AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing embankment structures face challenges in maintaining strength during water overflow due to insufficient interaction between the wall and structures installed on top, leading to scouring and collapse.

Method used

Implementing an impermeable structure that overhangs from the outer edge of the embankment wall with a specific horizontal overhang length, connected to the embankment height, to divert overflow water away from the wall, using formulas to determine optimal overhang length based on embankment height and ground conditions.

Benefits of technology

The solution enhances the embankment's strength by maintaining ground support for the wall during flooding, preventing scouring and collapse, even when foundation ground is washed away.

Abstract

To improve strength of an embankment when water overflows by interaction with a structure installed on a levee crown part and a wall body, in the embankment reinforced with the wall body.SOLUTION: An embankment comprises: a first wall body which is cast into a portion on a water area side of a dam body; a second wall body which is cast into a portion on a side opposite to the water area of the dam body; and an impermeable structure which is installed in an area including at least an upper part of the second wall body and extends from the outermost edge of the second wall body to the side opposite to the water area with a horizontal extension length B that satisfies formulas (i) and (ii) in relation to a dam height H, and has the dam height H of 6 m or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
