Context transfer of incompatible features to allow seamless roaming with target aps

Abstract

A non-AP STA transmits context information to a source AP ,SAP, which transfers the context information to target APs ,TAPs, to improve seamless roaming performance when the non-AP STA roams to a TAP. The context information shared with the APs not only include context items describing features supported by the non-AP STA and the SAP, but also context items describing features not supported by the SAP although supported by the non-AP STA. This allows all the non-AP STA’s supported features to be transferred to the TAPs. The SAP sets communication parameters of the non-AP STA by exchanging an Action frame with the non-AP STA. The SAP transfers context information of the non-AP STA to one or more TAPs wherein the context information includes the body of the Action frame to communicate the communication parameters.
