8018 results about "Power tool" patented technology

A power tool is a tool that is actuated by an additional power source and mechanism other than the solely manual labor used with hand tools. The most common types of power tools use electric motors. Internal combustion engines and compressed air are also commonly used. Other power sources include steam engines, direct burning of fuels and propellants, such as in powder-actuated tools, or even natural power sources such as wind or moving water. Tools directly driven by animal power are not generally considered power tools.

Surgical apparatus and tools for same

A surgical power tool includes a hand unit and a tool holder. The tool holder engages a hub of a tool to hold the tool during use. One tool holder includes a substantially planar support surface, a pair of spaced-apart sidewalls protruding from the support surface, each sidewall having at least one tab extending from the sidewall toward the other of the sidewalls. A tool clamp, including a post protrudes from the support surface with an enlarged head at a distal end thereof. A lock button protrudes from the support surface, the lock button being depressible toward the support surface. Another tool holder includes an output shaft having a driven end and a free end, the free end of the output shaft having a slot formed therein. A collet is disposed coaxially with the output shaft and is rotatable relative thereto. The collet has a collet wall extending between the first and second ends of the collet. The collet has a plurality of slots in the first end of the collet, a plurality of grooves in an inner surface of the collet wall, and a plurality of internal ridges protruding from the inner surface of the collet wall.

Surgical apparatus and power module for same, and a method of preparing a surgical apparatus

A surgical power tool includes a hand unit and a detachable power module received in the hand unit to provide power to the hand unit. The power module includes a housing, an electric motor in the housing to provide mechanical energy to the hand unit, an electrical power supply in the housing to provide electrical energy to the electric motor, and an electronic controller in the housing for controlling the electric motor. Since the power module is received in the hand unit, there is no need for the power module to be sterilized.

System and method for managing the operation of a battery powered surgical tool and the battery used to power the tool

A surgical power tool system including a cordless powered surgical tool, a battery for energizing the tool and a charger for charging the battery. The battery includes a memory. When the battery is attached to the tool, a processor integral with the tool writes data to the memory regarding the operation of the tool. When the battery is attached to the charger, the data are read out the battery memory. These data are then evaluated to determine the operational state of the tool.

Amperage control for protection of battery over current in power tools

Amperage control of a power tool motor is provided by pulse width modulation of current from a power supply. The pulse width modulation may be varied according to the determined motor current and measured power supply voltage. The power supply preferably includes a battery, such a lithium ion or nickel cadmium.

Power tools

Power tool (11) may include a motor and oil pulse unit (22) that generates an elevated torque. Oil pulse unit (22) may be coupled to the motor and have output shaft (18). When load acting on output shaft (18) is less than a predetermined value, rotating torque generated by the motor is directly transmitted to output shaft (18). When the load acting on output shaft (22) exceeds the predetermined value, an elevated torque is generated by oil pulse unit (22) and applied to output shaft (18). Output shaft (18) may be connected to load shaft (12). A socket may be attached to the distal end of load shaft (12). Power tool (11) may further include detecting device (20) for detecting change in rotational angle of output shaft (18) and the direction of rotation thereof, and a control device. The detecting device (20) may output signals corresponding to a state of output shaft (18) to the control device. The control device may store the state of output shaft (18) at predetermined interval. Preferably, the control device may further determine a generating time, at which oil pulse unit (22) generates the elevated torque, based upon the state of output shaft (18).

Hammer drill attachment

Power tools of the type under consideration include hammer drills, for example, which are electric or battery powered and includes two modes of operation: a rotation mode and a rotation-hammer mode. A manually operable selector lever enables the hammer drill to be selectively operated in one of the two modes by disengaging and engaging a hammer mechanism. In rotation-hammer mode, the drive shaft of the hammer drill rotates a tool element about a rotational axis and oscillates the tool element along a rotational axis. An attachment mountable within the chuck of a hammer drill prevents a tool element from rotating when the hammer drill is operating in rotation-hammer mode. The hammer drill attachment transfers hammer action, but not rotation, to the tool element. The hammer drill attachment enables dual function power tools to be operated in a hammer only mode to perform a function, for example, chiseling.

Fuel level monitoring system for combustion-powered tools

A fuel cell includes a spark initiator configured to initiate spark events, and a fuel level monitoring system configured for monitoring the fuel level in the fuel cell and indicating the monitored fuel level to a user. Included in the fuel level monitoring system is a programmable control unit configured to control the spark initiator and to count the spark events initiated by the spark initiator, to compare a number of spark events with at least two predetermined ranges of spark events, and to determine the fuel level in the fuel cell based on the determinations. An indicator controlled by the programmable control unit is supplied for providing the user with an indication of the fuel level in the fuel cell.

Power tool

A power tool includes a body housing a motor with a first output shaft and an attachment for engagement with the output shaft. The attachment includes an output shaft which transmits rotational motion derived from the rotational motion of the motor and further includes a gear mechanism enabling a gear change in rotational speed between its input and output. A combination of the body and the attachment thereby provides a plurality of serially-coupled gear mechanisms.

Electrical power tool

A driver drill may have two battery attachment portions to which two rechargeable batteries can be attached. Therefore, the driver drill can meet a need for an increased voltage or an increased discharge capacity. Further, the two battery attachment portions may be constructed as slide-fitting battery attachment portions. A combined gravity center of the rechargeable batteries attached to the first and second battery attachment portions may be positioned on a vertical line through a gravity center of a tool main body in a condition in which the two rechargeable batteries are detached therefrom.
