Description

Description Title of the invention: System and method for manufacturing a cell battery Technical field of the invention

[0001] The invention relates to the technical field of manufacturing a battery cell. In particular, the invention relates to a method for manufacturing a battery cell and a system for manufacturing a battery cell. Anterior artery

[0002] I is known to manufacture a lithium-ion battery module with several cells of battery. Each battery cell comprises a stack of electrodes separated by a separating film is interposed between two electrodes. To obtain such a stack, it is known to process each layer of the stack one by one, said layer being chosen from: a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separating film; this is not satisfactory because manufacturing such a stack requires a lot of time.

[0003] To improve manufacturing speed, it is known to use a separator film which is integrated into the stack by folding said separator film accordion-style; thus, the The same separator film is used to separate each pair of adjacent electrodes. in the stack. To this end, at each fold of the separator film added to the stack, an electrode chosen from a positive electrode and a negative electrode is added on a portion of the separator film previously added to the stack. However, In some cases, a problem arises: folding the separator can generate creases. said separator and cause mechanical damage to the battery cell. Furthermore, due to the increasing demand for battery cells, another problem arises. The problem to be solved is that of accelerating the battery cell manufacturing process.

[0004] To attempt to solve the aforementioned problems, the US patent application 2015 / 0263375 A1 describes a device with which, during the production of an em- stack of electrodes, a separator film is folded alternately on both sides of a stack of electrodes. This device uses supports, which are put in place as close as possible to the fold to be formed, immobilize the material to be folded for the se- preparation across its entire width, and pocket formation occurs thanks to a flow of gas originating from a pressure-boosting module across the entire width of the separator film, this which allows for damage-free and harmonious accordion folding.

[0005] — However, the solution described in US document 2015 / 0263375 A1 is based on a guide device for accordion folding of the separator film, as well as on the minus a clamp for gripping and removing electrodes and a pressure boosting module, This suggests that the process is costly to implement and that the movement of the various components used slows down the battery cell manufacturing process. Other advantages and features will appear in the detailed description that follows. Brief description of the drawings The invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: [Fig.1] The [Fig.1] is a schematic representation of a battery cell manufacturing system according to a first embodiment of a battery cell manufacturing process. [Fig.2] Fig.2 is a schematic representation of a battery cell manufacturing system according to a second embodiment of the described battery cell manufacturing process. [Fig.3] Fig.3 is a detailed view of the stacking station of the system shown in Figures 1 and 2. In these figures, the same reference numbers are used to designate the same elements. For clarity, the figures are not necessarily reproduced at the scale. Detailed description By "between two values", it is meant that the limits defined by these two values are included in the range of values considered. By insulation, we mean electrical insulation. By "substantially parallel" we mean parallel or parallel with a margin of error of plus or minus 10%. By "approximately orthogonal", we mean orthogonal or orthogonal with a margin of error of plus or minus 10%. The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a battery cell. The described process comprises the following steps, which can be deduced from Figures 1 and 2: - provide a first electrode film 10 having a first side and a second side opposite to the first side; - provide a first separator film 20a on the first side of the first electrode film 10 and a second separator film 20b on the second side of the first electrode film 10; - mark the first electrode film 10 at designated marking points la which are material removals made to locally weaken the structure of the first electrode film 10 and cause it to flex at a specific location, so that a first electrode 1 is delimited between two consecutive marking points, and so that the marking points la are intended to become flex points when the first electrode film 10 is bent; - to provide, between two consecutive marking points, second electrodes 2 alternately on the first separating film 20a and the second separating films 20b in such a way that each second electrode 2 is substantially opposite a first electrode 1 - to form electrode sets such that each electrode set 4 comprises one of the first electrodes 1, one of the second electrodes 2 and a separating portion 3 of the first separating film 20a or of the second separating film 20b, said separating portion 3 of the first separating film 20a or of the second separating film 20b being interposed between these first electrode 1 and second electrode 2; - to form, in a stacking station 700, a stack of electrode sets 5, the stacking formation step 5 comprising the multiple folding of the first electrode film 10 and the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b; each set of electrodes 4 being formed before the introduction of said set of electrodes 4 into the stacking station 700. Advantageously, the described method allows for a high-speed stacking process for the manufacture of secondary battery cells, The described process also makes it possible to reduce fumes by marking the first electrode film 10 instead of cutting it. The described process offers less handling of the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b, and improves the alignment of the first and second electrodes 1, 2 inside an electrode set 4 because the electrode set 4 is formed before being introduced into the stack 5. By providing a first separator film 20a on the first side of the first electrode