Methods for performing fast discrete curvelet transforms of data

Fast digital implementations of the second generation curvelet transform for use in data processing are disclosed. One such digital transformation is based on unequally-spaced fast Fourier transforms (USFFT) while another is based on the wrapping of specially selected Fourier samples. Both digital transformations return a table of digital curvelet coefficients indexed by a scale parameter, an orientation parameter, and a spatial location parameter. Both implementations are fast in the sense that they run in about O(n2 log n) flops for n by n Cartesian arrays or about O(N log N) flops for Cartesian arrays of size N=n3; in addition, they are also invertible, with rapid inversion algorithms of about the same complexity.

Image guided radiosurgery method and apparatus using registration of 2D radiographic images with digitally reconstructed radiographs of 3D scan data

An image-guided radiosurgery method and system are presented that use 2D / 3D image registration to keep the radiosurgical beams properly focused onto a treatment target. A pre-treatment 3D scan of the target is generated at or near treatment planning time. A set of 2D DRRs are generated, based on the pre-treatment 3D scan. At least one 2D x-ray image of the target is generated in near real time during treatment. The DRRs are registered with the x-ray images, by computing a set of 3D transformation parameters that represent the change in target position between the 3D scan and the x-ray images. The relative position of the radiosurgical beams and the target is continuously adjusted in near real time in accordance with the 3D transformation parameters. A hierarchical and iterative 2D / 3D registration algorithm is used, in which the transformation parameters that are in-plane with respect to the image plane of the x-ray images are computed separately from the out-of-plane transformation parameters.

System for linking financial asset records with networked assets

A computer system to reconcile hard assets carried on the financial data reporting computer systems of a corporation or government entity with actual inventory assets discovered on the networks of said entity. Automatic discovery of inventory assets is performed by executing scripts specified in fingerprints of the types of machines the system can recognize. When a machine is found at a live P address, the fingerprint scripts determine the operating system type and extract data from the operating system regarding the attributes of the machine. Hard assets are then imported from the financial data reporting computer system, and automatic reconciliation rules are drafted by a user and run on the asset data to find inventory assets which match hard assets. Linking or pointer data is established to record each match. Then unmatched inventory and hard assets are displayed and manual matching occurs where in the user points to and selects inventory assets which match particular hard assets. Linking or pointer data is then generated for each manual match.

Isothermal DNA amplification

The present invention provides for amplification of one or more polynucleotides by multi-staged linear amplifications using one or more RNA polymerases. At each stage RNA transcripts are accumulated at a linear rate, so that multiple stages provide for faster than linear transcript accumulation. In one aspect, the invention provides for polynucleotide amplification by ligating hairpin adaptors to an end of polynucleotides wherein the hairpin adaptors each contain a promoter sequence oriented so that transcription proceeds in the direction of the loop of the hairpin adaptor. Upon transcription through such loop region and to the complementary strand a replicate is made of the promoter sequence as well as the polynucleotide, thereby permitting exponential amplification upon reverse transcription, second strand synthesis, and repetition of the above cycle. Preferably such amplification is carried out under isothermal reaction conditions.

Fast high-accuracy multi-dimensional pattern inspection

A method and apparatus are provided for identifying diffe rences between a stored pattern and a matching image subset, where variations in pattern position, orientation, and size do not give rise to false differences. The invention is also a system for analyzing an object image with respect to a model pattern so as to detect flaws in the object image. The system includes extracting pattern features from the model pattern; generating a vector-valued function using the pattern features to provide a pattern field; extracting image features from the object image; evaluating each image feature, using the pattern field and an n-dimensional transformation that associates image features with pattern features, so as to determine at least one associated feature characteristic; and using at least one feature characteristic to identify at least one flaw in the object image. The invention can find at least two distinct kinds of flaws: missing features, and extra features. The invention provides pattern inspection that is faster and more accurate than any known prior art method by using a stored pattern that represents an ideal example of the object to be found and inspected, and that can be translated, rotated, and scaled to arbitrary precision much faster than digital image re-sampling, and without pixel grid quantization errors. Furthermore, since the invention does not use digital image re-sampling, there are no pixel quantization errors to cause false differences between the pattern and image that can limit inspection performance.

Arrangement and method for audio source tracking

An arrangement and a method of localizing active speakers in a video conference includes a localization device that locates at least one microphone relative to the camera, while the at least one microphone in turn localizes the relative positions of audio sources. As the microphones are usually positioned close to the audio source in a video conference, the ratio of the distance between microphones relative to the distance between table microphone and audio source is reduced. Thus, the microphones are able to determine the positions of the audio sources with a higher resolution than if placed close to the camera. When the respective positions of the microphones relative to the camera and the audio source are known, the position of the audio source relative to the camera is then determined by means of geometrical calculations.

Fast high-accuracy multi-dimensional pattern localization

A method and apparatus are provided for rapidly refining a given approximate location of a pattern to produce a more accurate location. The invention employs a multi-dimensional space that includes translation, orientation, and scale. The invention can serve as a replacement for the fine resolution phase of any coarse-fine system for pattern location. Patterns and images are represented by a feature-based description that can be translated, rotated, and scaled to arbitrary precision much faster than digital image re-sampling, and without pixel grid quantization errors. Thus, accuracy is not limited by the ability of a grid to represent small changes in position, orientation, or size (or other degrees of freedom). The invention determines an accurate object pose from an approximate starting pose in a small, fixed number of increments that is independent of the number of dimensions of the space, and independent of the distance between the starting and final poses, provided that the starting pose is within the “capture range” of the true pose. Thus, accuracy need not be sacrificed to keep execution time acceptable for practical applications. Specifying locations in four or more dimensions will often result in better matches between the pattern and image than two-dimensional location systems, thereby improving accuracy. Accuracy is not degraded if some portion of the object is missing or occluded, or if unexpected extra features are present.
