to false triggering and malfunctions due to interference signals, such as currents in the rails.

Method used

A wheel detector with an adjustable transmitting frequency and an evaluation device that adjusts the frequency based on a predetermined switching criterion to mitigate interference, allowing it to operate undisturbed by selecting different transmission frequencies when interference is detected.

Benefits of technology

The solution significantly reduces interference sensitivity, preventing false triggers and ensuring continuous operation by adjusting transmission frequencies to avoid interference, thus maintaining reliable wheel detection.

Abstract

The invention relates, among other things, to a wheel detector for a railway track system for detecting the wheels of passing rail vehicles. According to the invention, the wheel detector is equipped with a transmitting device (10) designed to generate an alternating electromagnetic field, and its active transmission frequency (f) is adjustable by a control signal (ST). The active transmission frequency (f) can be selected from at least two different transmission frequencies. Furthermore, an evaluation device (30) of the wheel detector is configured to adjust the transmission frequency (f) by the control signal (ST) when a received signal (Se) from a receiving device (20) of the wheel detector meets a predetermined switching criterion.
