Abstract
This article is a suction and water supply coagulation device used in endoscopic surgery. It is a surgical instrument that combines the functions of a suction and water supply nozzle, which draws bodily fluids such as blood out of the body and supplies irrigation fluid or the like from outside the body to the area surrounding the affected area, with the function of an electrode, which applies high-frequency current to an incised area such as a tumor excised with a scalpel to coagulate tissue. The suction and water supply coagulation device is composed of a long, slender, linear shaft and an operating unit located at the base end of the shaft, through which the surgeon performs operations such as suction, water supply, and coagulation. The shaft is made of a hollow, cylindrical metal pipe as its base material. The tip is pressurized and deformed into a tapered shape in plan view, changing the cross-sectional shape of the pipe from a circular to an elliptical shape, and the tip is machined and polished into a gently curved long sword shape in front view. Almost the entire shaft, from the base end, is covered with an electrically insulating material, with a metal portion exposed at the tip, forming the electrode.
