Description

Title of the invention: Modular storage unit Field of invention

[0001] The present patent application relates to the field of modular storage furniture and more particularly to the field of furniture to be assembled manually by the user.

[0002] The present invention thus aims at producing furniture made up of elements and modules capable of presenting several kinds of combinations, in particular to form a wardrobe, a shoe cabinet, a display stand or a shelf, for example. State of the art

[0003] Storage furniture is known which is made from pre-cut chipboard panels and delivered to be assembled by the user.

[0004] This type of furniture has the advantage of being inexpensive due to the reduction in labor required for its manufacture.

[0005] Also, these pieces of furniture have a small footprint before assembly, which makes them easier to transport.

[0006] On the other hand, this type of furniture to be assembled generally has the disadvantage of being little or not at all modular, that is to say that the elements which constitute it are not designed to form several combinations, so that this type of furniture has no modularity and is limited to a single final form and a single use.

[0007] Document FR2517185 describes and represents a piece of furniture which partially meets this modularity problem.

[0008] The piece of furniture according to document FR2517185 comprises two uprights which extend vertically facing each other and which are each pierced with a plurality of vertical slots.

[0009] A horizontal panel is provided, along its edges opposite the uprights, with four fixing tabs which are received in the slots formed by the uprights, so that the panel is adjustable in height.

[0010] In addition, the piece of furniture according to document FR2517185 includes removable fixing means provided for securing the fixing lugs of the horizontal panel to the associated upright, in a desired position of the top.

[0011] Although the furniture according to document FR2517185 offers a certain flexibility of use by proposing a height adjustment of its horizontal panels, it offers a limited number of combinations and final uses.

[0012] The applicant thus submits that the solutions of the prior art are unsatisfactory. and do not allow us to offer furniture on the market that is modular, easy to assemble and attractive. Statement of the invention

[0013] The present invention aims to improve the situation described above.

[0014] One of the objectives of the present invention is to solve the problems mentioned above, by eliminating the drawbacks of the cited prior art, by proposing a modular storage unit which can be mounted in different configurations to meet different needs, with elements which can be combined and replaced at will.

[0015] This objective, as well as others which will become apparent upon reading the following description, is achieved with a modular storage unit comprising a frame comprising at least a first upright and a second upright which are arranged facing each other in a longitudinal direction and which each extend transversely from front to back in a vertical plane.

[0016] According to the present invention, each upright is perforated with a plurality of slots, and in that said piece of furniture comprises at least one rod which is adapted to extend longitudinally between the two uprights in a support position in which a first free end of the rod rests on the periphery of one of said slots of the first upright and a second free end of the rod rests on the periphery of one of said slots of the second upright.

[0047] In the description and the claims, the terminology longitudinal, vertical and transverse will be adopted without limitation with reference to the trihedron L, V, T indicated in the figures, considering that the piece of furniture occupies a vertical upright position of use on a horizontal floor.

[0048] Also, the expressions “upper”, “lower” and “low”, “high” will be used without limitation in reference to the upper part and the lower part respectively of [Fig.l].

[0049] Throughout these figures, identical or similar elements are identified by identical or similar reference signs.

[0050] Detailed description of embodiments of the invention

[0051] Figures 1 and 2 show a modular storage unit 10 according to the invention, which comprises a frame formed essentially by a first lateral upright 12a, a second lateral upright 12b, a first rear wall 14a and a second rear wall 14b.

[0052] The first upright 12a and the second upright 12b are arranged opposite each other in a longitudinal direction and each extend transversely from front to rear in a vertical plane.

[0053] Also, with reference to [Fig.2], the first upright 12a and the second upright 12b each have a generally rectangular shape which is delimited transversely by a rear edge 16a, 16b and a front edge 18a, 18b respectively.

[0054] In addition, the first upright 12a and the second upright 12b are each delimited vertically by an upper edge 20a, 20b and a lower edge 22a, 22b respectively.

[0055] It will be noted that the frame of the piece of furniture 10 has a symmetrical design along a sagittal median plane S which is visible in [Fig.l].

[0056] The symmetrical elements of the piece of furniture 10 are identified by the same numerical references and distinguished by the letters a and b.

[0057] It will be noted that, in the example described here, the piece of furniture 10 has a symmetrical configuration. Those skilled in the art will understand here that this is one example of an embodiment among others possible and that the piece of furniture can alternatively have an asymmetrical configuration with, for example, uprights 12a and 12b of different shapes.

[0058] The first rear wall 14a and the second rear wall 14b of the cabinet 10 each have a generally rectangular shape which is delimited longitudinally by a first lateral edge 24a, 24b and a second lateral edge 26a, 26b, and which is delimited vertically by an upper edge 28a, 28b and a lower edge 30a, 30b respectively.

