Abstract

The present invention relates to a mechanism which allows the selective and temporary increase of the functional length of the bicycle lever arm (L - L+DL) exclusively during the cyclist's push phase. In this way, the torque transferred to the transmission system is increased without the use of a larger front gear, achieving greater angular displacement and increased rotational speed of the rearwheel in conditions where downshifting would be required. The spring preload is adjustable to adapt to different force levels and cyclist styles. The mechanism can be factory-integrated into new bicycles (OEM) or made available as an independent aftermarket component. The invention is a simple, low-cost and highly-reliable construction.
