In Electronics/computer hardware a display driver is usually a semiconductor integrated circuit (but may alternatively comprise a state machine made of discrete logic and other components) which provides an interface function between a microprocessor, microcontroller, ASIC or general-purpose peripheral interface and a particular type of display device, e.g. LCD, LED, OLED, ePaper, CRT, Vacuum fluorescent or Nixie.

Method and apparatus for managing and uniformly maintaining pixel circuitry in a flat panel display

InactiveUS20080048951A1Accurate aging correctionStatic indicating devicesQuantum efficiencyDisplay design
The present invention describes a method and apparatus for measuring the voltage and current characteristics of the OLED pixel as it ages and correlating the measured data to the decrease in quantum efficiency and changes in OLED impedance over the life of the OLED, so that corrections can be made to the image drive system to prevent image sticking and color point drift. The method and apparatus of the present invention do not require any additional circuitry or changes in the display design. The circuitry of the present invention is implemented in the display driver integrated circuit (IC) chips. The basis of the invention is the luminance-current-voltage (LIV) curves which characterize the OLED materials over their life time. A series of these curves are stored in memory representing a OLED material at various ages. The apparatus of the present invention is used to measure driver voltages and currents for a pixel having an OLED, which measurements are then used to extract the voltage current curve for the OLED at any point in time. The extracted curve is compared to the aging curves stored in memory to determine the aging curve that best describes the measured present voltage current characteristic of the pixel. That aging curve is used to drive the pixel.

Graphical functions by gestures

A method for operating a computer through a touch sensitive display interface includes displaying a computer generated graphical image on a touch sensitive display using display software. The display software includes programs used to display the graphical image (e.g., display driver and web browser), and is responsive to inputs at a first, active portion (e.g., coinciding with toolbars, hyperlinks) of the touch sensitive display when the graphic image is displayed, and is non-responsive to a second, inactive portion. In the method, an input character is received at the second, inactive portion of the touch sensitive display, and is compared to a stored command character that is associated with a separate corresponding computer command. The separate corresponding computer command is executed if the input character matches the command character. In one embodiment, one particular input character results in emulating a right mouse button by displaying a submenu of shortcut icons, and the method is implemented by operation of a computer program in a mobile station.

OLED Display Driver Circuits and Techniques

We describe a method of driving an OLED display. The OLED display comprises a plurality of pixel driver circuits on chiplets, each pixel driver circuit comprising an output transistor for driving a first connection of an associated OLED pixel. A cascode transistor on the chiplet is coupled between the output transistor and the first connection of said associated OLED pixel. A power supply is provided to the chiplet, defining a chiplet voltage range. A second connection of the associated OLED pixel is connected to an OLED voltage outside said chiplet voltage range. The OLED pixel is then driven using the pixel driver circuit on the chiplet over an OLED voltage range greater than said chiplet voltage range. In some preferred embodiments a drain connection of the cascode transistor is set at a voltage below a ground or negative (Vss) power supply to a chiplet.

Multiplex electrophoretic display driver circuit

A multiplex electrophoretic display driver circuit comprises a memory unit, a display controller and a voltage driving unit. The memory unit has two registers respectively storing the current and former gray-level matrix signals. The gray-level matrix signal contains gray-level data corresponding to electrophoretic pixels. The display controller has an encoding circuit and a counting circuit. The encoding circuit generates a difference-value matrix signal containing difference values according to a difference between the current and former gray-level matrix signals and then generates a voltage-difference matrix signal containing voltage-difference signals corresponding to the electrophoretic pixels. The counting circuit receives the difference-value matrix signal and counts to generate refreshing values corresponding to the difference values. The encoding circuit adds the refreshing values to a next-cycled difference-value matrix signal to generate a new voltage-difference matrix signal. The voltage driving unit drives the electrophoretic pixels according to the voltage-difference matrix signal.
