AI Technical Summary
In cellular communication systems, the sharing of CSI-RS resources among multiple UEs leads to inefficient use of downlink resources, particularly when UE-specific CSI-RS resources are used, resulting in increased overhead.
The apparatuses and methods involve determining the availability of resources for transmitting measurement reports and adjusting operations based on resource unavailability, including refraining from transmission, dropping reports, or delaying them until resources become available, thereby optimizing resource use.
This approach optimizes the use of downlink resources by managing CSI-RS resource sharing among UEs, reducing overhead and improving communication efficiency.

Abstract
Description
FIELDS

[0060] In some mechanisms, in order to save on DL resources, the gNB would try to use cell-specific or group-specific CSI-RS resources. The worst case of DL overhead is with UE specific CSI-RS where the DL overhead increases linearly with the number of UEs in the cell.
[0061] CSI-RS has many functions in NR, including but not limited to CSI-RS for DL CSI acquisition, CSI-RS for beam management (BM) (based on layer one (LI)-reference signal received power (RSRP)), CSI-RS for tracking (TRS), uplink (UL) CSI acquisition in reciprocity-based UL precoding, or the like. In some applications (e.g., CSI-RS for BM), CSI-RS are spatially beamformed into different directions.
[0062] In general, a UE may be configured with up to 48 report configurations (CSI-ReportConfig) per component carrier (CC) or 4 per bandwidth part (BWP). One CSI resource config within 1 report configuration may be configured with up to 16 resource sets (aperiodic CSI) and 1 resource set (otherwise). In each CSI resource set up to 64 non-zero power (NZP) CSI-RS resources and 1 NZP-CSI-RS resource up to 32 antenna ports.
[0063] For CSI acquisition, the UE is configured also with a codebook type. Given the measured channel across a CSI-RS resource, the UE may choose a favorite codeword from the specified codebook, i.e., precoding matrix indicator (PMI), along with channel quality indicator (CQI), rank indicator (RI). UE may also be configured to measure several CSI-RS resources (up to 8) within a resource set and report the favorite resource, CSI-RS resource indicator (CRI), along with PMI, CQI and RI which corresponds to that selected resource.
[0064] In the time domain, a CSI-RS resource may start at any orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol of a slot and it spans 1, 2, or 4 OFDM symbols depending on the number of ports configured. Likewise, also the UE measurement reporting of CSI may be also operated with periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic manner, which is so-called report types in new radio (NR) report configuration. However, there are certain limitations, based on which the UE periodic report can operate only based on the configured periodic CSI-RS resource-set, the UE semi-persistent report can operate based on both configured periodic and semi-persistent CSI-RS resource-set, and finally the UE aperiodic report can operate based on all periodic, semi-persistent, and aperiodic CSI-RS resource-set. Shortly said: the periodic CSI-RS resources can be used to generate any report type, the semi-persistent and periodic CSI-RS resources can be used to generate semi-persistent CSI reports, and the aperiodic CSI-RS can only be utilized only to generate the aperiodic report.
[0065] In frequency-granularity, the CSI Report Setting also defines which part of the bandwidth the CSI should correspond to, and in addition, what granularity in frequency the CSI should have. To accomplish this, the bandwidth of a BWP is divided into a number of subbands.
[0066] All CSI-RS resources within one set are configured with same density and same nrofPorts, except for the NZP CSI-RS resources used for interference measurement.
[0067] For semi-persistent and aperiodic CSI-RS, the actual triggering of CSI-RS transmission is per CSI-RS resource-set via either medium access control control element (MAC CE) or downlink control information (DCI). In addition, a resource set may be used as part of UE report configurations describing what to be measured and, correspondingly, which measurement reporting are to be done by the UE. Specifically, if a CSI-RS resource-set is configured as ‘aperiodic’ by RRC, the CSI-RS resource set configuration includes a slot offset, aperi odicTriggeringOffset which defines the time interval between the triggering DCI and the CSI-RS transmission.
[0068] For A-CSI reporting up to 16 different reporting settings may be triggered with single DCI (e.g. for multiple component carriers) while semi-persistent (SP)-CSI reporting can trigger only one report setting with a single DCI. In order to trigger several SP-CSI reports (each in different slots), multiple DCIs are needed.
[0069] CSI report may have different contents, for Type I and Type II CSI feedback on PUSCH, a CSI report comprises of two parts. Part 1 has a fixed payload size and is used to identify the number of information bits in Part 2. Part 1 shall be transmitted in its entirety before Part 2. For Type I CSI feedback, Part 1 contains RI (if reported), CRI (if reported), CQI for the first codeword. Part 2 contains PMI (if reported), LI (if reported), and contains the CQI for the second codeword when RI (if reported) is larger than 4. For Type II CSI feedback, Part 1 contains RI (if reported), CQI, and an indication of the number of non-zero wideband amplitude coefficients per layer for the Type II CSI. The fields of Part 1 - RI (if reported), CQI, and the indication of the number of non-zero wideband amplitude coefficients for each layer - are separately encoded. Part 2 contains the PMI of the Type II CSI. Part 1 and 2 are separately encoded.
[0070] Note that the precoder matrices W in Type-I and release (Rei)-15 Type-II codebooks may be described as being decomposed into two matrix factors which are each matrix factor such that W(ii, iz) = Wi(ii) W2O2), where Wi is precoder matrix targeting the long-term channel which is selected on a wide-band basis while W2 targets the short-term / frequency-selective properties of the channel and can be reported on a per-subband basis.
