A touch panel is a piece of equipment that lets users interact with a computer by touching the screen directly.

Method and apparatus for multi-touch tactile touch panel actuator mechanisms

A method and apparatus of actuator mechanisms for a multi-touch tactile touch panel are disclosed. The tactile touch panel includes an electrical insulated layer and a tactile layer. The top surface of the electrical insulated layer is capable of receiving an input from a user. The tactile layer includes a grid or an array of haptic cells. The top surface of the haptic layer is situated adjacent to the bottom surface of the electrical insulated layer, while the bottom surface of the haptic layer is situated adjacent to a display. Each haptic cell further includes at least one piezoelectric material, Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (“MEMS”) element, thermal fluid pocket, MEMS pump, resonant device, variable porosity membrane, laminar flow modulation, or the like. Each haptic cell is configured to provide a haptic effect independent of other haptic cells in the tactile layer.

Touch panel, display device provided with touch panel and electronic equipment provided with display device

A touch panel using an optical sensor has a simple construction and can accurately detect an input position. An illuminating lights emitted from illuminating means are turned into lights having a high directivity in an X-axis direction and in a Y-axis direction of the prism lens sheet and thereafter enter from side faces of a light guide panel as incident lights. The incident lights advance in the inside of the light guide panel toward opposite side faces while being subjected to a total reflection and are received by the optical sensor arrays. When an input pen or a fingertip touches a surface of the light guide panel, the lights are refracted or absorbed at a touched position and hence, a quantity of received lights at the optical sensor arrays is reduced.

Capacitive Touch Panel

A capacitive touch panel includes a substrate having a pattern-forming surface, a color pixel layer formed on the substrate, and a patterned conductive layer formed on the pattern-forming surface of the substrate. The patterned conductive layer includes a plurality of first electrode units, a plurality of second electrode units, a plurality of spaced apart first conductive lines, and a plurality of spaced apart second conductive lines. The first electrode units are capacitively coupled to the second electrode units so as to form a plurality of two dimensionally arranged capacitive sensing units. Each of the first electrode units includes a plurality of first electrodes. Each of the first conductive lines is connected to and extends along the pattern-forming surface from at least one of the first electrodes of a respective one of the first electrode units into a bonding area of the pattern-forming surface. The second conductive lines extend respectively from the second electrode units into the bonding area, and do not cross the first conductive lines.

Touch panel display system with illumination and detection provided from a single edge

A touch panel that has a front surface, a rear surface, a plurality of edges and an interior volume. An energy source is positioned in proximity to a first edge of the touch panel and is configured to emit energy that is propagated within the interior volume of the touch panel. A diffusing reflector is positioned in proximity to the front surface of the touch panel for diffusively reflecting at least a portion of the energy that escapes from the interior volume. At least one detector is positioned in proximity to the first edge of the touch panel and is configured to detect intensity levels of the energy that is diffusively reflected across the front surface of the touch panel. Preferably, two detectors are spaced apart from each other in proximity to the first edge of the touch panel, to allow calculation of touch locations using simple triangulation techniques.

Input device and electronic device using the input device

The present invention related to an input device including: an image display unit (30) that displays information; a touch panel (15) with which a user performs input operation of information by touching a portion corresponding to the position at which the information of the image display unit is displayed; a vibration generation device (71) disposed in the image display unit and feeds back, to the user, various kinds of sense of touch in accordance with the type of the information through the touch panel; and a vibration control circuit (73) for allowing the vibration generation device to generate various forms of vibrations in accordance with the type of the information. The vibration generation device is a bimorph piezoelectric actuator. Each of first and second actuator units has multi-layered piezoelectric elements (63). By this way, it is possible to provide an input / output device capable of surely realizing a feedback to user's input operation performed in accordance with the type of information through the sense of touch when the user performs an input operation of information to a touch panel using the sense of touch.

A handheld device with a compact integrated touch panel is disclosed. A handheld device incorporating a touch panel display requiring electrical connections is reduced in size by incorporating electrical pathways within the support structure of the touch panel display, obviating the need for a flex circuit extension from the touch panel display for connection to the handheld device. A further reduction in size is obtained by providing an inherent visually homogeneous perimeter for the touch panel display by matching the colors of the conductive and dielectric materials, thereby eliminating the need for a bezel.

Communication Between Touch-Panel Devices

Technologies described herein generally relate to communications between electronic systems. Each electronic system includes a touch-panel device that may be positioned in proximity to one another such that the near field emissions of the touch-panel devices interact with one another. The touch-panel devices can be adapted to sense one another based on these near field emissions. Once detected, the touch-panel devices can be configured to establish a communication channel to communicate information between one another via modulated near field emissions. Such exchanged information may include identification information, network addresses, security keys, and so forth. The exchanged information may be used for discovery or pairing between the touch-panel devices. The technology presented herein can support an intuitive user experience and improved security over traditional wireless pairing approaches.
