Abstract
Description
[Technical Field]
[0001] The field of the invention is that of non-motorized, manually operated, automatically retractable cable reels for transmitting motion from one part to another by pulling on a cable or string. [Background technology]
[0002] There are already known pull-string drive mechanisms intended to transmit rotational motion to objects or working units. These mechanisms are often used as handheld drive devices for kitchen appliances such as salad spinners, choppers, ricers, juicers, and blenders.
[0003] US Patent No. 5,949,999 discloses a kitchen utensil with a manually operated pull string that allows a user to cut food by rotating a cutting blade when pulling a handle connected to the string.
[0004] The kitchen appliance described in Patent Document 1 specifically includes a manually operated pull-string drive mechanism located inside the lid of the kitchen appliance. This drive mechanism is complex to assemble because the parts of the drive mechanism cooperate with each other and can only be assembled while the lid of the kitchen appliance is being assembled. One drawback is that once the drive mechanism is placed in the lid, it is inaccessible and permanently attached to the lid to which it is attached during use. Therefore, it is impossible to release or move the drive mechanism, which is fixed to and permanently connected to the lid.
[0005] Another drawback is that assembling this type of drive mechanism onto the lid is tedious, complicated, and cannot be automated, so the utensil assembly cannot be separated from the drive mechanism assembly. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]
[0006] [Patent Document 1] US Patent Application Publication No. 2008 / 0164357 Summary of the Invention
[0007] SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention aims to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks and provide a kitchen appliance with a simple, removable, manually operated pull string actuation device that is separate from the rest of the appliance.
[0008] The present invention relates to kitchen appliances, an operating unit comprising a bowl, a lid configured to close said bowl, and a rotating accessory arranged in said bowl and mounted rotatably around a rotation axis; a string drive device comprising: a body; a drive wheel housed in the body and configured to be coaxially disposed relative to a rotation axis; a string configured to be wound around the drive wheel, a first end fixed to the drive wheel, a second end opposite the first end, and a handle connected to the second end of the string and configured to pull the string to rotate the drive wheel in one rotational direction, wherein the string drive device is configured to manually rotate a rotating accessory about the rotation axis by pulling the string transversely to the rotation axis; The pull-string actuation device is configured to be self-contained and detachable relative to the lid, and the kitchen appliance includes a locking system configured to temporarily and reversibly secure a body of the pull-string actuation device to the lid, the locking system being further configured to prevent, and more specifically inhibit, rotational movement of the body relative to the lid and along the axis of rotation when the body is secured to the lid.
[0009] The term "removable" should be understood to mean that the user can remove the pull string drive device from the lid without disassembly and can temporarily or permanently replace the pull string drive device on the lid.
[0010] The pull string drive of the kitchen utensil according to the present invention is easily adaptable to kitchen utensils of any shape and geometry and offers the advantage of being manufactured separately from the rest of the bowl and the lid of the kitchen utensil. Thus, the pull string drive of the kitchen utensil according to the present invention is standalone and ready to operate at any time. Because the pull string drive of the kitchen utensil according to the present invention is not pre-assembled to the lid, it is fully accessible and its handling is limited.
[0011] Additionally, the pull string drive of the kitchen utensil according to the present invention offers the advantage of being a self-contained, releasable subassembly, meaning that it is configured to be transferable from one kitchen utensil to another, or that it is replaceable or repairable. Indeed, it is believed that the pull string drive of the kitchen utensil according to the present invention can be transferred from one lid to another by releasing it from the bowl lid without disassembling the pull string drive or affecting the string tension. Thus, the pull string drive device according to the present invention is versatile.
[0012] A further advantage of the present invention is that the pull string actuation device is designed to be manufactured and transported separately from the rest of the kitchen appliance in which it is used, thus offering a high degree of industrial autonomy.
[0013] Yet another advantage of the present invention is that the operating unit can be detached from the pull string drive device and therefore washed separately from the pull string drive device, for example in a dishwasher.
[0014] Furthermore, the risk of contact between the food in the work unit and the pull string drive is greatly reduced by the fact that the lid forms the interface between the drive part of the kitchen utensil and its food part, limiting the risk of food splashing and staining of the pull string drive.