film 10 and a second separator film 20b on the second side of the first electrode film, it is understood that the first separator film and the second separator film are in contact with the first electrode film. The second electrodes 2 are supplied on the first or second separator film 20a, 20b by cutting a second electrode film supplied continuously by at least one second electrode roll 401. According to a first embodiment of the invention shown in [Fig.1], the marking of the first electrode film 10 is carried out by laser engraving and the marking points designated there are laser-engraved holes. After laser etching of the first electrode film 10, the first electrode film 10 will comprise a substrate layer 1d surrounded on both sides by a layer of first electrode material le having holes etched la, as can be seen in [Fig.1]. Laser engraving of the first electrode film 10 allows the flex points to be defined where the first electrode film 10 will be bent to obtain the first electrodes 1, while reducing the fumes that can be generated by cutting the first electrode film 10 to obtain the first electrodes 1. Laser etching of the first electrode film 10 reduces the risk of damaging the first electrode film 10. According to a second embodiment of the invention illustrated in [Fig.2], the marking of the first electrode film 10 is carried out by a pattern coating of the first electrode film 10 with a predefined pattern 1b and the marking points designated la are inter-pattern areas separating two consecutive patterns 1b, 1c. The predefined pattern 1b, lc as shown in [Fig.2] may include for example two rectangular-shaped layers of second electrode materials separated by a metallic layer such as aluminium. The pattern coating of the first electrode film 10 defines the flex points where the first electrode film 10 will be folded to obtain the first electrodes 1, while reducing the fumes that can be generated by cutting the first electrode film 10 in order to obtain the first electrodes 1. The pattern coating of the first electrode film 10 reduces the risk of damaging the first electrode film 10. The process can be such that, after the completion of the 5-layer stack of the electrode assembly, the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b are cut to allow the battery cell comprising the 5-layer stack of the electrode assembly to be obtained from the stacking station 700. Advantageously, this allows the manufacture of a new battery cell within the stacking station 700. In other words, the manufactured battery cell comprises, or can comprise, the 5-layer stack of the electrode assembly. According to one possibility, the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b are cut using a cutting unit 900, the cutting unit 900 being able to include a hot wire or scissors, for example, in order to obtain the desired cut. For each set of electrodes 4, the first and second electrodes 1, 2 can each be chosen as either a cathode or an anode. Thus, each set of electrodes comprises one anode and one cathode. As an example, the first electrode 1 is an anode for a secondary battery cell and the second electrode 2 is a cathode for the secondary battery cell. The first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b can be in the form of a strip which is initially wound so as to form respectively a first separator roll 201 suitable for feeding the first separator film 20a and a second separator roll 202 suitable for feeding the second separator film 20b. Thus, the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b can be fed respectively by the first and second separator rolls 201, 202 during the step of supplying the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b. The first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b may have the same dimensions and may be substantially identical, which means that the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b may be intended to be identical but may differ slightly due to manufacturing tolerances. The first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b may comprise a mixture of polyethylene, or polyvinylidene fluoride, PVDF, and a ceramic re-coating and may have a thickness between 12 jm and 24 um and a width between 90 mm and 1200 mm. In the final secondary battery, the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b included in the secondary battery cell are adapted to be impregnated with a liquid solution such as an electrolyte between the electrodes, to to allow the circulation of ions. The final battery comprises a plurality of battery cells in series, each comprising an anode and a cathode. Each cathode may comprise a mixture of aluminum and an active material, such as NMC 811 – NMC being an abbreviation for a composition of Nickel, Manganese, and Cobalt – and a ceramic coating, such as an aluminum hydroxide oxide, for example, Al₂O₅OH, and may have a thickness between 0.1 mm and 1 mm and a first dimension between 50 mm and 500 mm and a second dimension, orthogonal to the first dimension, between 300 mm and 1000 mm. In particular, the cathodes are identical. Each anode can comprise a mixture of copper, an active material such as graphite, lithium metal and can have a thickness between 0.1 mm and 1 mm and a first dimension between 50 mm and 500 mm and a second dimension, orthogonal to the first dimension, between 300 mm and 1000 mm. In particular, the anodes are identical. In this description, the first dimension corresponds to the width of the first separator film 20a or the second separator film 20b and the second dimension corresponds to the length of the first separator film 20a or the second separator film 20b when the corresponding electrode chosen from the first electrode 1 and the second electrode 2 is in place relative to the first separator film 20a or the second separator film 20b to form a matching electrode set 3. According to the materials mentioned above, the battery cell is preferably intended to form a lithium-ion battery. Thus, in a given battery cell, the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b are intended to be impregnated with an electrolyte in order to define a plurality of elementary battery cells in series, so that between the lower electrode set and the upper electrode set of