[0071] In some mechanisms, supports for both UE non-group and group-based beam reporting schemes are supported. Network may configure up to four CRIs or beams with Ll-RSRP values to be reported (via physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) or physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH)).
[0072] In Rei-17, a unified transmission configuration indicator (TCI) framework was introduced, meaning that TCI states so far providing Quasi Co-Location (QCL) assumptions for the reception of DL signals and channels would be used also to provide spatial sources for the transmission of UL signals and channels to determine UL TX spatial filter.
[0073] Furthermore, the unified TCI framework defines the concept of activated codepoints and indicated TCI states. The activated codepoints contains a subset of the configured TCI states of up to 8 joint UL / DL configured TCI states or up to 8 separate DL and UL configured TCI states. The gNB may indicate which of the activated codepoints to use by indicating a particular codepoint to the UE in DCI.
[0074] One or multiple (in case of multi- transmission reception point (TRP) for instance) of the configured TCI states is / are indicated TCI state(s) at a time. The indicated TCI state can be joint DL and UL TCI state or separate DL and separate UL TCI states. Indicated TCI state provides QCL source (DL) and spatial source (UL) for the set of downlink signals and channels and for the set of uplink signals and channels, respectively. In Rel-17 there may be one indicated joint DL / UL TCI state, or one indicated DL and one indicated UL TCI state for the UE. Unified TCI framework is extended in Rei-18 so that there may be multiple indicated DL and UL TCI states.
[0075] In some mechanisms, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) scope is specified. One of the objectives, which is on UE initiated beam reporting, is copied below: Specify enhancement to facilitate UE-initiated / event-driven beam management for reducing overhead and / or latency, assuming the unified TCI while leveraging (as much as possible) legacy CSI measurement and reporting configuration frameworks, targeting FR2 and single TRP (sTRP) with intra-cell and inter-cell beam management. UL signaling content(s) (and procedure(s) as required) for UE-initiated / event-driven beam reporting facilitating fast beam switching. UL signaling medium / container considering the UE-initiated / event-driven nature of the UL transmission, designed primarily for the purpose of beam reporting.
[0076] On beam report transmission procedure for UE-initiated / event-driven beam reporting, following modes are supported: > Mode A (dynamically scheduling uplink control information (UCI) by gNB): Step 1: UE transmits a first PUCCH (one-bit / multi-bit) to request a resource for a second UL channel to carry beam report Step 2: UE detects the DCI format to indicate a resource for a second UL channel to carry beam report. Step 3: Beam report is transmitted in second UL channel. This mode is basic UE capability (i.e. all UE supporting UE-initiated / event-driven beam reporting should support this feature). No new DCI format is introduced. > Mode B (UCI in pre-configured resource(s) for second UL channel): Step 1: UE transmits a first PUCCH (one-bit / multi-bit) notifying a second UL channel to carry beam report Step 2: UE transmits the beam report in the second UL channel. The notification in Stepl is in a separate reporting instance from the beam report in Step 2. For above procedures, cross-CC beam reporting is supported for both modes.
[0077] On UE-initiated / event-driven beam reporting, regarding trigger-event detection for beam reporting, at least support Event-2: Quality of at least one new beam, such as Ll-RSRP, becomes a threshold value better than the current beam. At least Ll-RSRP is supported as quality metrics used for Event-2.
[0078] Regarding RS measurement for the new beam for Event-2, down-select one or more of the following: Option-3a (explicit manner): the RS(s) for new beam(s) are explicitly configured by RRC (e.g., reusing legacy configuration of RS measurement or in TCLState) or MAC-CE. Option-3b (implicit manner): the RS(s) for new beam(s) are implicitly derived from QCL RS(s) of activated TCI state(s). Option-3c (implicit manner): the RS(s) for new beam(s) are implicitly derived from QCL RS(s) of configured TCI state(s). Other trigger events / quality metrics (e.g., Ll-SINR) are not precluded. For above implicit manner(s), if there are two QCL RSs in a TCI state, the measurement RS is derived from RS w.r.t. QCL-TypeD, if applicable.
[0079] On UE-initiated / event-driven beam reporting, regarding Event-2, the threshold value is RRC configured. On UE-initiated / event-driven beam reporting, regarding Event-2, ‘current beam’ is a beam corresponding to the indicated TCI state.
[0080] Regarding RS measurement for the current beam for Event-2, Option-2a is supported: Option-2a (implicit manner): The RS for current beam is implicitly derived from a QCL RS of indicated TCI state. Note: synchronization signal block (SSB) or CSI-RS can be configured.
[0081] On UE-initiated / event-driven beam reporting, regarding UL signaling content(s) of Ll-RSRP report depending on Event-2, in a report instance, at least Option-3 is supported: Option-3: N >1 beam(s) are reported in the report instance. At least one of N reported beam(s) should satisfy the condition of Event-2. N is configured by gNB. Above applies at least for the single CC case.
[0082] Regarding RS measurement for the current beam for Event 2, for Option-2a, support the both schemes as follows. Scheme-1: RS for current beam is the QCL RS in the indicated TCI state. Scheme-2: the RS for current beam is the SSB which is QCLed with the QCL RS in the indicated TCI state. Enabling one of either Scheme-1 or Scheme-2 is selected by NW. Enabling of either Scheme-1 or Scheme-2 should ensure the same RS type for RS measurement for current beam and new beam. The above QCL RS is the RS w.r.t. QCL-TypeD, if there are two QCL RSs in the indicated TCI state.