[0059] In addition, the first rear wall 14a and the second rear wall 14b extend each longitudinally in a vertical plane, from the rear edge 16a of the first upright 12a and the rear edge 16b of the second upright 12b respectively.

[0060] Thus, the first rear wall 14a and the first upright 12a form a first vertical angle, and the second rear wall 14b and the second upright 12b form a second vertical angle.

[0061] It will be noted that the first rear wall 14a, the second rear wall 14b, the first upright 12a and the second upright 12b of the piece of furniture 10 are identical, which makes it possible to optimize the production of the piece of furniture 10 and to limit the size of the piece of furniture 10 before assembly.

[0062] Still according to figures 1 and 2, the frame of the piece of furniture 10 comprises a horizontal rectangular base 32 which forms the bottom of the piece of furniture 10.

[0063] The base 32 has an upper face 34 which delimits a first transverse imprint 36a and a second transverse imprint 36b which respectively accommodate the lower edge 22a of the first upright 12a and the lower edge 22b of the second upright 12b.

[0064] Similarly, the upper face 34 of the base 32 delimits a longitudinal imprint 38 which accommodates the lower edge 30a of the first rear wall 14a and the lower edge 30b of the second rear wall 14b.

[0065] The frame of the piece of furniture 10 is completed by a metal structure which comprises a first L-shaped element 40a formed by a first vertical section 42a and a second transverse section 44a which extend respectively along the front edge 18a and the upper edge 20a of the first upright 12a.

[0066] By symmetry along the plane S, the metal structure comprises a second L-shaped element 40b formed by a first vertical section 42b and a second transverse section 44b which extend respectively along the front edge 18b and the upper edge 20b of the first upright 12b.

[0067] With reference to [Fig.2], the first section 42a and the second section 42b each comprise a bracket 46a, 46b respectively which supports the base 32.

[0068] Also, the first section 42a and the second section 42b each have a lower free end which forms a first foot 48a and a second foot 48b respectively.

[0069] In addition, the metal structure comprises a first lower U-shaped crosspiece 50 formed by a longitudinal section 52 which supports the base 32 with two tabs 54a, 54b provided for this purpose.

[0070] Also, the first lower crosspiece 50 comprises, at its free ends, a third vertical foot 56a and a fourth vertical foot 56b.

[0071] Finally, the metal structure comprises a second upper U-shaped crosspiece 58 formed by a longitudinal section 60 which is extended by a first sleeve 62a transverse and a second transverse sleeve 62b.

[0072] The first sleeve 62a and the second sleeve 62b are fitted onto the second section 44a of the first L-shaped element 40a and onto the second section 44b of the second L-shaped element 40b respectively.

[0073] The elements which form the frame of the piece of furniture 10 illustrated in [Fig.2], are mechanically secured to each other by fixing members (not shown) such as screws, so that the frame forms a rigid assembly.

[0074] According to the invention, the first upright 12a is perforated with a plurality of slots 64a which are visible in detail in [Fig.3].

[0075] The lights 64a each have a cylindrical periphery 66a which extends from an internal face 68a to an external face 70a of the first associated upright 12a.

[0076] By symmetry along the plane S, the second upright 12b is perforated with a plurality of slots 64b each having a cylindrical periphery 66b which extends from an internal face 68b to an external face 70b of the second upright 12b.

[0077] The lights 64a, 64b are arranged regularly transversely forming a plurality of lines, and are arranged regularly vertically forming a plurality of columns.

[0078] With reference to figures 1, 3 and 4, the piece of furniture 10 is equipped with a plurality of removable rods 72 which extend longitudinally from a first free end which delimits a first notch 76a of annular shape, to a second symmetrical free end which delimits a second notch 76b of annular shape.

[0079] Each rod 72 is adapted to extend longitudinally between the two uprights 12a, 12b in a support position illustrated in Figures 1 and 3, in which the first notch 76a of each rod 72 bears on the periphery 66a of one of the slots 64a of the first upright 12a and the second notch 76b of each rod 72 bears on the periphery 66b of one of the slots 64b of the opposite second upright 12b.

[0080] In other words, the notches 76a, 76b overlap the periphery 66a, 66b of the associated lights 64a, 64b.

[0081] Thus, in its support position, each rod 72 is blocked longitudinally between the two uprights 12a, 12b.

[0082] To modify the position of a rod 72, it is sufficient to lift this rod 72 slightly upwards, then to drive it longitudinally out of the slots 64a, 64b with which it cooperated, before replacing the rod 72 in a new support position in which this rod cooperates with two other slots 64a, 64b.

[0083] Preferably, each rod 72, in its support position, cooperates with two lights 66a, 66b which are arranged opposite each other, so that each rod 72 extends longitudinally and horizontally.

