A system and method for processor-based security is provided, for on-chip security and trusted computing services for software applications. A processor is provided having a processor core, a cache memory, a plurality of registers for storing at least one hash value and at least one encryption key, a memory interface, and at least one on-chip instruction for creating a secure memory area in a memory external to the processor, and a hypervisor program executed by the processor. The hypervisor program instructs the processor to execute the at least one on-chip instruction to create a secure memory area for a software area for a software module, and the processor encrypts data written to, and decrypts data read from, the external memory using the at least one encryption key and the verifying data read from the external memory using the at least one hash value. Secure module interactions are provided, as well as the generation of a power-on key which can be used to protect memory in the event of a re-boot event. Lightweight, run-time attestation reports are generated which include selected information about software modules executed by the processors, for use in determining whether the processor is trusted to provide secure services.

Methods and apparatus for constructing objects within a cache system thereby allowing the cache system to respond to requested objects that are not initially available within the cache system. One embodiment of the invention caches image files, where the images are divided into components and stored in a format that allows identification and access to the components. The cache system determines that an object, such as an image file, is missing from the cache memory, locates sufficient components from the cache memory and/or external storage, and constructs the object from the located components.

An electronic camera is provided with a touchscreen. When a cameraman touches the touchscreen on a principal subject in a captured image shown on the touchscreen, the touched portion is determined and the focus and exposure are adjusted in conformity with the principal subject. When the image is designated to be stored, positional information on the principal subject as well as image information is stored into a built-in memory or a detachable external memory. For this reason, wherever the principal subject is located on the image, the image-capturing is performed with favorable results. An efficient and effective power control system method are described with expedited recovery from a reduced power state. In one embodiment, a present invention power control system includes performing a reduced power detection process for detecting a reduced power state, wherein the reduced power state is associated with an expedited recovery; performing a reduced power state entry process; performing a recovery detection process for detecting a recover indication event; and performing an expedited recovery process in accordance with detection of a recovery indication event. The reduced power state entry process comprises saving an expedited recovery information in registers of an always on domain and putting an external memory in self refresh mode to preserve a system context while a chip is turned off. The expedited recovery process comprises determining whether to proceed with the expedited recovery process; initializing memory controller registers and directing memory controller to exit self refresh; validating system context recovered from memory using keys stored in an always on domain; jumping to recovery instructions in memory; restoring operating system information and returning to operating system control.

A thin flat panel display for aircraft cockpits. These displays use a dual CPU/graphics generator system to produce simulated aircraft instrumentation displays which are color coded to indicate when one of the graphic generators has not correctly received data from the aircraft system bus. The displays use standard graphic generators and CPUs, and do not require additional software. The displays also allow the aircraft systems to be continuously tested while the aircraft is on the ground. Moreover, the inventive systems include input touch devices which access external memories to display necessary flight and landing information which allow the cockpit crew to expand in detail the external information for display on the flat panels.

A network switch having a shared memory architecture for storing data frames includes configuration registers that are programmable by a host processor to adaptively adjust overflow buffer locations and flow control watermark levels based on monitored network traffic. The host processor allocates shared resources by setting memory configuration registers corresponding to an external memory, where the network switch uses the external memory for storing received data frames, Management Information Base (MIB) counter values, and output port overflow data. The host processor periodically reads the MIB counter values from the external memory, and adjusts flow control watermark levels or the memory configuration registers in the network switch based on rate-based network traffic derived from the MIB counter values. PCI burst transfers between the host processor and the external memory via the network switch ensure that stored data is not lost during reconfiguration of the external memory. The disclosed arrangement enables resources used by the network switch to be adjusted to minimize congestion by borrowing resources from network ports serving idle stations.

A memory device is attachable to a host computer system. The memory device includes an interface to couple the memory device to the host computer system. An encrypted file storage solution consists of a cluster of processing nodes, external data storage, and a software agent (the “File System Watcher”), which is installed on the application servers. Each virtual volume mapping at each storage system associating a virtual storage volume with a physical storage volume and/or one second virtual storage volume at one or more second storage systems. An access request is received at a first storage system specifying a virtual volume. It is determined on which storage system a physical storage volume associated with the specified virtual volume in the access request is located using the virtual volume mapping at the first storage system and/or the virtual volume mapping at one or more second storage systems. Access is provided to the physical storage volume based on which storage system the physical storage volume is located. Useful in Storage Area Networks and many configurations including 1 to 1, dual path, mirrored, and concatenated, etc.

The present invention may be regarded as a video recording system and method of enabling the recording of an external video data stream for a video program segment selected using an electronic program guide. The video recording system comprises a user interface that receives user input, a video input interface that receives the external video data stream for the selected video program segment, an isochronous interface connectable to an external rotating storage drive, and a video data management system. The video data management system uses the electronic program guide to select the video program segment in response to the user input. The video data management system recognizes connection of the external rotating storage drive to the video recording system and subsequently identifies the external rotating storage drive as available for video data storage. The video data management system uses the external video data stream for the video program segment to provide streaming video data, and routes at least a portion of the streaming video data to the external rotating storage drive via the isochronous interface in order to record the external video data stream for the video program segment.

A data storage system and method for simultaneously providing thin provisioning and high availability. The system includes external storage volume and two storage subsystems coupled together and to external storage volume. Each of storage subsystems includes disk drives and a cache area, each of the storage subsystems includes at least one virtual volume and at least one capacity pool. The virtual volume is allocated from storage elements of the at least one capacity pool. The capacity pool includes the disk drives and at least a portion of external storage volume. The storage elements of the capacity pool are allocated to the virtual volume in response to a data access request. The system further includes a host computer coupled to the storage subsystems and configured to switch input/output path between the storage subsystems. Each of the storage subsystems is adapted to copy received write I/O request to other storage subsystems. Upon receipt of request from another storage subsystem, storage element of the capacity pool of storage subsystem is prevented from being allocated to the virtual volume of that storage subsystem.

Systems and methods are provided for browsing miniaturized versions of images stored locally on a mobile device while allowing the associated full-sized image to be transferred to the mobile device as needed. In one embodiment of the invention, a method of viewing an image on the mobile device includes the steps of storing in the mobile device a miniaturized version of an image stored in the mobile device, transferring the image to an external storage device, and deleting the image from the mobile device. In response to the user of the mobile device selecting the miniaturized version of the image, the mobile device sends a wireless message to the external storage device requesting transfer of the full-sized image. The external storage device transfers the full-sized image to the mobile device in a second message and the mobile device is able to display the full-sized image.

A universal smart interface and peripheral management system for portable devices such as mobile phones. The smart system includes a connector interface that connects peripherals to a phone and/or personal digital assistant (PDA), through the smart system. The smart system includes a cradle for receiving a cell phone and interfacing the phone to external systems such as peripherals, networks and other systems through a USB hub and other suitable connector interfaces. The peripheral devices to which the smart system can interface include, but are not limited to, large displays (e.g., television), external monitors, input devices such as mice and keyboards, external storage devices, and networks (wired and/or wireless). Embodiments of the invention provide backup of virtual machine data and preferably simplify the backup system, especially in the virtual machine environment that uses an external storage subsystem. A system includes a storage system coupled via a network to a server and a management server. The storage system includes a plurality of storage volumes. The server includes virtual machines running thereon and has virtual machine data stored on the storage volumes. The management server comprises a processor, a memory, and a backup control module, which is configured to detect a virtual machine on the server which is suspended or terminated; identify one or more storage volumes which are used by the detected virtual machine; and direct the storage system to create a backup volume of the determined one or more storage volumes to back up data of the identified one or more storage volumes.