the corresponding stack of electrode sets, each anode and each cathode is common to two successive elementary battery cells. The process is such that the second electrodes 2 are provided alternately on the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b, that is to say, a second electrode 2 is provided on the first separator film 20a, then another second electrode 2 is provided on the second separator film 20b so that each second electrode 2 substantially faces a first electrode 1. The predefined value between two consecutive first electrodes 1 can, for example, be chosen between the larger value between the first and second dimensions of the first and second electrodes 1, plus a tolerance range that may have a suitable value to allow the stacking of the first electrode 1 and the second electrode 2 with interposition of a corresponding separation portion. The tolerance range can be the largest value plus 10%. The electrode assembly formation step includes, for each electrode assembly 4 to be formed, a step of rolling the second electrode 2 of said electrode assembly 4 onto the first or second separator film 20a, 20b, so that said second electrode 2 is solid to the first or second separator film 20a, 20 at the end of said rolling step. Advantageously, thanks to the lamination of the second electrode 2 of said electrode set 4 on the first or second separator film 20a, 20b, the second electrode 2 will have a fixed position on the first or second separator film 20a, 20b in order to generate the electrode set. To form a matching electrode set, an electrode-holding device, such as a robotic gripper, can hold the second electrode 2 and bring it against the first or second separator film 20a, 20b, so that the first electrode 1 and the second electrode 2 are aligned with the interposition of a corresponding separator portion of the first or second separator film 20a, 20b. When the first electrode is an anode, said first electrode 1 completely covers said second electrode 2 in order to improve the capacity of the final battery. For each set of electrodes 4, the electrode holder device can also be configured to move said set of electrodes 4 to the stacking station 700 in order to form the stack 5 of electrode sets. The stack formation step 5 can be such that each pair of adjacent electrode sets in the stack 5 of electrode sets comprises two electrode sets respectively called first electrode set 4a and second electrode set 4b, the first set of electrodes 4a and the second set of electrodes 4b being stacked with an inter-set separating portion 3a interposed, said inter-set separator portion 3a being formed by a corresponding part of the first or second separator film 20a, 20b, and being connected to the separator portion 3 of the second set of electrodes 4b by a separator link portion 3b. The interposition of the inter-assembly separating portion 3a means that the inter-assembly separating portion 3a is in contact with both the first and second sets of electrodes 4a, 4b. Advantageously, stacking the first set of electrodes 4a and the second set of electrodes 4b with interposition of the inter-set separator portion 3a allows the electrode sets to be isolated in the stack 5. According to one possibility, for each set of 4 electrodes introduced into the station stacking station 700 after a set of electrodes previously introduced into the stacking station 700, the stacking formation step 5 of electrode sets 4 comprises: - a first folding of the first separating film 20a and the second separating films 20b in a first folding direction, - a first folding of the first electrode film 10 in the first folding direction, the first folding of the first electrode film 10 resulting in a first bend of the first electrode film 10 at the level of a first marking point, - a second folding of the first separator film 20a and the second separator films 20b in a second folding direction, - a second folding of the first electrode film 10 in the second folding direction, the second folding of the first electrode film 10 resulting in a second bending of the first electrode film 10 at a second marking point consecutive to the first marking point, - the first and second foldings of the first electrode film 10 resulting in the formation of the first electrode 1 from the first electrode film 10, - the first and second folds of the first separator film 20a and of the second separator film 20b and the first and second folds of the first electrode film 10 being intended to allow the stacking of the set of electrodes introduced 4 with a corresponding set of electrodes previously introduced. Thanks to the first and second folds of the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b and the first and second folds of the first electrode film 10, it becomes possible to isolate sets of electrodes in the stack 5 and to limit the dimension of the separator films between two sets of stacked electrodes. According to one possibility, for each set of electrodes 4 introduced into the stacking station 700 after a set of electrodes previously introduced into the stacking station 700, the step of forming the stack 5 of sets of electrodes includes a displacement of said previously introduced set of electrodes to permit the stacking of said introduced set of electrodes with the previously introduced set of electrodes. Advantageously, moving the previously introduced electrode assembly avoids the separator folds. The stacking station 700 may include a stacking platform 701 configured to perform a linear movement F in a direction substantially parallel to a stacking direction of the electrode assemblies in the assembly station 500 and configured to support the electrode assembly 4, and in which each displacement is performed by the linear movement F of the stacking platform 701. Advantageously, the linear movement F of the 701 stacking platform allows the displacement of said previous set of electrodes to allow the stacking of each set of electrodes introduced last into the stacking station 700 on a set of electrodes introduced previously into the stacking station 700. In particular, the first of the electrode sets introduced into the stacking station 700 is placed on the stacking platform 701 and the other electrode sets introduced are then