[0083] Regarding RS measurement for the new beam for Event 2, at least Option-3 a is supported. Option-3a (explicit manner): The RS(s) for new beam(s) are explicitly configured. Option-3b: The RS(s) for new beam(s) are implicitly derived from QCL RS(s) of activated TCI state(s). Option-3c: The RS(s) for new beam(s) are implicitly derived from QCL RS(s) of TCI state(s) in a configured subset of the legacy RRC-configured TCI state list.
[0084] On UE-initiated / event-driven beam reporting, regarding Ll-RSRP report format Option-3 depending on Event-2, for a report instance where N >1 beam(s) are reported, the following is supported. Radio resource control (RRC) may enable or disable whether current beam is always reported. When enabled by RRC, the current beam + N beams from the measurement RSs for new beam(s) are reported. The reported current beam is NOT counted in the N reported beams. When disabled by RRC, N beams are reported.
[0085] On beam report transmission procedure for UE-initiated / event-driven beam reporting, regarding Mode-A, the DCI format in Step-2 comprises UL-grant DCI format, and the second channel in Step-3 is at least PUSCH. The UL-grant DCI format at least comprises DCI format 01 / 0 2. 1 -bit field in the DL-grant DCI format is introduced to indicate the transmission of the UEI beam report. The PUCCH resource for hybrid automatic repeat request-acknowledgement (HARQ-ACK) transmission may be reused to carry both the HARQ-ACK and UEI beam report. The DL-grant DCI format at least comprises DCI format 11 / 12.
[0086] Regarding the triggering event determination for Event 2: if within a time window (which is configurable), the number of Event-2 instance(s) for at least one same new beam is greater than or equal to a configurable number M, UE initiated beam report occurs. Event-2 instance for a new beam is determined if the Ll-RSRP of the new beam becomes a threshold value better than the current beam. Above feature is subject to UE capability. Basic feature may be that once the Ll-RSRP of the new beam becomes a threshold value better than the current beam, UE initiated beam report occurs.
[0087] Regarding explicit RS configuration for new beam measurement for Event 2, down-select the following options: Option-1: The RS(s) for new beam(s) are explicitly configured in one RS resource set associated with an CSI reporting configuration; Option-2: A list of RS(s) for new beam measurement can be configured by RRC, and a subset can be activated for new beam measurement by MAC-CE; and Option-3: A list of RS resource (s) for new beam measurement can be configured by RRC, and a subset of RS resource(s) in the list can be provided for new beam measurement by indicated TCI state. Others are not precluded.
[0088] As mentioned, Rel-19 MIMO scope includes an objective on UE initiated beam / CSI reporting. Specifically, in contrast to legacy, under event-based (or UE-triggered) CSI, the UE needs to first request UL resource if the at least one event has occurred so that the network grants the UE UL resource(s) for CSI reporting, or the UE notifies the network that the at least one event has occurred and then the UE can directly access some preconfigured UL resource(s) for CSI reporting. To determine whether to send the request / notification, the UE would need to first perform measurements based on DL reference signals (RSs).
[0089] On other hand, UE may be configured with cell DRX (discontinuous reception) where the UE may not be allowed to transmit at least some signals / channels. And This could impact UE initiated / centric CSI / beam reporting. More generally, some of the required transmission(s) for the UE-initiated CSI / beam reporting couldn’t be transmitted e.g., due to overlap with non-active period of cell DRX, with DL symbols, and / or with a higher priority UL channel or signal.
[0090] However, for UE initiated beam / CSI reporting, some of the corresponding at least one UL transmission would overlap with other configuration or channels.
[0091] In order to solve at least part of the above problems or other potential problems, a solution on UE-triggered measurement reporting is proposed. According to example embodiments, a first apparatus (such as a terminal device) determines whether a first resource is available for transmitting a message associated with a measurement report to a second apparatus (such as a network device). The message comprises at least one of: a notification of the measurement report, a request for a second resource for the measurement report, or an indication indicative of at least one event related to measurement reporting occurring. If the first resource is unavailable for the message, the first apparatus performs at least one operation associated with the measurement report, the at least one operation being configured by the second apparatus, or predefined.
[0092] In this manner, the first apparatus may deal with the situation where the first resource being overlapped with for example other data or channels. For example, these operations to deal with such situation may be configured by the second apparatus or predefined in a standard or specification.
[0093] In order to solve at least part of the above problems or other potential problems, another solution on UE-triggered measurement reporting is proposed. According to example embodiments, a first apparatus (such as a terminal device) determines whether a first resource is available for transmitting a notification associated with a measurement report to a second apparatus. The notification indicates at least one of at least one event for measurement reporting occurring, or the measurement report to be transmitted in a second resource. If the first resource is unavailable for the notification, perform at least one operation comprising at least one of: refraining from transmitting the measurement report in the second resource; dropping or stopping a measurement corresponding to the measurement report; dropping the transmission of the notification; transmitting the notification in the first resource; transmitting the notification in a third resource available for the notification, the third resource being after the first resource; holding at least one of the transmission of the notification or the transmission of the measurement report for a time duration, or dropping at least one of the notification or the measurement report after the time duration.
[0094] In this manner, the first apparatus may be configured or predefined to perform an appropriate operation in the cases where the first resource is unavailable for transmitting the notification. The UE-triggered measurement reporting for mode B can thus be enhanced.
