[0023] FIG. 1 is a block diagram showing the configuration of a display system 1 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In this embodiment, an example where the display system 1 is mounted on an automobile will be described. The display system 1 includes a semiconductor device 10, a microcomputer 12 (microcontroller), an external memory 14, a graphic controller 16, and a display device 20. The graphic controller 16 is mounted on an image processing board B1. The semiconductor device 10, the microcomputer 12, and the external memory 14 are mounted on a cluster board B2.
[0024] The graphic controller 16 may include a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) or the like. The graphic controller 16 is connected to the semiconductor device 10 via a video transmission line L1. The graphic controller 16 generates video data D1 to be transmitted to the semiconductor device 10.
[0025] The semiconductor device 10 may include a timing controller, a bridge circuit, a repeater circuit, a serializer / deserializer, a splitter, a replicator, a selector, a switch, a hub, etc. In this embodiment, the semiconductor device 10 is a timing controller.
[0026] Normally, the semiconductor device 10 receives video data D1 from the graphic controller 16 and can superimpose OSD characters on the video data D1 according to the control by the microcomputer 12. The superimposed OSD characters may be characters indicating display lights, warning lights, etc. The output image data Dout including the video data with the OSD characters superimposed is transmitted to the display device 20. Note that the output image data Dout may not have the OSD characters superimposed.
[0027] The indicator lights and warning lights displayed on the display device 20 are important information for the driver. Therefore, as in this embodiment, it is preferable that the OSD display is controlled by a controller (semiconductor device 10) independent of the graphic controller 16.
[0028] The microcomputer 12 integrally controls the display system 1. The microcomputer 12 and the semiconductor device 10 are connected via a control line L2 that is a different system from the video transmission line L1. An I2C interface or SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) can be used for the control line L2.
[0029] The microcomputer 12 may transmit various signals to the semiconductor device 10 for display on the display device 20. For example, the microcomputer 12 may transmit a signal indicating the operating state of the microcomputer 12 and a signal for controlling the OSD function of the semiconductor device 10 to the semiconductor device 10.
[0030] The external memory 14 stores data related to OSD characters. The external memory 14 is not particularly limited and may be a flash memory or an EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory), for example. The data of the external memory 14 is transmitted to the semiconductor device 10 via the data transmission line L3.
[0031] The display device 20 displays an image based on the output image data Dout. The display device 20 includes a display panel 200, a gate driver 202, and a source driver 204. The display panel 200 may be composed of a liquid crystal panel or an organic EL (Electro-Luminescence) panel, etc.
[0032] The display panel 200 displays an image based on the output image data Dout. Specifically, the display panel 200 can display an image based on video data with OSD characters superimposed thereon. Note that the display panel 200 may display an image that does not include OSD characters.
[0033] The display panel 200 may be composed of, for example, a liquid crystal panel or the like. The display panel 200 according to the present embodiment is composed of a meter cluster panel mounted on an automobile and can display various types of information necessary for driving the automobile. The display panel 200 may display, for example, indicator lights and warning lights, and may also display a speedometer and a travel distance.
[0034] The display panel 200 includes a pixel array. The pixel array has a plurality of pixel circuits arranged in a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns, a plurality of gate lines GL respectively provided corresponding to the plurality of rows, and a plurality of source lines SL respectively provided corresponding to the plurality of columns.
[0035] The gate driver 202 sequentially selects a plurality of gate lines GL of the pixel array at predetermined time intervals. The source driver 204 writes a voltage of a level corresponding to the data transmitted from the semiconductor device 10 to each pixel circuit corresponding to the gate line GL selected by the gate driver 202 via each source line SL. By sequentially writing voltages, an image is displayed on the display panel 200.
[0036] FIG. 2 is a block diagram of the semiconductor device 10 according to the present embodiment. As shown in FIG. 2, the semiconductor device 10 according to the present embodiment includes an input interface 100, an OSD control unit 120, an acquisition unit 140, a determination unit 160, and a storage unit 180.
[0037] The input interface 100 receives video data D1 from the graphic controller 16. The video frame D2 constituting the video data D1 is transmitted to the OSD control unit 120.
