Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a connector. [Background technology]
[0002] In a connector, an electric wire with a terminal is accommodated in a housing. The electric wire with a terminal has a terminal metal fitting connected to the end of the electric wire, and a load may be applied from the electric wire to the terminal metal fitting. For example, in an electric wire with a terminal, the electric wire is pulled out of the housing, and when a load (e.g., a tensile load in the axial direction or a torsional load around the axis, etc.) is applied to the electric wire outside the housing, the load may be transmitted to the terminal metal fitting. In addition, for example, in some electric wires with terminals, the electric wire is bent and routed in the housing, and the reaction force of the bent part of the electric wire may be transmitted as a load to the terminal metal fitting. In a connector, if an excessive load is applied from the electric wire to the terminal metal fitting, it is not desirable in terms of ensuring the durability of the electric wire with a terminal. For this reason, in conventional connectors, the electric wire pulled out from the terminal metal fitting is held in the housing to prevent the input of an overload from the electric wire to the terminal metal fitting. For example, the following Patent Document 1 discloses a connector provided with a holding member for holding the electric wire. The holding member inserts the electric wire between a pair of pressure contact blades while cutting through the insulation displacement coating, and holds the electric wire with each of the pressure contact blades. [0003] [Patent Document 1] JP 2003-331982 A Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0004] However, conventional connectors require the provision of a holding member having a pair of insulation displacement blades, and there is still room for improvement in terms of preventing the input of an overload to the terminal fittings.
[0005] SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT EMBODIMENTS An object of the present invention is to provide a connector that is capable of providing a suitable function for preventing the input of an overload to a terminal fitting. [Means for solving the problem]
[0006] The present invention comprises an electric wire with a terminal having a terminal fitting connected to an end of the electric wire, a housing that accommodates and holds the electric wire with the terminal and allows the electric wire to be pulled outward from a first opening, and a cover that is assembled to the housing and closes a second opening of the housing, the second opening is an opening that is perpendicular to the first opening and connected to the first opening, exposing the end of the electric wire and the terminal fitting inside the housing, the end of the electric wire is provided with a deformed portion that is partially crushed between the terminal fitting and the first opening, the deformed portion has at least one crushed surface that is crushed into a flat shape, and one of the housing and the cover is provided with a wire holding portion that inserts the deformed portion and holds the deformed portion at a position where the housing and the cover are assembled, and the wire holding portion clamps and holds the crushed surface of the inserted deformed portion and a back side of the crushed surface.
[0007] The present invention also provides a housing comprising: an electric wire with a terminal having a terminal fitting connected to an end of the electric wire; an annular fixing member assembled and fixed to a part of the end of the electric wire; a housing that accommodates and holds the electric wire with terminal and allows the electric wire to be pulled outward from a first opening; and a cover assembled to the housing and closing a second opening of the housing, the second opening being an opening perpendicular to the first opening and connected to the first opening, exposing the end of the electric wire and the terminal fitting inside the housing; the fixing member having at least one flat portion on its outer circumferential surface; and one of the housing and the cover is provided with an electric wire holding portion that holds the end of the electric wire via the fixing member when the fixing member is inserted at a position where the housing and the cover are completely assembled, and the electric wire holding portion clamps and holds the flat portion of the inserted fixing member and a back side of the flat portion. Effect of the Invention
[0008] In the connector according to the present invention, the deformed portion of the end of the electric wire in the terminal-attached electric wire is held by the electric wire holding portion of either the housing or the cover. Therefore, in this connector, the load input to the end of the electric wire is unlikely to be transmitted beyond the deformed portion to the terminal fitting. Furthermore, the electric wire holding portion sandwiches and holds the crushed surface of the deformed portion and the back side of the crushed surface. Therefore, in this connector, the electric wire holding portion and the deformed portion can suppress the rotation of the end of the electric wire around the axis, so that the torque caused by the twisting of the end of the electric wire is unlikely to be transmitted to the terminal fitting. Therefore, the connector according to the present invention can suppress the input of the load from the end of the electric wire to the terminal fitting, and has a suitable function of suppressing the input of an overload to the terminal fitting. Therefore, the connector according to the present invention can maintain the quality of the electrical connection between the end of the electric wire and the terminal fitting.