[0095] In order to solve at least part of the above problems or other potential problems, another solution on UE-triggered measurement reporting is proposed. According to example embodiments, a first apparatus (such as a terminal device) determines whether a first resource is available for transmitting a request for a second resource for transmitting a measurement report to a second apparatus. If the first resource is unavailable for the request, perform at least one operation comprising at least one of: refraining from transmitting the measurement report in the second resource; dropping or stopping a measurement corresponding to the measurement report; refraining from monitoring a response of the request from the second apparatus, the response including an indication or configuration of the second resource; dropping the transmission of the request; transmitting the request in a third resource available for the notification, the third resource being after the first resource; holding the transmission of the request for a time duration, or dropping the request after the time duration
[0096] In this manner, the first apparatus may be configured or predefined to perform an appropriate operation in the cases where the first resource is unavailable for transmitting the request. The UE-triggered measurement reporting for mode A can thus be enhanced.
[0097] In order to solve at least part of the above problems or other potential problems, another solution on UE-triggered measurement reporting is proposed. According to example embodiments, a first apparatus (such as a terminal device) determines that a first resource is available for a notification associated with a measurement report to a second apparatus. The notification indicates at least one of: at least one event for measurement reporting occurring, or the measurement report to be transmitted in a second resource. If the second resource is unavailable for transmitting the measurement report, the first apparatus performs at least one operation comprising at least one of: refraining from including the measurement report in a transmission of the second resource; refraining from transmitting the notification; transmitting the measurement report in the second resource; transmitting the notification in a third resource available for the notification, the third resource being after the first resource; transmitting the measurement report in a fourth resource available for the measurement report, the fourth resource being after the second resource; holding the measurement report for a time duration; or dropping the measurement report after the time duration.
[0098] In this manner, the first apparatus may deal with the situation where the second resource for the measurement report being overlapped with for example other data or channels. For example, these operations to deal with such situation may be configured by the second apparatus or predefined in a standard or specification.
[0099] Principle and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to FIGS. 1-15.
[0100] FIG. 1 illustrates an example communication environment 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. In the communication environment 100, a plurality of communication devices, including a first apparatus 110 and a second apparatus 120, can communicate with each other.
[0101] In the example of FIG. 1, the first apparatus 110 may include a terminal device and the second apparatus 120 may include a network device serving the terminal device. The serving area of the second apparatus 120 may be called as a cell 102.
[0102] It is to be understood that the number of devices and their connections shown in FIG. 1 are only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitation. The communication environment 100 may include any suitable number of devices configured to implementing example embodiments of the present disclosure. Although not shown, it would be appreciated that one or more additional devices may be located in the cell 102, and one or more additional cells may be deployed in the communication environment 100. It is noted that although illustrated as a network device, the second apparatus 120 may be another device than a network device. Although illustrated as a terminal device, the first apparatus 110 may be a device other than a terminal device.
[0103] In the following, for the purpose of illustration, some example embodiments are described with the first apparatus 110 operating as a terminal device and the second apparatus 120 operating as a network device. However, in some example embodiments, operations described in connection with a terminal device may be implemented at a network device or other device, and operations described in connection with a network device may be implemented at a terminal device or other device.
[0104] In some example embodiments, if the first apparatus 110 is a terminal device and the second apparatus 120 is a network device, a link from the second apparatus 120 to the first apparatus 110 is referred to as a downlink (DL), while a link from the first apparatus 110 to the second apparatus 120 is referred to as an uplink (UL). In DL, the second apparatus 120 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the first apparatus 110 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver). In UL, the first apparatus 110 is a TX device (or a transmitter) and the second apparatus 120 is a RX device (or a receiver).
[0105] Communications in the communication environment 100 may be implemented according to any proper communication protocol(s), comprising, but not limited to, cellular communication protocols of the first generation (1G), the second generation (2G), the third generation (3G), the fourth generation (4G), the fifth generation (5G), the sixth generation (6G), and the like, wireless local network communication protocols such as Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 and the like, and / or any other protocols currently known or to be developed in the future. Moreover, the communication may utilize any proper wireless communication technology, comprising but not limited to: Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA), Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), Frequency Division Duplex (FDD), Time Division Duplex (TDD), Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO), Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple (OFDM), Discrete Fourier Transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM) and / or any other technologies currently known or to be developed in the future.
[0106] FIG. 2 illustrates a flowchart of a method 200 for measurement reporting triggered by a first apparatus such as the first apparatus 110 according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The method 200 may be implemented at the first apparatus 110. For the purpose of discussion, the method 200 will be described from the perspective of the first apparatus 110 in FIG. 1.
[0107] At block 210, the first apparatus 110 determines whether a first resource (also referred to as a first channel) is available for transmitting a message associated with a measurement report to the second apparatus 120. The message includes at least one of: a notification of the measurement report, a request for a second resource for the measurement report, or an indication indicative of at least one event related to measurement reporting occurring. For example, the first resource may be a first PUCCH. The second resource may be a second PL CCH or a PUSCH after the first PUCCH. As used herein, the measurement report may refer to a beam report and / or a CSI report. It is to be understood that in some example embodiments, the measurement report may also refer to any other suitable measurement report. Scope of the present disclosure is not limited here.
[0108] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 110 may determine whether at least one event related to measurement reporting occurs. If the at least one event related to measurement reporting occurs, at block 210, the first apparatus 110 may determine whether the first resource is available for transmitting the message associated with the measurement reporting.
[0109] By way of example, the at least one event related to measurement reporting may include Event-2, where quality of at least one new beam, such as Ll-RSRP, becomes a threshold value better than the current beam. At least Ll-RSRP is supported as quality metrics used for Event-2.
[0110] Regarding RS measurement for the new beam for Event-2, down-select one or more of the following: Option-3a (explicit manner): the RS(s) for new beam(s) are explicitly configured by RRC (e.g., reusing legacy configuration of RS measurement or in TCI-State) or MAC-CE. It is to be understood that these events are only for the purpose of illustration, without suggesting any limitation. Other trigger events / quality metrics (e.g., Ll-SINR) are not precluded.
