A refrigerator appliance

Abstract

A refrigerator 200 comprises a cuboid cabinet 201 formed from side 203, back 202, top and bottom walls, and a door 207 at a front of the cabinet; and wherein a support beam 208 extends across the front of the cabinet and comprises a light source 214 arranged to cast light in a direction X-X’ non-parallel (angular) to the back wall of the cabinet and illuminates the cabinet. The support beam may comprise an external surface 211 parallel to the back wall, a light mounting surface 212, a recess 213 for receiving the light source, a trapezoidal projection 215 extending into the cabinet and having an angled side 216 so light is not blocked. The projection provides structural support and a location for fastening a shelf thereto. The beam may comprise of a shell 209 (metallic or thermoplastic) and foam core 210. A plurality of light sources may be used and may be an LED strip. The refrigerator may comprise a plurality of beams and define a door closure surface.
