Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus, an image forming method, and a program.
Background Art
[0002] Conventionally, an image forming apparatus that forms an image on a sheet of paper is known. In a conventional image forming apparatus, even when the type of paper (paper type) set in the paper feed tray is different from the type of paper set by the user, it is possible to perform an image forming process. However, depending on the combination of the type of paper set in the paper feed tray and the type of paper set by the user, there is a risk of causing problems during image formation. The problems include, for example, image quality degradation and paper jams.
[0003] Therefore, Patent Document 1 discloses a configuration in which a sensor provided on the paper conveyance path automatically detects the type of paper being fed. In the configuration described in Patent Document 1, it is determined whether or not the detected paper type and the paper type set by the user satisfy a prohibited condition. If the prohibited condition is satisfied, a warning regarding the image forming process is displayed according to a predetermined condition. This can prevent image quality degradation and paper jams during the image forming process.

Embodiments for Carrying Out the Invention
[0017] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.
[0018] As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the image forming apparatus 1 according to the present embodiment includes a control unit 11, an image reading unit 12, an image forming unit 13, a storage unit 14, an operation panel 15, a communication unit 16, and a media sensor 17.
[0019] The control unit 11 includes a CPU, a RAM, a ROM, etc. First, the CPU reads out various processing programs stored in the ROM according to an instruction signal and expands them in the RAM. The instruction signal is an operation signal input from the operation unit 152 or received by the communication unit 16. Next, the CPU comprehensively controls the operation of the image forming apparatus 1 in cooperation with the various programs expanded in the RAM.
[0020] The image reading unit 12 reads an image of a document placed on a document table or an automatic document feeder (ADF) (not shown) to obtain an image signal. Specifically, the image reading unit 12 scans and exposes the image of the document by the optical system of a scanning exposure device, reads the reflected light by a line image sensor, and obtains an image signal. The image signal is input to the control unit 11 as image data after being subjected to processes such as A / D conversion, shading correction, and compression. Note that the image data input to the control unit 11 is not limited to that read by the image reading unit 12. For example, it may be image data received from an external device (not shown) via the communication unit 16.
[0021] The image forming unit 13 forms an image composed of four colors of C, M, Y, and K on paper according to the pixel values of four colors of each pixel of the image-processed original image. The image forming unit 13 includes four writing units 131, an intermediate transfer belt 132, a secondary transfer roller 133, a fixing unit 134, etc.
[0022] The four writing units 131 are arranged in series (tandem) along the belt surface of the intermediate transfer belt 132 to form images of each color of C, M, Y, and K. Each writing unit 131 has the same configuration except for the color of the image to be formed. Each writing unit 131 includes a light scanning unit 131a, a photoreceptor 131b, a developing unit 131c, a charging unit 131d, a cleaning unit 131e, and a primary transfer roller 131f.
[0023] At the time of image formation, in each writing unit 131, first, the charging unit 131d charges the photoreceptor 131b. Next, the photoreceptor 131b is scanned with a light beam emitted from the light scanning unit 131a based on the original image to form an electrostatic latent image. When the developing unit 131c supplies and develops a coloring material such as toner, an image (toner image) is formed on the photoreceptor 131b. The images respectively formed on the photoreceptors 131b of the four writing units 131 are sequentially transferred (primary transfer) and overlapped onto the intermediate transfer belt 132 by their respective primary transfer rollers 131f. Thereby, an image composed of each color is formed on the intermediate transfer belt 132. The intermediate transfer belt 132 is an image carrier that is wound around a plurality of rollers and rotates. After the primary transfer, the cleaning unit 131e removes the coloring material remaining on the photoreceptor 131b.
[0024] In the image forming unit 13, the paper is fed in accordance with the timing when the image on the rotating intermediate transfer belt 132 reaches the position of the secondary transfer roller 133. In the image forming unit 13, the paper is fed from the manual feed tray T1 or the paper feed tray T2. One of the pair of rollers of the secondary transfer roller 133 is in pressure contact with the intermediate transfer belt 132. Also, the other roller of the pair constitutes one of the plurality of rollers that wind around the intermediate transfer belt 132. Next, by the pressure contact of the secondary transfer roller 133, the image is transferred (secondary transfer) from the intermediate transfer belt 132 onto the paper. Next, the paper is conveyed to the fixing unit 134 for fixing processing, and then discharged to the discharge tray T3. The fixing process is a process of heating and pressing the paper by the fixing roller 134a to fix the image on the paper. When forming images on both sides of the paper, the paper is conveyed to the reverse path 135 to reverse the paper surface, and then the paper is fed again to the position of the secondary transfer roller 133.
