Abstract

[0013] Device for recharging electric vehicle batteries. [0014] The invention relates to a device for recharging electric vehicles equipped with two batteries more quickly. [0015] The device consists of a housing (Fig. 1) comprising two charging units (2), a cable (3) connected to the housing (1), a connector (Fig. 2) connected to the cable (3), and a plug (Fig. 3) designed to connect to the connector (Fig. 2). It also includes a switching unit allowing recharging on a "conventional" or "dual-charge" charger. The device includes a keying feature (5) on the connector (Fig. 2) and an opening (6) on the plug (Fig. 3). The keying feature (5) prevents the connector (Fig. 2) from being connected to a "conventional" electric vehicle. The opening (6) on the plug (Fig. 3) allows connection to a "conventional" or "dual-charge" charger. The user has the option of using the "dual charge" charger, a "conventional" charger, or home charging. [0016] The device according to the invention is particularly intended for the rapid charging of electric vehicle batteries equipped with two batteries.

Description

Title of the invention: Fast charging device for electric vehicles.

[0001] The present invention makes it possible to halve the charging of electric vehicles.

[0002] Manufacturers are installing increasingly larger capacity batteries to increase the range of their electric vehicles. The drawback of these "large" batteries is the charging time.

[0003] The charging power is always optimal at the beginning of charging, but decreases as charging progresses. This phenomenon is accentuated with "large" batteries. As a result, most users interrupt charging around 80% to be able to resume their journey as quickly as possible.

[0004] With lower capacity batteries, the phenomenon of decreasing charging power is less important, but the user has to stop more often to "recharge".

[0005] The device according to the invention overcomes this drawback. According to a first characteristic, it comprises a housing containing two charging units. The device includes either two independent batteries installed in the vehicle or one battery whose internal components have been divided into two independent modules. The device includes a connector equipped with a keying feature (5) to prevent connection to a "conventional" electric vehicle. The device includes a socket for vehicles equipped with these dual batteries, having an opening (6) for connecting the device. The device also includes an electronic housing for connecting or disconnecting the batteries in series, allowing them to be recharged using a "conventional" charger or at home. This unit includes a switching relay (a switch whose control is achieved by a different discharge voltage depending on whether it is connected to the invention or to a conventional charger).

[0006] According to particular embodiments, the charger housing can contain 4 charging units. For example, for a vehicle equipped with 4 electric motors (1 for each wheel and 1 battery per motor).

[0007] The attached drawings illustrate the invention.

[0008] ([Fig. 1]) With reference to these drawings, the device comprises an identical housing (1) In form and construction, it is similar to a classic charging case, and it includes 2 charging units (2).

[0009] ([Fig. 1]) With reference to these drawings, the device comprises a cable (3) containing the harnesses connecting the charger ([Fig.1]) to the connector ([Fig.2]).

[0010] ([Fig.2]) With reference to these drawings, the device comprises: a specific connector connected to the housing ([Fig. 1]). Identical in form and construction to a standard connector designed for use with an electric vehicle, its distinguishing feature is the keying mechanism (5) consisting of a protruding, cylindrical section designed specifically for this particular plug ([Fig. 3]). This keying mechanism prevents the connector from being used on "conventional" electric vehicles.

[0011] ([Fig.3]) With reference to these drawings, the device includes a specific socket identical in form and construction to the electrical outlets mounted on the

[0012] electric vehicles, its specific feature lies in a cylindrical opening (6) designed to receive the keying feature (5) of the connector ([Fig.2]). This socket allows charging with a "conventional" connector.

[0013] The device according to the invention is particularly intended for the rapid charging of electric vehicle batteries.
