Description

Title of the invention: Roller shutter box comprising an internal longitudinal reinforcement structure Technical field of the invention

[0001] The present invention relates to the general technical field of roller shutter systems for closing a building bay.

[0002] It relates more particularly to roller shutter boxes intended to be installed at the level of the upper rail of a joinery frame added within the equipped building bay. State of the art

[0003] Certain roller shutter boxes, equipped with a roller shutter curtain wound around a curtain support shaft, are adapted to be placed within the thickness of a building bay, between the lintel of the bay and the upper rail of the frame of the associated joinery.

[0004] Once installed, the roller shutter box and the top rail of the window frame can be subjected to relatively significant stresses. In particular, they can experience horizontal pressure and suction forces generated by the wind, as well as vertical bending due to their respective weights.

[0005] These phenomena, which can cause deformations of the various constituent parts, are mainly encountered in joinery and long chests.

[0006] In order to limit such deformations, certain roller shutter boxes include internal longitudinal or point reinforcement structures, fixed by screwing to the lower wall of the roller shutter box and to the upper crossbar of the frame of the joinery.

[0007] Such reinforcement structures are generally provided for during the manufacture of the roller shutter box, and they are present during the operation of installing the box.

[0008] However, if they are not present originally, if needed, it is not always possible or easy to bring them back a posteriori.

[0009] There is therefore a need for a roller shutter box capable of being fitted with such reinforcement structures, even after its installation within the building opening. Presentation of the invention

[0010] In order to remedy the aforementioned drawback of the prior art, the present invention proposes a roller shutter box, intended to be installed at the level of the upper rail of a window frame added within a building opening, which roller shutter box includes an internal volume adapted to receive a roller shutter curtain wound around a curtain support shaft,

[0011] which interior volume is delimited in particular by:

[0022] - a second means of assembly between said reinforcement structure and another element of the trunk that the said joining and guiding profile.

[0023] Preferably, this other element of the safe is the lower wall of the safe.

[0024] The first assembly means allows an operator to assemble a constituent part of the front edge of the reinforcement structure directly with a constituent part of the joining and guiding profile, remotely (in particular (from the opening of the access panel in the inner front wall) and without requiring any tools or added parts.

[0025] The means of assembly by hooking may also consist of means of assembly by embedding or by interlocking.

[0026] The second assembly means can be provided between the front and rear longitudinal edges of the lower wall of the box, and between the front and rear edges of the reinforcement structure, directly accessible by the operator from the access opening of the inner front wall.

[0047] In addition, various other features of the invention become apparent from the attached description made with reference to the drawings which illustrate one, non-limiting, embodiment of the invention and where:

[0048] [Fig-1] is a schematic cross-sectional view of a roller shutter box in accordance with the invention;

[0049] [Fig.2] is an enlarged view of detail A of the roller shutter box illustrated on the [Fig.l];

[0050] [Fig.3] is a schematic truncated perspective view of the roller shutter box illustrated in figures 1 and 2;

[0051] [Fig.4] is a schematic view illustrating a step in the assembly of the structure of reinforcement of the roller shutter box in figures 1 to 3.

[0052] The roller shutter box 1 according to the invention, shown in figures 1 to 3, is adapted to be installed in a bay (or opening) made through a building wall.

[0053] This roller shutter box 1 is intended to be installed between the upper rail T of a window frame (shown in dotted lines) and the upper part of the opening formed through the building wall (not shown).

[0054] This upper T-shaped frame consists here of a profile which includes two right-angled faces, namely: - a horizontal upper face T1, oriented towards the upper part of the bay, and - a vertical front face T2, oriented towards the outside.

[0055] The upper part of the bay can consist of a lintel equipped with a rebate suitable for receiving the roller shutter box 1.

[0056] The building wall, and the associated joinery, provide the separation between an interior space and an exterior space, which are designated respectively by the references "I" and "E" in figures 1 and 3.

[0057] The roller shutter box 1 surrounds a roller shutter curtain (not shown), at least partially and preferably almost entirely, which winds and unwinds around a roller shutter shaft designated A in Figures 1 and 3. The roller shutter shaft A is associated with means for driving its rotation around an axis of rotation AL

[0058] This roller shutter box 1 comprises for this purpose a set of four longitudinal walls, namely:

[0059] (i) two vertical front walls 2, 3 extending at a distance and facing each other the other, namely - an interior front wall 2 (or "rear wall") intended to be located on the interior side I of the building and - an exterior front wall 3 (or "front wall") intended to be located on the exterior side E of the building;

[0060] (ii) a horizontal lower wall 4, of general plane P, commonly referred to as the "underside", which lies below the roller shutter shaft A on which the roller shutter curtain is wound, and which, together with the outer front wall 3, defines an opening 5 for the passage of this roller shutter curtain between its folded / unfolded configurations, and

[0061] (iii) a horizontal upper wall 6, coming above the added roller shutter curtain, and extending at a distance and opposite the lower wall 4.