[0038] The OSD control unit 120 generates output image data Dout in which OSD characters are superimposed on video data D1 based on OSD data Dosd including OSD characters. Specifically, the OSD control unit 120 superimposes OSD characters on the video frame D2 to generate the output image data Dout. The generated output image data Dout is transmitted to the display device 20 and the acquisition unit 140. On the display device 20, an image based on the output image data Dout is displayed.
[0039] The number of OSD characters to be superimposed by the OSD control unit 120 may be one or two or more. By the OSD control unit 120 superimposing a plurality of OSD characters on the video data D1 to generate the output image data Dout, an image including a plurality of OSD characters can be displayed.
[0040] The acquisition unit 140 executes a process for acquiring determination data Dcrc for determining whether or not the OSD characters are normally superimposed on the output image data Dout. The acquisition unit 140 according to the present embodiment acquires the determination data Dcrc by performing a CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) calculation on the pixels constituting the output image data Dout.
[0041] The acquisition unit 140 may perform a CRC calculation on the pixels constituting the target area where the OSD characters are drawn in the output image data Dout, and acquire the calculation result as the determination data Dcrc. Note that the acquisition unit 140 may refer to data D3 (such as a generated polynomial, etc.) necessary for the CRC calculation from the storage unit 180.
[0042] In this embodiment, the acquisition unit 140 calculates an 8-bit CRC for each pixel constituting the target area, and acquires an 8-bit CRC value obtained by adding the calculation results as determination data Dcrc. Thereby, data with a relatively small capacity (8 bits in this embodiment) can be stored as determination data. Note that the acquisition unit 140 may perform CRC calculations not limited to 8 bits, such as 16 bits or 32 bits.
[0043] The acquisition unit 140 may perform CRC calculation by using the pixel value of the pixel constituting the OSD character in the target area as the color value of the OSD character, and using the pixel value of the pixel constituting the background area in the target area as a fixed value. Since the background area changes dynamically, by setting the pixel value of the pixel constituting the background area as a fixed value, it becomes possible to acquire determination data with a simpler process.
[0044] The acquisition unit 140 may perform CRC calculation by using the average value of the color values of the background area as the pixel value of the pixel constituting the background area. Thereby, it becomes possible to generate the determination data Dcrc including the information of the background area.
[0045] When a plurality of OSD characters are superimposed on the output image data Dout, the acquisition unit 140 may acquire determination data for each of the plurality of OSD characters. The determination data for each of these plurality of OSD characters may be stored in the storage unit 180 or transmitted to the determination unit 160. Thereby, it becomes possible to provide determination data to the user for each of the plurality of OSD characters.
[0046] The determination unit 160 determines whether or not the OSD characters are normally superimposed on the output image data Dout based on the determination data Dcrc. The data Ddet indicating the determination result may be stored in the storage unit 180. In the present embodiment, the determination unit 160 compares the 8-bit CRC value included in the determination data Dcrc with the 8-bit reference CRC value corresponding to the OSD characters to be superimposed on the output image data Dout. When these CRC values match, the determination unit 160 determines that the OSD characters are normally superimposed on the output image data Dout, and when these CRC values do not match, the determination unit 160 determines that the OSD characters are not normally superimposed on the output image data Dout.
[0047] Note that when calculating the CRC, if the pixel values of the pixels constituting the background area are set to a constant value, the reference CRC value becomes a predetermined value. On the other hand, when the pixel values of the pixels constituting the background area are set to the average value of the color values of the background area, for example, the average value of the color values of the background area may be calculated by a background calculation unit (not shown), and the reference CRC value may be dynamically changed according to the calculation result.
[0048] The storage unit 180 is an internal memory that stores various types of information. The storage unit 180 may store, for example, OSD data Dosd for the OSD control unit 120 to superimpose OSD characters. This OSD data Dosd may be stored in the storage unit 180 from the external memory 14.
[0049] The storage unit 180 may store, for example, programs for the acquisition unit 140 and the determination unit 160 to execute various processes. Further, the storage unit 180 may store data D3 (specifically, data necessary for CRC calculation) for the acquisition unit 140 to acquire the determination data Dcrc. Further, the storage unit 180 stores information for determining whether or not the OSD characters are normally superimposed on the output image data Dout. Specifically, the storage unit 180 stores the determination data Dcrc, the reference CRC value, and the like.
