Data Port. A data ports is a small wall outlet (resembling a telephone jack) that delivers Mercer network (Internet) services to campus locations, including residence halls. In Mercer residences, the data port is labeled with a BLUE tab.

Virtual ports for data transferring of a data storage system

A storage controller has at least one physical data port for a data network including host processors. The storage controller is programmed to provide a plurality of virtual ports for access to storage, and a virtual switch for routing storage access requests from the physical port to the virtual ports. The virtual ports and the virtual switch are defined by software. The virtual ports appear to the hosts as physical ports in the data network. For example, in a Fiber-Channel network, the virtual ports have World Wide Names (WWNs) and are assigned temporary addresses (S_Ds), and the virtual switch provides a name server identifying the WWNs and S_IDs of the virtual ports. For convenient partitioning of storage among host processors, one or more virtual ports are assigned to each host, and a set of storage volumes are made accessible from each virtual port. A host can access storage at a virtual port only if the virtual port has been assigned to the host. Preferably, storage can be accessed through each virtual port by no more than one assigned host, although a shared volume may be accessible from more than one virtual port. The storage controller may provide a service for reporting to a host the virtual ports through which the host can access storage, and the storage volumes that are accessible to the host through each of the virtual ports.

Linkable digital cameras for an image capture system

A system of linked digital cameras for an image capture system is disclosed. A first and second digital camera can be linked to capture a first images and a second image that are used to form a stereo image. A first data port on the first digital camera and a second data port on the second digital camera intercommunicate data between each other when the cameras are linked. The data can include the first and second image data, camera control data, and camera synchronization data. After capturing the first and second images, the image from one of the cameras can be transferred to the other camera so that both the first and second images reside in the other camera. The system allows a user who wishes to capture stereo images the ability to do so with out having to purchase two digital cameras. A compatible digital camera can be borrowed from another user for the purpose of stereo image capture. After the stereo image is captured, the user transfers both images to his camera and returns the borrowed camera. The cameras can be equipped with viewfinders that allow a user of the cameras to view the image being captured in stereo. The viewfinders can be adjustable to accommodate variations in user interpupillary distance. A digital camera operating system (OS) can be customized to enable stereo image capture, image data handling, image processing, and camera control for the linked digital cameras.

Multiprocessor node controller circuit and method

Improved method and apparatus for parallel processing. One embodiment provides a multiprocessor computer system that includes a first and second node controller, a number of processors being connected to each node controller, a memory connected to each controller, a first input / output system connected to the first node controller, and a communications network connected between the node controllers. The first node controller includes: a crossbar unit to which are connected a memory port, an input / output port, a network port, and a plurality of independent processor ports. A first and a second processor port connected between the crossbar unit and a first subset and a second subset, respectively, of the processors. In some embodiments of the system, the first node controller is fabricated onto a single integrated-circuit chip. Optionally, the memory is packaged on plugable memory / directory cards wherein each card includes a plurality of memory chips including a first subset dedicated to holding memory data and a second subset dedicated to holding directory data. Further, the memory port includes a memory data port including a memory data bus and a memory address bus coupled to the first subset of memory chips, and a directory data port including a directory data bus and a directory address bus coupled to the second subset of memory chips. In some such embodiments, the ratio of (memory data space) to (directory data space) on each card is set to a value that is based on a size of the multiprocessor computer system.

Controlled electro-pneumatic power tools and interactive consumable

A controlled electro-pneumatic power tool includes an electro-mechanical adjustable valve, a pneumatic motor and a rotational speed sensor connected to a microcontroller for the selection, monitoring and adjustement of the rotational speed in real time. The electro-pneumatic power tool may include input buttons, data ports to save data and a communication port to read / write data from an interactive consumable. The electo-pneumatic power tool may also include a battery and a generator as well as a variable speed transmission with flexible shaft and lightweight handpiece. Using the communication port, important data for the consumable, such as optimum rotation speed, optimum applied pressure and average usage time, can be transmitted to the controlled electro-pneumatic power tool. The controlled electro-pneumatic power tool can read and utilise the transmitted data to select, adjust and maintain the optimum process parameters for the consumable without any input from the operator person. Furthermore, the communicated data can be used to warn the operator person that the tool used is inadequate for the selected consumable, to caution the operator person if he is using the consumable inadequately and to advise him when the consumable should be replaced for safe operation. This will increase the safety of the operator person, improve the quality of the work performed with pneumatic power tools and limit potential damages to the parts being treated.