[0025] The storage unit 14 is a non-volatile storage means composed of an HDD, an SSD, etc. The storage unit 14 can read and write various programs, various setting data, etc. from and to the control unit 11.
[0026] The operation panel 15 includes a display unit 151 that displays various information to the user, and an operation unit 152 that receives operation inputs by the user. The display unit 151 is composed of a color liquid crystal display or the like, and displays an operation screen or the like in accordance with the display control signal input from the control unit 11. The operation screen is, for example, various setting screens, various buttons, the operation status of each function, etc. The operation unit 152 includes a touch panel provided on the screen of the display unit 151 and various hard keys arranged around the screen of the display unit 151. When a button displayed on the screen is pressed with a finger, a touch pen, or the like, the operation unit 152 first detects the XY coordinates of the pressed force point as voltage values. Next, the operation unit 152 outputs an operation signal associated with the detected position to the control unit 11. Note that the touch panel is not limited to a pressure-sensitive type, and may be, for example, an electrostatic type or an optical type. Also, when a hard key is pressed, the operation unit 152 outputs an operation signal associated with the pressed key to the control unit 11. The user can operate the operation unit 152 to perform settings related to image formation, paper conveyance instructions, and device stop operations. The settings related to image formation are, for example, image quality settings, magnification settings, application settings, output settings, and paper settings.
[0027] The communication unit 16 has a communication IC, a communication connector, and the like, and is an interface for connecting the image forming apparatus 1 to a communication network. Under the control of the control unit 11, the communication unit 16 transmits and receives various information to and from an external device connected to the communication network using a predetermined communication protocol. Also, the communication unit 16 can input and output various information via USB.
[0028] The media sensor 17 is installed on the paper conveyance path leading to the image forming unit 13. The media sensor 17 reads the paper fed from the manual feed tray T1 or the paper feed tray T2 and detects the paper information of the paper. The paper information is information including the paper type of the paper. The detected paper information is output to the control unit 11. That is, the media sensor 17 functions as a detection unit of the present invention that detects the paper information of the paper.
[0029] Next, the control of the image forming apparatus 1 according to the present embodiment will be described with reference to the flowchart of FIG. 3. The control in FIG. 3 starts when a print job is input.
[0030] First, the control unit 11 acquires the paper information set by the user via the operation unit 152 (step S101). That is, the operation unit 152 functions as the setting unit of the present invention for setting the paper information of the paper. The paper information is information including the paper type of the paper.
[0031] Next, the control unit 11 acquires the paper information detected by the media sensor 17 (step S102).
[0032] Next, the control unit 11 determines whether the paper information (setting information) acquired in step S101 and the paper information (detection information) acquired in step S102 match (step S103). That is, the control unit 11 functions as the determination unit of the present invention for determining whether the paper information set by the operation unit 152 and the paper information detected by the media sensor 17 match. When the control unit 11 determines that the paper information matches (step S103: YES), it proceeds to step S114 without making a setting change. On the other hand, when the control unit 11 determines that the paper information does not match (is inconsistent) (step S103: NO), it proceeds to the next step S104.
[0033] Next, the control unit 11 determines whether the notification setting is ON (step S104). The notification setting is a setting for notifying the user that the paper information is inconsistent. The notification to the user is performed by causing the display unit 151 to display that the paper information is inconsistent. When the control unit 11 determines that the notification setting is ON (step S104: YES), it proceeds to the next step S105. On the other hand, when the control unit 11 determines that the notification setting is not ON (is OFF) (step S104: NO), it proceeds to step S114 without making a setting change. In this case, even if the paper information is inconsistent, printing will continue.
[0034] Next, the control unit 11 causes the display unit 151 to display a screen (paper information setting change screen G1) for changing the setting related to the paper information (paper type) (step S105).
[0035] FIG. 4 shows an example of the paper information setting change screen G1. The paper information setting change screen G1 is provided with an automatic setting button B1, a setting change button B2, a guidance display button B3, and a close button B4. The automatic setting button B1 is a button for changing the setting method of the paper information from manual setting to automatic setting. The manual setting is a setting via the operation unit 152 by the user. The automatic setting is a setting for automatically setting the paper information detected by the media sensor 17. The setting change button B2 is a button for changing the setting from the paper information set by manual setting to the paper information detected by the media sensor 17. The guidance display button B3 is a button for displaying guidance for explaining the setting method of the paper information. The close button B4 is a button for closing the paper information setting change screen G1.