[0050] FIG. 3 is a block diagram of the acquisition unit 140 according to the present embodiment. As shown in FIG. 3, the acquisition unit 140 includes a color extraction unit 142 and a CRC calculation unit 144.
[0051] The color extraction unit 142 extracts the color values of the pixels constituting the OSD character from the target area where the OSD character of the output image data Dout is drawn. Here, the color value of each pixel constituting the frame of the output image data Dout is referred to as (R1, G1, B1). In addition, each pixel is given an OSD_α which is an α value indicating transparency. The color extraction unit 142 discriminates the drawing area corresponding to the OSD character and the background area around the OSD character based on the OSD_α. Specifically, the color extraction unit 142 discriminates the area where the OSD_α is equal to or greater than a predetermined value as the drawing area, and discriminates the area where the OSD_α is less than the predetermined value as the background area.
[0052] The color extraction unit 142 extracts the color values (R2, G2, B2) of the pixels constituting the drawing area. The extracted color values (R2, G2, B2) are transmitted to the CRC calculation unit 144. On the other hand, the color extraction unit 142 sets the pixel values of the pixels constituting the background area to a constant value (for example, zero, etc.). The color extraction unit 142 may set the pixel values of the pixels constituting the background area to the average of the color values of the background area in the target area. As a result, the CRC calculation unit 144 acquires the data of the target area in which the pixels constituting the drawing area are extracted with the color values (R2, G2, B2), and the pixels constituting the background area are set to a constant value. The data Dback including the pixel values of the pixels constituting the background area is transmitted to the CRC calculation unit 144 together with the color values (R2, G2, B2).
[0053] The CRC calculation unit 144 performs CRC calculation on the pixels constituting the target area where the OSD characters are drawn in the output image data Dout, and obtains the calculation result as determination data Dcrc. Specifically, the CRC calculation unit 144 performs CRC calculation on the pixel values of each pixel constituting the target area transmitted from the color extraction unit 142. Each time the CRC calculation unit 144 performs CRC calculation on each pixel value, it calculates an 8-bit CRC value and successively adds the calculated CRC values. At this time, the number of bits of the CRC value after addition is appropriately adjusted so that the CRC value after addition is maintained at 8 bits. The CRC calculation unit 144 obtains, as determination data Dcrc, the result (8-bit value) obtained by calculating the CRC value for all the pixels in the target area.
[0054] With reference to FIGS. 4 and 5, an example of the flow in which the acquisition unit 140 acquires the determination data Dcrc will be described. FIG. 4 is a diagram showing an example of OSD data 300 including an OSD character 302. FIG. 5 is a diagram showing an example of output image data 320 with an OSD character 332 superimposed thereon.
[0055] As shown in FIG. 4, the OSD data 300 includes an OSD character 302 and a background area 304 around it. The OSD character 302 is an opaque area having a unique color for each OSD character. In the example shown in FIG. 4, the OSD character 302 is a single color of red, that is, the pixel value of each pixel constituting the OSD character 302 is a red color value. The background area 304 is a colorless and transparent area, that is, each pixel constituting the background area 304 is colorless and transparent.
[0056] The output image data 320 shown in FIG. 5 includes a target area 330 where the OSD character 332 is drawn. The area of the target area 330 excluding the OSD character 332 is the background area 334. In the example of the output image data 320 shown in FIG. 5, the OSD character 332 is drawn on the image of the car navigation. Note that in FIG. 5, the target area 330 is shown as a part of the frame of the output image data 320, but the target area 330 may be the entire frame. Also, FIG. 5 shows an example where one OSD character 332 is superimposed, but a plurality of OSD characters may be superimposed.
[0057] The color extraction unit 142 extracts the color values of the pixels constituting the OSD character 332. When the OSD character 332 is normally superimposed, a red color value is extracted from the pixels corresponding to the OSD character 302 of the OSD data 300. On the other hand, when the OSD character 332 is not normally superimposed, a color value other than red is extracted from at least a part of the pixels corresponding to the OSD character 302 of the OSD data 300. The color extraction unit 142 sets the pixel values of the pixels constituting the background area 334 to a constant value (for example, zero).