[0111] In some example embodiments, at block 210, the first apparatus 110 may determine that the first resource is unavailable for the message based on the first resource being overlapped with at least one of: a non-active period of cell discontinuous reception (DRX); a transmission from the second apparatus 120 to the first apparatus 110 such as DL transmission, DL symbols, SSBs, or the like; a channel for a transmission from the first apparatus 110 to the second apparatus 120, the channel being prioritized over the first resource, such as a prioritized UL channel or signal; or resources indicated by a cancellation indication. As used herein, a resource being unavailable for transmitting a message or information (also referred to as a resource being unavailable for transmitting the message or information) means that the first resource or a first channel corresponding to the first resource is overlapped with the above mentioned non-active period, DL transmission, prioritized UL transmission, or resource of a cancellation indication, or the like.
[0112] As mentioned, the first resource is unavailable for the message if the first resource is overlapped with a non-active period of cell DRX. In some example embodiments, the cell DRX is supported. For example, the first apparatus 110 in RRC CONNECTED state may support cell DRX. The first apparatus 110 may not expect to transmit the following signals / channels from the second apparatus 120, during non-active periods of cell DRX: periodic / semi-persistent CSI report, periodic / semi-persistent sounding reference signal (SRS) (but SRS for positioning is not impacted by cell DRX operation), scheduling Request (SR), configured grant (CG)-PUSCH, or the like.
[0113] On LI (de)activation signaling, a new DCI format 2 9 may be introduced for (de)activation of cell DTX and DRX configuration, for example, block-based, where each information block represents activation / deactivation of cell DTX / DRX per serving cell. Separate 1 bit indication may be used for activation / deactivation of cell DTX and cell DRX. If both cell DTX and cell DRX are configured for a serving cell, 1st bit corresponds to (de)activation of cell DTX, and 2nd bit corresponds to (de)activation of cell DRX.
[0114] Starting bit position of an information block, DCI size and Search space set of DCI format 2 9 are configurable via UE higher layer signaling. UE monitors DCI format 2 9 in the common search space of the serving cell. A new radio network temporary identifier (RNTI) (CellDTRX-RNTI) is introduced which is configured by higher layer, for scrambling of DCI format 2 9.
[0115] Each Serving Cell may be configured with a periodic cell DTX / DRX pattern (i.e., Active and Non-Active Periods). The first apparatus 110 may be configured by RRC with a cell-specificcellDTXDRX-Config which includes the onDurationTimer, CycleStartOffset, SlotOffset, configType, activationStatus. A maximum of two cell discontinuous transmission (DTX) / DRX patterns may be configured per MAC entity.
[0116] Separate Cell DTX and Cell DRX configurations may be supported. The two configured patterns are aligned, the start and slot offset are common for the two patterns, one periodicity is an integer multiple of the other. Cell DTX may be configured only when connected mode DRX is configured.
[0117] In some example embodiments, cell DTX / DRX is activated / deactivated by: RRC signalling by the parameter activationStatus in CellDTRX-DCI-config used on the setup of cell DTX / DRX configuration. LI signaling using DCI 2 9 when the parameter cellDTXDRX-Llactivation is enabled, and the CellDTRX-DCI-config is present, which includes cellDTRX-RNTI for scrambling of DCI format 2 9 for (de)-activating Cell DTX / DRX and sizeDCI-2-9.
[0118] Several scenarios where the first resource is unavailable for the message have been described. It is to be understood that in some example embodiments, if the first resource is overlapped with other data or symbols, the first resource may be unavailable for transmitting the message. Scope of the present disclosure is not limited here.
[0119] If the first apparatus 110 determines that the first resource is unavailable for the message, at block 220, the first apparatus 110 performs at least one operation associated with the measurement report. The at least one operation is configured by the second apparatus 120, or predefined. As used herein, an operation or other information being predefined means that the operation or information is specified or defined in a standard, such as 3GPP standard. An operation or information being configured by the second apparatus 120 means that the first apparatus 110 receives a configuration of the operation or information from the second apparatus 120.
[0120] In some example embodiments, the at least one operation may include at least one of: refraining from transmitting the measurement report in the second resource; dropping or stopping a measurement corresponding to the measurement report; dropping the transmission of the message; transmitting the message in a third resource available for the message, the third resource being after the first resource; holding at least one of the transmission of the message or the measurement report for a time duration, or dropping at least one of the message or the measurement report after the time duration. The time duration or a timer may be configured by the second apparatus 120, or predefined.
[0121] As used herein, holding the message or the measurement report may mean that (the transmission of) the message or (the transmission of) the measurement report is kept pending. In an example, holding the message or the measurement report for a time duration means to hold the message or the measurement report until the time duration expires. For example, the message or the measurement report may be dropped after the time duration.
[0122] In some example embodiments, the message may be the notification of the measurement report or the indication indicative of at least one event related to measurement reporting occurring. In such cases, the at least one operation may include transmitting the message in the first resource based on the first resource being overlapped with a non-active period of cell discontinuous reception. That is, the first apparatus 110 may transmit the notification or indication in the first UL resource / channel, even though it overlaps with non-active period of cell DRX. This may be the case for example, if the second UL resource / channel may be transmitted (i.e., it doesn’t overlap with non-active period of cell DRX, with DL symbols, and / or with a higher priority UL channel or signal).
[0123] In some example embodiments, the message may be the request for the second resource. In such cases, the at least one operation may include refraining from monitoring a response of the request from the second apparatus 120, the response including an indication or configuration of the second resource.
