Hybrid power control for near-field communication systems

Abstract

A computing device 100 comprising a short-range wireless communications assembly 124, which may be a near-field communication (NFC) reader. The computing device controls the assembly over a sequence of time periods where the assembly first sends a polling request, and then listens for a reply, in each period. The period may include a sub-period where the assembly listens for a polling request from another device. The power used for polling may differ between time periods. The computing device may comprise a display, which may be mounted over the antenna. The power level used for polling may be selected to mitigate any visual artefacts on the display caused by their transmission. [Figure 1]