[0015] The particular configuration of the locking system further ensures that the forces applied to the body (each time the string is pulled) are absorbed by the lid and not by the coupling means configured to transmit the rotation of the drive wheel to the rotating accessory, protecting the integrity of these coupling means and therefore the integrity of the kitchen appliance.
[0016] The particular configuration of the locking system significantly reduces the risk of inadvertent disconnection between the pull string actuation device and the lid, for example, when a user pulls a string that is oriented tangentially to the axis of rotation and therefore generates a torque on the body.
[0017] The kitchen appliance according to the invention may also have one or more of the following characteristics, either alone or in combination:
[0018] According to one embodiment of the present invention, the rotating accessory is a rotating processing tool configured to process food received in a bowl, for example, to mix, beat, whisk, grate, chop, cut, blend, combine, emulsify and / or knead the food received in the bowl when a user pulls a handle connected to a string.
[0019] According to one embodiment of the present invention, the pull string drive device comprises a return spring contained in an inner housing separated by a body and configured to be arranged coaxially relative to the rotation axis, the return spring being configured to rotate the drive wheel in a direction of rotation opposite to the direction of rotation, advantageously corresponding to unwinding the string from the drive wheel and rotation in the opposite direction corresponding to winding the string around the drive wheel.
[0020] According to one embodiment of the present invention, when the body is secured to the lid, the locking system is configured to prevent translational movement of the body relative to the lid in a direction of movement parallel to the axis of rotation and in a plane of movement perpendicular to the axis of rotation. These provisions further limit the risk of inadvertent disconnection between the pull string drive device and the lid (e.g., when lifting the kitchen utensil by grasping the pull string drive device) and also limit the risk of misalignment of the rotating accessory and drive wheel when the kitchen utensil is in use.

[Figure 11] FIG. 11 is a partial top view of the pull string drive device in the actuation phase. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0080] It should be noted that throughout this specification the terms "longitudinal", "lateral", "horizontal", "vertical", "lower", "upper", "upper", "lower", "coaxial" and "radial" used to describe the invention refer to the invention when placed on a horizontal plane in use. In the context of the present invention, the term "coaxially" means that parts are aligned on the same axis, not necessarily passing through the geometric center of the parts.
[0081] In this document, "string" also refers to a cable, pull chain, strap, or other similar elongated pulling component that can be wrapped around a drive wheel. Such strings can be made of natural, metal, or plastic materials.
[0082] 1-11 show a chopper-type kitchen appliance 2 in accordance with the present invention. However, the kitchen appliance 2 may be a salad spinner, ricer, juicer, blender, or any other kitchen appliance 2 that requires a non-motorized, manually operated, self-retracting reel to transmit motion from one part to another by pulling a cable or string.
[0083] The kitchen appliance 2 comprises a working unit 3 comprising a bowl 4 defining an interior volume intended to contain food, a lid 5 configured to close the bowl 4, and a rotating accessory 6 disposed on the bowl 4 and rotatably mounted about a rotation axis A. According to the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 11, the rotating accessory 6 is a cutting tool comprising one or more cutting blades 7. However, the rotating accessory 6 may be any rotating working tool, also referred to as a spin basket, a mixing tool, a kneading tool, a stirring tool, or a rotary processing tool, configured to process food received in the bowl 4, for example to mix, beat, whisk, grate, chop, cut, blend, combine, emulsify, and / or knead the food received in the bowl 4.
[0084] Advantageously, the kitchen appliance 2 comprises a connection device 8, such as a bayonet fastening system, configured to removably fasten the lid 5 to the bowl 4. The connection device 8 more particularly comprises several connection members 8.1 provided on the bowl 4 and distributed around the axis of rotation A, and several connection components 8.2 provided around the periphery of the lid 5 and configured to cooperate with the respective connection members 8.1. Advantageously, the connection members 8.1 are provided outside the internal volume, more particularly on the outer surface of the bowl 4, in order to make the bowl 4 easier to clean.
[0085] According to the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 11, the lid 5 comprises a ring-shaped sealing lip 9 provided on the underside of the lid 5 and configured to cooperate with the upper peripheral edge of the bowl 4. The presence of such a ring-shaped sealing lip 9 significantly reduces the risk of food flying out of the bowl 4 as a result of centrifugation.
