Method and apparatus for encapsulating and parsing a media file having split samples

Abstract

Encapsulating media data into a media file, the media data comprising base data and additional data to the base data, the method comprising, generating a track comprising a sequence of samples, each sample being associated with a single time. Each sample comprises a first part including data of the base data associated with the single time and at least one additional part including data of the additional data associated with the single time. Descriptive metadata including information relative to the organization of the at least one additional part of the samples in the track is generated. The media file comprising the generated track and descriptive metadata is then generated. Wherein the first coding type sub-bitstream and the at least one other coding type sub-bitstream may be chosen between an atlas sub-bitstream, a base mesh sub-bitstream containing base mesh data providing information on a simplified mesh of a 3D content, or an arithmetic displacement sub-bitstream containing data describing displacement information, to apply to points described by the simplified base mesh, a video sub-bitstream.
