Abstract

A cache memory management system 2 is configured to control dynamic data updating of a cache memory 4 from external data sources 8. The system includes a monitoring subsystem 15 that tracks a call load for the external data sources, the call load being the extent of cache update calls sent to external data sources requesting updated data to be stored in the cache memory. A call management subsystem 14 dynamically controls future cache update calls to external data sources, based on the tracked call load to those external data sources. The call management subsystem may be configured to dynamically enable, prioritise, rank or otherwise control if or when future cache update calls to specific external sources are made, based on the tracked call load to those specific external data sources. The call load may include a frequency of cache update calls that have been made to those external data sources or how many cache update calls have been made to those external data sources over a predefined time period. A predefined time interval for tracking call load may be configurable based on system requirements or external source constraints. [Figure 2]
