AI Technical Summary
Skylights in industrial roofs pose a safety hazard due to their translucent nature, making it difficult for roof operators to assess the roof and increasing the risk of accidents, especially when walking on the roof.
A mesh system with additional safety wires and intermediate wires, arranged at specific distances, is used to enhance the structural integrity and safety of skylights, allowing for easier installation and reduced material and installation time.
The mesh system significantly increases resistance to falls, reduces impact inertia, and decreases material and transportation costs while ensuring safe roof traversal by informed personnel.

Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: TRELLIS FOR Skylight Protection Device OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a mesh for a protective device for skylights, improving the resistance capacity. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Nowadays, the roofs of industrial buildings generally include skylights to provide natural interior lighting. These skylights are weakened parts of the roof itself and can therefore cause falls when walking on the roof to carry out various tasks. Furthermore, these skylights are often represented by translucent areas of the roofing material. Due to their cost, performance, and ease of installation, roofs made of sandwich panels with one or two layers of aluminum, notched, and a foam core, on a truss structure, are becoming increasingly common. A notched translucent polymer sheet is placed over the skylights, continuous with the sandwich panels. This makes it difficult for roof operators to assess the roof, thus increasing the risk of accidents.
[0003] To overcome these drawbacks, the applicant holds utility model U202130083, which describes a skylight protection device comprising a mesh larger than the skylight opening, sufficiently to cover its perimeter, and perimeter anchors including support plates on the mesh and the perimeter of the skylight opening, for fixing the mesh to the latter by enveloping it against said perimeter, as well as screws or rivets for fixing the support plates to the material of the skylight opening perimeter. In addition to its intermediate wires, the mesh may include additional safety wires along its longitudinal (longer) sides, for example, to configure a multi-wire perimeter and increase safety.
[0004] During various tests, it was discovered that the strength of the truss could be increased with a certain configuration, even by increasing the distance between the fixings, thus overcoming the limitation of the previous embodiment. DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0005] The lattice of the invention is used to materialize protective devices for skylights of the type comprising:
[0006] - the lattice itself, having dimensions greater than the well opening light, to a sufficient extent to cover its outline, and
[0007] - perimeter anchors for fixing the mesh to the opening of the light well;
[0008] and the mesh comprising intermediate wires and additional safety wires at its longitudinal sides; where, according to the invention, the mesh comprises four additional safety wires on each longitudinal side, with a diameter of between 1.5 and 2.5 millimeters, and arranged at a first distance from each other of between 20 and 30 millimeters; while the intermediate wires have a diameter of between 1.5 and 2.5 millimeters and are arranged at a second distance from each other and from the fourth additional safety wire, of between 40 and 80 millimeters.
[0009] Increased resistance is thus obtained, capable of preventing falls in case of an accident, with simple assembly, the mesh being able to be supplied in rolls; and able to encompass areas greater than the width of the mesh by means of overlaps, which can be detached, or reinforced by staples or rings.
[0010] In practice, we obtain:
[0011] - An increase in resistance up to 2000 J, even when increasing the distance between the fixings, with a reduction in material, costs and installation time, which allows it to be walked on without actually circulating on it (only by informed and trained personnel).
[0012] - A reduction in impact inertia.
[0013] - A reduction in the weight and price of the material, as well as in transport costs, of storage and handling. Brief description of the drawings
[0014] Fig. 1 shows a partial perspective view of a light well protected by a protective device comprising the lattice of the invention, and an enlarged detail thereof.
[0015] Figure 2 shows a plan view of half of a light well protected by the protective device comprising the mesh of the invention.
[0016] DESCRIPTION OF A PRACTICAL IMPLEMENTATION METHOD OF THE INVENTION
[0017] The mesh (3) of the invention is used in skylight protection devices (1) for skylights (2), of the type comprising the mesh itself (3), having dimensions greater than the opening (20) of the skylight (2), to a sufficient extent to cover its contour (21), and perimeter anchors (4) with screws or rivets (42) - ideally trefoils - for fixing; and where the mesh (3) comprises intermediate wires (39) and additional safety wires (30) at its longitudinal sides (38); where, according to the invention, the mesh (3) comprises four additional safety wires (30) on each longitudinal side, of a diameter between 1.5 and 2.5 mm, and arranged at a first distance (d1) from each other of between 20 and 30 mm; while the intermediate wires have a diameter between 1.5 and 2.5 mm and are arranged at a distance (d2) from each other and from the fourth additional safety wire, of between 40 and 80 mm.
[0018] The preferred values of the additional safety wires (30) are a diameter of 2 mm and an arrangement at a first distance (dl) of 25.4 mm (1 inch); while the intermediate wires preferably have a diameter of 2 mm and are arranged at a second distance (d2) from each other and from the fourth additional safety wire, of 50.8 mm (2 inches), these being commercial gauges and the best results having been found during the tests carried out.
[0019] Similarly, a truss (3) with plan dimensions between 1100 mm and 2000 mm will be preferred, with options of 1373.6 mm, 1780 mm, and 1983.2 mm, which allows the trusses to be modulated and adapted to standard skylight dimensions. In particular, the truss has a plan width between 1100 mm and 2000 mm. More specifically, the truss has a selected plan width between 1373.6 mm, 1780 mm, and 1983.2 mm.
[0020] The mesh (3) is preferably made of electro-welded galvanized wire to minimize corrosion, and may ideally even include a plastic coating, enabling it to function optimally in highly corrosive environments. The plastic coating may even have a signal color, typically yellow.
[0021] The nature of the invention and its practical implementation having been sufficiently described, it should be emphasized that the aforementioned provisions and those shown in the attached drawings may be subject to minor modifications, provided that they do not alter the fundamental principle.
