Claims

1. A monitoring system configured to monitor the operation of a building asset and predict failure of the building asset, the monitoring system comprising: at least one sensor configured to obtain at least one parameter indicative of the current performance or environment of a building asset; and at least one processor configured to:receive from the at least one sensor a plurality of measurements of the at least one parameter;obtain historical data representative of historical performance of the building asset;compare the plurality of measurements of the at least one parameter with the historical data;predict future failure of the building asset based on the comparison of the plurality of measurements of the at least one parameter with the historical data; andoutput a control signal to schedule maintenance of the building asset to prevent future failure.

A method of monitoring the operation of a building asset and predicting failure of the building asset, the method comprising: receiving from at least one sensor a plurality of measurements of at least one parameter indicative of the current performance or environment of a building asset;obtaining historical data representative of historical performance of the building asset;comparing the plurality of measurements of the at least one parameter with the historical data;predicting future failure of the building asset based at least on the comparison of the plurality of measurements of the at least one parameter with the historical data; andoutputting a control signal to schedule maintenance of the building asset to prevent future failure.

3. The monitoring system according to Claim 1 or method according to Claim2, wherein the at least one sensor comprises a plurality of sensors.

4. The monitoring system or method according to Claim 3, wherein each of the plurality of sensors monitors a different building asset within a system of building assets.

The monitoring system or method according to any preceding claim, wherein the at least one sensor comprises any of, or any combination of: a temperature sensor, a humidity sensor, an electrical sensor, a pressure sensor, an energy meter, a sound sensor, a chemical sensor, and a vibrational sensor.

6. The monitoring system or method according to any preceding claim, wherein the historical data comprises data that links the at least one parameter with the condition of the building asset.

7. The monitoring system or method according to any preceding claim, wherein historical data is defined based on historical data associated with the individual building asset, and / or with a historical data associated with group of the same or similar building assets.

The monitoring system or method according to any preceding claim, wherein comparing the plurality of measurements of the at least one parameter with the historical data comprises comparing each of the measurements of the at least one parameter with a threshold value, the threshold value being dependent on the historical data.

9. The monitoring system or method according to Claim 8, wherein the threshold value is indicative of a value of the at least one parameter beyond which the building asset, or similar building assets, have historically failed.

10. The monitoring system or method according to any preceding claim, wherein comparing the plurality of measurements of the at least oneparameter with the historical data comprises generating curve data that is dependent on the plurality of measurements of the at least one parameter, and comparing the curve data with historical curve data.

11. The monitoring system or method according to Claim 10, wherein generating curve data comprises determining or plotting the plurality of measurements of the at least one parameter against a second parameter.

12. The monitoring system or method according to Claim 11, wherein comparison of the curve data with historical curve data comprises comparing the shape of the plot of the curve data to the shape of the plot of historical curve data.

13. The monitoring system or method according to Claim 12, wherein statistical and / or pattern recognition analysis is used to identify differences or similarities between the shape of the plots during said comparison.

14. The monitoring system or method according to any preceding claim, wherein the method is repeated at regular intervals during operation or use of the building asset.

15. The monitoring system or method according to any preceding claim, wherein in response to predicting a future failure of the building asset, the predicted future failure is indicated to a user or operator.

16. The monitoring system or method according to Claim 15, wherein a possible reason for the predicted future failure of the building asset is advised to the user or operator.

17. The monitoring system or method according to Claim 15 or Claim 16, wherein a possible way of delaying or preventing the predicted future failure of the building asset is advised to the user or operator.

The monitoring system or method according to any preceding claim, wherein receiving from at least one sensor a plurality of measurements of atleast one parameter indicative of the current performance or environment of a building asset comprises receiving a plurality of measurements of at least one parameter indicative of the current performance or environment of at least one primary building asset within the system of building assets.

The monitoring system or method according to Claim 18, wherein at least one secondary building asset within the system of building assets is identified, the at least one secondary building asset being reliant or dependent on the at least one primary building asset in order to operate or function, future failure of the at least one secondary building asset is predicted in response to the predicted failure of the at least one primary building asset, and downtime or maintenance of the at least one secondary building asset is scheduled.

The monitoring system or method according to any preceding claim, further comprising carrying out maintenance of the building asset to prevent future failure.21 .A monitoring system configured to monitor the operation of a system of building assets and to predict failure of one or more building assets within the system of building assets, the monitoring system comprising:at least one sensor configured to obtain at least one parameter indicative of the current performance or environment of at least one primary building asset within the system of building assets; andat least one processor configured to:receive from the at least one sensor a plurality of measurements of the at least one parameter;determine a condition of the at least one primary asset based at least on the plurality of measurements of the at least one parameter;predict future failure of the at least one primary building asset based at least on the determined condition of the at least one primary asset;identify at least one secondary building asset within the system of building assets, wherein the at least one secondary building asset is reliant ordependent on the at least one primary building asset in order to operate or function;predict future failure of the at least one secondary building asset in response to the predicted failure of the at least one primary building asset; andoutput a control signal to schedule downtime or maintenance of the at least one secondary building asset.

A method of monitoring the operation of a system of building assets and predicting failure of one or more building assets within the system of building assets, the method comprising:receiving a plurality of measurements of at least one parameter indicative of the current performance or environment of at least one primary building asset within the system of building assets;determining a condition of the at least one primary building asset based at least on the plurality of measurements of the at least one parameter;predicting future failure of the at least one primary building asset based at least on the determined condition of the at least one primary asset;identifying at least one secondary building asset within the system of building assets, wherein the at least one secondary building asset is reliant or dependent on the at least one primary building asset in order to operate or function;predicting future failure of the at least one secondary building asset in response to the predicted failure of the at least one primary building asset;and outputting a control signal to schedule downtime or maintenance of the at least one secondary building asset.

23. The monitoring system according to Claim 21 or the method according to Claim 22, further comprising carrying out downtime or maintenance of the at least one secondary building asset.

The monitoring system or method according to any of Claims 21-23, wherein the condition of the at least one primary asset is determined byobtaining historical data representative of historical performance of the primary building asset, and comparing the plurality of measurements of the at least one parameter with the historical data.5 25. The monitoring system or method according to any of Claims 21 -24,wherein at least one sensor comprise a plurality of sensors, each of the plurality of sensors monitors a different primary building asset within the system of building assets, and at least one secondary building asset is identified within the system of building assets for each of the primary10 building assets.s
