A method of, and a system for, electronic document signing

Abstract

A method and system for electronic document signing includes storing an electronic signature 310 for a user in a database, or memory, accessible by a signature generation engine; a unique identifier is generated for a signing event and used to create a machine-readable code 312; the stored electronic signature and the machine-readable code are combined into a signature block 300 which is then incorporated into an editable document for electronic signing. Preferably, the machine-readable code is a QR code which appears next to the electronic signature when a document is rendered; the QR code may form part of a corporate seal. A user may upload a photograph during registration. The unique identifier may be a universally unique identifier (UUID). The system may use a password, multi-factor authentication, or biometric identification. A verification module may access a server storing valid unique identifiers and associated signer data. The system may be accessed through a user interface (UI) which is provided as a plugin, or an application programming interface (API), with a word processing or portable document format (PDF) editing platform.