[0036] The setting by the automatic setting button B1 is a setting for selecting whether to select a mode for determining the image forming conditions based on the paper information (detected information) detected by the media sensor 17. When the user selects a mode for determining the image forming conditions based on the detected information instead of the setting information, the user presses the automatic setting button B1. The setting by the setting change button B2 is a setting for determining whether to determine the image forming conditions in the image forming unit 13 based on the paper information detected by the media sensor 17. When the user determines the image forming conditions based on the detected information instead of the setting information, the user presses the setting change button B2. The setting by the guidance display button B3 is a setting for determining whether to display guidance for setting the paper. When the user wants to display the guidance, the user presses the guidance display button B3. As described above, the paper information setting change screen G1 includes the setting by the automatic setting button B1, the setting by the setting change button B2, and the setting by the guidance display button B3.
[0037] In addition, on the paper information setting change screen G1, a mismatch notification area E1 is provided to notify that the paper information is mismatched. In the mismatch notification area E1, the set paper and the detected paper are respectively displayed. The set paper is the paper information set by the operation unit 152. The detected paper is the paper information detected by the media sensor 17. In the example shown in FIG. 4, the set paper is "plain paper" and the detected paper is "recycled paper", and an example where the paper information is mismatched is displayed. That is, the control unit 11 can display on the display unit 151 that the paper information set by the operation unit 152 and the paper information detected by the media sensor 17 do not match.
[0038] Next, the control unit 11 determines whether to enable automatic setting (step S106). Specifically, the control unit 11 determines whether the automatic setting button B1 has been pressed on the paper information setting change screen G1. When the automatic setting button B1 is pressed, the control unit 11 determines to enable automatic setting. When the control unit 11 determines to enable automatic setting (step S106: YES), it proceeds to the next step S107. On the other hand, when the control unit 11 determines not to enable automatic setting (step S106: NO), it proceeds to step S108.
[0039] In step S107, the control unit 11 changes the setting method of the paper information to automatic setting and displays that fact on the screen. After that, the control unit 11 ends the process. FIG. 5 shows an example of how the fact that the setting method of the paper information has been changed to automatic setting is displayed on the display unit 151. In the example shown in FIG. 5, a message "The setting method of the paper information has been automatically changed" is displayed.
[0040] In step S108, the control unit 11 determines whether to change the setting of the paper information (paper setting). Specifically, the control unit 11 determines whether the setting change button B2 has been pressed on the paper information setting change screen G1. When the setting change button B2 is pressed, the control unit 11 determines to change the setting of the paper information. When the control unit 11 determines to change the setting of the paper information (step S108: YES), it proceeds to the next step S109. On the other hand, when the control unit 11 determines not to change the setting of the paper information (step S108: NO), it proceeds to step S110.
[0041] In step S109, the control unit 11 changes the setting of the paper information to the detected information and displays that fact on the screen. The detected information is the paper information detected by the media sensor 17. Then, the control unit 11 ends the process. FIG. 6 shows an example of a state in which the fact that the setting of the paper information has been changed to the detected information is displayed on the display unit 151. In the example shown in FIG. 6, a message "The paper setting has been changed" is displayed. Also, the fact that the paper setting has been changed from the set information (○○ paper) to the detected information (×× paper) (○○ paper → ×× paper) is specifically displayed.
[0042] In step S110, the control unit 11 determines whether the guidance display has been selected. Specifically, the control unit 11 determines whether the guidance display button B3 has been pressed on the paper information setting change screen G1. When the guidance display button B3 is pressed, the control unit 11 determines that the guidance display has been selected. When the control unit 11 determines that the guidance display has been selected (step S110: YES), it proceeds to the next step S111. On the other hand, when the control unit 11 determines that the guidance display has not been selected (step S110: NO), it proceeds to step S112.
[0043] In step S111, the control unit 11 causes the display unit 151 to display guidance for explaining the method of setting paper information. The guidance is, for example, a method of presenting detailed information on the paper type to the user (such as "Recycled paper is... paper"). Also, a message such as "Please check the description on the paper package you are using" may be presented. Also, a list of items to be confirmed may be displayed and checked when the OK button has been confirmed. Note that instead of causing the display unit 151 to display the guidance, a QR code (registered trademark) may be displayed. In this case, the above-described guidance will be displayed on the display unit of the terminal that has read the QR code (registered trademark).
[0044] In step S112, the control unit 11 determines whether an operation has been performed by the user to manually change the paper settings. When the control unit 11 determines that an operation to manually change the paper settings has been performed (step S112: YES), a setting change corresponding to the operation is made (step S113). Then, the control unit 11 proceeds to step S114. On the other hand, when the control unit 11 determines that an operation to manually change the paper settings has not been performed (step S112: NO), it proceeds to step S114.