[0062] The roller shutter box 1 is further delimited on the sides by two end side walls 7 (one of which is shown in [Fig.3]), consisting here of parts called "flanges" or "end caps".

[0063] The four longitudinal walls 2, 3, 4, 6, and the two end lateral walls 7 are assembled by all appropriate means (interlocking, screwing, fixing brackets...) and together they delimit the internal volume V of the roller shutter box 1.

[0064] The distance D separating the inner front wall 2 and the outer front wall 3 defines the width of the inner volume V; The distance B separating the lower wall 4 and the upper wall 6 defines the height of the inner volume V; and the distance separating the two end walls 7 defines the length of the inner volume V.

[0065] The various walls 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 of the roller shutter box 1 consist here of parts made of a thermally insulating thermoplastic material, for example poly(vinyl chloride) (or PVC).

[0066] In particular, the longitudinal walls 2, 3, 4 and 6 advantageously consist of profiles that are manufactured by extrusion.

[0067] Alternatively, these walls 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 can be made of any other suitable material, for example wood or a thermoplastic material other than PVC.

[0068] The lower wall 4 comprises two opposing rectangular faces 10 and 11, namely:

[0069] - an internal face 10, oriented towards the inside of the roller shutter box 1 and opposite of the upper wall 6, and

[0070] - an opposite external face 11, oriented towards the outside of the roller shutter box 1.

[0071] This lower wall 4 still has a rectangular outline which is formed by - two longitudinal borders, one front 12 and the other rear 13, and - two transverse borders (not visible), which extend to the end side walls 7.

[0072] As can be seen in figures 1 and 2, the lower wall 4 of the roller shutter box rests on the upper face Tl of the upper crossbar T of the joinery frame.

[0073] The front longitudinal border 12 and the rear longitudinal border 13 define between them the width L of the lower wall 4.

[0074] A connecting and guide profile 14, attached, is assembled with the front longitudinal edge 12 of the lower wall 4 to stiffen the structure, ensure assembly with the upper crossbar T of the joinery and optimize the guidance of the roller shutter curtain.

[0075] This joining and guiding profile 14 extends over all or practically all of the length of the front longitudinal edge 12 of the lower wall 4; and it is assembled with this front longitudinal edge 12 by any suitable means, for example by interlocking and screwing.

[0076] The joining and guiding profile 14 comprises a first wing 141 and a second wing 142, which extend at right angles to each other, and which are connected by a connecting part 143 forming its angle.

[0077] The first wing 141 is positioned on the lower wall 4, against its inner face 10; and it is assembled with the lower wall 4, for example by means of screws (not shown) arranged at the level of a longitudinal groove 141a.

[0078] The second wing 142 extends at a right angle, or substantially at a right angle, to the first wing 141. It extends from the side of the external face 11 of the lower wall 4, and projects out from the plane of the latter, to come to rest against the vertical front face T2 opposite the upper frame cross member T.

[0079] This second wing 142 has a front face provided with at least one longitudinal groove, for the positioning of fixing screws, for the purpose of fixing it against the opposite face T2 of the associated upper frame cross member T (figures 1 and 2).

[0080] In the illustrated embodiment, fixing screws schematically represented by reference 15 ensure the fixing of the second wing 142 on the upper cross member of the frame T, at the level of a first longitudinal groove 142a; and other fixing screws (not shown) can complete this fixing, at the level of a second longitudinal groove 142b.

[0081] The connecting part 143, connecting the two wings 141 and 142, consists of a slightly curved convex wall which has a sliding surface.

[0082] This connecting portion 143 forms one of the longitudinal edges of the longitudinal opening 5 for the passage of the roller shutter curtain and serves as a guide for the latter. The sliding surface of this connecting portion 143 is adapted to limit friction of the roller shutter curtain during its operation between its extended and retracted positions.

[0083] The apron guide profile 14 here consists of a profile made of metal or plastic.

[0084] The other longitudinal border of the longitudinal light 5 for the passage of the roller shutter curtain is constituted by a lower longitudinal border 3a of the outer front wall 3.

[0085] The inner front wall 2 is provided to be removable to create an access opening O located on the inner side I of the building, allowing an operator to access the inner volume V of the box, in particular for maintenance operations of the roller shutter.