[0124] Alternatively, or in addition, in some example embodiments, if at block 210, the first apparatus 110 determines that the first resource is not overlapped with a non-active period of cell discontinuous reception, a transmission from the second apparatus 120 to the first apparatus 110, at least one DL symbol, a channel or signal prioritized over the first resource and for a transmission to the second apparatus 120, and resources indicated by a cancellation indication, the first apparatus 110 may determine that the first resource is available for the message. If the first resource is available for the message, the first apparatus 110 may transmit the message in the first resource. As used herein, a resource or channel being available for transmitting a message or information (also referred to as a resource or channel being available for the message or information) means that the first resource or a first channel corresponding to the first resource is not overlapped with the above mentioned non-active period, DL transmission, DL symbol, prioritized UL transmission or signal, or resource of a cancellation indication, or the like.
[0125] These embodiments allow to address cases or scenarios where, for UE initiated beam / CSI reporting, some of the corresponding at least one UL transmission would overlap with other configuration or channels etc. and proposed needed enhancements in that regard. Specifically, these embodiments enable enhancements to address scenarios when the UL channel to transmit notification / request and / or UL channel to transmit CSI report overlaps with cell DRX non-active period, or with DL symbols etc. These embodiments allow also guarantee common understanding between UE and gNB regarding UE’s behavior.
[0126] FIG. 3 A illustrates a signaling flow 300 of a measurement reporting according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The signaling flow 300 involves the first apparatus 110 and the second apparatus 120 in FIG. 1. For purpose of illustration, the signaling flow 300 will be described with respect to FIG. 1.
[0127] In operation, the first apparatus 110 determines (330) whether a first resource is available for transmitting a notification associated with a measurement report to the second apparatus 120. The notification indicates at least one of: at least one event for measurement reporting occurring, or the measurement report to be transmitted in a second resource. The measurement report may be a beam report or CSI report, or the like. By way of example, the first resource comprises a first PUCCH. The second resource comprises a second PUCCH or PUSCH after the first PUCCH.
[0128] In some example embodiments, if at least one event related to measurement reporting occurs, the first apparatus 110 may determine (330) whether the first resource is available for transmitting the notification. If the first resource is overlapped with at least one of: a non-active period of cell discontinuous reception, a transmission from the second apparatus 120 to the first apparatus 110, at least one DL symbol, a channel or a signal for a transmission from the first apparatus 110 to the second apparatus 120 and being prioritized over the first resource such as UL channel or signal, or resources indicated by a cancellation indication, the first apparatus 110 may determine (330) that the first resource is unavailable for the notification. Otherwise, if there is no overlapping, the first apparatus 110 may determine (330) that the first resource is available for the notification.
[0129] By way of example, for UE-initiated CSI / beam reporting, when the UE determines that at least on event related to CSI / beam reporting has occurred, UE may determine whether a first UL resource / channel, used to notify the gNB about UE reporting CSI report corresponding to the at least one event (and / or to inform the gNB that the at least one event has occurred), cannot be transmitted due to overlap, such as overlap with non-active period of cell DRX, with DL symbols, and / or with a high priority UL channel or signal.
[0130] If the first resource is unavailable for the notification, the first apparatus 110 perform (340) at least one operation. In an example, the at least one operation may be predefined or specified. In another example, the at least one operation may be configured or indicated by the second apparatus 120. For example, the second apparatus 120 may transmit (310) a configuration or indication (for example, via RRC or other suitable signaling) to the first apparatus 110. The first apparatus 110 may receive (320) the configuration. The configuration may include the at least one operation.
[0131] The at least one operation may include but not limited to: refraining from transmitting the measurement report in the second resource; dropping or stopping a measurement corresponding to the measurement report; dropping the transmission of the notification; transmitting the notification in the first resource; transmitting the notification in a third resource available for the notification, the third resource being after the first resource; holding at least one of the transmission of the notification or the transmission of the measurement report for a time duration, or dropping at least one of the notification or the measurement report after the time duration. The time duration may be predefined or configured by the second apparatus 120. That is, the received configuration may indicate at least one of: the at least one operation, or the time duration for holding at least one of the transmission of the message or the transmission of the measurement report.
[0132] In some example embodiments, if the first resource is overlapped with the non-active period, the first apparatus 120 may determine whether the second resource is available for the measurement report. If the second resource is available for the measurement report, the first apparatus 110 may transmit the notification in the first resource.
[0133] That is, the first apparatus 110 such as UE may be specified or configured (e.g., via RRC) or indicated to follow one or more of the following behaviors: -UE refrains from transmitting the corresponding CSI report, where this CSI report was supposed to be transmitted in a (second) configured UL resource / channel. In other words, the UE drops the CSI report or skips transmitting the CSI report in the second channel; - UE drops the corresponding CSI measurements, and / or information that the at least one event has occurred (i.e., UE may assume if the at least one event has not occurred); - UE transmits the notification in the first UL resource / channel, even though it overlaps with non-active period of cell DRX. This can be the case e.g., if the second UL resource / channel can be transmitted (i.e., it doesn’t overlap with non-active period of cell DRX, with DL symbols, and / or with a higher priority UL channel or signal; - UE transmits the notification in the next UL resource / channel occasion (used to notify the gNB about UE reporting CSI report corresponding to the at least one event (and / or that the event has occurred)) that does not overlap with non-active period of cell DRX, with DL symbols, and / or with a higher-priority UL channel or signal; - UE holds information that event occurred and / or related CSI measurements (and CSI report) a specified or configured period of time, where this period of time may be represented by a timer. After this period of time, or once the timer expires, the UE may drop the information; or - UE may stop DL RS measurements when / once it determines that the first channel UL resource / channel (used to notify the gNB about UE reporting CSI report corresponding to the at least one event (and / or that the event has occurred)) overlaps with non-active period of cell DRX, with DL symbols, and / or with a higher-priority UL channel or signal.
