Description

Title of the invention: Boring tool for a plastic pipe technical field

[0001] The invention relates to a boring tool for a plastic pipe.

[0002] It relates more particularly to a boring tool for boring the inside of a female end of a plastic pipe into which a male end of another plastic pipe is glued.

[0003] The invention finds a favorite, and not limiting, application in the field of plumbing, for the repair of a plastic pipe used for water supply or water drainage, and in particular a polyvinyl chloride or PVC pipe. Previous technique

[0004] It is known that two plastic pipes, and in particular two PVC pipes, can be joined end to end by gluing. To do this, the first plastic pipe has a so-called female end while the second plastic pipe has a so-called male end designed to be fitted inside the female end of the first pipe; the male end having an external diameter substantially equivalent to the internal diameter of the female end.

[0005] Before joining, the female end is coated internally with glue and / or the male end is coated externally with glue, so that the two ends are joined and glued together. This is referred to as a fitting between two pipes.

[0006] However, in the plumbing field, it is often necessary to repair leaks in such plastic pipes, and sometimes at a joint between two pipes. Such a repair sometimes requires cutting the two joined and glued ends, and then inserting a connecting sleeve; the two ends cannot, in fact, be separated from each other.

[0007] However, it is sometimes very problematic to cut the two fitted and glued ends, particularly due to the length available for the connecting sleeve.

[0008] Indeed, such a sectioning inevitably leads to shortening the two pipes, and once these two ends are cut, one of the two pipes may not have sufficient available length to receive a connecting sleeve, for example because of an elbow or a tee that is too close. [Summary]

[0009] The invention aims to address this problem by proposing a solution that avoids having to cut the two interlocking and glued ends.

[0010] To this end, the invention proposes a boring tool for a plastic pipe, comprising: - a body having successively a first cylindrical section and a second cylindrical section centered on a central axis, in which the first cylindrical section has a first diameter and the second cylindrical section has a second diameter that is smaller than the first diameter, and in which a notch is made in the body on the first cylindrical section and on the second cylindrical section; and - a cutting blade fixed on the first cylindrical section of the body, at the level of the notch, in which said cutting blade has a cutting edge substantially flush with a periphery of the first cylindrical section for a bore along substantially the first diameter; in which the first cylindrical section has a plate, opposite the second cylindrical section, and on which is provided a means for coupling with a tool, this coupling means being formed by a coupling shaft for coupling with a drill chuck, in which the coupling shaft has successively, starting from the plate: - a first hexagonal tree section having a first width; and - a second hexagonal tree section having a second width less than the first width; so that said coupling shaft is suitable for coupling with two chucks of different sizes.

[0011] Thus, a plumber will be able to cut the male end of the second plastic pipe flush with the female end of the first plastic pipe. A portion of the male end will then remain stuck inside the female end.

[0012] The plumber can then use the boring tool, starting by coupling it to a drill equipped with a chuck. The advantage is that it can be coupled to two chucks of different sizes, allowing the plumber to work with two separate drills and thus providing greater flexibility. The plumber then proceeds by inserting the second cylindrical section of the boring tool into this portion of the male end; the second diameter being substantially equivalent to the internal diameter of this male end. The second cylindrical section thus allows the boring tool to be centered.

[0013] The plumber can then operate the drill and thus rotate the boring tool, so that the cutting blade planes the portion of the male end; the first diameter, or boring diameter, being substantially equivalent to the diameter internal of the female end. By advancing the boring tool, the latter completely planes down the portion of the male end, so that in the end the female end essentially returns to its initial state, that is to say its state before the fitting and gluing of the other plastic pipe.

[0014] Thus, once the boring is complete, the female end of the first plastic pipe can again receive the male end of another plastic pipe.

[0015] Thanks to this boring tool, the plumber did not have to cut the first plastic pipe, which is advantageous if this first plastic pipe was too short and did not offer any available length for a connecting sleeve.

[0016] Furthermore, providing a coupling shaft with two consecutive hexagonal shaft sections of distinct widths allows for great adaptability in the choice of drill; it being noted that the width of a hexagonal shaft section corresponds to its width measured between two opposite and parallel lateral faces.

[0017] This embodiment is particularly advantageous because it allows several boring tools to be manufactured with the same coupling shaft for coupling with two drill chuck sizes, thus reducing manufacturing costs and bulk.

[0018] The cutting edge is substantially flush with the periphery of the first cylindrical section, in the sense that it is either flush with the periphery of the first cylindrical section or it protrudes at most one or two millimeters beyond the periphery of the first cylindrical section. Thus, this cutting edge allows boring along substantially the first diameter, that is to say, along the first diameter or along the first diameter increased by a maximum of one or two millimeters.