[0009] In addition, in the connector according to the present invention, the fixing member provided on the end of the electric wire of the terminal-attached electric wire is held by the electric wire holding portion of either the housing or the cover. Therefore, in this connector, the load input to the end of the electric wire is unlikely to be transmitted to the terminal fitting beyond the assembly position of the fixing member. Furthermore, the electric wire holding portion sandwiches and holds the flat portion of the fixing member and the back side of the flat portion. Therefore, in this connector, the electric wire holding portion and the fixing member can suppress the rotation of the end of the electric wire around the axis, so that the torque caused by the twisting of the end of the electric wire is unlikely to be transmitted to the terminal fitting. [0011] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Hereinafter, an embodiment of a connector according to the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. However, the present invention is not limited to this embodiment.
[0012] [Embodiment] One embodiment of a connector according to the present invention will be described with reference to Figures 1 to 6. The technology described below can also be applied to an electric junction box.
[0013] Reference numeral 1 shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 denotes a connector of this embodiment.
[0014] The connector 1 includes a terminal-fitted electric wire 10 (FIGS. 1 and 2).
[0015] The electric wire with terminal 10 includes an electric wire 20 and a terminal fitting 30 connected to an end of the electric wire 20 (FIGS. 1, 2, and 4). The electric wire 20 and the terminal fitting 30 may be connected in any manner. The terminal fitting 30 shown here is provided with a terminal connection portion 31 that physically and electrically connects the electric wire 20 to a mating terminal fitting (not shown), and is provided with two electric wire connection portions 32 each having a pair of pressure-connecting blades 32a (FIGS. 1, 2, and 4). The end of the electric wire 20 is inserted between the pair of pressure-connecting blades 32a in each of the electric wire connection portions 32. At the end of the electric wire 20, the pair of pressure-connecting blades 32a cuts through the coating 21, while the pair of pressure-connecting blades 32a bites into the core wire 22, thereby physically and electrically connecting the core wire 22 to the terminal fitting 30 (FIGS. 1, 2, and 4). The core wire 22 may be a columnar solid-wire conductor, or may be a stranded wire formed by bundling a plurality of wires.
[0016] The connector 1 shown here is equipped with a cable 10A (a so-called VVF cable: vinyl insulated vinyl sheathed flat-type cable) in which a plurality of electric wires 20 are arranged in a direction perpendicular to the axis and housed in a cylindrical sheath 25, with the end of each electric wire 20 protruding from an opening at the end of the sheath 25 (FIGS. 1, 2 and 4). Here, three electric wires 20 are housed in the sheath 25.
[0017] The connector 1 includes a housing 40 that receives and holds the terminal-fitted electric wire 10 (FIGS. 1 to 3).
[0018] The housing 40 is molded from an insulating material such as synthetic resin. The housing 40 has a first opening 40a through which the electric wire 20 is pulled out to the outside, and a second opening 40b that is perpendicular to the first opening 40a and connected to the first opening 40a (FIGS. 1 and 5). In the housing 40, the first opening 40a and the second opening 40b serve as insertion openings for accommodating the electric wire 20 and the terminal fitting 30 inside. The second opening 40b allows the end of the electric wire 20 and the terminal fitting 30 inside the housing 40 to be exposed.
[0019] The housing 40 has a cylindrical fitting portion 41 that accommodates the terminal connection portion 31, and an accommodating portion 42 that accommodates the end of the electric wire 20 and the electric wire connection portion 32 (FIGS. 1 to 3 and 5). The first opening 40a and the second opening 40b are formed in the accommodating portion 42. Thus, the second opening 40b can expose the end of the electric wire 20 and the electric wire connection portion 32 in the accommodating portion 42. Here, the fitting portion 41 is formed in a square cylindrical shape. Here, the accommodating portion 42 is formed to have a rectangular shaped accommodating chamber, and the first opening 40a and the second opening 40b form rectangular openings.
[0020] An end of the cable 10A is accommodated in this housing 40. Here, the ends of the electric wires 20, the terminal fittings 30, and the sheaths 25 are accommodated in the housing 40, and the electric wires 20 are pulled out together with the sheaths 25 from the first openings 40a. In the accommodating portion 42, partition walls 43 are provided between the terminal fittings 30 (FIGS. 1 and 5).
