Abstract
This invention relates to a method for making a combination adsorbent based on mangrove biomass of Rhizophora mucronata and Xylocarpus sp. and its application to adsorb the pharmaceutical compound sodium diclofenac from solution. This method includes the stages of providing biomass raw materials in the form of twigs of both types of mangrove, drying, grinding, sieving using a 50 mesh sieve, and mixing the two mangrove powders with a weight ratio (1:1) to obtain a mangrove combination adsorbent. The test results show that the mangrove combination adsorbent according to this invention is able to adsorb sodium diclofenac with an adsorption efficiency of approximately 58.9% at optimum pH conditions (pH 6), higher than the single adsorbent Rhizophora mucronata (46.6%) or Xylocarpus sp. (49%), indicating a synergistic effect from the combination of the two biomasses. This invention provides a practical and efficient solution in pharmaceutical waste processing by utilizing abundant and environmentally friendly mangrove biomass, resulting in a low-cost natural adsorbent that is effective for adsorbing sodium diclofenac from solutions or liquid waste.