[0084] The rods 72 visible in figures 1, 3 and 4 are made of cylindrical wood.

[0085] However, according to an alternative embodiment, the rods can be made with a metal tube.

[0086] Such a variant is shown in [Fig.6], which illustrates a tubular rod 78 which has a first free end delimiting a first notch 82a.

[0087] The first notch 82a is designed to rest on and overlap the periphery 66a of one of the slots 64a of the first upright 12a.

[0088] The notch 82a is produced initially by cutting a semi-cylindrical strip 84a of the rod 78, then in a second step by stamping the strip 84a towards the inside of the tubular rod 78.

[0089] By symmetry, the rod 78 has a second free end delimiting a second notch 82b identical to the first notch 82a previously described.

[0090] As can be seen in [Fig. 1], the piece of furniture 10 according to the invention is made up of elements and modules capable of several kinds of combinations, making it possible in particular to form a low piece of furniture as illustrated in [Fig.7], a wardrobe as illustrated in [Fig.8], or even a shoe cabinet, a display stand or a shelf, for example.

[0091] For this purpose, with reference to [Fig. 1], the piece of furniture 10 can be equipped with a plurality of removable trays 86, sliding doors 88, drawers 90 and a lectern 92.

[0092] With reference to Figures 4 and 5, each tray 86 has an upper face 94 adapted to support objects and a lower face 96.

[0093] The lower face 96 delimits a front groove 98 and a rear groove 100.

[0094] The front groove 98 and the rear groove 100 each extend longitudinally over the entire length of the associated plate 86, and they each have a shape complementary to the shape of the rods 72, that is to say a shape of a concave semi-cylindrical chute.

[0095] Each tray 86 is designed to occupy a support position illustrated in Figures 1 and 5, in which the tray 86 is interposed longitudinally between the two lateral uprights 12a, 12b of the piece of furniture 10, and in which each groove 98, 100 cooperates with an associated support rod 72, to block the tray 86 in transverse movement.

[0096] Alternatively, it is possible to provide magnetic assembly means between the rod 72 and the plate 86 (not shown here).

[0097] In the embodiment with a wooden rod 72, ferromagnetic elements should be embedded in the rod 72 and in each groove 98 and 100 for assembly of the rod 72 and the plate 86 by magnetization.

[0098] In the other embodiment with a metal rod, it is simply suitable to embed ferromagnetic elements in each groove 98 and 100.

[0099] Furthermore, with reference to [Fig.l], each plate 86 is blocked vertically in its support position by a first longitudinal pin 101b which is mounted in a complementary housing 103b delimited by the internal face 68b of the second upright 12b.

[0100] The internal face 68b of the second upright 12b has a plurality of housings 103b which are aligned vertically in a column and which make it possible to adapt the position of the pin 101b to the height of the associated plate 86.

[0101] By symmetry along the plane S, each plate 86 is blocked vertically in its support position by a second longitudinal pin (not shown) which is mounted in a housing (not shown) delimited by the internal face 68a of the first upright 12a.

[0102] With reference to Figures 1 and 9, each plate 86 defines a first pair of lower grooves 102 which extend longitudinally on the lower face 96 and along a front edge of each plate 86, and a second pair of upper grooves 104 which extend longitudinally on the upper face 94 and along a front edge of each plate 86.

[0103] As can be seen in [Fig.9], a door 106 has an upper edge 108 which is received in one of the two lower grooves 102 of a first upper plate 86.

[0104] Conversely, the door 106 has a lower edge 110 which is received in one of the two upper grooves 104 of a second lower plate 86, so that the door 106 is mounted to slide longitudinally.

[0105] It will be noted that a second door (not shown) can be received by the grooves 102, 104 not used in [Fig.9].

[0106] It will also be noted that the depth of the two lower grooves 102 of each plate 86 is adapted to allow vertical movement of the associated door 106, in order to allow vertical clearance of the lower edge 110 of the door 106 outside the upper groove 104, which makes it possible to mount and dismount the door 106 without having to move the plates 86.

[0107] According to another aspect, the piece of furniture 10 shown in [Fig. 1] is equipped with two drawers 90, one of which is shown in detail in [Fig. 10].

[0108] Each drawer 90 forms a removable module which is made in two parts and which comprises a U-shaped cradle 112 and a sliding housing 114.

[0109] The U-shaped cradle 112 is formed by two transverse cheeks 116 which are connected to each other by a platform 118.

[0110] Each cheek 116 delimits a recess 120 of oblong shape which extends transversely and which is provided for the passage of a first front rod 72 and a second rear rod 72.

[0111] As can be seen in [Fig. 10], the cradle 112 is suspended from the rods 72 which are threaded longitudinally through the recesses 120 provided for this purpose.