[0086] Advantageously, the connection device 8 is configured to press the lid 5 against the upper peripheral edge of the bowl 4 so as to further increase the seal between the lid 5 and the bowl 4. To this end, as can be seen in Figure 9, when the lid 5 is resting on a horizontal surface, each of the connection components 8.2 is inclined relative to the horizontal.
[0087] The kitchen appliance 2 also includes a pull string drive device 11 configured to manually rotate the rotating accessory 6 about the axis of rotation A.
[0088] The pull string drive device 11 comprises a body 12 forming a protective housing. For example, the body 12 may include a base 12.1 and a protective cover 12.2 secured to the base 12.1, the base 12.1 and the protective cover 12.2 defining an inner housing 13. Advantageously, the protective cover comprises a gripping portion that allows a user to easily lift the kitchen appliance 2 using the pull string drive device 11 and to easily handle the pull string drive device 11.
[0089] The pull string driving device 11 further includes: a drive wheel 14 housed in an inner housing 13 delimited by a body 12 and arranged coaxially with respect to an axis of rotation A, the drive wheel 14 being mounted rotatably relative to the body 12; a string 15 configured to be wound around the drive wheel 14, the string 15 having a first end fixed to the drive wheel 14 and a second end opposite the first end; a handle 16 located on the outside of the body 12, the handle 16 being connected to a second end of the string 15 and configured to pull the string 15 so as to rotate the drive wheel 14 in one direction; a return spring 17 contained in an inner housing 13 defined by the body 12 and configured to be arranged coaxially with respect to the axis of rotation A, the return spring 17 being configured to rotate the drive wheel 14 in a direction of rotation opposite to the direction of rotation after the user pulls on the handle 16, so as to wind the string 15 around the drive wheel 14.
[0090] Thus, the rotating accessory 6 is more specifically configured to cut food received in the bowl 4 by rotating the cutting blade 7 when a user pulls the handle 16 connected to the string 15.
[0091] Advantageously, the handle 16 comprises a grip portion 16.1 having a curved shape, for example generally in the shape of a circular arc, and a stop portion 16.2 configured to abut against the outer surface of the body 12 when the pull string drive device 11 is in a stationary phase.
[0092] 1 to 11, the return spring 17 is wound around the axis of rotation A, the plane of winding of the return spring 17 being advantageously arranged perpendicular to the axis of rotation A. Advantageously, the return spring 17 is a helical spring, such as an elastic band in the form of a roll with adjacent coils, and is housed in a ring-shaped cavity at least partially defined by the drive wheel 14.
[0093] 10, the return spring 17 has a first end 17.1 fixed to a first fixing point provided on the drive wheel 14 and a second end 17.2 fixed to a second fixing point provided on the body 12. The return spring 17 is thus able to store energy when it is tensioned or under tension and release it when it is decompressed (torque release).
[0094] As shown more particularly in Figure 7, the drive wheel 14 comprises a ring-shaped groove 18 configured to receive the string 15. Advantageously, the string 15 is wound in the ring-shaped groove 18 counterclockwise relative to the axis of rotation A, and the return spring 17 disposed in the ring-shaped cavity of the drive wheel 14 is wound clockwise relative to the axis of rotation A. However, the string 15 can be wound clockwise relative to the axis of rotation A in the ring-shaped groove 18 of the drive wheel 14, and the return spring 17 can be disposed in the ring-shaped cavity of the drive wheel 14 wound counterclockwise relative to the axis of rotation A.
[0095] Advantageously, the pull string drive device 11 also comprises a string guide 19 fixed to the body 12 and configured to guide the string 15 as it is pulled. The string guide 19 may be made of, for example, brass, ceramic or metal, or any material that, when in contact with the string 15, is not altered by heating of the string 15 due to friction of the string during its movement. According to the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 11, the string guide 19 is tubular and defines an inner channel configured to allow the string 15 to pass through. Advantageously, the inner channel opens into the outer peripheral wall of the body 12.
[0096] 2 to 5, the rotation accessory 6 includes a coupling member 21, and the drive wheel 14 includes a coupling component 22 configured to be mechanically coupled to the coupling member 21 when the body 12 is secured to the lid 5, to transmit rotational motion from the drive wheel 14 to the rotation accessory 6. Advantageously, the coupling member 21 and the coupling component 22 each have a polygonal cross-section, e.g., a hexagon.