[0086] For this purpose, the lower longitudinal border 2a of this inner front wall 2 and the upper longitudinal border 2b of this inner front wall 2 may include elastic interlocking means adapted to cooperate with complementary elastic interlocking means provided at the opposite ends, respectively, of the lower wall 4 and the upper wall 6.

[0087] As can be seen in figures 1 and 3, the roller shutter box 1 also incorporates a block 16 made of insulating material, for example polystyrene, brought here into the interior volume V and on the side of the interior front wall 2 (in this case slightly recessed, a few millimeters or centimeters from the latter).

[0088] This block 16 of insulating material is delimited by a set of surfaces, and in particular a front surface 16a which is oriented with respect to the outer front wall 3, and which here has a concave cross-section in the form of a circular arc (centered or practically centered on the axis Al of the roller shutter shaft A), so as to optimize the insulation characteristics. The block 16d of insulating material occupies the entire height and the entire length of the internal volume V of the roller shutter box 1.

[0089] The insulating block 16 is designed to be removable and can be removed from the interior volume V of the trunk, in particular through the aforementioned access opening O, after removal of the inner front wall 2.

[0090] The roller shutter box 1 according to the invention is equipped with an internal reinforcement structure 20, attached to the lower wall 4, which has the function of increasing the rigidity of the roller shutter box 1 and the associated upper cross member T, ensuring - effective resistance to deformations related to horizontal / vertical bending phenomena, and - an increase in their inertia.

[0091] The reinforcement structure 20 is therefore made of a material having superior mechanical resistance characteristics to those of the associated lower wall 4.

[0092] By "mechanical strength characteristics", we mean in particular tensile strength and flexural strength.

[0093] In this case, this reinforcement structure 20 is generally in the form of a plate made of a rigid material, for example sheet metal, and more particularly folded sheet steel or extruded aluminum.

[0094] The reinforcement structure 20 includes a top face 20a which is oriented towards the internal volume V, or towards the roller shutter shaft A, and a bottom face 20b which is oriented towards the lower wall 4.

[0095] This reinforcement structure 20 is delimited by a front edge of the reinforcement structure 21 intended to be located on the side of the joining and guiding profile 14, and by a rear edge of the reinforcement structure 22 intended to be located on the side of the inner front wall 2; and it extends over the entire length, or practically the entire length, of the lower wall 4.

[0096] An objective of the present invention is to enable an operator to bring this reinforcement structure 20 and fix it within the internal volume V through the access opening O, after the installation of the joinery and its roller shutter box 1.

[0097] For this purpose, the roller shutter box 1 includes: - a first assembly means 23 by hooking the front edge of the reinforcement structure 21 onto the joining and guiding profile 14, and - a second assembly means 24 between the reinforcement structure 20 and the lower wall 4.

[0098] In the embodiment illustrated in the figures, the first assembly means 23 by hooking is of the type with rotation locking of the reinforcement structure 20.

[0099] More specifically, as can be seen in [Fig.2], this first means of assembly 23 by hooking comprises:

[0100] - a longitudinal hook 231 with an arc-shaped cross-section formed on the front edge 21 of the reinforcement structure 20 and

[0101] - a longitudinal ridge 232, complementary to the longitudinal hook 231, formed on the joining and guiding profile 14.

[0102] The longitudinal bead 232 is here formed as a single piece on the first wing 141 of the joining and guiding profile 14.

[0103] In one embodiment, the longitudinal hook and the longitudinal bead can be reversed on the front edge of the reinforcing structure 21 and on the joining and guiding profile 14.

[0104] The longitudinal bead 232 and the longitudinal hook 231 are arranged:

[0105] - to allow the introduction of the longitudinal bead 232 into the long hook gitudinal 231 when the rear edge 22 of the reinforcement structure 20 is moved away from the inner face 10 of the lower wall 4, in the manner illustrated in [Fig.4];

[0106] - then, to allow the pivoting of the reinforcement structure 20 against the wall in lower 4 (as illustrated by the orientation arrow F in [Fig. 4]), and, simultaneously, allow the relative rotational movement of the longitudinal hook 231 on the longitudinal bead 232, and

[0107] - once the reinforcement structure 20 is supported against the lower wall 4 (position illustrated in figures 1 and 2), to prevent separation between the longitudinal hook 231 and the longitudinal bead 232 during a tensile force on the reinforcement structure 20 in the direction of the inner front wall 2, parallel to the plane P of the lower wall 4.

[0108] In alternative embodiments, the means of assembly by hooking may include interlocking or embedding structures.

[0109] In figures 1, 3 and 4, it can be seen that the reinforcement structure 20 does not consist of a flat plate of material, but that it has a part whose section is in the shape of an arc of a circle, in particular to adapt to the winding of the deck and to gain height to increase the inertia of the profile.