successively stacked on top of the first of the electrodes introduced. The stacking platform 701 can be configured to perform a linear movement F in a direction substantially orthogonal to a direction of introduction of the electrode assembly into the assembly station 700. The speed of the linear movement F can be correlated to the speed of the first electrode film 10 so as to avoid the formation of creases on the separator film, as long as the stacking platform 701 descends at the correct speed. The invention further relates to a system 1000 for manufacturing a battery cell, said system 1000 comprising: - a first electrode film supply station 100 which supplies a first electrode film 10 having a first side and a second side opposite to the first side; - a first separator film supply station 201 supplying a first separator film 20a on the first side of the first electrode film 10 and a second separator film supply station 202 supplying a second separator film 20b on the second side of the first electrode film 10; - a marking station 300 in which the first electrode film 1 is marked at designated marking points la, so that a first electrode 1 is delimited between two consecutive marking points, the marking points la being intended to become bending points when the first electrode film 10 is bent; - a second electrode supply station 400 alternately supplying, between two consecutive marking points, second electrodes 2 alternately on the first separating film 20a and the second separating films 20b so that each second electrode 2 substantially faces a first electrode 1; - an electrode assembly station 500, in which electrode assemblies are formed such that each electrode assembly 4 comprises a first electrode 1, a second electrode 2 and a separating portion 3 of the first separating film 20a or of the second separating film 20b, said separating portion 3 of the first separating film 20a or of the second separating film 20b being interposed between said first electrode 1 and said second electrode 2; - a stacking station 700, in which a stack 5 of electrode sets is intended to be formed by multiple folding of the first electrode film 10 and the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b. System 1000 is configured to allow the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b to move from the first electrode film supply station 100 to the stacking station 700, the electrode assembly station 500 being arranged so that it is crossed by the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b between the first separator film supply station 201 and the second separator film supply station 202 and the stacking station 700. According to the embodiment illustrated in [Fig.1], the marking station 300 includes a laser engraving device 301 which laser engraves the first electrode film 10, and in which the marking points designated la are laser-engraved holes. The laser engraving device may include a first engraving unit 301 which engraves the first side of the first electrode and a second engraving unit 302 which engraves the second side of the first electrode. According to the embodiment shown in [Fig.2], the marking station 300 includes a pattern coating device 303 which coats the first electrode film 10 with a predefined pattern 1b and in which the marking points designated la are Inter-pattern Zones separating two consecutive patterns 1b, 1c. As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the first and second separator film supply stations 201, 202 may include first and second rolls of separator film continuously supplying the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b and at least one pulley configured to bend the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b in order to guide the first separator film 20a and the second separator film 20b to the electrode assembly station 500. According to one possibility, the electrode assembly station 500 is configured to implement a rolling process such that, for each set of electrodes to be formed, the separating portion 3 of the first or second separating film 20a, 20b of said set of electrodes is rolled with the second electrode 2 of said set of electrodes 4. To implement the lamination mentioned above, the electrode assembly station 500 may include a heated roller laminator 601 comprising heated rollers 602. The heated roller laminator 601 is configured to laminate the second electrode 2 of a matching set of electrodes, to be formed with the first separator film 103. For each set of electrodes 4 to be formed, before the second electrode 2 is laminated onto the first or second separator film 20a, 20b, an electrode-holding device could hold the second electrode 2 of said set of electrodes 4 in order to keep the second electrode 2 in contact with the first or the second separating film 20a, 20b so that the first electrode | and the second electrode 2 are aligned and that the first or second separating film 20a, 20b are locally interposed, via the separating portion 3, between the first electrode 1 and the second electrode 2. Advantageously, the lamination of the second electrode 2 on the first or second separator film 1, 2 allows the second electrode 2 to be fixed on the first or second separator film 20a, 20b, thus limiting the risk of slippage of the second electrode 2 and of breakage of the alignment between the first electrode 1 and the second electrode 2. The stacking station 700 may include a stacking platform 701, configured to perform a linear movement F in a direction substantially parallel to a stacking direction of the electrode assemblies in the stacking station 700 and configured to support the stacked electrode assemblies. The linear movement F of the stacking platform 701 is controlled to depend on the speed of the first electrode film 10. Preferably, this dependence of the linear motion F on the speed of the first electrode film 10 is electronically controlled. In fact, the control can be performed by a computer that monitors the speed of the linear motion F and the speed of the first electrode film 10 in order to maintain the desired values. The linear movement F can be generated by a servomotor. Advantageously, the linear movement F of the 701 stacking platform helps to avoid creases in the separator film.