[0097] According to the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 11, the lid 5 includes a central through-hole 23, and the coupling member 21 is configured to be arranged facing the through-hole or to protrude through the central through-hole. Advantageously, the coupling component 22 is configured to cooperate directly with the coupling member 21 by a male / female type mechanical coupling. According to the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 11, the coupling component 22 is a female coupling component and the coupling member 21 is a male coupling component. However, the coupling component 22 could also be a male coupling component and the coupling member 21 a female coupling component.
[0098] As shown more particularly in FIGS. 2 and 6, the pull string actuation device 11 is self-contained and configured to be removable relative to the lid 5 .
[0099] To this end, the kitchen appliance 2 comprises a locking system 23 configured to temporarily and reversibly secure the body 12 of the pull-string actuation device 11 to the lid 5. The locking system 23 further comprises: prohibiting rotational movement of the body 12 relative to the lid 5 and along the axis of rotation A when the body 12 is fixed to the lid 5; - preventing translational movement of the body 12 relative to the lid 5 in a direction of movement D parallel to the axis of rotation A when the body 12 is fixed to the lid 5; When the body 12 is fixed to the lid 5, it prevents translational movement of the body 12 relative to the lid 5 in a plane of movement P perpendicular to the axis of rotation A.
[0100] The locking system 23 is configured to lock the body 12 translationally and rotationally relative to the lid 5 when the body 12 is secured to the lid 5. Advantageously, the locking system 23 is more particularly configured to prevent any movement of the body 12 relative to the lid 5, up to the nearest functional clearance, when the body 12 is secured to the lid 5.
[0101] According to the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 11, the locking system 23 comprises a fixing device 24 configured to temporarily and reversibly fix the body 12 of the pull string drive 11 to the lid 5 and prevent translational movement of the body 12 relative to the lid 5 in the direction of movement D.
[0102] More specifically, the fixing device 24 includes two fixing members 25, such as fixing brackets, fixing pins, or fixing clamps, at least partially housed in the main body 12 and arranged opposite each other. The two fixing members 25 are attached so as to be movable relative to the main body 12 between a fixing position in which the first fixing member 25 and the second fixing member 25 are adjacent to each other and configured to cooperate with a fixing member 26 provided on the lid 5 and belonging to the fixing device 24 to fix the main body 12 to the lid 5, and a release position in which the two fixing members 25 are spaced apart and configured to release the fixing members 26, allowing the pull-string actuation device 11 to be removed from the lid 5.
[0103] As shown in Figures 5, 7 and 11, the two fixing members 25 are located at the bottom of the body 12 and are hinged to the body 12 around respective hinge pins that are configured to be parallel to the axis of rotation A when the body 12 is fixed to the lid 5.
[0104] Advantageously, the main body 12 comprises a lower housing 27 (see FIG. 2) that is open downwards and opens onto a lower surface of the main body 12. The lower housing 27 is configured to at least partially accommodate a fixing component 26 provided on the lid 5 when the main body 12 is fixed to the lid 5, and the two fixing members 25 are configured to protrude into the lower housing 27 when they occupy the fixed position. The lower housing 27 can have a polygonal cross section, for example a hexagon.
[0105] According to the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 11, the fixing component 26 is formed by a retaining rim (explained in more detail below) provided on the lid 5 and extending continuously around the axis of rotation A. However, the retaining rim can also extend discontinuously around the axis of rotation A. The two fixing members 25 are therefore more specifically configured to hook under the retaining rim when the two fixing members 25 occupy the fixed position.
[0106] 1 to 11, the locking device 24 comprises return means (not shown) configured to return the locking member 25 to the locked position, and an actuation mechanism 29 provided on the pull string drive device 11 and configured to move the locking member 25 to the released position when the actuation mechanism 29 is operated by a user. Advantageously, the actuation mechanism 29 comprises an actuation part 29.1 that is at least partially housed in the body 12 and configured to protrude through an opening in the body 31 provided in the outer peripheral wall of the body 12 and thus be accessible to the user.
[0107] 1 to 11, the actuation mechanism 29 further comprises two connecting arms 29.2 respectively attached to two fixed members 25 and mounted so as to be movable relative to each other. The actuation part 29.1 is more particularly provided on one of the connecting arms 29.2. Each connecting arm 29.2 can, for example, be made in a single part with its respective fixed member 25.