[0112] The housing 114 of each drawer 90 has an open parallelepiped shape which is delimited by two transverse side walls 122, a longitudinal front wall 124, a longitudinal rear wall 126 and a bottom 128.

[0113] The housing 114 is mounted to slide transversely from front to rear on the platform 118 of the cradle 112, between an open position, a closed position and a plurality of intermediate positions, one of which is illustrated in [Fig. 10].

[0114] In addition, the two side walls 122 of each sliding housing 114 each comprise an upper edge 128 which has a vertically projecting portion 130 forming a stop.

[0115] These projecting portions 130 are intended to be interposed between the first front rod 72 and the second rear rod 72 which support the cradle 112 of the drawer 90, so as to transversely limit the travel of the housing 114 sliding between its open position and its closed position.

[0116] The cradle 112 of each drawer 90 is obtained by folding a sheet metal plate 132 which is illustrated in [Fig.l 1] and which has mechanically weakened folding lines.

[0117] These folding lines are provided to guide and promote the folding of the sheet metal plate 132 in order to obtain the final shape of the cradle as illustrated in [Fig.10].

[0118] Similarly, the housing 114 of each drawer 90 is obtained by folding a sheet metal plate 134 which is illustrated in [Fig. 12] and which has mechanically weakened folding lines.

[0119] These folding lines are provided to guide and promote the folding of the sheet metal plate 134 in order to obtain the final shape of the housing 114 as illustrated in [Fig. 10].

[0120] Advantageously, each drawer 90 can be delivered in the form of two flat sheets 132, 134 which have a very small footprint, and which are easily folded into their final shape by the user, without specific tools.

[0121] According to another aspect of the invention, the lectern 92 visible in figures 1, 13 and 14, comprises a receiving face 136 which is adapted to support an object such as a book for example.

[0122] Also, the lectern 92 comprises a first upper tab 138 folded back which extends longitudinally from an upper edge 140 of the receiving face 136 and a second lower tab 142 folded forward which extends longitudinally from a lower edge 144 of the receiving face 136.

[0123] The upper tab 138 is provided to rest on a rod 72, to support the lectern 92, as illustrated in [Fig.l].

[0124] The lower tab 142 is provided to support the object which is resting on the receiving face 136.

[0125] In the same way as the drawer 90 described previously, the lectern 92 is obtained by folding a sheet metal plate 146, which is illustrated in [Fig. 14] before folding, and which has mechanically weakened folding lines.

[0126] These folding lines are provided to guide and promote the folding of the lectern 92 in order to obtain the final shape of the lectern 92 as illustrated in Figures 1 and 13.

[0127] Finally, [Fig.7] shows the piece of furniture 10 in a low piece of furniture configuration, which is equipped with a shelf 148.

[0128] The shelf 148 comprises a receiving face 150 which is adapted to support an object.

[0129] Also, the shelf 148 comprises a first rear wing 152 folded downwards which extends longitudinally from a rear edge 154 of the receiving face 150, and a second front wing 156 folded downwards which extends longitudinally from a front edge 158 of the receiving face 150.

[0130] The shelf 148 is intended to be placed on a first rear rod 72 and a second front rod 72 in a horizontal support position as illustrated in [Fig.7],

[0131] In this support position, the rear wing 152 and the front wing 156 of the shelf 148 cooperate with the rear rod 72 and the front rod 72 respectively, to both transversely block the shelf 148 and allow longitudinal sliding of the shelf 148 on the associated rods 72.

[0132] In the same way as the drawer 90 described previously, the shelf 148 is obtained by folding a sheet metal plate which has mechanically weakened folding lines.

[0133] These fold lines are provided to guide and promote the folding of the tablet 148 in order to obtain the final shape of the tablet 148 as illustrated in [Fig.7].

[0134] On reading this description, it will be understood that the piece of furniture 10 according to the invention offers great modularity making it possible to respond over time to different needs, with elements that can be combined and replaced at will.

[0135] Indeed, the rods 72, 78 can occupy as many different positions as there are slots 64a, 64b in each upright 12a, 12b.

[0136] In addition, the rods 72, 78 are designed to alternately support a tray 86, a drawer 90, a lectern 92 and a shelf 148, all of these elements being able to be combined and arranged according to the needs of the user.

[0137] It should be noted that this detailed description relates to a particular embodiment of the present invention, but that in no case does this description have any limiting character with respect to the subject of the invention; on the contrary, its objective is to remove any possible imprecision or misinterpretation of the claims which follow.

[0138] It should also be noted that the reference signs placed in parentheses in the following claims are in no way limiting; these signs have the sole purpose of improving the intelligibility and understanding of the following claims as well as the scope of the protection sought.