[0058] The CRC calculation unit 144 performs CRC calculation for each pixel in the target area 330 based on the color value extracted from the OSD character 332 and the value set for the background area 334. Thereby, the determination data Dcrc for the OSD character 332 is obtained. When a plurality of OSD characters are superimposed, the CRC calculation unit 144 may obtain determination data for each of the plurality of OSD characters. Specifically, the CRC calculation unit 144 may perform CRC calculation for each of the plurality of target areas where the plurality of OSD characters are respectively drawn.
[0059] FIG. 6 is a block diagram showing the configuration of a semiconductor device 90 according to the related art. The semiconductor device 90 according to the related art includes an input interface 100, an OSD control unit 120, and a determination unit 92. In FIG. 6, components having the same functions as those of the semiconductor device 10 according to the above embodiment are denoted by the same reference numerals, and their descriptions are omitted as appropriate.
[0060] The determination unit 92 according to the related art compares the output image data Dout with the OSD character superimposed thereon and the OSD data Dosd to determine whether the OSD character is normally superimposed, and outputs determination result data D4 indicating the determination result. Specifically, the determination unit 92 compares the color values of each pixel constituting the OSD character for the output image data Dout and the OSD data Dosd. When the color values match for all pixels, the determination unit 92 determines that the OSD character is normally superimposed, and when there is even one pixel for which the color values do not match, the determination unit 92 determines that the OSD character is not normally superimposed.
[0061] The user can check whether the OSD character is normally superimposed by referring to the determination result data D4. However, when the determination unit 92 is not operating properly, there is a possibility that the determination result data D4 indicating that the OSD character is normally superimposed is output even though the OSD character is not normally superimposed. Therefore, the user cannot confirm the validity of the determination result by referring only to the determination result data D4.
[0062] On the other hand, according to the semiconductor device 10 according to the above embodiment, the acquisition unit 140 executes a process for acquiring determination data Dcrc for determining that the OSD characters are normally superimposed on the output image data Dout. This determination data Dcrc is stored by the storage unit 180. Therefore, according to the semiconductor device 10 according to the present embodiment, it is possible to provide data for determining whether or not the OSD characters are normally superimposed on the output image data Dout. By referring to the determination data Dcrc stored in the storage unit 180, the user can confirm the objective basis of the determination result by the determination unit 160.
[0063] (Modification example) In the above embodiment, mainly, an example in which the acquisition unit 140 acquires, as determination data, the result of performing CRC calculation on the output image data Dout has been described. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and the acquisition unit 140 may acquire, as determination data, data obtained by executing a process such as a checksum or a parity check.
[0064] The acquisition unit 140 may acquire, as determination data, the color difference between the pixels constituting the OSD characters of the output image data Dout and the pixels constituting the OSD characters included in the OSD data. Specifically, the acquisition unit 140 may calculate the color difference between each pixel constituting the OSD characters of the output image data Dout and each pixel constituting the OSD characters included in the OSD data, and acquire, as determination data, data indicating the color difference of each pixel.
[0065] In the above embodiment, mainly, an example in which the acquisition unit 140 acquires, as determination data, data obtained by performing various processes such as CRC calculation on the output image data Dout has been described. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and the acquisition unit 140 may acquire the output image data Dout itself as determination data and store the output image data Dout in the storage unit 180. By referring to the output image data Dout, the user can confirm whether the OSD characters are normally superimposed.
[0066] In the above-described embodiment, the acquisition unit 140 has been described as an example of acquiring determination data mainly based on the color values of the pixels of the output image data Dout. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and the acquisition unit 140 may use luminance or lightness as the pixel value. In this case, the average value of luminance or lightness may be used as the pixel value constituting the background area.
[0067] In the above-described embodiment, an example in which the pixel values of the pixels constituting the background area are set to a constant value has been mainly described. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and the pixel values may be the actual color values constituting the background area.
[0068] In the above-described embodiment, an example of mainly controlling an image displayed on a liquid crystal cluster panel has been described. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and the technology of the present disclosure can also be applied to a HUD (Head Up Display) and an electronic mirror.
[0069] (Supplementary Explanation) Regarding the embodiments according to the present disclosure, specific terms have been used for the description. However, this description is merely an exemplification for assisting understanding, and does not limit the present disclosure or the scope of the claims. The scope of the present invention is defined by the scope of the claims.