[0108] Advantageously, one of the connecting arms 29.2 is provided with a guide slot, e.g. in the shape of a circular arc, and the other connecting arm 29.2 is provided with a guide pin slidably mounted in the guide slot, so that when the user applies pressure to the actuation part 29.1, the guide pin slides in the guide slot and the two connecting arms 29.2 move radially in the direction of the axis of rotation A. Such movement of the two connecting arms 29.2 moves the two locking members 25 apart and thus into the release position.
[0109] The locking system 23 further comprises a rotational locking device 32 configured to prevent rotational movement of the body 12 relative to the lid 5 when the body 12 is secured to the lid 5, more specifically to prohibit rotational movement along the rotation axis A.
[0110] The rotation locking device 32 comprises a rotation locking member provided on the body 12 and a rotation locking component provided on the lid 5 and configured to cooperate with the rotation locking member when the body 12 is secured to the lid 5. Advantageously, the rotation locking member and the rotation locking component are also configured to align the central axis of the drive wheel 14 with the rotation axis A when the body 12 is secured to the lid 5.
[0111] According to the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 11, the rotation lock member is formed by the lower housing 27, and the rotation lock component comprises a rotation lock protrusion 34 provided on the upper surface of the lid 5 and configured to be oriented upward when the working unit 3 is resting on a horizontal surface.
[0112] The rotation locking projection 34 is configured, for example, to extend continuously or discontinuously around the rotation axis A and is arranged coaxially relative to the rotation axis A. Advantageously, the lower housing 27 is configured to at least partially accommodate the rotation locking projection 34 when the body 12 is fixed to the lid 5, and the rotation locking projection 34 has a shape complementary to that of the lower housing 27. The rotation locking projection 34 is advantageously polygonal in shape, for example hexagonal in shape.
[0113] According to the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 11, the rotation locking projection 34 is a locking rib 35 extending from the upper surface of the lid 5 and configured to face upward when the working unit 3 is resting on a horizontal surface; a retaining rim (forming the fixed component 26) projecting laterally outward from the locking rib 35 and away from the axis of rotation A;
[0114] The rotation locking projection 34 therefore has a hook-shaped cross section so that the two fixing members 25 are optimally hooked together when they occupy the fixed position. Advantageously, the locking rib 35 and the retaining rim define a ring-shaped retaining housing 37 which extends around the rotation axis A and is configured to at least partially accommodate the two fixing members 25.
[0115] 1-11 , rotation locking projection 34 defines a central housing 38 having a bottom wall 39 in which central through-hole 23 is formed. Bottom wall 39 includes a bottom surface 41 that extends around and converges downwardly toward central through-hole 23. This configuration of rotation locking projection 34 and lid 5 allows any liquid food that may have splashed through central through-hole 23 when rotation accessory 6 is rotated to be contained and redirected toward central through-hole 23 and, therefore, toward bowl 4.
[0116] 1 to 11 , the rotational locking member and rotational locking component are further configured to prevent translational movement of the body 12 relative to the lid 5 in the plane of movement when the body 12 is secured to the lid 5. However, according to another embodiment of the invention, the locking system 23 may comprise a rotational locking device separate from the translational locking device 32, configured to prevent movement of the body 12 relative to the lid 5 in the plane of movement when the body 12 is secured to the lid 5.
[0117] According to an embodiment of the invention not shown in the figures, the fixing device 24 may include one or more fixing component(s) provided on the lid 5, said or each fixing component 26 comprising a fixing hole configured to at least partially receive a respective fixing member 25, such as a hook tab provided on the body 12, when said fixing member 25 occupies a fixed position. The fixing device 24 may comprise, for example, two fixing brackets each having a fixing hole on the lid 5, or two fixing hoops each defining a fixing hole on the lid 5.
[0118] According to an embodiment of the invention not shown in the figures, the working unit 3 is attached to the lid 5 and comprises a drive interface configured to be rotatably attached to a coupling member 21, the drive interface configured to cooperate with a coupling member 22 provided on the drive wheel 14 by a mechanical coupling to transmit rotational motion from the drive wheel 14 to the rotating accessory 6. For example, the drive interface can comprise a coupling housing configured to receive the coupling member 21.