[0021] Here, in the electric wire with terminal 10, the distance between adjacent terminal fittings 30 is regulated by law. Therefore, in the accommodating portion 42, the ends of the electric wires 20 of each electric wire with terminal 10 are appropriately bent to ensure the regulated distance between the adjacent terminal fittings 30. Here, the end of the electric wire 20 disposed in the center is not bent, but the ends of the electric wires 20 at both ends are bent into a crank shape. In other words, the ends of the electric wires 20 at both ends have bent portions 23 bent into a crank shape (FIGS. 1, 2, and 4).
[0022] The connector 1 includes a cover 50 that is attached to the housing 40 to close the second opening 40b (FIGS. 1 to 3, 5, and 6). The cover 50 is made of an insulating material such as synthetic resin. The cover 50 includes a rectangular, flat cover body 51 that closes the second opening 40b (FIGS. 1 to 3, 5, and 6).
[0023] In this connector 1, the input of a load from the electric wire 20 to the terminal fitting 30 is suppressed by holding the end of the electric wire 20 in the housing 40. First, the end of the electric wire 20 is provided with a deformed portion 24 that is partially crushed between the terminal fitting 30 and the first opening 40a (FIGS. 1, 2, and 4). Then, either the housing 40 or the cover 50 is provided with an electric wire holding portion that holds the deformed portion 24. The electric wire holding portion may be a part separate from the housing 40 and the cover 50 that is assembled to either the housing 40 or the cover 50, or may be molded as a part of either the housing 40 or the cover 50. Here, the cover 50 is provided with an electric wire holding portion 52 (FIGS. 1, 2, and 6). Then, the electric wire holding portion 52 is formed as a part of the cover 50 together with the cover body 51 when the cover 50 is molded.
[0024] The deformation portion 24 has at least one crushed surface 24a that is crushed into a flat shape (FIGS. 1, 2, and 4). In addition, when the end of the electric wire 20 has a bent portion 23, the deformation portion 24 is provided on the terminal fitting 30 side of the bent portion 23 (FIGS. 1, 2, and 4).
[0025] The wire holding portion 52 holds the deformed portion 24 at the position where the housing 40 and the cover 50 are assembled, by inserting the deformed portion 24 and pinching the crushed surface 24a of the inserted deformed portion 24 and the back side of the crushed surface 24a (FIGS. 2 and 6). The wire holding portion 52 protrudes in a plate shape from the inner wall surface of the cover body 51 (FIGS. 2 and 6). The wire holding portion 52 also has an insertion portion 52a into which the deformed portion 24 is inserted (FIGS. 1, 2, and 6). The insertion portion 52a is a notch-shaped gap formed in the wire holding portion 52, and the distance between one end face and the other end face in the gap is narrower than the distance between the crushed surface 24a of the deformed portion 24 and the back side of the crushed surface 24a (FIGS. 2 and 6). Therefore, the deformation portion 24 is held in the insertion portion 52a by sandwiching the crushing surface 24a and the back side of the crushing surface 24a between one end face and the other end face of the deformation portion 24. The distance between one end face and the other end face of the insertion portion 52a is narrower than the wire diameter of the electric wire 20 (FIGS. 2 and 6). Therefore, the end of the electric wire 20 can be locked in the electric wire holding portion 52 in the axial direction. Therefore, the electric wire holding portion 52 also functions to prevent the electric wire 20 from coming off from the housing 40 when the electric wire 20 is pulled in the axial direction, for example.
[0026] The deformation portion 24 shown here has two crushing surfaces 24a arranged in parallel, and one crushing surface 24a and the other crushing surface 24a are sandwiched by the electric wire holding portion 52 (FIGS. 4 and 6). In the electric wire holding portion 52, the deformation portion 24 is inserted into the insertion portion 52a from the opening, and one crushing surface 24a is slid onto one end surface constituting the insertion portion 52a, and the other crushing surface 24a is slid onto the other end surface constituting the insertion portion 52a, while the deformation portion 24 is pushed into the depth of the insertion portion 52a. As a result, the deformation portion 24 is held in the insertion portion 52a with one crushing surface 24a and the other crushing surface 24a sandwiched between the one end surface and the other end surface.
[0027] The electric wire holding portion 52 has an insertion portion 52a for each of the deformed portions 24 of the electric wire with terminal 10 (FIGS. 2 and 6).