[0045] In step S114, the control unit 11 controls the image forming unit 13 to form an image on the paper according to the image forming conditions determined based on the setting of the paper information (paper settings). The paper settings are at least one of the paper information set by the operation unit 152 and the paper information detected by the media sensor 17. That is, the image forming unit 13 forms an image on the paper according to the image forming conditions determined based on at least one of the paper information set by the operation unit 152 and the paper information detected by the media sensor 17. Then, the control unit 11 ends the process.
[0046] As described above, when it is determined that the paper information does not match (step S103: NO), the control unit 11 causes the display unit 151 to display a setting screen related to the paper in the print job. The setting screen related to the paper is, for example, the screens shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, or a screen with guidance displayed (see step S111). That is, the control unit 11 functions as the display control unit of the present invention. In the present embodiment, when it is determined that the paper information does not match, the control unit 11 causes the display unit 151 to display a setting screen related to the paper next to the paper for which the mismatch was determined.
[0047] As described above, the image forming apparatus 1 according to the present embodiment includes a setting unit (operation unit 152), a detection unit (media sensor 17), an image forming unit 13, a determination unit (control unit 11), and a display control unit (control unit 11). The setting unit sets the paper information of the paper. The detection unit detects the paper information of the paper. The image forming unit 13 forms an image on the paper according to the image forming conditions determined based on at least one of the paper information set by the setting unit and the paper information detected by the detection unit. The determination unit determines whether or not the paper information set by the setting unit matches the paper information detected by the detection unit. The display control unit causes the display unit to display a setting screen related to the paper in the print job when the determination unit determines that the paper information does not match. Therefore, when it is determined that the paper information does not match, a screen for re-setting the paper information can be displayed. Thereby, an image forming process can be performed under appropriate image forming conditions. Thus, the image quality of the image formed on the paper can be improved. Also, the occurrence of problems such as paper jams can be suppressed.
[0048] Further, the display control unit displays at least one of the settings among the setting for selecting whether to select a mode for determining the image forming conditions based on the paper information detected by the detection unit on the setting screen, the setting for determining whether to determine the image forming conditions in the image forming unit 13 based on the paper information detected by the detection unit, and the setting for displaying guidance for setting the paper. Therefore, when it is determined that the paper information does not match, a screen for re-setting the paper information can be displayed. As a result, the image forming process can be performed under appropriate image forming conditions. Thus, the image quality of the image formed on the paper can be improved. In addition, the occurrence of problems such as paper jams can be suppressed.
[0049] In addition, the display control unit can display on the display unit 151 that the paper information set by the setting unit and the paper information detected by the detection unit do not match. Therefore, it is possible to notify the user that it is necessary to change the setting because the paper information does not match. Thus, the user can be prompted to change the setting of the paper information.
[0050] In addition, when it is determined that the paper information set by the setting unit and the paper information detected by the detection unit do not match, the display control unit causes the display unit 151 to display a setting screen for the paper next to the paper for which the mismatch was determined. Therefore, the setting of the paper information can be changed in real time. Thus, the occurrence of problems can be suppressed earlier.
[0051] As described above, although specifically described based on the embodiments according to the present invention, the present invention is not limited to the above embodiments and can be changed without departing from the gist thereof.
[0052] For example, in the above embodiment, when it is determined that the paper information does not match, a setting screen for the paper is displayed, but the present invention is not limited to this. For example, when it is determined that the paper information does not match, control to cancel the ongoing print job may be executed. In this case, the control unit 11 functions as the print control unit of the present invention. As described above, by providing the print control unit (control unit 11), the occurrence of problems can be more reliably suppressed. In addition, sufficient time can be secured to change the setting of the paper information.
[0053] Further, when it is determined that the sheet information is inconsistent, control may be executed to store the setting information (sheet information set by the operation unit 152) and the detection information (sheet information detected by the media sensor 17) in the storage unit 14. Further, when it is determined that the sheet information is inconsistent, control may be executed to transmit the setting information and the detection information to the outside (such as a server device). In the above case, the control unit 11 functions as the information control unit of the present invention. As described above, by providing the information control unit (control unit 11), it is possible to accumulate information when the sheet information is inconsistent. Thereby, it is possible to analyze the factor causing the sheet information to be inconsistent. Therefore, it is possible to suppress the sheet information from becoming inconsistent.
[0054] In addition, regarding the detailed configuration of each device constituting the image forming apparatus and the detailed operation of each device, it can be appropriately changed within a range not departing from the gist of the present invention.