[0019] According to one feature, the coupling shaft is formed from the same material as the body to create a single, unified piece. Such a unified design results in a reliable and durable boring tool. Alternatively, the coupling shaft is welded to the body.

[0020] According to one possibility, the first hexagonal shaft section has a first length, and the second hexagonal shaft section has a second length which is equivalent to the first length plus or minus 5%.

[0021] Having equivalent or substantially equivalent lengths facilitates coupling on the chuck, without hindrance whether coupling with the first hexagonal shaft section or coupling with the second hexagonal shaft section.

[0022] According to another possibility, the first length is between 10 and 20 millimeters, and for example between 10 and 15 millimeters.

[0023] The invention also relates to a boring tool for a plastic pipe, comprising: - a body having successively a first cylindrical section and a second cylindrical section centered on a central axis, in which the first cylindrical section has a first diameter and the second cylindrical section has a second diameter that is smaller than the first diameter, and in which a notch is made in the body on the first cylindrical section and on the second cylindrical section; and - a cutting blade fixed on the first cylindrical section of the body, at the level of the notch, in which said cutting blade has a cutting edge substantially flush with a periphery of the first cylindrical section for a bore along substantially the first diameter; in which the first cylindrical section has a plate, opposite the second cylindrical section, and on which is provided a means for coupling with a tool, this means of coupling being formed by a tapped hole for coupling with a threaded rod of an angle grinder or disc grinder.

[0024] The plumber can then use the boring tool, as previously described, except that this time he can attach it to an angle grinder or disc grinder equipped with a threaded rod; such a threaded rod usually accepts a disc. In this way, if the plumber only has an angle grinder or disc grinder available, he can use it to operate his boring tool.

[0025] According to one feature, this boring tool includes a sleeve fixed securely to the plate and in which the tapped orifice is provided.

[0026] Thus, it is inside this sleeve that the threaded rod of the angle grinder or disc grinder is screwed.

[0027] According to another feature, the first width is 10 millimeters, and the second width is 13 millimeters.

[0028] According to one possibility, the body is made of a plastic material, a composite material, a resin-based material or a metallic material, such as aluminium.

[0029] According to another possibility, the body is a single piece.

[0030] Thanks to the realization of the boring tool, it is possible to design the body by molding, machining or 3D printing.

[0031] According to another feature, the first diameter and the second diameter are chosen from the following pairs of diameters, to within ±1 millimeter: - first diameter = 32 millimeters and second diameter = 25 millimeters; - first diameter = 40 millimeters and second diameter = 33 millimeters; - first diameter = 42.6 millimeters and second diameter = 50 millimeters; - first diameter = 50 millimeters and second diameter = 43 millimeters; - first diameter = 53.6 millimeters and second diameter = 63 millimeters; - first diameter = 63 millimeters and second diameter = 56 millimeters; - first diameter = 80 millimeters and second diameter = 73 millimeters; - first diameter = 90 millimeters and second diameter = 83 millimeters; - first diameter = 100 millimeters and second diameter = 93 millimeters; - first diameter = 110 millimeters and second diameter = 103 millimeters; - first diameter = 125 millimeters and second diameter = 118 millimeters; - first diameter = 160 millimeters and second diameter = 153 millimeters.

[0032] These dimensions are particularly suitable for the diameters of PVC pipes used to supply and drain water, as well as for PVC pressure pipes suitable for water supply systems, irrigation or industrial installations.

[0033] The invention also relates to a boring kit comprising several boring tools according to the invention, in which the first diameter of the first cylindrical section of each of the boring tools varies from one boring tool to another, the coupling means being identical in its form and dimensions between the boring tools.

[0034] According to one possibility, the several boring tools are those equipped with the coupling shaft with the two consecutive hexagonal shaft sections for a drill, and the coupling shaft is the same (same length, same dimensions) for each of the boring tools.

[0035] According to one possibility, the several boring tools are those equipped with the tapped hole for an angle grinder or disc grinder, and the tapped hole is the same (same diameter, same depth) for each of the boring tools.

[0036] Thus, thanks to the invention, the same tool (for example the same drill or the same angle grinder or disc grinder) can be used with all boring tools.