[0134] In some example embodiments, if the first resource is not overlapped with a non-active period of cell discontinuous reception, a transmission from the second apparatus to the first apparatus, at least one DL symbol, a channel or a signal prioritized over the first resource and for a transmission to the second apparatus 120, and resources indicated by a cancellation indication, the first apparatus 110 may determine (330) that the first resource is available for the notification.
[0135] In some example embodiments, if the first resource is available for the notification, the first apparatus 110 may transmit the notification in the first resource. Alternatively, or in addition, in some embodiments, if the first resource is available for the notification, the first apparatus 110 may determine whether the second resource is available for the measurement report. If the second resource is unavailable for the measurement report, the first apparatus 110 may perform at least one further operation comprising at least one of: refraining from including the measurement report in a transmission of the second resource; refraining from transmitting the notification; transmitting the measurement report in the second resource; transmitting the notification in a third resource available for the notification, the third resource being after the first resource; transmitting the measurement report in a fourth resource available for the measurement report, the fourth resource being after the second resource; holding the measurement report for a further time duration; or dropping the measurement report after the further time duration. At least one of the at least one further operation or the further time duration may be configured by the second apparatus 120, or predefined.
[0136] In some example embodiments, if the second resource carries a further measurement report or shared channel data, the further measurement report being associated with a further event or a further report type, the first apparatus 110 may refrain from including the measurement report in the transmission of the second resource. That is, if the second UL resource / channel carries CSI reports for other events for which the notification has been sent, or other type of CSI reports (such as aperiodic, semi-persistent, ...), or UL-SCH data, the UE may refrain from including the CSI report corresponding the at least one event in the transmission of the second UL channel / resource.
[0137] In some example embodiments, if the second resource is overlapped with a non-active period of cell discontinuous reception, the first apparatus 110 may transmit the measurement report in the second resource.
[0138] These embodiments allow to address cases or scenarios where, for UE initiated beam / CSI reporting, some of the corresponding at least one UL transmission would overlap with other configuration or channels etc. and proposed needed enhancements in that regard. Specifically, these embodiments enable enhancements to address scenarios when the UL channel to transmit notification and / or UL channel to transmit CSI report overlaps with cell DRX non-active period, or with DL symbols etc. These embodiments allow also guarantee common understanding between UE and gNB regarding UE’s behavior.
[0139] FIG. 3B illustrates a signaling flow 350 of a measurement reporting according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The signaling flow 350 involves the first apparatus 110 and the second apparatus 120 in FIG. 1. For purpose of illustration, the signaling flow 350 will be described with respect to FIG. 1.
[0140] In operation, the first apparatus 110 determines (380) whether a first resource is available for transmitting a request for a second resource for transmitting a measurement report to the second apparatus 120. The measurement report may be a beam report or CSI report, or the like. By way of example, the first resource comprises a first PUCCH. The second resource comprises a second PUCCH or PUSCH after the first PUCCH.
[0141] In some example embodiments, if at least one event related to measurement reporting occurs, the first apparatus 110 may determine (380) whether the first resource is available for transmitting the request. If the first resource is overlapped with at least one of a non-active period of cell discontinuous reception, a transmission from the second apparatus 120 to the first apparatus 110, at least one DL symbol, a channel or a signal for a transmission from the first apparatus 110 to the second apparatus 120 and being prioritized over the first resource such as a higher UL channel or signal, or resources indicated by a cancellation indication, the first apparatus 110 may determine (380) that the first resource is unavailable for the request. Otherwise, if there is no overlapping, the first apparatus 110 may determine (380) that the first resource is available for the notification.
[0142] By way of example, for UE-initiated CSI / beam reporting, when the UE determines that at least on event related to CSI / beam reporting has occurred, UE may determine whether a first UL resource / channel, used to request UL resources from the gNB for reporting CSI report corresponding to the at least one event (and / or to inform the gNB that the event has occurred), overlaps with non-active period of cell DRX, with DL symbols, and / or with a higher-priority UL channel or signal.
[0143] If the first resource is unavailable for the notification, the first apparatus 110 perform (390) at least one operation. In an example, the at least one operation may be predefined or specified. In another example, the at least one operation may be configured or indicated by the second apparatus 120. For example, the second apparatus 120 may transmit (360) a configuration or indication (for example, via RRC or other suitable signaling) to the first apparatus 110. The first apparatus 110 may receive (370) the configuration. The configuration may include the at least one operation.
[0144] The at least one operation may include but not limited to: refraining from transmitting the measurement report in the second resource; dropping or stopping a measurement corresponding to the measurement report; refraining from monitoring a response of the request from the second apparatus 120, the response including an indication or configuration of the second resource; dropping the transmission of the request; transmitting the request in a third resource available for the notification, the third resource being after the first resource; holding the transmission of the request for a time duration, or dropping the request after the time duration.
[0145] That is, the first apparatus 110 such as UE the UE may be specified or configured (e.g., via RRC) to follow one or more of the following behaviors: - UE may refrain from monitoring any response (e.g., in form of UL grant) from the gNB; - UE may drop the transmission of the request; - UE may hold the transmission of the request until next occasion of first UL resource / channel which may be transmitted. The UE may drop the request information after a period of time (or after a timer expires ...).
