Systems and methods for processing, transmitting, and displaying data received from a continuous analyte (e.g., glucose) sensor are provided. A sensor system can comprise a sensor electronics module that includes power saving features, e.g., a low power measurement circuit that can be switched between a measurement mode and a low power mode, wherein charging circuitry continues to apply power to electrodes of a sensor during the low power mode. The sensor electronics module can be switched between a low power storage mode and a higher power operational mode via a switch, e.g., a reed switch or optical switch. A validation routine can be implemented to ensure an interrupt signal sent from the switch is valid. The sensor can be physically connected to the sensor electronics module in direct wireless communication with a plurality of different display devices.

Ambulatory medical apparatus and method using a telemetry system with predefined reception listening

An implanted medical device (e.g. infusion pump) and an external device communicate with one another via telemetry messages that are receivable only during windows or listening periods. Each listening period is open for a prescribed period of time and is spaced from successive listening periods by an interval. The prescribed period of time is typically kept small to minimize power consumption. To increase likelihood of successful communication, the window may be forced to an open state, by use of an attention signal, in anticipation of an incoming message. To further minimize power consumption, it is desirable to minimize use of extended attention signals, which is accomplished by the transmitter maintaining an estimate of listening period start times and attempting to send messages only during listening periods. In the communication device, the estimate is updated as a result of information obtained with the reception of each message from the medical device.

A system, method and program are disclosed for achieving rapid bit synchronization in low power medical device systems. Messages are transmitted via telemetry between a medical device and a communication device. The synchronization scheme uses a portion of a unique preamble bit pattern to identify the communication device allowing for economical communications with a minimum expenditure of energy. A special set of preamble bit patterns are utilized for their unique synchronization properties making them particularly suited for rapid bit synchronization. These unique preamble bit patterns further provide simplification to the preamble error detection logic.

Method of interference management for interference/collision prevention/avoidance and spatial reuse enhancement

Interference, collisions, power control, and spatial reuse constitute important issues that need to be resolved urgently in multihop wireless networks such as ad hoc networks, single-hop / multihop wireless LANs, sensor networks, and mesh networks. A method called the evolvable interference management (EIM) method is disclosed in this patent for avoiding / preventing interference and collision and increasing network throughput and energy efficiency in wireless networks. EIM employs sensitive CSMA / CA, patching approaches, interference engineering, differentiated multichannel, detached dialogues, and / or spread spectrum techniques to solve the interference and QoS problems. Also, EIM embodiments based on collision prevention without dialogues are capable of collision reduction / control and can resolve several important problems encountered in previous MACP or RTS / CTS-based protocols, while improving / retaining their important advantages.

Method and apparatus for controlling transmissions of a communications systems

In some aspects, each cell in the communications system can be designed to operate in accordance with a set of back-off factors that identify the reductions in peak transmit power levels for the channels associated with the back-off factors. The back-off factors are defined to provide the required power to a large percentage of the users while reducing the amount of interference. In some other aspects, the cells operate using an adaptive reuse scheme that allows the cells to efficiently allocate and reallocate the system resources to reflect changes in the system. A reuse scheme is initially defined and resources are allocated to the cells. During operation, changes in the operating conditions of the system are detected and the reuse scheme is redefined as necessary based on the detected changes. For example, the loading conditions of the cells can be detected, and the resources can be reallocated and/or the reuse scheme can be redefined. In yet other aspects, techniques are provided to efficiency schedule data transmissions and to assign channels to users. Data transmissions can be scheduled based on user priorities, some fairness criteria, system requirements, and other factors. Users are assigned to available channels based on a number of channel assignment schemes. Channel metrics are also provided, which can be used to prioritize users and for channel assignments.

System and method for controlling power to resources based on historical utilization data

A method comprises collecting utilization data for a resource, and predicting by a power management system, based on the collected utilization data, future utilization of the resource. The method further comprises controlling, by the power management system, power to the resource, based at least in part on the predicted future utilization of the resource. In one embodiment, the utilization data is collected for a plurality of resources that are operable to perform tasks, and the method further comprises determining, by the power management system, how many of the resources are needed to provide a desired capacity for servicing the predicted future utilization of the resources for performing the tasks. The method further comprises configuring, by the power management system, ones of the resources exceeding the determined number of resources needed to provide the desired capacity in a reduced power-consumption mode.