[0028] Incidentally, the deformed portion 24 may be formed by crushing a part of the end of the electric wire 20 while leaving the coating 21, or by crushing an exposed core portion that is exposed by stripping off a part of the coating 21 at the end of the electric wire 20. The end of the electric wire 20 shown here has an exposed core portion that is exposed by stripping off a part of the coating 21 to expose the core 22, and the part where this exposed core portion is crushed is defined as the deformed portion 24 (FIG. 4).
[0029] In the connector 1 of this embodiment, for example, the terminal fittings 30 are assembled in advance to the housing 40, and the electric wire 20 (cable 10A) is assembled to the cover 50 (FIGS. 5 and 6). Then, in this connector 1, the housing 40 with the terminal fittings 30 and the cover 50 with the electric wire 20 (cable 10A) are assembled (FIG. 5). In this connector 1, the electric wire 20 is connected to the electric wire connecting portion 32 of the terminal fitting 30 when the housing 40 and the cover 50 are assembled.
[0030] In the connector 1 of the present embodiment described above, the deformed portion 24 of the end of the electric wire 20 in the electric wire with terminal 10 is held by the electric wire holding portion 52 of the cover 50 (or the housing 40). Therefore, in this connector 1, the load input to the end of the electric wire 20 is unlikely to be transmitted beyond the deformed portion 24 to the terminal fitting 30 side. Furthermore, the electric wire holding portion 52 sandwiches and holds the crushed surface 24a of the deformed portion 24 and the back side of the crushed surface 24a. Therefore, in this connector 1, the electric wire holding portion 52 and the deformed portion 24 can suppress the rotation of the end of the electric wire 20 around the axis, so that the torque caused by the twisting of the end of the electric wire 20 is unlikely to be transmitted to the terminal fitting 30. Therefore, the connector 1 of the present embodiment can suppress the input of the load from the end of the electric wire 20 to the terminal fitting 30, and has a suitable function of suppressing the input of an overload to the terminal fitting 30. Therefore, the connector 1 of this embodiment can maintain the quality of the electrical connection between the end of the electric wire 20 and the terminal fitting 30.
[0031] In the connector 1 of this embodiment, the end of the electric wire 20 is held by the electric wire holding portion 52 without changing the routing path of the terminal-attached electric wire 10 in the housing 40. That is, in order to hold the end of the electric wire 20 in the housing 40, the connector 1 does not require unnecessary bending of the electric wire 20 other than the routing path of the end of the electric wire 20. Therefore, the connector 1 of this embodiment does not require an increase in size of the housing 40 due to unnecessary bending of the electric wire 20, and therefore it is possible to suppress an increase in size for holding the end of the electric wire 20 in the housing 40.
[0032] Furthermore, in the connector 1 of this embodiment, by providing the electric wire holding portion as a part of either the housing 40 or the cover 50, it is not necessary to provide an electric wire holding portion as a dedicated part separate from the housing 40 and the cover 50. Therefore, in the connector 1 of this embodiment, it is not necessary to assemble an electric wire holding portion as a dedicated part to either the housing 40 or the cover 50, and therefore productivity can be improved.
[0033] [Variations] The connector 2 of this modification is obtained by modifying the structure for holding the ends of the electric wires in the connector 1 of the above-described embodiment. Therefore, in the following description of this modification, the same reference numerals as those in the embodiment denote the same parts, portions, etc. as those in the embodiment. Also, descriptions that overlap with those in the embodiment will be omitted here.
[0034] In the connector 2 of this modification, the cover 50 of the embodiment is replaced with a cover 150 described below (FIG. 7). Like the cover 50 of the embodiment, the cover 150 of this modification is molded from an insulating material such as synthetic resin, and has a rectangular flat cover body 151 that closes the second opening 40b of the housing 40 (FIG. 7).
[0035] The connector 2 of this modified example includes an annular fixing member 160 that is assembled and fixed to a portion of the end of the electric wire 20 (FIG. 7). This fixing member 160 is assembled at a position equivalent to the deformed portion 24 provided at the end of the electric wire 20 in the embodiment. Note that the end of the electric wire 20 of this modified example may be provided with the deformed portion 24 similar to that of the embodiment, or such a deformed portion 24 may not be provided. Here, the end of the electric wire 20 is not provided with a deformed portion 24.
