Microprocessor controlled ambulatory medical apparatus with hand held communication device

An implantable infusion pump possesses operational functionality that is, at least in part, controlled by software operating in two processor ICs which are configured to perform some different and some duplicate functions. The pump exchanges messages with an external device via telemetry. Each processor controls a different part of the drug infusion mechanism such that both processors must agree on the appropriateness of drug delivery for infusion to occur. Delivery accumulators are incremented and decremented with delivery requests and with deliveries made. When accumulated amounts reach or exceed, quantized deliverable amounts, infusion is made to occur. The accumulators are capable of being incremented by two or more independent types of delivery requests. Operational modes of the infusion device are changed automatically in view of various system errors that are trapped, various system alarm conditions that are detected, and when excess periods of time lapse between pump and external device interactions.

Method and apparatus for improving dynamic range of a touchscreen controller

A touchscreen system for increasing the dynamic range of the system comprising a touchscreen coupled to an offset cancellation element and a capacitance measuring element. The offset cancellation element is configured to be dynamically changed in capacitance such that it offsets parasitic and sensor capacitances of the touchscreen sensors thereby leaving only touch event capacitance to be measured by the measuring element. The offset cancellation element is able to adjust to the initial unwanted capacitances of each sensor as well as dynamically adjust to changes in the unwanted capacitance due to the environment. In some embodiments, the offset cancellation element is a capacitance digital-to-analog converter that is controlled by a controller for offsetting the unwanted capacitance. As a result, the touchscreen system is able to utilize a small integrating capacitor thereby lowering cost and improving the dynamic range of the system.

Motor vehicle dehumidifier with drying agent and drying agent regenerative control

A motor vehicle dehumidifier, including a dehumidifying drying agent, that can provide a required dehumidifying capacity with a reduced overall quantity of drying agent compared to conventional drying agent-based dehumidifiers. In the present invention, a heat exchanger is disposed on an upstream side of a drying agent unit, and heat is exchanged in the heat exchanger between inside air to be dehumidified and low-temperature outside air used to cool the inside air. The air cooled by the heat exchanger flows into the drying agent unit and is dehumidified. Because the air has an increased relative humidity as a result of being cooled, the amount of water adsorbed from it per unit of drying agent is increased, as the water adsorption characteristic of the drying agent is greatly influenced by the relative humidity of the air passing over it, and is markedly improved by an increase in the relative humidity of that air.

Methods of Optimizing Vehicular Air Conditioning Control Systems

Air conditioning system controls are optimized for an air conditioning system having a compressor in IC engine vehicles and in hybrid or fuel cell vehicles having electric drive motors by first determining the operating temperature of at least one of the following vehicle components: engine coolant and transmission oil for all types of vehicles, and for hybrid or fuel cell vehicles also determining the operating temperature of inverter coolant and the electric drive motors. At least one operating temperature is then compared to lower and upper temperature limits. If the operating temperature is outside of the temperature limits air conditioner heat load is reduced by at least one of the following steps: increasing cabin air recirculation, reducing cabin blower speed and reducing air conditioner compressor capacity. Subsequent to reducing air conditioner heat load, selected operating temperature or temperatures are monitored to determine if the operating temperature exceeds the upper temperature limit or limits. If the operating temperature or temperatures exceed the upper limit or limits the compressor is shut off.

Prism for high contrast projection

Prism elements having TIR surfaces placed in close proximity to the active area of a SLM device 302 to separate unwanted off-state 324 and / or flat-state 326 light from the projection ON-light bundle 322. The TIR critical angle of these prisms is selected to affect either the off-state light or additionally, any portion of flat-state light reflected from the SLM. These TIR surfaces are placed to immediately reflect the unwanted light as it comes off the SLM, thereby preventing the contamination of light along the projection path, which tends to degrade the system contrast. To further improve the optical performance of the system, these TIR prisms can be attached directly to the SLM package 300, completely eliminating the package window. Also, these TIR prism can be coupled to DMDs having asymmetric mirrors, which tilt through a larger angle for the ON-light to provide high etendue and lumen output, but through near-zero degrees for the OFF-light, thereby improving the separation of any unwanted light from the off / flat states.

Reduced-Emission Gasification and Oxidation of Hydrocarbon Materials for Liquid Fuel Production

A system and process are disclosed for the controlled combustion of a wide variety of hydrocarbon feedstocks to produce thermal energy, liquid fuels, and other valuable products with little or no emissions. The hydrocarbon feeds, such as coal and biomass, are first gasified and then oxidized in a two-chamber system / process using pure oxygen rather than ambient air. A portion of the intermediate gases generated in the system / process are sent to a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis process for conversion into diesel fuel and other desired liquid hydrocarbons. The remaining intermediate gases are circulated and recycled through each of the gasification / oxidation chambers in order to maximize energy production. The energy produced through the system / process is used to generate steam and produce power through conventional steam turbine technology. In addition to the release of heat energy, the hydrocarbon fuels are oxidized to the pure product compounds of water and carbon dioxide, which are subsequently purified and marketed. The system / process minimizes environmental emissions.

Aircraft fuel systems

Aircraft fuel system reduces flammability exposure of fuel tanks. In one embodiment, aircraft center fuel tank fuel is cooled in flight to reduce flammability exposure to be similar to that of an unheated metal wing tank. Fuel tanks having adjacent heat sources are insulated to minimize heat flow into the fuel. Fuel tanks having lower cooling properties, e.g., composite wing tanks, are cooled during flight so temperatures are reduced to be similar to metal wing tanks. A fuel tank, pressurized relative to outside pressure at altitude, having lower flammability exposure than unpressurized tanks and cooling fuel in the tank reduces flammability exposure of the fuel tank to be similar to that of an unpressurized metal wing tank. Recirculating flow from a tank, passing through heat exchanger, and returning to the tank cools fuel. A controller starts / stops fuel flow to tanks and uses sensors to command flow to reduce flammability.
