Hammer drill attachment

Power tools of the type under consideration include hammer drills, for example, which are electric or battery powered and includes two modes of operation: a rotation mode and a rotation-hammer mode. A manually operable selector lever enables the hammer drill to be selectively operated in one of the two modes by disengaging and engaging a hammer mechanism. In rotation-hammer mode, the drive shaft of the hammer drill rotates a tool element about a rotational axis and oscillates the tool element along a rotational axis. An attachment mountable within the chuck of a hammer drill prevents a tool element from rotating when the hammer drill is operating in rotation-hammer mode. The hammer drill attachment transfers hammer action, but not rotation, to the tool element. The hammer drill attachment enables dual function power tools to be operated in a hammer only mode to perform a function, for example, chiseling.

Double-sided touch-sensitive panel with shield and drive combined layer

A multi-touch capacitive touch sensor panel can be created using a substrate with column and row traces formed on either side of the substrate. To shield the column (sense) traces from the effects of capacitive coupling from a modulated Vcom layer in an adjacent liquid crystal display (LCD) or any source of capacitive coupling, the row traces can be widened to shield the column traces, and the row traces can be placed closer to the LCD. In particular, the rows can be widened so that there is spacing of about 30 microns between adjacent row traces. In this manner, the row traces can serve the dual functions of driving the touch sensor panel, and also the function of shielding the more sensitive column (sense) traces from the effects of capacitive coupling.

Transfer tray for surgical sharps

The present invention is a dual function transfer tray that can be used for either a scalpel or a suturing needle holder with suturing needle. A scalpel slot is formed in the bottom of a relatively deep set of sloped walls. A suture needle cavity is formed above the first slot. However, at a mid-section of the scalpel slot and the half-cylindrical suture needle cavity are opposing and deep V-shaped cutaway sections in the sidewalls with a flat floor section between them. A user need never have to focus their attention for more than a split second to discern the location of the mid-section of the transfer tray. The user's thumb and forefinger are aimed at the V-shaped sidewall openings to grasp a midsection of a supported surgical sharps. The scalpel slot and half-cylindrical suture needle cavity are set relatively deep with respect to top edges of the transfer tray and the to form an open tray to prevent a user from being inadvertently injured by a scalpel blade or a suture needle. In addition, the scalpel cannot be placed in the scalpel slot unless it rests on one of its longitudinal edges, preferably the same one as that of its blade edge. Thus, a user grasping the mid-section of the scalpel handle in the cutaway and flat floor section picks up the scalpel in a ready-to-use position.

Virtual memory address translation mechanism with controlled data persistence

A memory address translation and related control system for performing the dual functions of converting virtual memory addresses generated by the CPU into real memory addresses in a highly efficient and versatile manner and for controlling certain memory functions such as journalling. The address translation function comprises two steps, the first comprising converting the virtual address into a second virtual address or an effective address and finally the step of converting the effective address into a real memory address. The first step utilizes a set of special registers addressable by a small field to the CPU generated virtual address which converts the virtual address into an expanded form. The second or effective address is then used as the subject of the second or address translation step. To greatly enhance the translation of frequently used virtual addresses, a special set of translation tables referred to herein as a Translation Look-Aside, Buffer (TLB) contain current effective to real address translations for use where frequently referenced addresses are requested. The TLBs are addressed using a subset of the effective address whereupon the contents of the addressed TLB is examined for a match with the effective address. If the addresses match a successful address translation is possible and the real address stored in the address field of the TLB is available for system use. If the desired effective address is not present in the TLB, the page frame tables stored in main memory are accessed and searched for the desired effective address and if found the associated real address is accessed. Further a special data field is provided in both the TLBs and the page frame tables in main memory wherein a bit is provided for each line in the referenced page at a given effective to real address translation which bits may be used to indicate when a line of data has been accessed or altered.