[0036] The fixing member 160 is fixed to the end of the electric wire 20, for example, by crimping the fixing member 160 to a part of the end of the electric wire 20. The fixing member 160 may be attached to the part of the end of the electric wire 20 with the coating 21 remaining, or may be attached to an exposed core portion that is exposed by stripping off the coating 21 from a part of the end of the electric wire 20.
[0037] Specifically, fixing member 160 has at least one flat surface 161 on its outer circumferential surface (FIG. 7). For example, fixing member 160 may have an outer circumferential surface formed by one arc-shaped surface such as a kamaboko shape and one flat surface 161, or may have a polygonal ring shape. Fixing member 160 shown here is molded in a rectangular ring shape and has four flat surfaces 161.
[0038] Either the housing 40 or the cover 150 is provided with an electric wire holding portion that holds the fixing member 160. The electric wire holding portion may be a component separate from the housing 40 and the cover 150 that is assembled to either the housing 40 or the cover 150, or may be molded as a part of either the housing 40 or the cover 150. Here, the cover 150 is provided with an electric wire holding portion 152 (FIG. 7). The electric wire holding portion 152 is formed as a part of the cover 150 together with the cover main body 151 when the cover 150 is molded.
[0039] The electric wire holding portion 152 holds the end of the electric wire 10 via the fixing member 160 at the completed assembly position of the housing 40 and the cover 150 by inserting the fixing member 160, and sandwiches and holds the flat portion 161 of the inserted fixing member 160 and the back side of the flat portion 161 (FIG. 7). The electric wire holding portion 152 protrudes in a rectangular shape from the inner wall surface of the cover body 151. The electric wire holding portion 152 also has an insertion portion 152a into which the fixing member 160 is inserted (FIG. 7). The insertion portion 152a is a chamber into which the fixing member 160 is inserted from an opening and fitted, and sandwiches and holds the two flat portions 161 of the fixing member 160, and also sandwiches and holds each wall surface in the axial direction at the outer periphery of the fixing member 160. Thus, the end of the electric wire 20 is held by the electric wire holding portion 152 via the fixing member 160. When the end of the electric wire 20 is pulled in the axial direction, the axial wall surface at the outer periphery of the fixing member 160 is engaged with the inner wall surface of the insertion portion 152a, so that the end of the electric wire 20 is prevented from coming off the housing 40.
[0040] Here, the fixing member 160 is provided for each of the terminal-fitted electric wires 10 in the cable 10A (FIG. 7). The electric wire holding portion 152 has an insertion portion 152a for each fixing member 160 (FIG. 7). In addition, when the end of the electric wire 20 has a bent portion 23, the fixing member 160 is provided on the terminal fitting 30 side of the bent portion 23 (FIG. 7).
[0041] In the connector 2 of the present modification shown above, the fixing member 160 provided at the end of the electric wire 20 of the electric wire with terminal 10 is held by the electric wire holding portion 152 of the cover 150 (or the housing 40). Therefore, in this connector 2, the load input to the end of the electric wire 20 is unlikely to be transmitted to the terminal fitting 30 beyond the assembly position of the fixing member 160. Furthermore, the electric wire holding portion 152 sandwiches and holds the flat portion 161 of the fixing member 160 and the back side of the flat portion 161. Therefore, in this connector 2, the electric wire holding portion 152 and the fixing member 160 can suppress the rotation of the end of the electric wire 20 around the axis, so that the torque caused by the twisting of the end of the electric wire 20 is unlikely to be transmitted to the terminal fitting 30. Therefore, the connector 2 of the present modification can suppress the input of the load from the end of the electric wire 20 to the terminal fitting 30, and has a suitable function of suppressing the input of an overload to the terminal fitting 30. Therefore, the connector 2 of this modified example can maintain the quality of the electrical connection between the end of the electric wire 20 and the terminal fitting 30.
[0042] In the connector 2 of this modification, similarly to the connector 1 of the embodiment, the end of the electric wire 20 is held by the electric wire holding portion 152 without changing the routing path of the electric wire with terminal 10 in the housing 40. That is, in order to hold the end of the electric wire 20 in the housing 40, the connector 2 does not require unnecessary bending of the electric wire 20 other than the routing path of the end of the electric wire 20. Therefore, the connector 2 of this modification does not require an increase in size of the housing 40 due to unnecessary bending of the electric wire 20, and therefore it is possible to suppress an increase in size for holding the end of the electric wire 20 in the housing 40.
