[0001] The present disclosure relates to a power module for a work machine and a method of manufacturing the work machine. Background

[0002] With advancement in technology, battery systems and fuel cells are increasingly used to provide operating power to operate various work machines. Further, it may be desirable to replace conventional power sources, such as a diesel engine, on work machines with a power module having a battery system and a fuel cell. However, incorporation of such power modules in existing work machines may be challenging from the perspective of assembling and packaging of the power modules. In some examples, the power modules may be difficult to service / maintain, and may require longer cost and efforts to package individual components of the power module. Further, it may be challenging to retrofit power modules with the battery system and the fuel cell on existing work machines, as such power modules may have different size and shape.

The housing defines a first side and a second side. The power module also includes a fuel cell removably received within the housing proximate to the first side of the housing. [0013] Referring to FIG. 1, a schematic side view of an exemplary work machine 100 is illustrated. In the illustrated example of FIG. 1, the work machine 100 is a track type tractor. In alternate examples, the work machine 100 may include a grader, a loader, a dozer, a compactor, an excavator, a forklift, a shovel, and the like, without any limitations. The work machine 100 may perform one or more work operations associated with an industry, such as, mining, construction, farming, transportation, or any other industry known in the art.

The work machine 100 also includes an operator cabin 108. An operator of the work machine 100 may be seated within the operator cabin 108 to perform one or more work operations. [0018] Referring to FIG. 2, a schematic view of the power module 200 for the work machine 100 of FIG. 1 is illustrated. The power module 200 includes a mounting structure 202. The mounting structure 202 includes a housing 204. The housing 204 defines a first side 206 and a second side 208. The housing 204 further defines a third side 210 (see FIGS. 3 and 4) and a fourth side 212 (see FIGS. 3 and 4). A material of the mounting structure 202 may be chosen such that the mounting structure 202 may be able to withstand weight of various components of the power module 200. The coolant heat exchangers 218, 219 may maintain a temperature of a coolant flowing through the fuel cell stack. The power module 200 further includes a coolant pump 220 and a coolant manifold 222. The planar section 276 is spaced apart from the underside 266 of the base 234. It should be noted that the design of the first support 264 as described herein is exemplary in nature and the first support 264 may include any other design or combination of components to serve the intended purpose.

Specifically, the mounting structure 202 includes two first vibration isolators 278 that are disposed adjacent to each other. Claims

What is claimed is:

1. A power module for a work machine, the power module comprising:a mounting structure including a housing, the housing defining a first side and a second side;a fuel cell removably received within the housing proximate to the first side of the housing;a battery module removably received within the housing, wherein the battery module is disposed adjacent to the fuel cell along a longitudinal direction;a drive assembly disposed external to the housing and removably coupled with the housing proximate to the second side thereof;a drive motor disposed external to the housing and removably coupled with the housing via the drive assembly; andone or more pumps disposed external to the housing and removably coupled with the housing via the drive assembly.

2. The power module of claim 1, wherein the housing defines a first height, the fuel cell defines a second height, and the battery module defines a third height, and wherein each of the second height and the third height is greater than the first height.

3. The power module of claim 1, wherein the housing is rectangular in shape.

4. The power module of claim 1, wherein the housing includes a housing frame, and a base configured to support each of the fuel cell and the battery module, wherein the housing frame defines a first portion to removably receive the fuel cell and a second portion to removably receive the battery module, and wherein the first portion is separated from the second portion by a divider.

5. The power module of claim 4, wherein the mounting structure further includes a first support configured to removably couple the power module with a frame of the work machine, and wherein the first support is removably coupled to an underside of the base of the housing.

6. The power module of claim 5, wherein the mounting structure further includes one or more first vibration isolators disposed between the first support and the frame of the work machine.

7. The power module of claim 5, further comprising a coolant pump and a coolant manifold removably coupled with the housing at the underside of the base, wherein the coolant pump and the coolant manifold are disposed adjacent to the first support along the longitudinal direction.

8. The power module of claim 5, further comprising one or more coolant heat exchangers removably coupled with the housing at the underside of the base, wherein the one or more coolant heat exchangers are disposed adjacent to the first support along the longitudinal direction.

9. The power module of claim 4, wherein at least a portion of the drive assembly extends beyond the base of the housing along a vertical direction.

10. The power module of claim 4, wherein the mounting structure further includes one or more first couplers configured to removably couple the fuel cell with the housing frame.

11. The power module of claim 4, wherein the mounting structure further includes one or more brackets configured to removably couple the drive assembly with the housing frame.

12. The power module of claim 1, wherein the mounting structure further includes one or more second supports configured to removably couple thepower module with a frame of the work machine, and wherein the one or more second supports are coupled with the drive assembly.

13. The power module of claim 12, wherein the mounting structure further includes one or more second vibration isolators disposed between the one or more second supports and the drive assembly.

14. The power module of claim 1, further comprising a power distribution unit coupled with the battery module.

15. The power module of claim 1, wherein the one or more pumps includes a first pump coupled to the drive assembly and a second pump coupled to the drive assembly separately from the first pump along a lateral direction.

16. A method of manufacturing a work machine, the method comprising: assembling a power module that includes:a mounting structure including a housing, the housing defining a first side and a second side;a fuel cell removably received within the housing proximate to the first side of the housing;a battery module removably received within the housing, wherein the battery module is disposed adjacent to the fuel cell along a longitudinal direction;a drive assembly disposed external to the housing and removably coupled with the housing proximate to the second side thereof;a drive motor disposed external to the housing and removably coupled with the housing via the drive assembly; andone or more pumps disposed external to the housing and removably coupled with the housing via the drive assembly; andattaching the power module with a frame of the work machine.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the step of attaching the power module with the frame of the work machine further includes removably couplingthe housing of the mounting structure with the frame of the work machine via a first support.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the step of attaching the power module with the frame of the work machine further includes disposing one or more first vibration isolators between the first support and the frame of the work machine.

19. The method of claim 16, wherein the step of attaching the power module with the frame of the work machine further includes removably coupling the drive assembly of the power module with the frame of the work machine via one or more second supports.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the step of attaching the power module with the frame of the work machine further includes disposing one or more second vibration isolators between the one or more second supports and the drive assembly.
