Method and apparatus for controlling transmissions of a communications systems

In some aspects, each cell in the communications system can be designed to operate in accordance with a set of back-off factors that identify the reductions in peak transmit power levels for the channels associated with the back-off factors. The back-off factors are defined to provide the required power to a large percentage of the users while reducing the amount of interference. In some other aspects, the cells operate using an adaptive reuse scheme that allows the cells to efficiently allocate and reallocate the system resources to reflect changes in the system. A reuse scheme is initially defined and resources are allocated to the cells. During operation, changes in the operating conditions of the system are detected and the reuse scheme is redefined as necessary based on the detected changes. For example, the loading conditions of the cells can be detected, and the resources can be reallocated and/or the reuse scheme can be redefined. In yet other aspects, techniques are provided to efficiency schedule data transmissions and to assign channels to users. Data transmissions can be scheduled based on user priorities, some fairness criteria, system requirements, and other factors. Users are assigned to available channels based on a number of channel assignment schemes. Channel metrics are also provided, which can be used to prioritize users and for channel assignments.

Minimally invasive fixation sysyem

A minimally invasive fixation system and method for providing access to a surgical site. The fixation system may include a holding assembly, the holding assembling preferably including a lateral implant holder which may be attached to a pedicle screw and a sleeve positioned in connection with the lateral implant holder to prevent the lateral implant holder from separating from the pedicle screw. The sleeve may further include a tissue protection portion to keep the tissue out of the surgical site. A holding sleeve may be operably connected to the holding assembly and pedicle screw and may be used to insert the pedicle screw into the body. Multiple constructs may be inserted into the body so that a portion of the holding assembly extends from the body and provides access to and visualization of the surgical site. A rod holder may also be used to insert a rod into the head of the screw. The rod may be held by the rod holder so that the rod may be angulated as the rod is inserted into the screw heads. Once the rod is positioned in the screw heads, locking caps and/or set screws may be positioned over the rod and engage the screw heads so that the position of the rod may be fixed with respect to the screws. In some embodiments, a movement mechanism may be used to move the screws relative to each other to compress and/or distract the vertebrae.

Method and apparatus for attenuating compressor noise

The invention comprises a method and apparatus for reducing the noise generated by compressors, including Roots-type blowers. The invention has particular use for reducing noise generated by compressors used in mechanical ventilators, though the advantages thereof may be realized in many different applications. One embodiment of the invention comprises a noise-attenuating gas flow path for a compressor contained in a portable ventilator housing. In one embodiment, the gas flow path comprises a plurality of chambers interconnected by flow tubes. The flow path is folded so as to fit into the limited space of a portable ventilator housing. The dimensions of the chambers and the flow tubes are selected so that an impedance mismatch is created between the chambers and the flow tubes. In one embodiment of the invention, the flow path comprises one or more perforated tubes located in one or more of the chambers. The perforated tube has a port through which gas is accepted and at least one exterior tube through which gas exits. Impedance mismatches are created between the inlet chamber and the exterior tubes and between the exterior tubes and the chamber in which the perforated tube is located, which are useful in attenuating noise. One embodiment of the invention comprises a noise attenuating mounting system for a compressor. The mounting system comprises flexible mounts that cooperate to dampen vibrations generated by the compressor.

High-load and high-precision pneumatic force measurement device and measurement method

The invention discloses a high-load and high-precision pneumatic force measurement device and a measurement method. An internal balance tail-supported aerial vehicle model is adopted to execute pneumatic force test in the prior art, and rising force of an aerial vehicle perpendicularly works on a cantilever type tail rod, so that the model severely shakes during the test. The high-load and high-precision pneumatic force measurement device comprises a balance and a supporting rod, wherein the balance adopts an internal balance and is connected with a balance sleeve; the supporting rod is connected with an incidence angle sliding rail mechanism, a side sliding angle mechanism connected with the incidence angle sliding rail mechanism, and a mechanism control and data acquisition device; the supporting rod is adopted to be connected with the balance and support the model; the internal balance is adopted to measure the pneumatic force of the aerial vehicle model; the balance is externally connected with a sleeve structure and is also connected with a data acquisition device; the data acquisition system obtains the pneumatic force on the model and is connected with automatic control equipment; therefore, the pneumatic force on the model can be obtained. The high-load and high-precision pneumatic force measurement device and the measurement method are used for measurement in a pressurized high-density and low-speed wind tunnel.

Receiver for time division multiplex system without explicit time slot assignment

A technique for a time division multiplex system in which access to shared broadcast communication media is granted on a demand basis. Particular connections are assigned slot times at the transmitter based on demand. However, no specific information regarding the assignment of time slots need be communicated to the receivers. The transmit side employs a forward error correction technique followed by multiplication by a cover sequence unique to each connection. All receivers listen to the broadcast transmission channel all of the time. The receiver assigned to each connection decodes the signals in such a manner that only the receiver with the correct cover sequence assigned to a particular connection will successfully decode the data associated with that connection. Data frames that fail the forward error correction process are discarded, and only those frames which are successfully decoded are passed up to a higher layer. The occurrence of an erroneously received frame is not necessarily always reported to the transmit side of the connection; only a packet level error indication is made. In this way, information containing time slot assignment need not be communicated between the transmitter and receiver, and yet data will be correctly received.