[0037] In a particular embodiment, the first diameter and the second diameter of at least two of the boring tools in the boring kit are chosen from the following pairs of diameters, to within ±1 millimeter: - first diameter = 32 millimeters and second diameter = 25 millimeters; - first diameter = 40 millimeters and second diameter = 33 millimeters; - first diameter = 42.6 millimeters and second diameter = 50 millimeters; - first diameter = 50 millimeters and second diameter = 43 millimeters; - first diameter = 53.6 millimeters and second diameter = 63 millimeters; - first diameter = 63 millimeters and second diameter = 56 millimeters; - first diameter = 80 millimeters and second diameter = 73 millimeters; - first diameter = 90 millimeters and second diameter = 83 millimeters; - first diameter = 100 millimeters and second diameter = 93 millimeters; - first diameter = 110 millimeters and second diameter = 103 millimeters; - first diameter = 125 millimeters and second diameter = 118 millimeters; - first diameter = 160 millimeters and second diameter = 153 millimeters. [0050] With reference to Figures 1 to 6, a boring tool 1 comprises a body 2 having successively a first cylindrical section 21 and a second cylindrical section 22 centered on a central axis 20. This body 2 is made in the form of a single piece, and it can be produced by machining, molding or 3D printing. This body 2 is, for example, made of a plastic material, a composite material, a resin-based material or a metallic material, such as aluminum or steel.

[0051] The first cylindrical section 21 has a first diameter DI for the boring tool 1 of [Fig. 1], D10 for the boring tool 1 of [Fig. 4] and D100 for the boring tool 1 of [Fig. 5]. The second cylindrical section 22 has a second diameter D2 for the boring tool 1 of [Fig. 1], D20 for the boring tool 1 of [Fig. 4] and D200 for the boring tool 1 of [Fig. 5].

[0052] Regardless of the boring tool 1, the second diameter D2 (respectively D20 or D200) is smaller than the first diameter DI (respectively D10 or D100).

[0053] In the example of [Fig.1], the first diameter DI is 32 millimeters and the second diameter D2 is 25 millimeters, plus or minus 1 millimeter for each diameter; an engraving #32 being provided on the body 2 to indicate the value of the first diameter.

[0054] In the example of [Fig.4], the first diameter D10 is 40 millimeters and the second diameter D20 is 33 millimeters, plus or minus 1 millimeter for each diameter; an engraving #40 being provided on the body 2 to indicate the value of the first diameter.

[0055] In the example of [Fig.5], the first diameter D100 is 100 millimeters and the second diameter D200 is 93 millimeters, plus or minus 1 millimeter for each diameter; an engraving #100 being provided on the body 2 to indicate the value of the first diameter.

[0056] A notch 23 is made in the body 2 on the first cylindrical section 21 and on the second cylindrical section 22. This notch 23 extends over the entire height of the body 2, and it is delimited by two faces 230, 231 which are perpendicular to each other, and which are both parallel to the central axis 20.

[0057] The first cylindrical section 21 has a flat plate 24 opposite the second cylindrical section 22. A coupling shaft 4, centered on the central axis 20, projects from the plate 24 and is formed from the body 2. This coupling shaft 4 has, successively from the plate 24: - a first hexagonal shaft section 41 having a first width Tl (see [Fig.3]); and - a second hexagonal shaft section 42 having a second width T2 (see [Fig.3]) less than the first width Tl.

[0058] Thus, this coupling shaft 4 forms a coupling means with a drill chuck and, thanks to the two sections 41, 42 of distinct widths, this coupling shaft 4 allows coupling to a first (large) chuck with the first hexagonal shaft section 41, and also to a second (small) chuck with the second hexagonal shaft section 42. In other words, this coupling shaft 4 is suitable for coupling with two chucks of different sizes.

[0059] With reference to [Fig. 2], the first hexagonal shaft section 41 has a first length L1, between 10 and 20 millimeters, and for example between 10 and 15 millimeters, and the second hexagonal shaft section 42 has a second length L2 which is equivalent to the first length L1 to within ±5%. These lengths L1, L2 are the same regardless of the boring tool 1.

[0060] With reference to [Fig. 3], the first width T1 can be 10 millimeters, and the second width T2 can be 13 millimeters, these widths T1 and T2 being suitable for the two standard chuck sizes. These widths T1 and T2 are the same regardless of the boring tool 1.

[0061] The boring tools 1 of Figures 1, 4 and 5 are of different sizes, since their diameters D1, D2, D10, D20, D100, D200 are distinct, but their coupling shafts 4 are all identical (same length, same dimensions). Indeed, these boring tools 1 of Figures 1, 4 and 5 belong to a boring kit comprising several boring tools 1 (including at least the three boring tools 1 of Figures 1, 4 and 5), in which the first diameter D1, D10, D100 of the first cylindrical section 21 of each of the boring tools 1 varies from one boring tool 1 to another, but the arrangement and shape (length, dimension, width) of the coupling shafts 4 are identical between the boring tools 1.