[0110] More specifically, the reinforcement structure 20 comprises:

[0111] - a first part of a reinforcing structure 25, which extends from the edge before the reinforcing structure 21; this first part of the reinforcing structure 25 is flat and is pressed against the lower wall 4 (more particularly against its flat inner face 10), and

[0112] - a second part of a reinforcing structure 26 which extends from said first part of the reinforcing structure 25, up to the rear edge of the reinforcing structure 22; this second part of the reinforcing structure 26 has a circular arc section centered on the axis Al of the shaft A of the roller shutter curtain, and it moves away progressively from the lower wall 4.

[0113] The second means of assembly 24 between the reinforcing structure 20 and the wall in- lower 4 includes here a fixing bracket 27 which extends projecting from the underside face, and at least one fixing screw 28 for assembling this fixing bracket 27 with the lower wall 4 of the roller shutter box 1.

[0114] The fixing bracket 27 is made in one piece with the reinforcing structure 20; it extends at a right angle or substantially at a right angle from the under face 20b of the reinforcing structure 20, and more precisely from the second part of the reinforcing structure 26.

[0115] The fixing bracket 27 extends along the entire length of the reinforcement structure 20. Its length (or height) is adapted so that once the reinforcement structure 20 is correctly positioned, the end of this fixing bracket 27, and the first part of the reinforcement structure 25, are in contact with the top face 10 of the lower wall 4.

[0116] The fixing bracket 27 includes a plurality of holes or pre-drilled holes, or a simple groove, for positioning the fixing screws 28.

[0117] Such a reinforcement structure 20 can be put in place after the roller shutter has been installed in its receiving bay.

[0118] For this, as illustrated in [Fig.4], the operator intervenes on the interior side I of the building and can create the access opening O by removing the interior front wall 2 and the block 16 of insulating material; the roller shutter curtain is lowered (unrolled) to facilitate the intervention.

[0119] The operator can then bring back the reinforcement structure 20 and manipulate it from its rear edge 22, from the access opening O.

[0120] More specifically, it raises the rear edge 22 of the reinforcement structure 20 towards the shaft A of the roller shutter, which makes it possible to embed or hook the longitudinal hook 231 of its front edge 21 onto the longitudinal bead 232 of the joining and guiding profile 14 (due to the conformation / structure of the longitudinal hook 231 and the longitudinal bead 232).

[0121] Once this embedding / hooking has been carried out, the operator lowers the reinforcement structure 20 by pivoting it around the axis formed by the longitudinal hook 231 / longitudinal bead 232 couple (which then forms a kind of hinge or ball joint), until the first part of the reinforcement structure 25 and the end of the fixing tab 27 come to rest against the top face 10 of the lower wall 4 of the box.

[0122] As explained previously, the longitudinal hook 231 and the longitudinal bead 232 are structured so that once the reinforcement structure 20 is supported on the lower wall 4, the longitudinal hook 231 cannot be separated from the longitudinal bead 232 by a pull in the direction of the inner front wall 2, exerted parallel to the plane P of the lower wall 4.

[0123] The fixing bracket 27 of the reinforcement structure 20 is then positioned near the access opening O of the roller shutter box, and the operator can access it to finalize the fixing of the reinforcement structure 20 on the lower wall 4 by means of the fixing screws 28 which he can put in place with a manual screwdriver or an electric screwdriver.

[0124] As can be seen in [Fig.1], the fixing screws 28 are implanted approximately at 45° in the lower wall 4, relative to the plane P of the latter, perpendicular to the plane of the fixing bracket 27.

[0125] The operator can then put the block 16 of insulating material back in place by simple manual fitting, and then the inner front wall 2 by elastic fitting.

[0126] In figures 1 and 3, it can be seen that the lower part of the front surface 16a of the block 16 of insulating material comes to rest against the under face of the second part 26 of the reinforcement structure 20 and against the face opposite the fixing tab 27, in order to optimize the insulation characteristics.

[0127] In figures 1 and 3, it is noted that the front surface 16a of the block 16 of insulating material includes an outgrowth 161 under which the free end of the rear edge 22 of the reinforcement structure 20 is housed.

[0128] This feature makes it possible to ensure the "encasement", or integration, of the reinforcement 20 in the block 16 of insulating material, despite possible differences in the positioning of the joining and guiding profile 14.

[0129] In an alternative embodiment, the fixing screws of the second assembly means can be replaced by embedding means arranged for a force embedding of the rear edge of the reinforcement structure 20 in a suitable housing provided in the internal face of the lower wall 4.

[0130] In yet another embodiment, the second means of assembly can be provided between the reinforcement structure 20 and another element of the box than the lower wall 4, for example the end side walls 7.