Integrated process and dual-function catalyst for olefin epoxidation

The invention discloses a dual-functional catalyst composition and an integrated process for production of olefin epoxides including propylene oxide by catalytic reaction of hydrogen peroxide from hydrogen and oxygen with olefin feeds such as propylene. The epoxides and hydrogen peroxide are preferably produced simultaneously in situ. The dual-functional catalyst comprises noble metal crystallites with dimensions on the nanometer scale (on the order of <1 nm to 10 nm), specially dispersed on titanium silicalite substrate particles. The dual functional catalyst catalyzes both the direct reaction of hydrogen and oxygen to generate hydrogen peroxide intermediate on the noble metal catalyst surface and the reaction of the hydrogen peroxide intermediate with the propylene feed to generate propylene oxide product. Combining both these functions in a single catalyst provides a very efficient integrated process operable below the flammability limits of hydrogen and highly selective for the production of hydrogen peroxide to produce olefin oxides such as propylene oxide without formation of undesired co-products.

Annular flow concentric tube recuperator

An annular flow concentric tube heat exchanger for heating two counter flowing fluid streams has been devised. Although capable of heating gases or liquids, the primary purpose of the invention is to function as an improved recuperator for recovering exhaust heat from a Brayton Cycle gas turbine engine, Ericsson Cycle engine or similar recuperated engine. The basic element of the recuperator is a concentric tube assembly that, in the preferred embodiment, is comprised of four concentric tubes that enclose three concentric annular flow passages. The low pressure exhaust flows through the inner and outer annular passages while the high pressure compressor exit air flows through the annular passage that is between the two low pressure passages. The high and low pressure flows are in opposite directions to achieve the high effectiveness that is only available with a counterflow heat exchanger. Heat is transferred from the exhaust gas to the compressor air though the tube walls on each side of the high pressure passage. Two low pressure passages are provided for each high pressure air passage to compensate for the lower pressure (and therefore lower density) of the exhaust gas. Multiple concentric tube assemblies are used to make a recuperator. The tube assemblies terminate in header assemblies located at each end of the concentric tube assemblies. The headers are made of simple plates and rings that serve the dual function of structurally locating the concentric tube assemblies and directing the flow to the proper passage in the concentric tube assemblies. High and low pressure flow tubes provide flow passages connecting the recuperator to the engine compressor air and exhaust tubing respectively. The annular flow concentric tube recuperator can be easily made from commercial tubing with minimal special tooling and is capable of very high effectiveness with very low pressure drop.

Biodegradable high performance hydrocarbon base oils

Discloses novel biodegradable high performance hydrocarbon base oils useful as lubricants in engine oil and industrial compositions, and process for their manufacture. A waxy, or paraffinic feed, particularly a Fischer-Tropsch wax, is reacted over a dual function catalyst to produce hydroisomerization and hydrocracking reactions, at 700° F.+ conversion levels ranging from about 20 to 50 wt. %, preferably about 25-40 wt. %, sufficient to produce a crude fraction, e.g., a C5-1050° F.+ crude fraction, containing 700° F.+ isoparaffins having from about 6.0 to about 7.5 methyl branches per 100 carbon atoms in the molecule. The methyl paraffins containing crude fraction is topped via atmospheric distillation to produce a bottoms fraction having an initial boiling point between about 650° F. and 750° F. which is then solvent dewaxed, and the dewaxed oil is then fractionated under high vacuum to produce biodegradable high performance hydrocarbon base oils.

Selective conversion of oxygenate to propylene using moving bed technology and a hydrothermally stabilized dual-function catalyst

The average propylene cycle selectivity of an oxygenate to propylene (OTP) process using a dual-function oxygenate conversion catalyst is substantially enhanced by the use of a combination of: 1) moving bed reactor technology in the hydrocarbon synthesis portion of the OTP flow scheme in lieu of the fixed bed technology of the prior art; 2) a hydrothermally stabilized and dual-functional catalyst system comprising a molecular sieve having dual-function capability dispersed in a phosphorus-modified alumina matrix containing labile phosphorus and / or aluminum anions; and 3) a catalyst on-stream cycle time of 400 hours or less. These provisions stabilize the catalyst against hydrothermal deactivation and hold the build-up of coke deposits on the catalyst to a level which does not substantially degrade dual-function catalyst activity, oxygenate conversion and propylene selectivity, thereby enabling maintenance of average propylene cycle yield near or at essentially start-of-cycle levels.
