Getting a clean pulse with length 200 microseconds with an analog switch is rather hard, and a current pulse of this length is better generated with a digital switches.

In a welding power supply for creating welding current in a succession of current pulses with a maximum current level and a trailing off state which current pulses passing through a series circuit including an inductor and electrode in welding relationship with a workpiece wherein the power supply has (a) an inverter stage with an input to be connected to a power source, a first terminal at a first electrical polarity when the inverter is on, a second terminal at a second electrical polarity when the inverter is on, and a control to generate an off signal to turn the inverter off and remove current from the terminals to shift said current pulse toward an off state; and, (b) a power switching stage including a transistor based switch having a conduction condition passing current from the first terminal upon creation of a first logic signal and a non-conduction condition blocking current upon creation of a second logic signal, the improvement comprising: a sensor for measuring the instantaneous value of the welding current, a comparator for producing a low current signal when the instantaneous current is at a selected value substantially below the maximum current level and a circuit or program for creating the second logic signal upon production of a low current signal after generation of an off signal whereby the transistor based switch is switched from the conduction condition to the non-conduction condition when the welding current is generally at the selected value.

An electromedical implant includes a measuring signal generator, an impedance measuring unit to determine the impedance of human or animal tissue, a control unit which, for controlling the measuring signal generator and the impedance measuring unit, is at least indirectly connected to the measuring signal generator and to the impedance measuring unit, as well as an electrode arrangement comprising at least two electrodes which can be directly or indirectly connected or at least temporarily connected to the measuring signal generator and to the impedance measuring unit, or to a connection for such an electrode arrangement. The measuring signal generator is designed to generate and emit a current pulse or a series of current pulses, and the control unit is designed at a specific point in time to cause the measuring signal generator (to generate and emit a current pulse, and to cause the impedance measuring unit to measure the voltage that is present between the electrodes connected to the measuring signal generator and the impedance measuring unit after the passing of at least two time periods of different length that start with commencement of the current pulse being emitted and end before the end of emitting the current pulse, and to issue a voltage value which in each case represents the measured voltage.

Method for producing alloy deposits and controlling the nanostructure thereof using negative current pulsing electro-deposition, and articles incorporating such deposits

Bipolar wave current, with both positive and negative current portions, is used to electrodeposit a nanocrystalline grain size deposit. Polarity Ratio is the ratio of the absolute value of the time integrated amplitude of negative polarity current and positive polarity current. Grain size can be precisely controlled in alloys of two or more chemical components, at least one of which is a metal, and at least one of which is most electro-active. Typically, although not always, the amount of the more electro-active material is preferentially lessened in the deposit during times of negative current. The deposit also exhibits superior macroscopic quality, being relatively crack and void free. Parameters of current density, duration of pulse portions, and composition of the bath are determined with reference to constitutive relations showing grain size as a function of deposit composition, and deposit composition as a function of Polarity Ratio, or, perhaps, a single relation showing grain size as a function of Polarity ratio. A specified grain size can be achieved by selecting a corresponding Polarity Ratio, based on these relations. Coatings can be in layers, each having an average grain size, which can vary layer to layer and also in a region in a graded fashion. Coatings can be chosen for environmental protection (corrosion, abrasion), decorative properties, and for the same uses as a hard chrome coating. A finished article may be built upon a substrate of electro-conductive plastic, or metal, including steels, aluminum, brass. The substrate may remain, or be removed.
