The present invention relates generally to a non-invasive method and apparatus for measuring a fluid analyte, particularly relating to glucose or alcohol contained in blood or tissue, utilizing spectroscopic methods. More particularly, the method and apparatus incorporate means for detecting and quantifying changes in the concentration of specific analytes in tissue fluid. Also, the method and apparatus can be used to predict future levels of analyte concentration either in the tissue fluid or in blood in an adjacent vascular system.

A hole is drilled in the oil shale formation and a processing gas inlet conduit is positioned within the hole. A processing gas is pressurized, heated, and introduced through the processing gas inlet conduit and into the hole. The processing gas creates a nonburning thermal energy front within the oil shale formation so as to convert kerogen in the oil shale to hydrocarbonaceous products. The products are withdrawn with the processing gas through an effluent gas conduit positioned around the opening of the hole, and are then transferred to a condenser wherein a liquid fraction of the products is formed and separated from a gaseous fraction.

A system is provided for producing hydrogen and oxygen based on decomposition of sodium chlorate (NaClO₃). In a service station, NaClO₃ is produced by a sodium chloride (NaCl) electrolyser. The service station is supplied with water (H₂O), NaCl, and energy in order to carry out an electrolysis reaction in the electroyser, to produce NaClO₃ and gaseous hydrogen (H₂). The NaClO₃ and H₂ are supplied to vehicles. The system has an engine as a power source for driving the vehicle; a transmission; a mechanical oil pump, operated by the power produced by the engine, for supplying oil pressure to the transmission; an automatic engine stopping and starting section for automatically stopping the engine under predetermined stopping conditions and automatically starting the engine under predetermined starting conditions; and an electric oil pump operated when the predetermined stopping conditions are satisfied, so as to supply the oil pressure to the transmission. The automatic engine stopping and starting section has a control section for prohibiting the automatic engine stop when the line pressure in a hydraulic circuit for supplying oil pressure to the transmission is equal to or lower than a predetermined value while the engine is operated.

In the area of network provisioning, there is a problem of selecting a suitable traffic-provisioning model for large networks due to the high management complexity of the resource-efficient trunk model and the poor bandwidth efficiency of the easy-to-configure hose model. The invention is based on the idea of partitioning at least part of the network into multi-node clusters, and defining traffic limitations on at least two levels, including the intra-cluster level and the inter-cluster level, where the traffic limitations include one or more node-to-cluster traffic limitations for inter-cluster traffic. The novel node-to-cluster limitations proposed by the invention are preferably applied in a cluster-based trunk or hose model on the inter-cluster level.
