Abstract
An aircraft (1,2,Fig.1) selects a destination airfield (A,B,Fig.1). E.g. the aircraft may send a message to a remote server (OK2LAND database, Fig.1) indicating an intention to land at the airfield and the server may generate preset criteria for that airfield. At intervals, fight data (including GPS and optionally speed and height data) is read and compared with the preset criteria to determine the aircraft’s landing status. If the comparison confirms that the aircraft has landed, then landing log data is generated for the airfield, e.g. for automatic landing fee billing. The comparison may determine whether the aircraft is within a preset range of each of a series of five locations on the approach to and along a runway; its height and speed at each location; and whether it is above or below stalling speed. This distinguishes between an aircraft landing and overflying aircraft (Fig.3).
