The following description is, therefore, not to be taken in a limiting sense.
[0031] Fig. 1 shows a schematic block diagram according to an embodiment of an electronic computing device 10 for generating a recall message 12 for a motor vehicle 14.
[0032] According to an embodiment of the invention a recall information 16 for the motor vehicle 14 is received by the electronic computing device 10 from a recall platform 18. The recall message 12 is generated depending on the recall information 16 by the electronic computing device 10. The generated recall message 12 is transmitted to a display device 22 of the motor vehicle 14 for displaying the recall message 12 by the electronic computing device 10.
[0033] According to an embodiment, the electronic computing device 10 compares the recall information with already computed actions of the motor vehicle.
[0034] In another embodiment upon each ignition of the motor vehicle 14 the comparison is performed.
[0035] In another embodiment just the recall information 16 concerning the motor vehicle 14 is received by the electronic computing device 10.
[0036] In another embodiment the electronic computing device 10 is filtering the recall information 16 such that just the recall information 16 concerning to the motor vehicle 14 is taken into consideration for generating the recall message 12.
[0037] In particular Fig. 1 shows, that the recall platform 18 may be connected to a data server or a database 20 comprising a plurality of recall information 16 for a plurality of different motor vehicles 14.
[0038] Furthermore it is shown, that for example after receiving the recall information 16 and / or after generating the recall message 12 the electronic computing device 10 may be configured to set an appointment or provide an option to set an appointment at a workshop 30 for performing recall actions of the motor vehicle 14.
[0039] Furthermore Fig. 1 shows a mobile phone 24, which may be for example the mobile phone 24 of an owner of the motor vehicle 14, an owner's website 26 as well as an OEM website 28. The recall information 16 may also be transmitted to the mobile phone 24, to the owner's website 26 and to the OEM's website 28.
[0040] According to the shown embodiment the recall platform 18 may be a central web service. It interacts with the data server or database 20 that has all the vehicle information and all the appropriate recall unique identifiers. It also may handle all the API calls from the motor vehicle 14, mobile applications, both owner / admin websites 26, 28 and other services. The display device 22 may be used to display the API calls results, for example the recall and service details, in a user-friendly manner on the motor vehicle 14. Furthermore, an application may have a page or section that is used to display the recalls for their specific motor vehicle 14 or particular parts of their motor vehicle 14. The owner's webpage 26 may have a page that the user can also view the recall and service details based on these API results.
[0041] The motor vehicle 14 the electronic computing device 10 may have a digital application as part of the infotainment system that displays the history of all the recalls, for example at a head unit display, whether each of these recalls has been serviced on this vehicle, and the actual service state for each of the recalls. The owner may use the application on the head unit display to locate a nearby service center, in particular the workshop 30, to schedule a service appointment. The application stores the service state and time and will remind the vehicle owner for the appointment at the predefined reminder notification time.
[0042] Upon each vehicle's start up cycle, in particular after each ignition, the electronic computing device 10 may communicate with the recall platform 18 to get any new recall information 16, and notifies the vehicle owner on the display device 20 of any new recalls, and may remind the vehicle owner periodically until each recall item has been serviced. In addition, while the motor vehicle 14 is on, the motor vehicle 14 may periodically communicate with the recall platform 18 for any new recall information 16. The interval may be configurable, for example every one hour. A push notification from the recall platform 18 to the motor vehicle 14 may not be used because unlike a cellphone, the motor vehicle 14 is not a device that is kept in the “on” mode nearly all the time, so it may be harder at times to reach the motor vehicle 14. Furthermore, upon each startup of the motor vehicle 14, the recall information 16 is already retrieved so that the owner has the latest information before even driving off. Furthermore, by having the motor vehicle check at a predefined rate allows the motor vehicle 14 to better control the flow of data to not overwhelm its computation resources.
[0043] When a recall has been serviced by the workshop 30 on the local motor vehicle 14, the appropriate service date may be updated and stored locally on the motor vehicle 14.
[0044] The vehicle owner may also access this information through a mobile application or using a computer to access the recall platform 18.
[0045] The vehicle maker (OEM) may have an admin web service that they can use to add new recalls into the database 20. signs Electronic computing device Recall message Motor vehicle Recall information Recall platform database Display device Mobile phone Owner's webpage OEM's webpage workshop