[0062] The boring tool 1 includes a cutting blade 3 (which is for example a carbide blade) which is fixed on the first cylindrical section 21 of the body 2, at the notch 23.

[0063] More specifically, the cutting blade 3 is fixed in a recess 28 in one of the sides 231 of the notch 23; this recess 28 being located at the interface between the first cylindrical section 21 and the second cylindrical section 22.

[0064] This cutting blade 3 is fixed by means of a screw 33 which is screwed into a tapped hole 27 opening into the housing 28, and also opening into the periphery of the first cylindrical section 21. The cutting blade 3 is identical between the boring tools 1.

[0065] This cutting blade 3 has a cutting edge 31 which is substantially flush with the periphery of the first cylindrical section 21 for a bore with a bore diameter that is substantially equivalent to the first diameter DI (or D10 or D100), that is to say, the bore diameter is equal to the first diameter DI (or D10 or D100) or is equal to the first diameter DI (or D10 or D100) increased by a maximum of one or two millimeters. This cutting edge 31 is parallel to the central axis 20.

[0066] This cutting blade 3 has another cutting edge 32 which is perpendicular to the cutting edge 31 and which extends in a radial direction over a given width which is greater than the gap between the first diameter DI (respectively D10 or D100) and the second diameter D2 (respectively D20 or D200).

[0067] In a variant illustrated in [Fig. 6], another boring tool 100 is similar to the boring tool 1 described above, comprising a body 2 having successively a first cylindrical section 21 and a second cylindrical section 22 centered on a central axis 20, and a cutting blade 3 fixed in a recess 28 in the notch 23. The difference is that this other boring tool 100 does not have the coupling shaft 4, but it has a tapped hole 5 formed in the plate 24 and centered on the central axis 20, to form a coupling means with a threaded rod of an angle grinder. Thus, this threaded rod of the angle grinder is screwed into the tapped hole 5, so as to then be able to rotate this boring tool 100.

[0068] As seen in [Fig.6], a sleeve 50 is fixed securely to the plate 24, and preferably this sleeve 50 is made of material with the body 2, and the threaded orifice 5 is formed at least in part in this sleeve 50.

[0069] This 100 boring tool can belong to a kit and thus be offered in several sizes, as in the example of [Fig.6] with two 100 boring tools of distinct sizes, one having the first diameter DI and the second diameter D2, and the other having the first diameter D10 and the second diameter D20.

[0070] The remainder of the description relates to the use of the boring tool 1 by an operator, such as a plumber, with reference to figures 7 to 11.

[0071] With reference to [Fig. 7], initially there are two plastic pipes 8, 9, such as two PVC pipes, which are joined end to end by gluing. The first plastic pipe 8 has a female end 80 while the second plastic pipe 9 has a male end 90 inserted and glued inside the female end 80 of the first plastic pipe 8.

[0072] The male end 90 has an external diameter DEXT substantially equivalent to the internal diameter of the female end 80, and furthermore the male end 90 has an internal diameter DINT.

[0073] With reference to [Fig.8], the plumber cuts the male end 90 of the second plastic pipe 9 flush with the female end 80 of the first plastic pipe 8. There then remains a portion of the male end 90 stuck inside the female end 80, and it is this portion of the male end 90 that the boring tool 1 will be able to remove.

[0074] With reference to [Fig.9], the plumber chooses one of the boring tools 1 from his boring kit, selecting the boring tool 1 whose first diameter DI is equivalent to the external diameter DEXT of the male end 90, and whose second diameter D2 is equivalent to the internal diameter DINT of this male end 90.

[0075] The plumber fixes the boring tool 1 onto the drill chuck 7 by coupling the coupling shaft 4 onto this chuck 7. In the illustrated example, it is the second hexagonal shaft section 42 that is mounted in the chuck 7.

[0076] If the plumber used one of the boring tools 100 of [Fig.6], he would then have fixed the boring tool 100 onto the angle grinder or disc grinder, by screwing its threaded rod into the tapped hole 5.

[0077] Next, the plumber fits the second cylindrical section 22 inside the portion of the male end 90, thus centering the boring tool 1.

[0078] With reference to [Fig. 10], the plumber operates the drill to rotate the boring tool 1, so that the cutting blade 3 planes the portion of the male end 90, while advancing the boring tool 1 inside the first plastic pipe 8, until the boring tool 1 completely planes the portion of the male end 90.

[0079] With reference to [Fig. 11], at the end of the operation and after removing the boring tool 1, the female end 80 of the first plastic pipe 8 has substantially returned to its initial state, i.e. its state before the fitting and gluing of the second plastic pipe 2. Thus, this female end 80 can again receive the male end of another plastic pipe.
