Abstract
This invention concerns the RPO30 protein of an Indonesian isolate of Lumpy Skin Disease virus and its use in the development of an epitope-based vaccine in the field of animal health. This invention relates to the provision of the RPO30 protein or its immunogenic B cell epitope fragment derived from an Indonesian isolate of Lumpy Skin Disease virus as an active vaccine ingredient. The RPO30 protein or the immunogenic B cell epitope fragment is identified through genetic sequence analysis and immunogenicity prediction, then chemically synthesized or recombinantly expressed. The immunogenic B cell epitope fragment is then formulated with a veterinary acceptable carrier or pharmaceutical adjuvant to produce an epitope-based vaccine. This epitope-based vaccine is designed to induce a specific humoral immune response against Lumpy Skin Disease virus without the use of live virus. This invention provides an alternative for developing a safer vaccine, specific to local Indonesian isolates, and potentially reducing post-vaccination side effects. It is hoped that this invention can be used to prevent Lumpy Skin Disease in cattle and buffalo.