[0146] In some example embodiments, if the first resource is not overlapped with a non-active period of cell discontinuous reception, a transmission from the second apparatus 120 to the first apparatus 110, at least one DL symbol, a channel or signal prioritized over the first resource and for a transmission to the second apparatus 120, and resources indicated by a cancellation indication, the first apparatus 110 may determine (380) that the first resource is available for the notification.
[0147] In some example embodiments, if the first resource is available for the notification, the first apparatus 110 may transmit the request for the second resource in the first resource. The second apparatus 120 may transmit a response of the receive. The response may include the indication or configuration of the second resource for transmitting the measurement report. In response to receiving the response from the second apparatus 120, the first apparatus 110 may transmit the measurement report in the second resource.
[0148] These embodiments allow to address cases or scenarios where, for UE initiated beam / CSI reporting, some of the corresponding at least one UL transmission would overlap with other configuration or channels etc. and proposed needed enhancements in that regard. Specifically, these embodiments enable enhancements to address scenarios when the UL channel to transmit request and / or UL channel to transmit CSI report overlaps with cell DRX non-active period, or with DL symbols etc. These embodiments allow also guarantee common understanding between UE and gNB regarding UE’s behavior.
[0149] FIG. 4 illustrates another signaling flow 400 of a measurement reporting according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The signaling flow 400 involves the first apparatus 110 and the second apparatus 120 in FIG. I For purpose of illustration, the signaling flow 400 will be described with respect to FIG. 1.
[0150] In operation, the first apparatus 110 determines (430) whether a first resource is available for a notification associated with a measurement report to the second apparatus 12.
[0151] If the first resource is available for the notification, the first apparatus 110 determines (440) whether the second resource is available for transmitting the measurement report. The first apparatus 110 may determine (440) that the second resource is unavailable for the measurement report based on the second resource being overlapped with at least one of: a further measurement report or shared channel data, the further measurement report being associated with a further event or a further report type, a non-active period of cell discontinuous reception, a transmission from the second apparatus 120 to the first apparatus 110, at least one DL symbol, or a channel or signal prioritized over the first resource and for a transmission from the first apparatus 110 to the second apparatus 120, or resources indicated by a cancellation indication. The further report type may include at least one of: a periodic measurement report, an aperiodic measurement report, or a semi-persistent measurement report.
[0152] If the second resource is unavailable for transmitting the measurement report, the first apparatus performs (450) at least one operation. The at least one operation may be predefined, or configured by the second apparatus 120. By way of example, the at least one operation include but not limited to: refraining from including the measurement report in a transmission of the second resource; refraining from transmitting the notification; transmitting the measurement report in the second resource; transmitting the notification in a third resource available for the notification, the third resource being after the first resource; transmitting the measurement report in a fourth resource available for the measurement report, the fourth resource being after the second resource; holding the measurement report for a time duration; or dropping the measurement report after the time duration.
[0153] In some example embodiments, if the second resource carries a further measurement report or shared channel data, the further measurement report being associated with a further event or a further report type, the first apparatus 110 may refrain from including the measurement report in the transmission of the second resource. In some embodiments, if the second UL resource / channel carries CSI reports for other events for which the notification has been sent, or other type of CSI reports (such as aperiodic, semi-persistent, ...), or UL-SCH data, the first apparatus 110 such as UE may refrain from including the CSI report corresponding the at least one event in the transmission of the second UL channel / resource.
[0154] In some example embodiments, if the second resource is overlapped with a non-active period of cell discontinuous reception, the first apparatus 110 may transmit the measurement report in the second resource.
[0155] In some example embodiments, the second apparatus 120 may transmit (410) a configuration to the first apparatus 110. The first apparatus 110 may receive (420) the configuration. The configuration may include at least one of: the at least one operation, or the time duration for holding the measurement report. Alternatively, or in addition, in some example embodiments, at least one of: the at least one operation, or the time duration for holding the measurement report is predefined or defined in a standard.
[0156] In some example embodiments, if the second resource is not overlapped with the further measurement report or shared channel data, the non-active period of cell discontinuous reception, the transmission from the second apparatus 120 to the first apparatus 110, at least one DL symbol, the channel or signal prioritized over the first resource and for the transmission to the second apparatus 120, and the resources indicated by the cancellation indication, the first apparatus 110 may determine (440) that the second resource is available for the measurement report. The first apparatus 110 thus may transmit the measurement report using the second resource.
[0157] That is, for UE-initiated CSI / beam reporting, when the UE determines that at least on event related to CSI / beam reporting has occurred, and if a first UL resource / channel, used to notify the gNB about UE reporting CSI report corresponding to the at least one event (and / or to inform the gNB that the at least one event has occurred), may be transmitted but the second channel / resource overlaps with non-active period of cell DRX, with DL symbols, and / or with a higher priority UL channel, the UE may perform at least one of the following: - UE refrains from transmitting the notification (or indication). - UE transmits the CSI report in the second UL resource / channel, even though it overlaps with non-active period of cell DRX. - UE transmits the notification in the next (second) UL resource / channel occasion that does not overlap with non-active period of cell DRX, with DL symbols, and / or with a higher-priority UL channel or signal. - UE holds the information of CSI report for a specified or configured period of time, where this period of time may be represented by a timer. After this period of time, or once the timer expires, the UE may drop the information.
[0158] These embodiments allow to address cases / scenarios where, for UE initiated beam / CSI reporting, some of the corresponding at least one UL transmission would overlap with other configuration or channels etc. and proposed needed enhancements in that regard.
[0159] FIG. 5 illustrates an example diagram 500 of a timeline showing some operations for measurement reporting according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure.
